Unusual disposition of lateral circumflex femoral artery: Anatomical description and clinical implications显示文摘The anatomical knowledge of arterial variations of lower limb is of utmost significance for the present day surgeons and interventional radiologists for minimizing complications during vascular reconstructive procedures, catheterization procedures and surgical intervention for embolism. Lateral Circumflex Femoral Artery(LCFA) isan important branch of Profunda Femoris artery and precise knowledge of its variations can be of great relevance during surgical and radiological procedures in femoral region. The present study reports a unique case of anomalous route taken by LCFA posterior to femoral nerve associated with a prominent muscular branch from Femoral artery mimicking the course of LCFA. Documentation of such variations is highly significant. It may serve as guideline for surgeons in reducing the incidence of postoperative complications where LCFA is used as a long vascular pedicle in anterolateral perforator thigh flap and in breast reconstruction after mastectomy. Ignorance of such variations can lead to fatal intraoperative haemorrhage and incapacitating sensory and motor deficit due to injury to femoral nerve branches which are closely related to these vessels. | Shivi Goel Jyoti Arora Vandana Mehta Mona Sharma Rajesh Kumar Suri Gayatri Rath | 2015 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2015,3,1: | 11

Optimization of flotation variables for the recovery of hematite particles from BHQ ore显示文摘The technology for beneficiation of banded iron ores containing low iron value is a challenging task due to increasing demand of quality iron ore in India. A flotation process has been developed to treat one such ore, namely banded hematite quartzite (BHQ) containing 41.8wt% Fe and 41.5wt% SiO2,by using oleic acid, methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC), and sodium silicate as the collector, frother, and dispersant, respectively. The relative effects of these variables have been evaluated in half-normal plots and Pareto charts using central composite rotatable design. A quadratic response model has been developed for both Fe grade and recovery and optimized within the experimental range. The optimum reagent dosages are found to be as follows: collector concentration of 243.58 g/t, dispersant concentration of 195.67 g/t, pH 8.69, and conditioning time of 4.8 min to achieve the maximum Fe grade of 64.25% with 67.33% recovery. The predictions of the model with regard to iron grade and recovery are in good agreement with the experimental results. | Swagat S. Rath Hrushikesh Sahoo B. | 5 | A phase Ⅱ study of gemcitabine and carboplatin combination chemotherapy in gallbladder carcinoma显示文摘BACKGROUND: Patients with carcinoma of the gallbladder have advanced, unresectable tumor at the time of presentation and face a dismal prognosis in the absence of a standard palliative chemotherapy regimen. This study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy and safety of combined chemotherapy of gemcitabine and carboplatin in 20 patients with advanced gallbladder carcinoma. METHODS: The criteria of eligibility included chemonaive patients with unresectable gallbladder cancer, bidimensionaIly measurable disease, Zubrod’s performance status≤2, and adequate major organ function. The patients received gemcitabine (1000 mg/m^2) on days 1 and 8, and carboplatin (target AUC of 5.0 mg/ml) on day 1, in a 21-day cycle. CT was used for response assessment. RESULTS: In this group of 20 patients with advanced gallbladder carcinoma 6 were men and 14 women, with a median age of 55 years. The stage of the tumor at presentation was IVB in 14 patients (70%), IVA in 3 (15%) and Ⅲ in 3 (15%). Four patients (21%) achieved a complete response, and 3 (15.7%), a partial response; an overall response rate was 36.7%. The median time to progression of the tumor was 33.8 weeks, and 1-year survival rate of the patients was 43.3%. Anemia of WHO grade Ⅲ or Ⅳ was seen in 2 patients (10%) and 1 patient (5%), respectively. Grade Ⅲ neutropenia and thrombocytopenia were observed in 2 patients (10%) and 1 patient (5%), respectively. CONCLUSION: With mild toxicity, combined chemotherapy of gemcitabine and carhoplatin is effective in the treatment of advanced gallbladder carcinoma. | Pramod Kumar Julka Tarun Puri Goura Kishore Rath | 2006 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2006,5,1: | 7
Analysis and use of fuzzy intelligent technique for navigation of humanoid robot in obstacle prone zone显示文摘With the increasing use of humanoid robots in several sectors of industrial automation and manufacturing, navigation and path planning of humanoids has emerged as one of the most promising area of research. In this paper, a navigational controller has been developed for a humanoid by using fuzzy logic as an intelligent algorithm for avoiding the obstacles present in the environment and reach the desired target position safely. Here, the controller has been designed by careful consideration of the navigational parameters by the help of fuzzy rules. The sensory information regarding obstacle distances and bearing angle towards the target are considered as inputs to the controller and necessary velocities for avoiding the obstacles are obtained as outputs. The working of the controller has been tested on a NAO humanoid robot in V-REP simulation platform. To validate the simulation results, an experimental platform has been designed under laboratory conditions, and experimental analysis has been performed. Finally, the results obtained from both the environments are compared against each other with a good agreement between them. | Asita Kumar Rath Dayal R.Parhi Harish Chandra Das Manoj Kumar Muni Priyadarshi Biplab Kumar | 2018 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2018,14,6: | 7
