1Tolerance of Grasses to Heavy Metals and Microbial Functional Diversity in Soils Contaminated with Copper Mine Tailings显示文摘Copper(Cu) mine tailings,because of their high content of heavy metals,are usually hostile to plant colonization.A pot experiment was conducted to determine the tolerance of four forage grasses to heavy metals in Cu mine tailings and to examine the variation in the microbial functional diversity of soils from the tailing sites in southern China.All the four grass species survived on Cu mine tailings and Cu mine tailing-soil mixture.However,on pure mine tailings,the growth was minimal,whereas the growth was maximum for the control without mine tailings.The tolerance of grasses to heavy metals followed the sequence:Paspalum notatum > Festuca arundinacea > Lolium perenne > Cynodon dactylon.The planting of forage grasses enhanced the soil microbial biomass.The Biolog data indicated that the soil microbial metabolic profile values(average well color development,community richness,and Shannon index) of the four forage grasses also followed the sequence:P.notatum > F.arundinacea > L.perenne > C.dactylon.Thus,P.notatum,under the experimental conditions of this study,may be considered as the preferred plant species for revegetation of Cu mine tailing areas.TENG Ying LUO Yong-Ming HUANG Chang-Yong LONG Jian LI Zhen-Gao P. 2Isolation and Identification of a Di-(2-Ethylhexyl)Phthalate-Degrading Bacterium and Its Role in the Bioremediation of a Contaminated Soil显示文摘Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate(DEHP) is a high-molecular-weight phthalate ester(PAE) that has been widely used in the manufacture of polyvinylchloride and contributes to environmental pollution.The objectives of the present study were to isolate a DEHP degrader that can utilize DEHP as a carbon source and to investigate its capacity to biodegrade DEHP in both liquid culture and soil.A bacterial strain WJ4 was isolated from an intensively managed vegetable soil,which was contaminated with PAEs.The strain WJ4 was affiliated to the genus Rhodococcus and was able to remove DEHP from soil effectively.A period of only 7 d was required to degrade about 96.4%of DEHP(200 mg L^(-1)) in the liquid culture,and more than 55%of DEHP(1.0 g kg^(-1)) in the artificially contaminated soil was removed within 21 d.Furthermore,Rhodococcus sp.strain WJ4 had a strong ability to degrade DEHP without additional nutrients in liquid minimal medium culture and DEHP-contaminated soil and to degrade the homologue of DEHP in both liquid culture and soil.Strain WJ4 represents a novel tool for removing PAEs from contaminated soils and it may have great potential for application in the remediation of environmental pollution by PAEs.WANG Jun ZHANG Man-Yun CHEN Ting ZHU Ye TENG Ying LUO Yong-Ming Peter CHRISTIE 2015Pedosphere2015,25,2:18
3Design and fabrication of broadband ultralow reflectivity black Si surfaces by laser micro/nanoprocessing显示文摘Light collection efficiency is an important factor that affects the performance of many optical and optoelectronic devices.In these devices,the high reflectivity of interfaces can hinder efficient light collection.To minimize unwanted reflection,anti-reflection surfaces can be fabricated by micro/nanopatterning.In this paper,we investigate the fabrication of broadband anti-reflection Si surfaces by laser micro/nanoprocessing.Laser direct writing is applied to create microstructures on Si surfaces that reduce light reflection by light trapping.In addition,laser interference lithography and metal assisted chemical etching are adopted to fabricate the Si nanowire arrays.The anti-reflection performance is greatly improved by the high aspect ratio subwavelength structures,which create gradients of refractive index from the ambient air to the substrate.Furthermore,by decoration of the Si nanowires with metallic nanoparticles,surface plasmon resonance can be used to further control the broadband reflections,reducing the reflection to below 1.0%across from 300 to 1200 nm.An average reflection of 0.8%is achieved.Jing Yang Fangfang Luo Tsung Sheng Kao Xiong Li Ghim Wei Ho Jinghua Teng Xiangang Luo Minghui Hong 2014Light(Science & Applications)2014,3,1:17

