1Multi-criteria decision based geospatial mapping of flood susceptibility and temporal hydro-geomorphic changes in the Subarnarekha basin, India显示文摘The Subarnarekha River in east India experiences frequent high magnitude flooding in monsoon season.In this study,we present an in-depth analysis of flood hydrology and GIS-based flood susceptibility mapping of the entire catchment.About 40 years of annual peak discharge data,historical cross-sections of different gauging sites,and 12 flood conditioning factors were considered.Our flood susceptibility mapping followed an expert knowledge-based multi-parametric analytical hierarchy process(AHP)and optimized AHP-VIP methods.Peak hydrology data indicated more than 5 times higher discharge contrasted with the mean streamflow of the peak monsoon month in all hydro-monitoring stations that correspond to possible overbank flooding in the shallow semi-alluvial reaches of the Subarnarekha River.Widthdepth ratio revealed continuous changes on the channel cross-sections at decadal scale in all gauging sites.Predicted flood susceptibility map through optimized AHP-VIP method showed a great amount of areas(38%)have a high probability of flooding and demands earnest attention of administrative bodies.The AHP-VIP based flood susceptibility map was theoritically validated through AUC approach and it showed fairly high accuracy(AUC=0.93).Our study offers an exceptionally cost and time effective solution to the flooding issues in the Subarnarekha basin.Sumit Das Amitesh Gupta 2021Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,5:1

11INFLUENCE OF RIGID BOUNDARY ON THE LOVE WAVE PROPAGATION IN ELASTIC LAYER WITH VOID PORES显示文摘In this paper,a mathematical model for Love wave propagation in a porous elastic layer under a rigid boundary resting over a poro-elastic half-space has been developed.The study shows that such a medium transmits two types of Love waves.The first front depends on the change in volume fraction of the pores whereas the second front depends upon the modulus of rigidity of the elastic matrix of the medium and is the same as the Love wave in an elastic layer over an elastic half-space.It is observed that the first front is many times faster than the shear wave in the medium with void pores due to the change in the volume fraction of the pores and is significant.Sumit Kumar Vishwakarma Shishir Gupta Dinesh Kumar Majhi 2013Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2013,26,5:1
12Sexual Dimorphism of Foramen Magnum between Two Different Groups of Indian Population: A Cross‑Sectional Cone‑Beam Computed Tomography Study显示文摘The foramen magnum (FM), being a vital landmark at the base of the skull, includes interests to many fields of medicine. Many authors haverecounted the usefulness of the FM in gender determination. The emphasis of this study is to evaluate the shape and dimensions of the FM among males and females and to establish its role in sexual dimorphism using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Furthermore, to evaluate the area and FM index (FMI) among males and females and finally to evaluate the differences in FM measurements if any in twodifferent regions of an Indian population. One hundred and ten CBCT scans (55 males and 55 females;age range, 20–80 years) were selectedfor this study. The sagittal diameter, transverse diameter, area, FMI, and circumference of FM were measured, and data were subjected to discriminant analysis for the evaluation of sexual dimorphism. The area of FM was the best discriminant parameter which was used to study the sexual dimorphism with an overall accuracy of 90.9%. 14An efficient analytical technique for fractional partial differential equations occurring in ion acoustic waves in plasma显示文摘In this work,we apply an efficient analytical algorithm namely homotopy perturbation Sumudu transform method(HPSTM)to find the exact and approximate solutions of linear and nonlinear time-fractional regularized long wave(RLW)equations.The RLW equations describe the nature of ion acoustic waves in plasma and shallow water waves in oceans.The derived results are very significant and imperative for explaining various physical phenomenons.The suggested method basically demonstrates how two efficient techniques,the Sumudu transform scheme and the homotopy perturbation technique can be integrated and applied to find exact and approximate solutions of linear and nonlinear time-fractional RLW equations.The nonlinear expressions can be simply managed by application of He’s polynomials.The result shows that the HPSTM is very powerful,efficient,and simple and it eliminates the round-off errors.It has been observed that the proposed technique can be widely employed to examine other real world problems.Amit Goswami Jagdev Singh Devendra Kumar Sumit Gupta Sushila 2019Journal of Ocean Engineering and Science2019,4,2:0