Port site infection in laparoscopic surgery: A review of its management显示文摘Laparoscopic surgery(LS), also termed minimal access surgery, has brought a paradigm shift in the approach to modern surgical care. Early postoperative recovery, less pain, improved aesthesis and early return to work have led to its popularity both amongst surgeons and patients. Its application has progressed from cholecystectomies and appendectomies to various other fields including gastrointestinal surgery, urology, gynecology and oncosurgery. However, LS has its own package of complications. Port site infection(PSI), although infrequent, is one of the bothersome complications which undermine the benefits of minimal invasive surgery. Not only does it add to the morbidity of the patient but also spoils the reputation of the surgeon. Despite the advances in the field of antimicrobial agents, sterilization techniques, surgical techniques, operating room ventilation, PSIs still prevail. The emergence of rapid growing atypical mycobacteria with multidrug resistance, which are the causative organism in most of the cases, has further compounded the problem. PSIs are preventable if appropriate measures are taken preoperatively, intraoperatively and postoperatively. PSIs can often be treated non-surgically, with early identification and appropriate management. Macrolides, quinolones and aminoglycosides antibiotics do show promising activity against the atypical mycobacteria. This review article highlights the clinical burden, presentations and management of PSIs in LS as shared by various authors in the literature. We have given emphasis to atypical mycobacteria, which are emerging as a common etiological agent for PSIs in LS. Although the existing literature lacks consensus regarding PSI management, the complication can be best avoided by strictly abiding by the commandments of sterilization techniques of the laparoscopic instruments with appropriate sterilizing agent. | Prakash K Sasmal Tushar S Mishra Satyajit Rath Susanta Meher Dipti Mohapatra | 2015 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2015,3,10: | 6
Innovative immunohistochemistry identifies MMP-9 expressing macrophages at the invasive front of murine HCC显示文摘AIM:To investigate the proteolytic contribution of tumor-associated macrophages(TAM)in tumor invasion,we analyzed whether TAM at the invasive front of small HCC in Abcb4-/--mice show an enhanced expression of MMP-9. METHODS:Liver cryosections of the hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)invasive front from 12 mo old Abcb4-/--mice were stained for collagen typeⅠand MMP-9 using Alexa488 and Alexa568 labeled secondary antibodies.Afterwards, the Alexa568 dye was bleached and the macrophage marker F4/80 was visualized using Alexa568 labeled secondary antibodies. Finally, photographs of the invasive tumor front were digitally overlaid and analyzed. RESULTS:After complete bleaching of the primary dye, specific fluorescence staining of a third antigen, here F4/80,was successfully performed on the same histological section. With this method,we were able to identify conglomerates of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-9)expressing macrophages within the tumor capsule of HCC. CONCLUSION:MMP-9 expressing macrophages are involved in matrix remodelling at the invasive tumor front of HCC.The described staining protocol provides a simple yet powerful extension of conventional immuno-histochemistry,facilitating visualization of at least three different antigens plus nuclei in one single histological section. | Martin Roderfeld Timo Rath Frank Lammert Christian Dierkes Jürgen Graf Elke Roeb | 2010 | World Journal of Hepatology2010,2,5: | 6
First case report of exacerbated ulcerative colitis after anti-interleukin-6R salvage therapy显示文摘We present the case of a 53-year-old woman with long-standing ulcerative colitis and severe, steroid-dependent disease course unresponsive to treatment with azathioprine, methotrexate, anti-TNF antibodies(infliximab, adalimumab) and tacrolimus, who refused colectomy as a therapeutic option. As the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-6(IL-6) had been identified as a crucial regulator in the immunopathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases, we treated the patient with biweekly intravenous infusions of an anti-IL-6R antibody(tocilizumab) for 12 wk. However, no clinical improvement of disease activity was noted. In fact, endoscopic, histological and endomicroscopic assessment demonstrated exacerbation of mucosal