5Exosomes derived from human amniotic epithelial cells accelerate diabetic wound healing via PI3K-AKT-mTOR-mediated promotion in angiogenesis and fibroblast function显示文摘Background:Diabetic wounds are one of the most common and serious complications of diabetes mellitus,characterized by the dysfunction of wound-healing-related cells in quantity and quality.Our previous studies revealed that human amniotic epithelial cells(hAECs)could promote diabetic wound healing by paracrine action.Interestingly,numerous studies demonstrated that exosomes derived from stem cells are the critical paracrine vehicles for stem cell therapy.However,whether exosomes derived from hAECs(hAECs-Exos)mediate the effects of hAECs on diabetic wound healing remains unclear.This study aimed to investigate the biological effects of hAECs-Exos on diabetic wound healing and preliminarily elucidate the underlying mechanism.Methods:hAECs-Exos were isolated by ultracentrifugation and identified by transmission electron microscopy,dynamic light scattering and flow cytometry.A series of in vitro functional analyses were performed to assess the regulatory effects of hAECs-Exos on human fibroblasts(HFBs)and human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs)in a high-glycemic microenvironment.Highthroughput sequencing and bioinformatics analyses were conducted to speculate the related mechanisms of actions of hAECs-Exos on HFBs and HUVECs.Subsequently,the role of the candidate signaling pathway of hAECs-Exos in regulating the function of HUVECs and HFBs,as well as in diabetic wound healing,was assessed.Results:hAECs-Exos presented a cup-or sphere-shaped morphology with a mean diameter of 105.89±10.36 nm,were positive for CD63 and TSG101 and could be internalized by HFBs and HUVECs.After that,hAECs-Exos not only significantly promoted the proliferation and migration of HFBs,but also facilitated the angiogenic activity of HUVECs in vitro.High-throughput sequencing revealed enriched miRNAs of hAECs-Exos involved in wound healing.Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes and Gene Ontology analyses have shown that the target genes of the top 15 miRNAs were highly enriched in the PI3K-AKT pathway.Further functional studies demonstrated that the PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway was necessary for the induced biological effects of hAECs-Exos on HFBs and HUVECs,as well as on wound healing,in diabetic mice.Conclusions:Our findings demonstrated that hAECs-Exos represent a promising,novel strategy for diabetic wound healing by promoting angiogenesis and fibroblast function via activation of the PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway.Pei Wei Chenjian Zhong Xiaolan Yang Futing Shu Shichu Xiao Teng Gong Pengfei Luo Li Li Zhaohong Chen Yongjun Zheng Zhaofan Xia 2020Burns & Trauma2020,8,1:12
6The enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP显示文摘In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. 7Comparative study on the corrosion behavior of X52, 3Cr, and 13Cr steel in an O2–H2O–CO2 system: products, reaction kinetics, and pitting sensitivity显示文摘The corrosion behaviors of X52, 3Cr low-alloy steel, and 13Cr stainless steel were investigated in an O_2–H2O–CO_2 environment at various temperatures and O_2–CO_2 partial-pressure ratios. The results showed that the corrosion rates of X52, 3Cr, and 13Cr steels increased with increasing temperature. The corrosion rates slowly increased at temperatures less than 100°C and increased sharply when the temperature exceeded 100°C. In the absence of O_2, X52, 3Cr, and 13Cr exhibited uniform corrosion morphology and Fe CO3 was the main corrosion product. When O_2 was introduced into the system, various forms of Fe_2O_3 appeared on the surface of the samples. The Cr content strongly influenced the corrosion resistance. The 3Cr steel with a low Cr content was more sensitive to pitting than the X52 or 13Cr steel. 8Effects of long-term fertilizer applications on peanut yield and quality and plant and soil heavy metal accumulation显示文摘The status of essential and potentially toxic trace elements in soils and crops can be affected by long-term fertilization practices. This study aimed to investigate changes in peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) yield and kernel quality, and changes in copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), and cadmium (Cd)concentrations in soil and peanut kernels after 16 years of continuous cropping with different fertilization treatments. Five fertilization treatments were applied at a red soil site in Southeast China:chemical fertilizer (F) containing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, F+trace elements (FT), pig manure (M), M+effective microorganisms (MB), and MB+trace elements (MBT). Properties of soil and pig manure, heavy metal contents in soil and peanut kernels, and the compositions of amino and fatty acids in kernels were determined. Application of pig manure significantly increased peanut biomass, kernel yield, and crude protein and total amino acid contents in kernels, but led to higher amounts of Cu, Zn, and Cd in soil and higher amounts of Zn and Cd in peanut kernels compared with that of chemical fertilizer. 