| 1 | Protective effect of tannins from Ficus racemosa in hypercholesterolemia and diabetes induced vascular tissue damage in rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the protective effect of tannins from Ficus racemosa(F.racemosa) on the lipid profile and antioxidant parameters in high fat meal and streptozotocin induced hypercholestremia associated diabetes model in rats.Methods:The crude tannin fraction was separated from the acetone(70%v/v) bark extract of F.racemosa.Oral administratipn of tannin fraction(TF)(100 & 200 mg/kg body weight) to rats fed with high fat meal for 30 days (4%cholesterol,1%cholic acid,0.5%egg albumin) and injected with streptozotocin(35 mg/ kg i.p.in citrate buffer on 14th day).Results:The administration of TF significantly reverse the increased blood glucose,total cholesterol,triglycerides,low density lipoprotein and also significandy restored the insulin and high density lipoprotein in the serum.In addition tannins significantly restored the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase,catalase and decreased the,glutathione peroxidase,and glutathione,thereby restoring the antioxidant status of the organs to almost normal levels.Conclutions:The results of this study show that two different doses of tannin supplementation had a favorable effect on plasma glucose and lipid profile concentrations.It also had an influence on attenuating oxidative stress in diabetic tats. | Velayutham Ravichandiran Sankaradoss Nirmala KFH Nazeer Ahamed | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,5: | 5 |
| 2 | Predictors of malignancy in chronic calcific pancreatitis with head mass显示文摘AIM: To prospectively analyse the clinical, biochemical and radiological characteristics of the mass lesions arising in a background of chronic calcific pancreatitis (CCP). METHODS: Eighty three patients, who presented with chronic pancreatitis (CP) and a mass lesion in the head of pancreas between February 2005 and December 2011, were included in the study. Patients who were identified to have malignancy underwent Whipple' s procedure and patients whose investigations were suggestive of a benign lesion underwent Frey's procedure. Student t-test was used to compare the mean values of imaging findings [common bile duct (CBD), main pancreatic duct (MPD) size] and laboratory data [Serum bilirubin, carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9)] between the groups. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve) analysis was done to calculate the cutoff valves of serum bilirubin, CA 19-9, MPD and CBD size. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive valve (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) were calculated using these cut off points. Multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression model. RESULTS: The study included 56 men (67.5%) and 27 women (32.5%). Sixty (72.3%) patients had tropical calcific pancreatitis and 23 (27.7%) had alcohol related CCP. Histologically, it was confirmed that 55 (66.3%) of the 83 patients had an inflammatory head mass and 28 (33.7%) had a malignant head mass. The mean age of individuals with benign inflammatory mass and those with malignant mass was 38.4 years and 45 years respectively. Significant clinical features that predicted a malignant head mass in CP were presence of a head mass in CCP of tropics, old age, jaundice, sudden worsening abdominal pain, gastric outlet obstruction and significant weight loss (P ≤ 0.05). The ROC curve analysis showed a cut off value of 5.8 mg/dL for serum bilirubin, 127 U/mL for CA 19-9, 11.5 mm for MPD size and 14.5 mm for CBD size. | 3 | Prominent catalytic activity of mesoporous molecular sieves in the vapor phase dehydration of cyclohexanol to cyclohexene显示文摘Cerium incorporated KIT-6 mesoporous materials were synthesized through direct hydrothermal method and characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen sorption isotherm (BET), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), inductively coupled plasma -atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), diffuse reflectance ultraviolet visible spectroscopy (DRS-UV-Vis), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods. It appeared that stable cerium ions were inserted into the silica framework of KIT-6, thus generating acid properties in their host materials. The catalytic activity of Ce-KIT-6 materials was evaluated in the vapor phase dehydration of cyclohexanol to cyclohexene and dicyclohexyl ether at different temperatures with various Si/Ce molar ratios. Ce-KIT-6 (25) showed higher activity with 54% cyclohexanol conversion and 64% selectivity to cyclohexene. | 4 | ZSM-5沸石结晶度对乙苯叔丁基化对位选择性的影响(英文)显示文摘Highly crystalline ZSM-5 zeolites are important for para-selective alkylation of alkyl aromatics, because they carry few external acid sites for isomerization of p-dialkyl products. Such zeolites (Si/Al = 25, 50, and 75) were synthesized in a fluoride medium between pH 4 and 6. Their crystallinities, crystal sizes, and surface areas were higher than those of a commercial ZSM-5 zeolite. Their para selectivities in alkylation were tested for vapor-phase tert-butylation of ethylbenzene between 200 and 400 °C. As expected, all the catalysts showed more than 90% para selectivity. At 300 °C, ethylbenzene conversion decreased in the order ZSM-5(25, commercial) > ZSM-5(25) > ZSM-5(50) > ZSM-5(75). The catalysts had weak, medium, and strong acid sites, but all the acid sites of ZSM-5(75) were weaker than those of ZSM-5(25) and ZSM-5(50). The high activity of commercial ZSM-5 was caused by its strong acid sites being stronger than those of the synthesized zeolites. Although the activity of the commercial catalyst was higher than those of the present catalysts, the selectivity for 4-t-butylethylbenzene (4-t-BEB) was low. The optimum feed ratio (ethylbenzene:t-butyl alcohol) was 2:1 and the feed rate was 1.65 h?1 for high ethylbenzene conversion and 4-t-BEB selectivity. Time-on-stream studies showed slow catalyst deactivation. Highly crystalline ZSM-5 zeolites are therefore better than a commercial zeolite for para-selective alkylation of alkyl aromatics. They do not require much post-modification for high para selectivity. | 5 | Larvicidal activity of green synthesized