2Baicalin induces ferroptosis in bladder cancer cells by downregulating FTH1显示文摘Ferroptosis is a non-apoptotic regulated cell death caused by iron accumulation and subsequent lipid peroxidation.Currently,the therapeutic role of ferroptosis on cancer is gaining increasing interest.Baicalin an active component in Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi with anticancer potential various cancer types;however,the effects of baicalein on bladder cancer and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown.In the study,we investigated the effect of baicalin on bladder cancer cells5637 and KU-19-19.As a result,we show baicalin exerted its anticancer activity by inducing apoptosis and cell death in bladder cancer cells.Subsequently,we for the first time demonstrate baicalin-induced ferroptotic cell death in vitro and in vivo,accompanied by reactive oxygen species(ROS) accumulation and intracellular chelate iron enrichment.The ferroptosis inhibitor deferoxamine but not necrostatin-1,chloroquine(CQ),N-acetyl-L-cysteine,L-glutathione reduced,or carbobenzoxy-valyl-alanyl-aspartyl-[O-methyl]-fluoromethylketone(Z-VAD-FMK) rescued baicalin-induced cell death,indicating ferroptosis contributed to baicalin-induced cell death.Mechanistically,we show that ferritin heavy chain1(FTH1) was a key determinant for baicalin-induced ferroptosis.Overexpression of FTH1 abrogated the anticancer effects of baicalin in both 5637 and KU19-19 cells.Taken together,our data for the first time suggest that the natural product baicalin exerts its anticancer activity by inducing FTH1-dependent ferroptosis,which will hopefully provide a prospective compound for bladder cancer treatment.Na Kong Xiaying Chen Jiao Feng Ting Duan Shuiping Liu Xueni Sun Peng Chen Ting Pan Lili Yan Ting Jin Yu Xiang Quan Gao Chengyong Wen Weirui Ma Wencheng Liu Mingming Zhang Zuyi Yang Wengang Wang Ruonan Zhang Bi Chen Tian Xie Xinbing Sui Wei Tao 2021Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2021,11,12:23

4Increasing the hole energy by grading the alloy composition of the p-type electron blocking layer for very high-performance deep ultraviolet light-emitting diodes显示文摘It is well known that the p-type AlGaN electron blocking layer(p-EBL) can block hole injection for deep ultraviolet light-emitting diodes(DUV LEDs). The polarization induced electric field in the p-EBL for [0001] oriented DUV LEDs makes the holes less mobile and thus further decreases the hole injection capability. Fortunately,enhanced hole injection is doable by making holes lose less energy, and this is enabled by a specifically designed p-EBL structure that has a graded AlN composition. The proposed p-EBL can screen the polarization induced electric field in the p-EBL. As a result, holes will lose less energy after going through the proposed p-EBL, which correspondingly leads to the enhanced hole injection. 6Efficient ternary organic solar cells based on a twin spiro-type non-fullerene acceptor显示文摘A novel small-molecule(SM) acceptor DTF-IC is designed and synthesized in this work. The power conversion efficiency(PCE) of ternary OSCs increased up to 12.14% from 10.90% by incorporating 10 wt% of DTF-IC as second acceptors into the binary OSCs consisting of PBDB-T as donor and IT-M as acceptor. This was mainly due to the large increase in short-circuit current(Jsc) from 16.18 to 17.95 mA/cm^2, without any drop in the open-circuit voltage(Voc) and fill factor(FF). The addition of DTF-IC enabled the donor and acceptor to form a distinct complementary absorption profile in the visible-light region, which boosted the photon harvesting in the range of 730–800 nm and consequently increased the Jscof the ternary system by 11%. Moreover, there was an energy transfer between the two SM acceptors, favorable for enhancing charge separation and transfer as well as reducing charge recombination at PBDB-T:IT-M and PBDB-T:DTF-IC interface. Simultaneously, HOMO and LUMO energy levels of DTF-IC were lower than those of PBDB-T, but still higher than those of IT-M. Thus, DTF-IC is able to provide a cascading energy level with the host donor and acceptor which are beneficial for efficient charge transfer between the acceptors and facilitating exciton dissociation and carrier transport. Meanwhile, the highly crystalline DTF-IC as a third component can improve the crystallization process of the active layer while maintaining proper phase separation.