9Physiological and Antioxidant Responses of Germinating Mung Bean Seedlings to Phthalate Esters in Soil显示文摘Single phytotoxicity of two representative phthalate esters(PAEs),di-n-butyl phthalate(DnBP)and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate(DEHP),was tested in mung bean(Vigna radiata)seedlings germinated for 72 h in soils spiked with varying concentrations(0-500 mg kg^(-1)soil)of DnBP or DEHP.PAEs added at up to 500 mg kg^(-1)soil exerted no significant effect on germination but both pollutants significantly inhibited root elongation(P<0.01),DEHP inhibited shoot elongation(P<0.01)and DnBP depressed biomass on a fresh weight basis(P<0.05).Seedling shoot and root malondialdehyde(MDA)contents tended to be stimulated by DnBP but inhibited by DEHP.However,increases in superoxide dismutase,peroxidase,ascorbate peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activities,as well as glutathione(GSH)content,were induced at higher concentrations(e.g.,20 mg kg^(-1))of both compounds.Accumulation of proline in both roots and shoots and the storage compounds,such as free amino acids and total soluble sugars,in whole plant was induced under the stress exerted by both PAEs.The general responses of mung bean seedlings indicated higher toxicity of DnBP than DEHP on primary growth,during which root elongation was a more responsive index.MDA and GSH were more sensitive parameters in the roots than in the shoots and they might be recommended as physiologically sensitive parameters to assess the toxicity of PAE compounds in soils in future long-term studies.MA Ting-Ting P.CHRISTIE LUO Yong-Ming TENG Ying 2014Pedosphere2014,24,1:8
10Adsorption and desorption characteristics of diphenylarsenicals in two contrasting soils显示文摘Diphenylarsinic acid(DPAA) is formed during the leakage of aromatic arsenic chemical weapons in soils,is persistent in nature,and results in arsenic contamination in the field.The adsorption and desorption characteristics of DPAA were investigated in two typical Chinese soils,an Acrisol(a variable-charge soil) and a Phaeozem(a constant-charge soil).Their thermodynamics and some of the factors influencing them(i.e.,initial pH value,ionic strength and phosphate) were also evaluated using the batch method in order to understand the environmental fate of DPAA in soils.The results indicate that Acrisol had a stronger adsorption capacity for DPAA than Phaeozem.Soil DPAA adsorption was a spontaneous and endothermic process and the amount of DPAA adsorbed was affected significantly by variation in soil pH and phosphate.In contrast,soil organic matter and ionic strength had no significant effect on adsorption.This suggests that DPAA adsorption may be due to specific adsorption on soil mineral surfaces.Therefore,monitoring the fate of DPAA in soils is recommended in areas contaminated by leakage from chemical weapons.Anan Wang Shixin Li Ying Teng Wuxin Liu Longhua Wu Haibo Zhang Yujuan Huang Yongming Luo Peter Christie 2013Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,6:8
11Marek’s disease virus-encoded microRNAs: genomics, expression and function显示文摘MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are the recently discovered small non-coding RNA molecules that have post-transcriptional regulatory functions in many important biological processes. A large number of miRNAs have been found to be encoded by viral genomes, especially in herpesviruses. Previous research regarding miRNAs encoded by herpesviruses, including Marek’s disease virus (MDV), has demonstrated their involvement in lytic replication, latent infection, T-lymphocyte transformation and tumorigenesis. MDV is an oncogenic alphaherpesvirus, with the ability to induce tumors in natural hosts; however, formation of these tumors can be prevented by immunization with attenuated or nonpathogenic forms of the virus. Marek’s disease is considered to be a good biomedical model for investigating the biology, genetics, and immunology of tumorigenesis. In this paper, we review the discovery and identification of MDV-encoded miRNAs, along with their genomics, expression profiles, and currently known functions. 12A new procedure combining GC-MS with accelerated solvent extraction for the analysis of phthalic acid esters in contaminated soils显示文摘An optimized procedure based on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) combined with accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) is developed for the analysis of six phthalic acid esters (PAEs), which are priority soil pollutants nominated by United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). Quantification of PAEs in soil employs ultrasonic extraction (UE) (USEPA 3550) and ASE (USEPA 3545), followed by clean up procedures involving three different chromatography columns and two combined elution methods. GC-MS conditions under selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode are described and quality assurance and quality control (QA/ QC) criteria with high accuracy and sensitivity for