15Selective Cluster-Based Temperature Monitoring System for Homogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks显示文摘Over the past few decades, there has been a revolution in ICT, and this has led to the evolution of wireless sensor networks(WSN), in particular, wireless body area networks. Such networks comprise a specialized collection of sensor nodes(SNs) that may be deployed randomly in a body area network to collect data from the human body. In a health monitoring system, it may be essential to maintain constant environmental conditions within a specific area in the hospital. In this paper, we propose a temperature-monitoring system and describe a case study of a health-monitoring system for patents critically ill with the same disease and in the same environment. We propose Enhanced LEACH Selective Cluster(E-LEACH-SC) routing protocol for monitoring the temperature of an area in a hospital. We modified existing Selective Cluster LEACH protocol by using a fixed-distance-based threshold to divide the coverage region in two subregions. Direct data transmission and selective cluster-based data transmission approaches were used to provide short-range and long-distance coverage for the collection of data from the body of ill patients. Extensive simulations were run by varying the ratio of node densities of the two subregions in the health-monitoring system. Last Node Alive(LNA), which is a measure of network lifespan, was the parameter for evaluating the performance of the proposed scheme. 16Biomarkers in sepsis-looking for the Holy Grail or chasing a mirage!显示文摘Sepsis is defined as a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by the dysregulated host response to infection.It is a complex syndrome and is characterized by physiologic,pathologic and biochemical abnormalities in response to an infection.Diagnosis of sepsis is based on history,physical examination and other investigations(including biomarkers)which may help to increase the certainty of diagnosis.Biomarkers have been evaluated in the past for many diseases and have been evaluated for sepsis as well.Biomarkers may find a possible role in diagnosis,prognostication,therapeutic monitoring and anti-microbial stewardship in sepsis.Since the pathophysiology of sepsis is quite complex and is incompletely understood,a single biomarker that may be robust enough to provide all information has not been found as of yet.However,many biomarkers have been studied and some of them have applications at the bedside and guide clinical decision-making.We evaluated the PubMed database to search for sepsis biomarkers for diagnosis,prognosis and possible role in antibiotic escalation and de-escalation.Clinical trials,meta-analyses,systematic reviews and randomized controlled trials were included.Commonly studied biomarkers such as procalcitonin,Soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator(Supar),presepsin,soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1,interleukin 6,C-reactive protein,etc.,have been described for their possible applications as biomarkers in septic patients.The sepsis biomarkers are still an area of active research with newer evidence adding to the knowledge base continuously.For patients presenting with sepsis,early diagnosis and prompt resuscitation and early administration of anti-microbials(preferably within 1 h)and source control are desired goals.Biomarkers may help us in the diagnosis,prognosis and therapeutic monitoring of septic patients.The marker redefining our view on sepsis is yet a mirage that clinicians and researchers continue to chase.Neelmani Ahuja Anjali Mishra Ruchi Gupta Sumit Ray 2023World Journal of Critical Care Medicine2023,12,4:0
17Scurvy: An unusual presentation of cerebral palsy显示文摘Scurvy is caused by prolonged severe dietary deficiency of ascorbic acid, in which the breakdown of intercellular cement substances leads to capillary hemorrhages and defective growth of fibroblasts, osteoblasts and odontoblasts, resulting in impaired synthesis of collagen, osteoid and dentine. It is characterized by hemorrhagic gingivitis, subperiosteal hemorrhages,perifollicular hemorrhages, and frequently petechia hemorrhages(especially on the feet). People with abnormal dietary habits, mental illness or physical disability are prone to develop this disease. Epiphysea separation is known to occur in scurvy but is rarely seen now. Epiphyseal separation from the metaphysis is always through the zone of calcified cartilage,known as 'scorbutic lattice', which in the radiographs is represented as 'the white line of Frenkel'. We report a case of multiple epiphyseal separations in a cerebra palsy child because of vitamin C deficiency. The child was treated with splintage of extremity and nutritiona supplementation.