inflammation and ulcer formation upon anti-IL-6R therapy. Mechanistic studies revealed that tocilizumab treatment failed to suppress intestinal IL-6 production, impaired epithelial barrier function and induced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF, IL-21 and IFN-γ. Inhibition of IL-6 by tocilizumab had no clinical benefit in this patient with intractable ulcerative colitis and even led to exacerbation of mucosal inflammation. Our findings suggest that anti-IL-6R antibody therapy may leadto aggravation of anti-TNF resistant ulcerative colitis. When targeting IL-6, the differential responsiveness of target cells has to be taken into account, as IL-6 on the one side promotes acute and chronic mucosal inflammation via soluble IL-6R signaling but on the other side also strongly contributes to epithelial cell survival via membrane bound IL-6R signaling. | Raja Atreya Ulrike Billmeier Timo Rath Jonas Mudter Michael Vieth Helmut Neumann Markus F Neurath | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,45: | 5

Probit Analysis of Carbamate-Pesticide-Toxicity at Soil-Water Interface to N_2-Fixing Cyanobacterium Cylindrospermum sp.显示文摘Toxicity-data of two carbamate insecticides, carbaryl and carbofuran, and three fungicides, ziram, zineb and mancozeb with rice-field N2-fixing cyanobacterium Cylindrospermum sp.,obtained by in vitro growth and at soil-water interface, were analyzed by the probit method. Growth enhancing concentration,no-observed effective concentration, minimum inhibitory concentration, the highest permissive concentration and lethal concentration100(LC100) were determined experimentally. The LC50 values of carbaryl, carbofuran, ziram, zineb and mancozeb in N2-fixing liquid medium were 56.2,588.8,0.07,4.2 and 3.4 μg/m L,respectively, whereas the corresponding LC100 values were 100.0,1500.0,0.17,25.0 and 9.0 μg/m L,respectively. The LC50 values of these pesticides in succession in N2-fixing agar medium were 44.7,239.9,0.07,1.8 and 2.3 μg/m L,respectively, whereas the corresponding LC100 values were 100.0,600.0,0.17,10.0 and 7.0 μg/m L,respectively. Similar results with nitrate supplemented liquid and agar media indicated that nitrate supplementation had toxicity reducing effect. The LC50 and LC100 values of toxicity in the N2-fixing liquid medium at soil-water interface were 91.2 and 200.0 μg/m L for carbaryl,2 317 and 6 000 μg/m L for carbofuran,0.15 and 0.50 μg/m L for ziram,16.4 and 50.0 μg/m L for zineb, and 7.2 and 25.0 μg/m L for mancozeb, respectively. Each LC100 value at soilwater interface with a pesticide was significantly higher than its corresponding LC100 value at liquid/agar media. It can be concluded that, under the N2-fixing conditions, the cyanobacterium tolerated higher levels of each pesticide at soil-water interface. | Rabindra N.PADHY Shakti RATH | 2015 | Rice science2015,22,2: | 4

Calcitriol analog ZK191784 ameliorates acute and chronic dextran sodium sulfate-induced colitis by modulation of intestinal dendritic cell numbers and phenotype显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effects of ZK1916784, a low calcemic analog of calcitriol on intestinal inflammation. METHODS: Acute and chronic colitis was induced by dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) according to standard procedures. Mice were treated intraperitoneally with ZK1916784 or placebo and colonic inflammation was evaluated. Cytokine production by mesenterial lymph node (MLN) cells was measured by ELISA. Immunohistochemistry was performed to detect intestinal dendritic cells (DCs) within the colonic tissue, and the effect of the calcitriol analog on DCs was investigated. RESULTS: Treatment with ZK191784 resulted in significant amelioration of disease with a reduced histological score in acute and chronic intestinal inflammation. In animals with acute DSS colitis, down- regulation of colonic inflammation was associated with a dramatic reduction in the secretion of the proinflammatory cytokine interferon (IFN)-γ and a significant increase in intereleukin (IL)-10 by MLN cells. Similarly, in chronic colitis, IL-10 expression in colonic tissue increased 1.4-fold when mice were treated with ZK191784, whereas expression of the Th1-specific transcription factor T-beta decreased by 81.6%. Lower numbers of infiltrating activated CD11c+ DCs were found in the colon in ZK191784-treated mice with acute DSScolitis, and secretion of proinflammatory cytokines by primary mucosal DCs was inhibited in the presence of the calcitriol analog. CONCLUSION: The calcitriol analog ZK191784 demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory properties in experimental colitis that were at least partially mediated by the immunosuppressive effects of the derivate on mucosal DCs. | Ulrike G Strauch Florian Obermeier Nicole Grunwald Nadja Dunger Heiko C Rath Jürgen Schlmerich A Steinmeyer U Zügel HH Herfarth | 2007 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,48: | 4
