体力活动、久坐、身体素质与1型和2型糖尿病年轻患者健康预后的关系:对流行病学文献的综述(英文)显示文摘Diabetes is a leading chronic disease of childhood and adolescence. In addition to the well-known auto-immune,insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus(type 1 diabetes(T1D)),the past two decades have witnessed the emergence of type 2 diabetes(T2D) in children and adolescents, which previously was only seen in middle-aged or older adults. One of the key components of diabetes management is physical activity(PA).The beneficial effects of increased PA and decreased sedentary behavior are extremely important in youth with diabetes because of the markedly increased long-term risk of cardiovascular disease in this population compared to persons without diabetes. This review aims to comprehensively summarize the epidemiologic, observational research published and listed in PubMed between 1970 and 2012 on PA and sedentary behaviors,as well as physical fitness in children and adolescents with TID and T2D.Additionally,we describe briefly the state of knowledge on perceived barriers of PA in persons with diabetes, with a focus on hypoglycemia. Finally,we provide an overview of the epidemiological literature pertaining to health benefits of increased PA in youth with TID and T2D and briefly discuss the topic of exercise-related hypoglycemia.Angela D. 2Cytomegalovirus frequency in neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis determined by serology, histology, immunohistochemistry and PCR显示文摘AIM: To determine cytomegalovirus (CMV) frequency in neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis by serology, histological revision (searching for cytomegalic cells), immunohistochemistry, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and to verify the relationships among these methods.METHODS: The study comprised 101 non-consecutive infants submitted for hepatic biopsy between March 1982 and December 2005. Serological results were obtained from the patient's f iles and the other methods were performed on paraffin-embedded liver samples from hepatic biopsies. The following statistical measures were calculated: frequency, sensibility, specif ic positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy.RESULTS: The frequencies of positive results were as follows: serology, 7/64 (11%); histological revision, 0/84; immunohistochemistry, 1/44 (2%), and PCR, 6/77 (8%). Only one patient had positive immunohistochemical fi ndings and a positive PCR. The following statistical measures were calculated between PCR and serology: sensitivity, 33.3%; specificity, 88.89%; positive predictive value, 28.57%; negative predictive value, 90.91%; and accuracy, 82.35%. CONCLUSION: The frequency of positive CMV varied among the tests. Serology presented the highest positive frequency. When compared to PCR, the sensitivity and positive predictive value of serology were low.Maria Angela Bellomo-Brandao Paula D Andrade Sandra CB Costa Cecilia AF Escanhoela Jose Vassallo Gilda Porta Adriana MA De Tommaso Gabriel Hessel 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,27:8
Comprehensive functional annotation of susceptibility variants identifies genetic heterogeneity between lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘Although genome-wide association studies have identified more than eighty genetic variants associated with non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)risk, biological mechanisms of these variants remain largely unknown.By integrating a large-scale genotype data of 15581 lung adenocarcinoma(AD)cases,8350 squamous cell carcinoma(SqCC)cases, and 27355 controls,as well as multiple transcriptome and epigenomic databases,we conducted histology-specific meta-analyses and functional annotations of both reported and novel susceptibility variants. We identified 3064 credible risk variants for NSCLC,which were overrepresented in enhancer-like and promoter-like histone modification peaks as well as DNase I hypersensitive sites.Transcription factor enrichment analysis revealed that USF1 was AD-specific while CREB1 was SqCC-specific.Functional annotation and genebased analysis implicated 894 target genes, including 274 specifics for AD and 123 for SqCC,which were overrepresented in somatic driver genes(ER=1.95,P=0.005).Pathway enrichment analysis and Gene-Set Enrichment Analysis revealed that AD genes were primarily involved in immune-related pathways, while SqCC genes were homologous recombination deficiency related. Our results illustrate the molecular basis of both wellstudied and new susceptibility loci of NSCLC,providing not only novel insights into the genetic heterogeneity between AD and SqCC but also a set of plausible gene targets for post-GWAS functional experiments.Na Qin Yuancheng Li Cheng Wang Meng Zhu Juncheng Dai Tongtong Hong Demetrius Albanes Stephen Lam Adonina Tardon Chu Chen Gary Goodman Stig EBojesen Maria Teresa Landi Mattias Johansson Angela Risch H-Erich Wichmann Heike Bickeboller Gadi Rennert Susanne Arnold Paul Brennan John KField Sanjay Shete Loic Le Marchand Olle Melander Hans Brunnstrom Geoffrey Liu Rayjean JHung Angeline Andrew Lambertus AKiemeney Shan Zienolddiny Kjell Grankvist Mikael Johansson Neil Caporaso Penella Woll Philip Lazarus Matthew BSchabath Melinda CAldrich Victoria LStevens Guangfu Jin David CChristiani Zhibin Hu Christopher IAmos Hongxia Ma Hongbing Shen 2021Frontiers of Medicine2021,15,2:3
