| 1 | Artificially triggered lightning and its characteristic discharge parameters in two severe thunderstorms显示文摘The lightning-induced-damages in the mid-latitude regions are usually caused during severe thunder-storms. But the discharge parameters of natural lightning are difficult to be measured. Five lightning flashes have been artificially triggered with the rocket-wire technique during the passage of two severe thunderstorms. The discharge current and close electric field of return stroke in artificially triggered lightning have been obtained in microsecond time resolution by using current measuring systems and electric field change sensors. The results show that the five triggered lightning flashes include 1 to 10 return strokes, and the average return stroke current is 11.9 kA with a maximum of 21.0 kA and a mini-mum of 6.6 kA, similar to the subsequent return strokes in natural lightning. The half peak width of the current waveform is 39 μs, which is much larger than the usual result. The peak current of stroke Ip (kA) and the neutralized charge Q(C) has a relationship of Ip = 18.5Q0.65. The radiation field of return stroke is 5.9 kV·m-1 and 0.39 kV·m-1 at 60 m and 550 m, respectively. The radiation field decreases as r -1.119 with increase of horizontal distance r from the discharge channel. Based on the well-accepted transmission line model, the speed of return stroke is estimated to be about 1.4×108 m·s-1, with a variation range of (1.1―1.6)×108 m·s-1. | 2 | QTG-Seq Accelerates QTL Fine Mapping through QTL Partitioning and Whole-Genome Sequencing of Bulked Segregant Samples显示文摘Deciphering the genetic mechanisms underlying agronomic traits is of great importance for crop improvement. Most of these traits are controlled by multiple quantitative trait loci (QTLs), and identifying the underlying genes by conventional QTL fine-mapping is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Here, we devised a new method, named quantitative trait gene sequencing (QTG-seq), to accelerate QTL fine-mapping. QTGseq combines QTL partitioning to convert a quantitative trait into a near-qualitative trait, sequencing of bulked segregant pools from a large segregating population, and the use of a robust new algorithm for identifying candidate genes. Using QTG-seq, we fine-mapped a plant-height QTL in maize (Zea mays L.), qPH7, to a 300-kb genomic interval and verified that a gene encoding an NF-YC transcription factor was the functional gene. Functional analysis suggested that qPH7-encoding protein might influence plant height by interacting with a CO-like protein and an AP2 domain-containing protein. Selection footprint ana卜 ysis indicated that qPH7 was subject to strong selection during maize improvement. | 3 | A Review of Atmospheric Electricity Research in China显示文摘The importance of atmospheric electricity research has been increasingly recognized in recent decades. Research on atmospheric electricity has been actively conducted since the 1980 s in China. Lightning physics and its effects, as important branches of atmospheric electricity, have received more attention because of their significance both in scientific research and lightning protection applications. This paper reviews atmospheric electricity research based primarily on ground-based field experiments at different regions in China in the last decade. | 4 | Ferrimagnetic m PEG-b-PHEP copolymer micelles loaded with iron oxide nanocubes and emodin for enhanced magnetic hyperthermia–chemotherapy显示文摘As a non-invasive therapeutic method without penetration-depth limitation,magnetic hyperthermia therapy(MHT)under alternating magnetic field(AMF)is a clinically promising thermal therapy.However,the poor heating conversion efficiency and lack of stimulus–response obstruct the clinical application of magnetofluid-mediated MHT.Here,we develop a ferrimagnetic polyethylene glycol-poly(2-hexoxy-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphospholane)(m PEG-b-PHEP)copolymer micelle loaded with hydrophobic iron oxide nanocubes and emodin(denoted as EMM).Besides an enhanced magnetic resonance(MR)contrast ability(r2=271 m M^-1 s^-1)due to the high magnetization,the specific absorption rate(2518 W/g at 35 k A/m)and intrinsic loss power(6.5 n Hm2/kg)of EMM are dozens of times higher than the clinically available iron oxide nanoagents(Feridex and Resovist),indicating the high heating conversion efficiency.Furthermore,this composite micelle with a flowable core exhibits a rapid response to magnetic hyperthermia,leading to an AMF-activated supersensitive drug release.With the high magnetic response,thermal sensitivity and magnetic targeting,this supersensitive ferrimagnetic nanocomposite realizes an above 70%tumor cell killing effect at an extremely low dosage(10μg Fe/m L),and the tumors on mice are completely eliminated after the combined MHT–chemotherapy. | Yonghong Song Dongdong Li Yang Lu Kun Jiang Yi Yang Yunjun Xu Liang Dong Xu Yan Daishun Ling Xianzhu Yang Shu-Hong Yu | 2020 | National Science Review2020,7,4: | 4 |