Advanced gastrointestinal endoscopic imaging forinflammatory bowel diseases显示文摘Gastrointestinal luminal endoscopy is of paramount importance for diagnosis, monitoring and dysplasia surveillance in patients with both, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Moreover, with the recent recognition that mucosal healing is directly linked to the clinical outcome of patients with inflammatory bowel disorders, a growing demand exists for the precise, timely and detailed endoscopic assessment of superficial mucosal layer. Further, the novel field of molecular imaging has tremendously expanded the clinical utility and applications of modern endoscopy, now encompassing not only diagnosis, surveillance, and treatment but also the prediction of individual therapeutic responses. Within this review, we describe how novel endoscopic approaches and advanced endoscopic imaging methods such as high definition and high magnification endoscopy, dye-based and dye-less chromoendoscopy, confocal laser endomicroscopy, endocytoscopy and molecular imaging now allow for the precise and ultrastructural assessment of mucosal inflammation and describe the potential of these techniques for dysplasia detection. | Gian Eugenio Tontini Timo Rath Helmut Neumann | 2016 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2016,22,3: | 3
Superconducting single-photon detectors integrated with diamond nanophotonic circuits显示文摘Photonic quantum technologies hold promise to repeat the success of integrated nanophotonic circuits in non-classical applications.Using linear optical elements, quantum optical computations can be performed with integrated optical circuits and can therefore overcome the existing limitations in terms of scalability. In addition to passive optical devices for realizing photonic quantum gates, active elements, such as single-photon sources and single-photon detectors, are essential ingredients for future optical quantum circuits.Material systems that allow for the monolithic integration of all components are particularly attractive, including III-V semiconductors, silicon and diamond. Here,we demonstrate nanophotonic integrated circuits made from high-quality polycrystalline diamond thin films in combination with on-chip single-photon detectors.By using superconducting nanowires that are coupled evanescently to traveling waves,we achieve high detection efficiencies of up to 66%as well as low dark count rates and a timing resolution of 190 ps.Our devices are fully scalable and hold promise for functional diamond photonic quantum devices. | Patrik Rath Oliver Kahl Simone Ferrari Fabian Sproll Georgia Lewes-Malandrakis Dietmar Brink Konstantin Ilin Michael Siegel Christoph Nebel Wolfram Pernice | 2015 | Light(Science & Applications)2015,4,1: | 3
Maturity status classification of papaya fruits based on machine learning and transfer learning approach显示文摘Papaya(Carica papaya)is a tropical fruit having commercial importance because of its high nutritive and medicinal value. The packaging of papaya fruit as per its maturity status is an essential task in the fruit industry. The manual grading of papaya fruit based on human visual perception is time-consuming and destructive. The objective of this paper is to suggest a novel non-destructive maturity status classification of papaya fruits. The paper suggested two approaches based on machine learning and transfer learning for classification of papaya maturity status. Also,a comparative analysis is carried out with different methods of machine learning and transfer learning. The experimentation is carried out with 300 papaya fruit sample images which includes 100 of each three maturity stages. The machine learning approach includes three sets of features and three classifiers with their different kernel functions. The features and classifiers used in machine learning approaches are local binary pattern(LBP),histogram of oriented gradients(HOG),Gray Level Cooccurrence Matrix(GLCM)and k-nearest neighbour(KNN),support vector machine(SVM),Naı¨ve Bayes respectively. The transfer learning approach includes seven pretrained models such as ResNet101,ResNet50,ResNet18,VGG19,VGG16,GoogleNet and AlexNet.The weighted KNN with HOG feature outperforms other machine learningbased classification model with 100%of accuracy and 0.0995 s training time.Again, among the transfer learning approach based classification model VGG19 performs better with 100%accuracy and 1 min 52 s training time with consideration of early stop training. The proposed classification method for maturity classification of papaya fruits,i.e.VGG19 based on transfer learning approach achieved 100%accuracy which is 6%more than the existing method. | Santi Kumari Behera Amiya Kumar Rath Prabira Kumar Sethy | 2021 | Information Processing in Agriculture2021,8,2: | 3

