1Metastatic clear cell variant of hepatocellular carcinoma with an occult hepatic primary显示文摘Metastatic clear cell carcinomas are commonly seen in the kidney and lung. Clear cell variant of hepatocellular carci- noma is an uncommon tumour. Diagnosis is usually made by correlation of histopathology. tumour markers and im- munohistochemistry, especially HepPar 1. In this unusual case of metastatic clear cell carcinoma presenting as Sister Mary Joseph’s nodule, no primary evidence was observed radiologically in the liver, but the level of alfa fetoprotein was markedly elevated. 3Performance Comparison of DCT and VQ Based Techniques for Iris Recognition显示文摘Iris recognition enjoys universality,high degree of uniqueness and moderate user co-operation.This makes iris recognition systems unavoidable in emerging security & authentication mechanisms.An iris recognition system based on vector quantization (VQ) techniques is proposed and its performance is compared with the discrete cosine transform (DCT).The proposed system does not need any pre-processing and segmentation of the iris.We have tested Linde-BuzoGray (LBG),Kekre's proportionate error (KPE) algorithm and Kekre's fast codebook generation (KFCG) algorithm for the clustering purpose.Proposed vector quantization based method using KFCG requires 99.99% less computations as that of full 2-dimensional DCT.Further,the KFCG method gives better performance with the accuracy of 89.10% outperforming DCT that gives accuracy around 66.10%.H.B.Kekre Tanuja K. 4Peripheral nerve axons contain machinery for co-translational secretion of axonally-generated proteins显示文摘The axonal compartment of developing neurons and mature peripheral nervous system (PNS) neurons has the capacity to locally synthesize proteins. Axonally-synthesized proteins have been shown to facilitate axonal pathfinding and maintenance in developing central nervous system (CNS) and PNS neurons, and to facilitate the regeneration of mature PNS neurons. RNA-profiling studies of the axons of cultured neurons have shown a surprisingly complex population of mRNAs that encode proteins for a myriad of functions. Although classic-appearing rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER), smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi apparatus have not been documented in axons by ultrastructural studies, axonal RNA profiling studies show several membrane and secreted protein-encoding mRNAs whose translation products would need access to a localized secretory mechanism. We previously showed that the axons of cultured neurons contain functional equivalents of RER and Golgi apparatus. Here, we show that markers for the signal-recognition particle, RER, ER, and Golgi apparatus are present in PNS axons in vivo. Co-localization of these proteins mirrors that seen for cultured axons where locally-translated proteins are localized to the axoplasmic membrane. Moreover, nerve injury increases the levels and/or aggregation of these proteins, suggesting that the regenerating axon has an increased capacity for membrane targeting of locally synthesized proteins.Tanuja Merianda Jeffery Twiss 2013Neuroscience Bulletin2013,29,4:2
5Precision phenotyping of contrasting potato(Solanum tuberosum L.) varieties in a novel aeroponics system for improving nitrogen use efficiency: In search of key traits and genes显示文摘With increasing population, degrading soil health, limited arable land area, and high cost of nitrogen(N) fertilizers, improving nitrogen use efficiency(NUE) of potato is an inevitable approach to save the environment and achieve sufficient tuber yields with less N fertilizer supply. Recently, we have developed an aeroponics system to study NUE in potato using genomics, physiology, and breeding approaches. This study aims on precision phenotyping of plants of two distinct potato varieties(Kufri Gaurav, N efficient;Kufri Jyoti, N inefficient) in the novel aeroponics system. Plants were grown in aeroponics under controlled conditions with low N(0.75 mmol L^-1NO3^-) and high N(7.5 mmol L^-1NO3^-) levels. Plant biomass, root traits, total chlorophyll content, and plant N were increased with increasing N supply, whereas higher NUE parameters namely NUE, agronomic NUE(Ag NUE), N uptake efficiency(NUp E), harvest index(HI), and N harvest index(NHI) were observed at low N. An NUE efficient cv. Kufri Gaurav showed higher tuber dry weight, fresh tuber yield, tuber number per plant, early start of tuber harvesting, root traits, stolon traits, NUE parameters, and higher amino acid(aspartic acid and asparagine) content at low N supply. Higher expression of nitrate reductase(NR), nitrite reductase(NIR), and asparagine synthetase(AS) genes was observed in the leaf tissues of Kufri Gaurav at high N. Thus, aeroponics-based precision phenotyping enables identification of NUE efficient genotypes based on key traits and genes involved in improving NUE in potato.