Wheat leaf senescence and its regulatory gene network显示文摘Wheat leaf senescence is a developmental process that involves expressional changes in thousands of genes that ultimately impact grain protein content(GPC), grain yield(GY), and nitrogen use efficiency. The onset and rate of senescence are strongly influenced by plant hormones and environmental factors e.g. nitrogen availability. At maturity, decrease in nitrogen uptake could enhance N remobilization from leaves and stem to grain, eventually leading to leaf senescence. Early senescence is related to high GPC and somewhat low yield whereas late senescence is often related to high yield and somewhat low GPC. Early or late senescence is principally regulated by up and down-regulation of senescence associated genes. Integration of external and internal factors together with genotypic variation influence senescence associated genes in a developmental age dependent manner. Although regulation of genes involved in senescence has been studied in rice, Arabidopsis, maize, and currently in wheat, there are genotypespecific variations yet to explore. A major effort is needed to understand the interaction of positive and negative senescence regulators in determining the onset of senescence. In wheat, increasing attention has been paid to understand the role of positive senescence regulator, e.g. GPC-1, regulated gene network during early senescence time course. Recently, gene regulatory network involved early to late senescence time course revealed important senescence regulators. However, the known negative senescence regulator Ta NAC-S gene has not been extensively studied in wheat and little is known about its value in breeding. Existing data on senescence-related transcriptome studies and gene regulatory network could effectively be used for functional study in developing nitrogen efficient wheat varieties.Nigarin Sultana Shahidul Islam Angela Juhasz Wujun Ma 2021The Crop Journal2021,9,4:2

Integrated microalgae culture with food processing waste for wastewater remediation and enhanced biomass productivity显示文摘Waste generation from food manufacturing facilities poses a serious hazard like environmental degradation, water pollution, and land pollution due to its high nutrient composition. Specifically, solid waste(powder) disposal requires additional energy sources in terms of scientific treatment, structured collection, and disposal packaging according to the safety regulation. Thus, this research discusses the viewpoint of integrating food processing waste as an organic carbon source with BG-11 medium for Chlorella vulgaris(FSP-E) growth. The food processing waste powders investigated in this study were obtained from milk, and biscuit manufacturing facilities. The culture medium was modified by combining both BG-11 and food processing waste powders to identify the optimal algal growth and biochemical content.Compared to the microalgae grown in BG-11 alone(IBG), the combination of biscuit waste and IBG produced higher biomass concentration(44%), with increased lipid(11%), protein(20%), and carbohydrate(57%) contents. Chlorella vulgaris was able to uptake nutrients from the culture medium with combination of food processing waste and IBG thus enhancing its growth. The results obtained also indicate that an integrated culture system using food processing waste and synthetic sources can generate energy out of waste by improving the bio-composition of the microalgae biomass.Angela Paul Peter Kit Wayne Chew Apurav Krishna Koyande Heli Siti Halimatul Munawaroh Amit Bhatnagar Yang Tao Chihe Sun Fubao Sun Zengling Ma Pau Loke Show 2023Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,2:0
Non-escaping frost tolerant QTL linked genetic loci at reproductive stage in six wheat DH populations显示文摘Reproductive stage frost poses a major constraint for wheat production in countries such as Australia. However, little progress has been made in identifying key genes to overcome the constraint. In the present study,a severe frost event hit two large-scale field trials consisting of six doubled haploid(DH)wheat populations at reproductive stage(young microspore stage)in Western Australia, leading to the identification of 30 robust frost QTL on 17 chromosomes. The major 18 QTL with the phenotype variation over 9.5%were located on 13 chromosomes including 2 A,2 B,2 D,3 A,4 A,4 B,4 D,5 A,5 D,6 D,7 A,7 B and7 D.Most frost QTL were closely linked to the QTL of anthesis, maturity,Zadok stages as well as linked to anthesis related genes.Out of those, six QTL were repetitively detected on the homologous regions on 2 B,4 B,4 D,5 A,5 D,7 A in more than two populations. Results showed that the frost damage is associated with alleles of Vrn-A1 a,Vrn-D1 a,Rht-B1 b,Rht-D1 b,and the high copy number of Ppd-B1.However,anthesis QTL and anthesis related genes of Vrn-B1 a and Ta FT3-1 B on chromosomes 5 B and 1 B did not lead to frost damage, indicating that these early-flowering phenotype related genes are compatible with frost tolerance and thus can be utilised in breeding. Our results also indicate that wild-type alleles Rht-B1 a and Rht-D1 a can be used when breeding for frost-tolerant varieties without delaying flowering time.Jingjuan Zhang MD Shahidul Islam Yun Zhao Masood Anwar Zaid Alhabbar Maoyun She Rongchang Yang Angela Juhasz Guixiang Tang Jiansheng Chen Hang Liu Yanjie Jiang Shengnan Zhai Xin Hu Junkang Rong Yingquan Zhang Yebo Qin Qier Liu Zitong Yu Yujuan Zhang Sadegh Balotf Mirza Dowla Sonia Afrin Nandita Roy Md Resad Mallik Md Atik Us Saieed Shanjida Rahman Nigarin Sultana Sarah Al-Sheikh Ahmed Chris Florides Kefei Chen Darshan Sharma Nathan Height Ben Biddulph Meiqin Lu Jorge EMayer Wujun Ma 2022The Crop Journal2022,10,1:0