target analytes were achieved. Method reliability is assured with the use of an isotopically labeled PAE, di-n-butyl phthalate-d4 (DnBP-D4), as a surrogate, and benzyl benzoate (BB) as an internal standard, and with the analysis of certified reference materials (CRM). QA/QC for the developed procedure was tested in four PAE-spiked soils and one PAE-contaminated soil. The four spiked soils were originated from typical Chinese agricultural fields and the contaminated soil was obtained from an electronic waste dismantling area. Instrument detection limits (IDLs) for the six PAEs ranged 0.10-0.31 μg·L-1 and method detection limits (MDLs) of the four spiked soils varied from a range of 20-70 μg· kg -1 to a range of 90-290 μg· kg-1. Lineal-iVy of response between 20 μg· L-1 and 2mg.L~ was also established and the correlation coefficients (R) were a11〉0.998. Spiked soil matrix showed relative recovery rates between 75 and 120% for the six target compounds and about 93% for the surrogate substance. 13Confined van der Waals Epitaxial Growth of Two-Dimensional Large Single-Crystal In_(2)Se_(3) for Flexible Broadband Photodetectors显示文摘The controllable growth of two-dimensional(2D)semiconductors with large domain sizes and high quality is much needed in order to reduce the detrimental efect of grain boundaries on device performance but has proven to be challenging.Here,we analyze the precursor concentration on the substrate surface which signifcantly infuences nucleation density in a vapor deposition growth process and design a confned micro-reactor to grow 2D In_(2)Se_(3) with large domain sizes and high quality.Te uniqueness of this confned micro-reactor is that its size is∼102-103 times smaller than that of a conventional reactor.Such a remarkably small reactor causes a very low precursor concentration on the substrate surface,which reduces nucleation density and leads to the growth of 2D In_(2)Se_(3) grains with sizes larger than 200�m.Our experimental results show large domain sizes of the 2D In_(2)Se_(3) with high crystallinity.Te fexible broadband photodetectors based on the as-grown In_(2)Se_(3) show rise and decay times of 140 ms and 25 ms,efcient response(5.6 A/W),excellent detectivity(7×10^(10) Jones),high external quantum efciency(251%),good fexibility,and high stability.Tis study,in principle,provides an efective strategy for the controllable growth of high quality 2D materials with few grain boundaries.Lei Tang Changjiu Teng Yuting Luo Usman Khan Haiyang Pan Zhengyang Cai Yue Zhao Bilu Liu Hui-Ming Cheng 2019Research2019,,1:7
14Immunotherapy in liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma:Pros and cons显示文摘Liver transplantation(LT)has emerged as a curative strategy for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),but contributes to a higher predisposition to HCC recurrence in the immunosuppression context,especially for tumors beyond the Milan criteria.Although immunotherapy has dramatically improved survival for immunocompetent patients and has become the standard of care for a variety of tumors,including HCC,it is mainly used outside the scope of organ transplantation owing to potentially fatal allograft rejection.Nevertheless,accumulative evidence has expanded the therapeutic paradigms of immunotherapy for HCC,from downstaging or bridging management in the pretransplant setting to the salvage or adjuvant strategy in the posttransplant setting.Generally,immunotherapy mainly includes immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs),adoptive cell transfer(ACT)and vaccine therapy.ICIs,followed by ACT,have been most investigated in LT,with some promising results.Because of the complex tumor microenvironment and immunoreactivity when immunosuppressants are combined with immunotherapy,it is difficult to reach formulations for immunosuppressant adjustment and the optimal selection of immunotherapy as well as patients.In addition,the absence of effective biomarkers for identifying rejection and tumor response is still an unresolved barrier to successful clinical immunotherapy applications for LT.In this review,we comprehensively summarize the available evidence of immunotherapy used in LT that is specific to HCC.Moreover,we discuss clinically concerning issues regarding the concurrent goals of graft protection and antitumor response.Yi Luo Fei Teng Hong Fu Guo-Shan Ding 2022World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2022,14,1:7
