| 1 | The biomass and aboveground net primary productivity of Schima superba-Castanopsis carlesii forests in east China显示文摘The biomass and productivity of Schima superba-Castanopsis carlesii forests in Tiantong,Zhejiang Province,were determined using overlapping quadrants and stem analyses.The total community biomass was(225.3±30.1) t hm-2,of which the aboveground parts accounted for 72.0% and the underground parts accounted for 28.0%.About 87.2% of biomass existed in the tree layer.The resprouting biomass was small,of which over 95.0% occurred in the shrub layer.The productivity of the aboveground parts of the community was(386.8±98.9) g m-2a-1,in which more than 96.0% was present at the tree level.The trunk's contribution to productivity was the greatest,while that of leaves was the smallest.In China,the community biomass of subtropical evergreen broadleaved forests differs significantly with the age of the forest.The community biomass of the 52-year-old S.superba-C.carlesii forests in this study was lower than the average biomass of subtropical evergreen broadleaved forests in China,and was lower than the biomass of other subtropical evergreen broadleaved forests elsewhere in the world.Moreover,its productivity was lower than the model estimate,indicating that without disturbance,this community has great developmental potential in terms of community biomass and productivity. | YANG TongHui1,2,SONG Kun1,DA LiangJun1*,LI XiuPeng3 & WU JianPing1 1School of Resources and Environment Science,East China Normal University,Shanghai 200062,China 2Ningbo Academy of Agricultural Science,Ningbo 315040,China 3Ningbo Technology Extension Center for Forestry and Specialty Forest Products,Ningbo 315012,China | 2010 | Science China(Life Sciences)2010,53,7: | 23 |

| 3 | Rainfall interception by sand-stabilizing shrubs related to crown structure显示文摘On the edge of the Tengger Desert in northern China,revegetation has changed the landscape from moving dunes to stabilized dunes covered by shrubs,which further modifies the pattern of rainfall redistribution.To study rainfall interception loss by shrubs and its relationship to rainfall properties and crown structure,throughfalls passing through crowns of Artemisia ordosica Krash.and Caragana korshinskii Kom.were measured using nine PVC cups under the canopy of each of the two shrubs during 73 rain events over a three-year period,with total rainfall of 260.9 mm.Interception losses of gross rainfall by A.ordosica and C.korshinskii account for 15% and 27% of the total on a crown area basis,and 6% and 11% on a ground area basis,respectively.Individual throughfall(T) and interception(I) were significantly related to rainfall amount(Pg),duration(D),and intensity(R).Ratios of throughfall to rainfall(T/Pg) and interception to rainfall(I/Pg) were not only significantly related to Pg,D,and R,but also to shrub species,and interactions of species with crown volume(CV) and leaf area index(LAI).Under most rain events,interceptions by C.korshinskii with greater CV and LAI were significantly higher than those by A.ordosica,and more rainfall interception occurred at locations closer to the stems of the two shrubs.For C.korshinskii,I/Pg had a significant positive linear relation with CV and LAI,while T/Pg had a significant negative linear relation with them.CV has a greater influence on T/Pg and I/Pg than does LAI.Using a regression method,canopy water storage capacities are estimated to be 0.52 and 0.68 mm,and free throughfall coefficient to be 0.62 and 0.47 for A.ordosica and C.korshinskii,respectively. | ZhiShan Zhang 1*,XinRong Li 1,XueJun Dong 2,XiaoHong Jia 1,MingZhu He 1,HuiJuan Tan 1 1.Shapotou Desert Research and Experiment Station,Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Lanzhou,Gansu 730000,China.2.Central Grasslands Research Extension Center,North Dakota State University,Streeter,ND 58483,USA. | 2009 | Research in Cold and Arid Regions2009,1,2: | 9 |

| 9 | Study on Cotton Nitrogen Diagnosis and Topdressing Recommendation in North Xinjiang,China显示文摘Field experiments were conducted to study cotton nitrogen diagnosis and topdressing recommen-dation by measuring cotton tissue NO-3 concentration with Reflectoquant . Results showed that the order ofNO-3 concentration in different cotton plant tissues is petiole > stem > leaf, and upper parts> lower parts.There was significant change in each growth period, which was, NO-3 concentration in budding-blooming peri-od was the highest whereas it was the lowest in full blooming period. NO-3 concentration in the 4th expandingpetiole is relatively stable and can sensitively indicate cotton nitrogen state so it was chosen as diagnosis tissue.NO-3 content in budding-blooming period was significantly correlated with seed-cotton yield so it was chosen asdiagnosis period. Primary cotton's nitrogen diagnosis index and amount of topdressing was formulated by re-gression of NO-3 concentration against seed-cotton yield.