Synergistic effects of interferon-alpha in combination with chemoradiation on human pancreatic adenocarcinoma显示文摘AIM: To determine whether IFN-α is the agent that turns a slightly effective treatment (radiochemotherapy) into a potent therapy, we tested IFN-α for its synergistic properties.METHODS: Eight pancreatic carcinoma cell lines were treated with the single agents and combinations of these. The role of IFN-α regarding a) direct inhibitory effects; b)radio and chemosensitizing effects; c) anti-angiogenic properties and d) enhancement of immunogenicity was investigated.RESULTS: Our results show that IFN-α has direct inhibitory properties and some synergistic influence as determined by AnnexinV/PI stain and cell count. IFN-α is also able to prevent the increase in proliferation rate and VEGF secretion of CDDP resistant cells. Having taken the results from immunogenicity experiments together, we found cells that can be influenced by IFN-α but were less susceptible against T cells. Furthermore, high expression of MHC molecules, CD118, EGF-R and Fas was predictive for a good response.CONCLUSION: In conclusion, IFN-α has direct cytotoxic effects, acts as a radiosensitizer and circumvents tumor cell-regrowth after CDDP treatment. These mechanisms may be responsible for the good clinical outcome of CapRI.Jian-Hua Ma Emilia Patrut Jan Schmidt Hanns-Peter Knaebel Markus W. 18Hepatobiliary tuberculosis in the developing world显示文摘BACKGROUND Hepatobiliary tuberculosis is a challenging disease that poses diagnostic difficulties due to its resemblance to other etiologies.Delayed diagnosis may lead to inadequate treatment, thus necessitating an urgent need for accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.AIM To systematically review case reports on hepatobiliary tuberculosis, focusing on symptomatology, diagnostic procedures, management, and outcomes to provide patient safety and ensure an uneventful recovery.METHODS A systematic search was conducted on PubMed from 1992 to 2022,using keywords such as hepatobiliary, liver, tuberculosis cholangitis, cholangiopathy, and mycobacterium.Only case reports or case series in English were included in the study, and research papers published as abstracts were excluded. The search yielded a total of 132 cases, which were further narrowed down to 17 case studies, consisting of 24 cases of hepatobiliary tuberculosis.RESULTS The 10 most common symptoms observed in these cases were fever, abdominal pain, weight loss, jaundice, anorexia, generalized weakness, pruritus, chills, fatigue, and chest pains. Objective findings in these cases included hepatomegaly, hepatic nodules, elevated liver enzymes, and elevated bilirubin.Computed tomography scan and ultrasound of the abdomen were the most useful diagnostic tools reported.Histologic demonstration of Mycobacterium tuberculosis confirmed the cases of hepatobiliary tuberculosis.Treatment regimens commonly used included Rifampicin,Isoniazid,Pyrazinamide, and Ethambutol.Out of the 24 cases,18 presented improvements while 4 had completely recovered.CONCLUSION Hepatobiliary tuberculosis is a disease that requires accurate diagnosis and appropriate management to avoid complications.Ma Jenina Angela Esguerra-Paculan Jonathan Soldera 2023World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2023,15,10:0
Near-field terahertz nonlinear optics with blue light显示文摘The coupling of terahertz optical techniques to scattering-type scanning near-field microscopy(s-SNOM)has recently emerged as a valuable new paradigm for probing the properties of semiconductors and other materials on the nanoscale.Researchers have demonstrated a family of related techniques, including terahertz nanoscopy(elastic scattering, based on linear optics),time-resolved methods, and nanoscale terahertz emission spectroscopy. However,as with nearly all examples of s-SNOM since the technique’s inception in the mid-1990s,the wavelength of the optical source coupled to the near-field tip is long, usually at energies of 2.5 eV or less.Challenges in coupling of shorter wavelengths(i.e.,blue light)to the nanotip has greatly inhibited the study of nanoscale phenomena in wide bandgap materials such as Si and GaN.Here,we describe the first experimental demonstration of s-SNOM using blue light. With femtosecond pulses at 410 nm,we generate terahertz pulses directly from bulk silicon, spatially resolved with nanoscale resolution, and show that these signals provide spectroscopic information that cannot be obtained using near-infrared excitation. We develop a new theoretical framework to account for this nonlinear interaction, which enables accurate extraction of material parameters. This work establishes a new realm of possibilities for the study of technologically relevant wide-bandgap materials using s-SNOM methods.Angela Pizzuto Pingchuan Ma Daniel M.Mittleman 2023Light(Science & Applications)2023,12,5:0