Antibacterial efficacy of five medicinal plants against multidrug-resistant enteropathogenic bacteria infecting under-5 hospitalized children显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate in vitro antibacterial effectiveness of five medicinal plants used by an Indian aborigine, against 8 multidrug-resistant(MDR) enteropathogenic bacteria isolated from clinical samples of under-5 hospitalized children.METHODS: Antibiotic sensitivity patterns of eight clinically isolated strains of enteropathogenic bacteria, Enterobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella paratyphi, S. typhi, Shigella dysenteriae, S. sonnei and Vibrio cholerae were assessed by disc-diffusion method. Antibacterial activities of 8 solvent-extracts of leaves and bark of five medicinal plants were monitored by the agar-well diffusion method. The microbroth dilution method was used to assess minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC). Qualitative phytochemical analyses of active plant extracts were carried out.RESULTS: Ethanol, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Holarrhena antidysenterica leaf tissue were most effective against 8 MDR pathogens in vitro. Similarly, acetone, ethanol and methanol extracts of Terminalia alata leaf tissue; chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Terminalia arjuna leaf tissue and ethyl acetate, ethanol and methanol extracts of Paederia foetida leaf tissue were most effective in inhibiting in vitro growth of the 8 MDR enteropathogens. Ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of H. antidysenterica bark tissue; acetone, ethanol and methanol extracts of T. alata bark tissue and acetone, ethanol and methanol extracts of T. arjuna bark tissue were most effective in controlling enteropathogen growth. The minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration values of the 3 most antimicrobial leaf and bark extracts from the fi ve plants were in the range of 1.56 to 50 mg/m L.CONCLUSION: These 5 plants exhibited in vitro control over a cohort of 8 enteropathogenic bacterial strains isolated from clinical samples. | Shakti Rath Rabindra N.Padhy | 2015 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2015,13,1: | 3
A simplified LC-MS/MS method for the quantification of the cardiovascular disease biomarker trimethylamine-N-oxide and its precursors显示文摘Trimethylamine-N-oxide(TMAO)has emerged as a potential biomarker for atherosclerosis and the development of cardiovascular diseases(CVDs).Although several clinical studies have shown striking associations of TMAO levels with atherosclerosis and CVDs,TMAO determinations are not clinical routine yet.The current methodology relies on isotope-labeled internal standards, which adds to pre-analytical complexity and costs for the quantification of TMAO and its precursors carnitine, betaine or choline. Here,we report a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry based method that is fast(throughput up to 240 samples/day),consumes low sample volumes(e.g.,from a finger prick),and does not require isotope-labeled standards. We circumvented the analytical problem posed by the presence of endogenous TMAO and its precursors in human plasma by using an artificial plasma matrix for calibration. We cross-validated the results obtained using an artificial matrix with those using mouse plasma matrix and demonstrated that TMAO,carnitine, betaine and choline were accurately quantified in’reallife’human plasma samples from healthy volunteers, obtained either from a finger prick or from venous puncture.Additionally,we assessed the stability of samples stored at-20℃and room temperature.Whereas all metabolites were stable at-20℃,increasing concentrations of choline were determined when stored at room temperature. Our method will facilitate the establishment of TMAO as a routine clinical biomarker in hematology in order to assess the risk for CVDs development,or to monitor disease progression and intervention effects. | Katharina Rox Silke Rath Dietmar H.Pieper Marius Vital Mark Bronstrup | 2021 | Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2021,11,4: | 3
Loss of CD103^+ intestinal dendritic cells during colonic inflammation显示文摘AIM:To investigate possible differences in dendritic cells(DC)within intestinal tissue of mice before and after induction of colitis. METHODS:Mucosal DC derived from intestinal tissue,as well as from mesenteric lymph nodes and spleen, were analyzed by fluorescence activated cell sorting(FACS) analysis.Supernatants of these cells were analyzed for secretion of different pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence were performed on cryosections of mucosal tissue derived from animals with colitis as well as from healthy mice. RESULTS:It was shown that DC derived from healthy intestinal lamina propria(LP)represented an immature phenotype as characterized by low-level expression of costimulatory cytokines. In contrast to DC from spleen and mesenteric lymph nodes(MLN)that secreted proinflammatory cytokines,LP-DC produced high levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10.After induction of mu-rine colitis in a CD4 + CD62L + transfer model or in chronic Dextran sulfate sodium-colitis,a marked increase of activated CD80 + DC could be observed within the inflamed colonic tissue.Interestingly,in contrast to splenic DC,a significant population of DC within MLN and colonic LP expressed the mucosal integrin CD103 which was lost during colitis. CONCLUSION:The constitutive secretion of antiinflammatory cytokines by immature DC within the intestinal LP might regulate the homeostatic balance between mucosal immunity and tolerance.CD103 + DC could mediate this important function. | Ulrike G Strauch Nicole Grunwald Florian Obermeier Sonja Gürster Heiko C Rath | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,1: | 2
