1The wonders of BMP9:From mesenchymal stem cell differentiation,angiogenesis,neurogenesis,tumorigenesis,and metabolism to regenerative medicine显示文摘Although bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs)initially showed effective induction of ectopic bone growth in muscle,it has since been determined that these proteins,as members of the TGF-b superfamily,play a diverse and critical array of biological roles.These roles include regulating skeletal and bone formation,angiogenesis,and development and homeostasis of multiple organ systems.Disruptions of the members of the TGF-b/BMP superfamily result in severe skeletal and extra-skeletal irregularities,suggesting high therapeutic potential from understanding this family of BMP proteins.Although it was once one of the least characterized BMPs,BMP9 has revealed itself to have the highest osteogenic potential across numerous experiments both in vitro and in vivo,with recent studies suggesting that the exceptional potency of BMP9 may result from unique signaling pathways that differentiate it from other BMPs.The effectiveness of BMP9 in inducing bone formation was recently revealed in promising experiments that demonstrated efficacy in the repair of critical sized cranial defects as well as compatibility with bone-inducing bio-implants,revealing the great translational promise of BMP9.Furthermore,emerging evidence indicates that,besides its osteogenic activity,BMP9 exerts a broad range of biological functions,including stem cell differentiation,angiogenesis,neurogenesis,tumorigenesis,and metabolism.This review aims to summarize our current understanding of BMP9 across biology and the body.Sami Mostafa Mikhail Pakvasa Elam Coalson Allen Zhu Alex Alverdy Hector Castillo Jiaming Fan Alex Li Yixiao Feng Di Wu Elliott Bishop Scott Du Mia Spezia Alissa Li Ofir Hagag Alison Deng Winny Liu Mingyang Li Sherwin S·Ho Aravind Athiviraham Michael J·Lee Jennifer Moriatis Wolf Guillermo A·Ameer Hue H·Luu Rex C·Haydon Jason Strelzow Kelly Hynes Tong-Chuan He Russell R·Reid 2019Genes & Diseases2019,6,3:15
2Tunable liquid crystal grating based holographic 3D display system with wide viewing angle and large size显示文摘As one of the most ideal display approaches,holographic 3-dimensional(3D)display has always been a research hotspot since the holographic images reproduced in such system are very similar to what humans see the actual environment.However,current holographic 3D displays suffer from critical bottlenecks of narrow viewing angle and small size.Here,we propose a tunable liquid crystal grating-based holographic 3D display system with wide viewing angle and large size.Our tunable liquid crystal grating,providing an adjustable period and the secondary diffraction of the reconstructed image,enables to simultaneously implement two different hologram generation methods in achieving wide viewing angle and enlarged size,respectively.By using the secondary diffraction mechanism of the tunable liquid crystal grating,the proposed system breaks through the limitations of narrow viewing angle and small size of holographic 3D display.The proposed system shows a viewing angle of 57.4°,which is nearly 7 times of the conventional case with a single spatial light modulator,and the size of the reconstructed image is enlarged by about 4.2.The proposed system will have wide applications in medical diagnosis,advertising,education and entertainment and other fields.Yi-Long Li Nan-Nan Li Di Wang Fan Chu Sin-Doo Lee Yi-Wei Zheng Qiong-Hua Wang 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,7:15
3Improved corrosion resistance and thermal stability of sintered Nd-Fe-B magnets with holmium substitution显示文摘The effects of Ho substitution for Nd on the microstructure, corrosion resistance and thermal stability of the Nd-Fe-B magnets were investigated. The(Nd,Ho)-O phase was formed with increasing Ho substitution. The results of potentiodynamic polarization and highly accelerated stress test show improved corrosion resistance with increasing Ho substitution. The optimum mass loss 0.29 mg/cm^2 is achieved.Moreover, the average temperature coefficients for remanence and coercivity in the range of 25-150℃are both closer to zero, indicating improved thermal stability. 4Optical coherence tomography angiography for the anterior segment显示文摘Optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)is a rapid and non-invasive technique for imaging vasculature in the eye.As OCTA can produce high-resolution cross-sectional images and allow depth-resolved analysis for accurate localization of pathology of interest,it has become a promising method for anterior segment imaging.Furthermore,OCTA offers a more patient-friendly alternative to the conventional invasive dye-based fluorescent angiography.However,conventional OCTA systems are typically designed and optimized for the posterior segment of the eye,and thus using OCTA for anterior segment imaging can present several difficulties and limitations.In this review,we summarized the recent developments and clinical applications in anterior segment OCTA(AS-OCTA)imaging,such as for the cornea,iris,sclera and conjunctiva.We also compared commercially available OCTA systems,discussed the limitations of adapting current OCTA technology for the anterior segment imaging,and proposed possible future directions for AS-OCTA systems.AS-OCTA provides potential for future clinical applications such as diagnosis of corneal and iris pathologies,pre-operative surgical planning,assessment of new antiangiogenic therapeutics or evaluation of limbal stem cell deficiency.With further development,OCTA for anterior segment imaging in the clinics may become common in the near future.Wen Di Lee Kavya Devarajan Jacqueline Chua Leopold Schmetterer Jodhbir S.Mehta Marcus Ang 2019Eye and Vision2019,6,1:9

7Differential Inhibition of Nav1.7 and Neuropathic Pain by Hybridoma-Produced and Recombinant Monoclonal Antibodies that Target Nav1.7显示文摘The voltage-gated Na^+ channel subtype Nav1.7 is important for pain and itch in rodents and humans. We previously showed that a Nav1.7-targeting monoclonal antibody(SVmab) reduces Na+ currents and pain and itch responses in mice. Here, we investigated whether recombinant SVmab(rSVmab) binds to and blocks Nav1.7 similar to SVmab. ELISA tests revealed that SVmab was capable of binding to Nav1.7-expressing HEK293 cells,mouse DRG neurons, human nerve tissue, and the voltagesensor domain Ⅱ of Nav1.7. In contrast, rSVmab showed no or weak binding to Nav1.7 in these tests. Patch-clamp recordings showed that SVmab, but not rSVmab, markedly inhibited Na+ currents in Nav1.7-expressing HEK293 cells. Notably, electrical field stimulation increased the blocking activity of SVmab and rSVmab in Nav1.7-expressing HEK293 cells. SVmab was more effective than rSVmab in inhibiting paclitaxel-induced mechanical allodynia. SVmab also bound to human DRG neurons and inhibited their Na^+ currents. 8The Gravitational-wave physics Ⅱ: Progress显示文摘It has been a half-decade since the first direct detection of gravitational waves, which signifies the coming of the era of the gravitational-wave astronomy and gravitational-wave cosmology. The increasing number of the detected gravitational-wave events has revealed the promising capability of constraining various aspects of cosmology, astronomy, and gravity. Due to the limited space in this review article, we will briefly summarize the recent progress over the past five years, but with a special focus on some of our own work for the Key Project 'Physics associated with the gravitational waves' supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