silver nanoparticles using bark aqueous extract of Ficus racemosa against Culex quinquefasciatus and Culex gelidus显示文摘Objective:To investigate the larvicidal activity of synthesized silver nanoparticles(Ag NPs) utilizing aqueous bark extract of Ficus racemosa(F.racemosa) was tested against fourth instar larvae of filariasis vector,Culex quinquefasciatus(Cx.quinquefasciatus) and japanese encephalitis vectors,Culex gelidus(Cx.gelidus).Methods:The synthesized Ag NPs was characterized by UV-vis spectrum,X-ray diffraction(XRD),Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR).The larvicidal activities were assessed for 24 h against the larvae of Cx.quinquefasciatus and Cx.gelidus with varying concentrations of aqueous bark extract off.racemosa and synthesized Ag NPs.LC50 and r2 values were calculated.Results:The maximum efficacy was observed in crude aqueous extract of F.racemosa against the larvae of Cx.quinquefasciatus and Cx.gelidus(LC50=67.72 and 63.70 mg/L;r2=0.995 and 0.985) and the synthesized Ag NPs(LC50=12.00 and 11.21 mg/L;r2=0.997 and 0.990).respectively.Synthesized Ag NPs showed the XRD peaks at 2θvalues of 27.61,29.60,35.48,43.48 and 79.68 were identified as (210),(121),(220),(200) and(311) reflections,respectively.The FTIR spectra of Ag NPs exhibited prominent peaks at 3 425,2 878,1 627 and 1 382 in the region 500-3 000 cm-1.The peaks correspond to the presence of a stretching vibration of(NH) C=O group.SEM analysis showed shape in cylindrical,uniform and rod with the average size of 250.60 nm.Conclusions:The biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using bark aqueous extract of F.racemosa and its larvicidal activity against the larvae of disease spreading vectors.The maximum larvicidal efficacy was observed in the synthesized Ag NPs. | Kanayairam Velayutham Abdul Abdul Rahuman Govindasamy Rajakumar Selvaraj Mohana Roopan Gandhi Elango Chinnaperumal Kamaraj Sampath Marimuthu Thirunavukkarasu Santhoshkumar Moorthy Iyappan Chinnadurai Siva | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,2: | 2 |
| 6 | Is bactibilia a predictor of poor outcome of pancreaticoduodenectomy?显示文摘BACKGROUND:Although bile infection has been proposed to increase infective complications following pancreaticoduodenectomy,its association with infective complications and non-infective complications like pancreatic fistula is still controversial.METHODS:Seventy-six patients who had undergone pancreaticoduodenectomy between July 2007 and December 2008 were included in a prospective database and their data analyzed.In all patients intraoperative bile from the bile duct was cultured.Preoperative,intra-operative,and post-operative variables were recorded and analyzed.RESULTS:Bile culture showed positive growth in 35 patients and negative growth in 41.Twenty patients in the positive group underwent ERCP and stenting.The patients with a positive bile culture had a higher incidence of infective complications including intra-abdominal abscess (n=8),wound infection (n=27),bacteremia (n=10),and renal insufficiency (n=9).There was no increase in the rate of non-infective complications of pancreaticoduodenectomy including pancreatic fistula (n=7),delayed gastric emptying (n=9),and post-operative hemorrhage (n=3).The hospital stay was significantly prolonged in the patients with a positive bile culture (P=0.0002).CONCLUSIONS:Pre-operative biliary drainage is significantly associated with bile infection,and bile infection increases the overall rates of infective complications and renal insufficiency.Because of the high incidence of complications is associated with infected bile,routine intra-operative bile culture is recommended in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy.Pre-operative prophylaxis is dependent on sensitivity of cases to perioperative antibiotics and intraoperative bile culture report.Because of its significant association with infected bile,biliary stenting should be used in strictly selected cases. | Sivanpillay Mahadevan Sivaraj Velayutham Vimalraj Palanichamy Saravanaboopathy Shanmugasundaram Rajendran Sathyanesan Jeswanth Palaniappan Ravichandran Rosy Vennilla Rajagopalan Surendran | 2010 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2010,9,1: | 2 |

| 8 | Al-MCM-48分子筛对苯酚与乙酸异丙酯异丙基化反应的催化性能(英文)显示文摘Al-MCM-48 molecular sieves (Si/Al molar ratios = 25, 50, 75, and 100) were synthesized hydrothermally using cetyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide as the structure directing template. The orderly arrangement of mesopores was evident from the low angle X-ray diffraction patterns and transmission electron microscopy images. The catalytic performance of the materials was evaluated in the vapor phase isopropylation of phenol with isopropyl acetate. Phenol conversion decreased with the increase in the Si/Al ratio of the catalysts. The major reaction product was 4-isopropyl phenol with 78% selectivity. The delocalization of phenolic oxygen electron pair over the aromatic ring promoted para-selective alkylation. Such delocalization could be aided by the hydrophilic surface of the molecular sieves. | 20 | Unsupervised Quick Reduct Algorithm Using Rough Set Theory显示文摘Feature selection (FS) is a process to select features which are more informative. It is one of the important steps in knowledge discovery. The problem is that not all features are important. Some of the features may be redundant, and others may be irrelevant and noisy. The conventional supervised FS methods evaluate various feature subsets using an evaluation function or metric to select only those features which are related to the decision classes of the data under consideration. However, for many data mining applications, decision class labels are often unknown or incomplete, thus indicating the significance of unsupervised feature selection. However, in unsupervised learning, decision class labels are not provided. In this paper, we propose a new unsupervised quick reduct (QR) algorithm using rough set theory. The quality of the reduced data is measured by the classification performance and it is evaluated using WEKA classifier tool. The method is compared with existing supervised methods and the result demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. | C. Velayutham K.