| 5 | Maize MS2 encodes an ATP-binding cassette transporter that is essential for anther development显示文摘The anther cuticle and pollen exine play a critical role in male gametophyte development. The sporopollenin precursors and cuticular lipid monomers are transported to the surface of the microspores and the epidermis by lipid transport proteins(LTPs) and ATP-binding cassette G(ABCG) transporters for the formation of the pollen wall and anther cuticle, respectively. However, the function of ABCG transporters in maize anther development is unclear. Here, we cloned the MS2 gene from the maize male sterile2 mutant using map-based cloning and determined that it encodes an ABCG transporter. MS2 protein was experimentally confirmed to be located on the cell membrane. The quantitative real-time PCR(qRT-PCR)results showed that MS2 was ubiquitously expressed in all vegetative and reproductive tissues, whereas a high transcriptional level of MS2 was observed in anthers, especially at the young microspore stage. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC–MS) analysis showed decreased accumulation of cutin and wax components in ms2 anthers, indicating that MS2 plays a role in the transport of lipid molecules to anther cuticle and pollen exine. | 8 | Numerical studies of reverse flows controlled by undulating leading edge显示文摘The improved delayed detached-eddy simulation(IDDES) method is used to simulate the reverse flows past an NACA0012 airfoil at medium(10°) and large(30°) angles of attack. The numerical results of the baseline configuration are compared with the available measurements. The effects of the undulating leading edge with four different amplitudes are compared and analyzed at angle of attack of 10°. Based on these analyses, the amplitude of A/C=0.04 yields the best performance. Compared with the uncontrolled case, the performances of the undulating leading edge are greatly improved with reducing of the aerodynamic fluctuations. | 11 | Lack of evolutionary changes identified in SARS-CoV-2 for the re-emerging outbreak of COVID-19 in Beijing,China显示文摘Although significant achievements have shown that the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID‐19)resurgence in Beijing,China,was initiated by contaminated frozen products and transported via cold chain transportation,international travelers with asymptomatic symptoms or false‐negative nucleic acid may have another possible transmission mode that spread the virus to Beijing.One of the key differences between these two assumptions was whether the virus actively replicated since,so far,no reports showed viruses could stop evolution in alive hosts.We studied severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS‐CoV‐2)sequences in this outbreak by a modified leaf‐dating method with the Bayes factor.The numbers of single nucleotide variants(SNVs)found in SARS‐CoV‐2 sequences were significantly lower than those called from B.1.1 records collected at the matching time worldwide(P=0.047).In addition,results of the leaf‐dating method showed ages of viruses sampled from this outbreak were earlier than their recorded dates of collection(Bayes factors>10),while control sequences(selected randomly with ten replicates)showed no differences in their collection dates(Bayes factors<10).Our results which indicated that the re‐emergence of SARS‐CoV‐2 in Beijing in June 2020 was caused by a virus that exhibited a lack of evolutionary changes compared to viruses collected at the corresponding time,provided evolutionary evidence to the contaminated imported frozen food should be responsible for the reappearance of COVID‐19 cases in Beijing.The method developed here might also be helpful to provide the very first clues for potential sources of COVID‐19 cases in the future. | Yang Li Yunjun Zhang Mifang Liang Yi Zhang Xuejun Maa Yong Zhang Xiaohua Zhou | 2022 | Biosafety and Health2022,4,1: | 1 |

| 20 | A review and comparison of surface incident shortwave radiation from multiple data sources: satellite retrievals, reanalysis data and GCM simulations显示文摘Surface incident shortwave radiation(Rs)can promote the circulation of substance and energy,and the accuracy of its estimation is of great significance for climate studies.The Rs can be acquired from satellite retrievals,reanalysis predictions and general circulation model(GCM)simulations.Although Rs estimates have been evaluated and compared in previous studies,most of them focus on evaluating the Rs estimates over specific regions using ground measurements from limited stations.Therefore,it is essential to comprehensively validate Rs estimates from multiple data sources.In this study,ground measurements of 690 stations from BSRN,GEBA,CMA,GC-NET and buoys were employed to validate the Rs estimates from seven representative products(GLASS,GEWEX-SRB,CERES-EBAF,ERA5,MERRA2,CFSR and CMIP6).The validation results indicated that the selected products overestimated Rs globally,with biases ranged from 0.48 to 21.27 W/m^(2).The satellite retrievals showed relatively better accuracy among seven datasets compared to ground measurements at the selected stations.Moreover,the selected seven products were all in poor accuracy at high-latitude regions with RMSEs greater than 50 W/m^(2).The long-term variation trends were also analyzed in this study. | Shuyue Yang Xiaotong Zhang Shikang Guan Wenbo Zhao Yanjun Duan Yunjun Yao Kun Jia Bo Jiang | 2023 | International Journal of Digital Earth2023,16,1: | 1 |
