| 1 | Chinese deserts and sand fields in Last Glacial Maximum and Holocene Optimum显示文摘The Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, c. 26-16 ka) and the Holocene Optimum (HO, c. 9-5 ka) were characterized by cold-dry and warm-wet climates respectively in the recently geological Earth. How Chinese deserts and sand fields responded to these distinctive climatic changes is still not clear, however. To reconstruct environments of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO is helpful to understand the forcing mechanisms of environment change in this arid region, and to test paleoclimatic modeling results. Through our long-term field and laboratory investigations, 400 optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) ages and more than 100 depositional records in the Chinese deserts and sand fields were obtained; on the basis of these data, we reconstruct spatial distributions of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO. Our results show that the sand fields of Mu Us, Hunshandake, Horqin and Hulun Buir in northern and northeastern China had expanded 25%, 37%, 38% and 270%, respectively, during the LGM; the sand fields of Gonghe in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau had expanded 20%, and the deserts of Badain Jaran, Tengger in central northern China had expanded 39% and 29% separately during the LGM; the deserts of Taklimakan, Gurbantünggüt and Kumtag in northwestern China had expanded 10%-20% respectively, compared to their modern areas. On the other hand, all of the sand fields were nearly completely covered by vegetation during the HO; the deserts in northwestern and central northern China were reduced by around 5%-20% in area during this time. Lakes in this arid region were probably expanded during the HO but this conclusion needs more investigation. Compared with the geological distributions of deserts and sand fields, human activity has clearly changed (expanded) the area of active sand dunes at the present time. | 4 | Heavy metals in a typical city-river-reservoir system of East China:Multi-phase distribution,microbial response and ecological risk显示文摘The rapid construction of artificial reservoirs in metropolises has promoted the emergence of city-river-reservoir systems worldwide.This study investigated the environmental behaviors and risks of heavy metals in the aquatic environment of a typical system composed of main watersheds in Suzhou and Jinze Reservoir in Shanghai.Results shown that Mn,Zn and Cu were the dominant metals detected in multiple phases.Cd,Mn and Zn were mainly presented in exchangeable fraction and exhibited high bioavailability.Great proportion and high mobility of metals were found in suspended particulate matter(SPM),suggesting that SPM can greatly affect metal multi-phase distribution process.Spatially,city system(Ci S)exhibited more serious metal pollution and higher ecological risk than river system(Ri S)and reservoir system(Re S)owing to the diverse emission sources.Ci S and Re S were regarded as critical pollution source and sink,respectively,while Ri S was a vital transportation aisle.Microbial community in sediments exhibited evident spatial variation and obviously modified by exchangeable metals and nutrients.In particular,Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes presented significant positive correlations with most exchangeable metals.Risk assessment implied that As,Sb and Ni in water may pose potential carcinogenic risk to human health.Nevertheless,Re S was in a fairly safe state.Hg was the main risk contributor in SPM,while Cu,Zn,Ni and Sb showed moderate risk in sediments.Overall,Hg,Sb and Ci S were screened out as priority metals and system,respectively.More attention should be paid to these priority issues to promote the sustainable development of the watershed. | Jun Yang Mingrui Zhou Kaifeng Yu Karina Yew-Hoong Gin Muhammad Hassan Yiliang He | 2022 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,2: | 2 |
| 5 | Fluorescence and Photosensitizing Behavior of N-(p-Phenoxyphenyl)methacrylamide and Its Polymer显示文摘A novel acrylic monomer bearing aromatic ethereality group N-(p -phenoxy-phenyl) methacrylamide(MAPOA) was synthesized and polymerized. The fluorescence spectra of MAPOA and its polymer were studied, showing that the polymer displays a stronger fluorescence than its monomer at the same chromophore concentration. The fluorescence of P(MAPOA) was quenched by adding electron deficiency monomers such as MMA, AN etc .. It is another example of showing the 'fluorescence structural self-quenching effect' as we reported previously, from which it is demonstrated again that this phenomenon is not an accidental one but a common effect for acrylic monomers bearing electon-donating chromophores. The photopolymerization of AN sensitized by MAPOA and P(MAPOA) was studied. The kinetic equation of the polymerization was obtained and represented as follows: R _p∝ 0.38 × 0.78 , R _p∝ 0.33 × 0.71 The overall activation energies were determined to be E_ a =24\^22 kJ/mol(MAPOA) and E_ a =26\^31 kJ/mol respectively. The fluorescence analysis of the resulted P(AN) showed that the sensitizer also entered into the P(AN) chains. | 14 | Review of trans-Mediterranean power grid interconnection:a regional roadmap towards energy sector decarbonization显示文摘Climate change is becoming an important issue in all fields of infrastructure development.Electricity plays a core role in the decarbonized energy system’s path to a regional zero-emission pattern.A well-built trans-Mediterranean backbone grid can hedge the profound evolution of regional power generation,transmission,and consumption.To date,only Turkey and the Maghreb countries(i.e.,Morocco,Algeria,and Tunisia)are connected with the Continental European Synchronous Area.Other south-and east-shore countries have insufficient interconnection infrastructures and synchronization difficulties that have proven to be major hurdles to the implementation of large-scale solar and wind projects and achievement of climate goals.This study analyzes the current trans-boundary grid interconnections and power and carbon emission portfolios in the Mediterranean region.To align with the recently launched new climate target‘Fit for 55’program and the accelerated large-scale renewables target,a holistic review of projected trans-Mediterranean grids and their market,technical,and financial obstacles of implementation was conducted.For south-and east-shore countries,major legal and regulatory barriers encompassing non-liberalized market structure,regulation gaps of taxation and transmission tariffs,and the private sector’s access rights need to be removed.Enhancement of domestic grids,substations,and harmonized grid codes and frequency,voltage,and communication technology standards among all trans-Mediterranean countries are physical prerequisites for implementing the Trans-Mediterranean Electricity Market.In addition,the mobilization of capital instruments along with private and international investments is indispensable for the realization of supranational transmission projects.As the final section of the decarbonization roadmap,the development of electric appliances,equipment,and vehicles with higher efficiency is inevitable in the decarbonized building,transportation,and industry sectors. | Kaifeng Yu Paul van Son | 2023 | Global Energy Interconnection2023,6,1: | 1 |

| 18 | Application of Regularization Methods in the Sky Map Reconstruction of the Tianlai Cylinder Pathfinder Array显示文摘The Tianlai cylinder pathfinder is a radio interferometer array to test 21 cm intensity mapping techniques in the post-reionization era.It works in passive drift scan mode to survey the sky visible in the northern hemisphere.To deal with the large instantaneous field of view and the spherical sky,we decompose the drift scan data into m-modes,which are linearly related to the sky intensity.The sky map is reconstructed by solving the linear interferometer equations.Due to incomplete uv coverage of the interferometer baselines,this inverse problem is usually ill-posed,and regularization method is needed for its solution.In this paper,we use simulation to investigate two frequently used regularization methods,the Truncated Singular Value Decomposition(TSVD),and the Tikhonov regularization techniques.Choosing the regularization parameter is very important for its application.We employ the generalized cross validation method and the L-curve method to determine the optimal value.We compare the resulting maps obtained with the different regularization methods,and for the different parameters derived using the different criteria.While both methods can yield good maps for a range of regularization parameters,in the Tikhonov method the suppression of noisy modes are more gradually applied,produce more smooth maps which avoids some visual artefacts in the maps generated with the TSVD method. | Kaifeng Yu Shifan Zuo Fengquan Wu Yougang Wang Xuelei Chen | 2024 | Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics2024,24,2: | 0 |