15Inhibition of microRNA-29b suppresses oxidative stress and reduces apoptosis in ischemic stroke显示文摘MicroRNAs(miRNAs) regulate protein expression by antagonizing the translation of mRNAs and are effective regulators of normal nervous system development, function, and disease. Micro RNA-29 b(mi R-29 b) plays a broad and critical role in brain homeostasis. In this study, we tested the function of mi R-29 b in animal and cell models by inhibiting mi R-29 b expression. Mouse models of middle cerebral artery occlusion were established using the modified Zea-Longa suture method. Prior to modeling, 50 nmol/kg mi R-29 b antagomir was injected via the tail vein. Mi R-29 b expression was found to be abnormally increased in ischemic brain tissue. The inhibition of mi R-29 b expression decreased the neurological function score and reduced the cerebral infarction volume and cell apoptosis. In addition, the inhibition of mi R-29 b significantly decreased the malondialdehyde level, increased superoxide dismutase activity, and Bcl-2 expression, and inhibited Bax and Caspase3 expression. PC12 cells were treated with glutamate for 12 hours to establish in vitro cell models of ischemic stroke and then treated with the mi R-29 antagomir for 48 hours. The results revealed that mi R-29 b inhibition in PC12 cells increased Bcl-2 expression and inhibited cell apoptosis and oxidative damage. These findings suggest that the inhibition of mi R-29 b inhibits oxidative stress and cell apoptosis in ischemic stroke, producing therapeutic effects in ischemic stroke. 16Strain hardening behavior of Mg-Y alloys after extrusion process显示文摘The strain hardening is an effective mode of enhancing mechanical properties in alloys.In this work,the strain hardening behaviors of Mg-xY(x=1,2,and 3 wt%)after extrusion process was investigated using uniaxial tensile tests.Results suggest that the Mg-xY alloys are composed ofα-Mg with a little amount of Mg24Y5 phase.The average grain size reduces from 19.8μm to 12.2μm as the Y content adds from 1 wt%to 2 wt%.Nevertheless,when Y content reaches 3 wt%,the grain size reaches to 12.9μm,which is close to that of Mg-2Y.The strain hardening rate decreases from 883 MPa to 798 MPa at(σ-σ0.2)=40 MPa,and Mg-2Y and Mg-3Y have the similar strain hardening response.Moreover,Mg-1Y shows an obvious ascending stage after the steep decreasing stage,which is mainly caused by the activation of twinning.The strain hardening behavior of Mg-xY is explained based on understanding the roles of the deformation mechanisms via deformation microstructure analysis and Visco-Plastic Self Consistent(VPSC)model.The variation of strain hardening characteristics with increasing Y content is related to the effects of grain size and texture.Chaoyue Zhao Ziyan Li Jiahui Shi Xianhua Chen Teng Tu Zhu Luo Renju Cheng Andrej Atrens Fusheng Pan 2019Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2019,7,4:6

18Effects of Passes on Microstructure Evolution and Mechanical Properties of Mg–Gd–Y–Zn–Zr Alloy During Multidirectional Forging显示文摘The multidirectional forging(MDF) process was conducted at temperature of 753 K to optimize the mechanical properties of as-homogenized Mg–13 Gd–4 Y–2 Zn–0.6 Zr alloy containing long-period stacking ordered phase. The effects of MDF passes on microstructure evolution and mechanical properties were also investigated. The results show that both the volume fraction of dynamic recrystallization(DRX) grains and mechanical properties of the deformed alloy enhanced with MDF passes increasing till seven passes. The average grain size decreased from 76 to 2.24 lm after seven passes, while the average grain size increased to 7.12 lm after nine passes. The microstructure after seven passes demonstrated randomly oriented fine DRX grains and larger basal(0001)\11'20[ Schmid factor of 0.31. The superior mechanical properties at room temperature(RT) with ultimate tensile strength(UTS) of 416 MPa and fracture elongation of 4.12% can be obtained after seven passes. The mechanical properties at RT after nine passes are inferior to those after seven passes due to the coarsening of DRX grains, which can be ascribed to the static recovery resulting from the repeated heating at the interval of MDF passes. The elevated temperature mechanical properties of the deformed alloy after seven passes and nine passes were investigated. 19Methylprednisolone microsphere sustained-release membrane inhibits scar formation at the site of peripheral nerve lesion显示文摘Corticosteroids are widely used for the treatment of acute central nervous system injury. However, their bioactivity is limited by their short half-life. Sustained release of glucocorticoids can prolong their efficacy and inhibit scar formation at the site of nerve injury. In the present study, we wrapped the anastomotic ends of the rat sciatic nerve with a methylprednisolone sustained-release membrane. Compared with methylprednisone alone or methylprednisone microspheres, the methylprednisolone microsphere sustained-release membrane reduced tissue adhesion and inhibited scar tissue formation at the site of anastomosis. It also increased sciatic nerve function index and the thickness of the myelin sheath.
