| 1 | Role of live microbial feed supplements with reference to anaerobic fungi in ruminant productivity: A review显示文摘To keep the concept of a safe food supply to the consumers, animal feed industries world over are showing an increasing interest in the direct-fed microbials(DFM) for improved animal performance in terms of growth or productivity. This becomes all the more essential in a situation, where a number of the residues of antibiotics and/or other growth stimulants reach in milk and meat with a number of associated potential risks for the consumers. Hence, in the absence of growth stimulants, a positive manipulation of the rumen microbial ecosystem to enhance the feedstuff utilization for improved production efficiency by ruminants has become of much interest to the researchers and entrepreneurs. A few genera of live microbes(i.e., bacteria, fungi and yeasts in different types of formulations from paste to powder) are infrequently used as DFM for the domestic ruminants. These DFM products are live microbial feed supplements containing naturally occurring microbes in the rumen. Among different DFM possibilities, anaerobic rumen fungi(ARF) based additives have been found to improve ruminant productivity consistently during feeding trials. Administration of ARF during the few trials conducted, led to the increased weight gain, milk production, and total tract digestibility of feed components in ruminants. Anaerobic fungi in the rumen display very strong cell-wall degrading cellulolytic and xylanolytic activities through rhizoid development, resulting in the physical disruption of feed structure paving the way for bacterial action. Significant improvements in the fiber digestibility were found to coincide with increases in ARF in the rumen indicating their role. Most of the researches based on DFM have indicated a positive response in nutrient digestion and methane reducing potential during in vivo and/or in vitro supplementation of ARF as DFM. | 3 | Treatment options for unstable trochanteric fractures: Screw or helical proximal femoral nail显示文摘Purpose: To compare treatment outcome of screw proximal femoral nail (PFN) system with that of a helical PFN. Methods: The study included 77 patients with closed unstable intertrochanteric fracture classified as AO 31A2 & 31A3, between June 2008 to August 2011. Inclusion criteria were: all mature skeletons above 50 years of age; closed unstable trochanteric fracture classified as AO 31A2 & A3. Exclusion criteria were: immature skeleton, pathological fracture of any cause other than osteoporosis, inability to walk inde- pendently prior to injury. Patients were randomized to 2 treatment groups based on admission sequence. Forty patients were treated with screw PFN and thirty seven were treated with helical PFN. Results: Both groups were similar in respect of time of surgery, blood loss and functional assessment and duration of hospitalization. In screw PFN group 2 patients had superficial wound infection, 1 patient had persistent hip pain and 1 patient had shortening 〉1 cm but 〈2 cm, while in helical PFN group 1 patient had superficial wound infection. Conclusion: Both screw and helical PFN are very effective implants in osteoporotic and unstable trochanteric fractures even in Indian patients where the bones are narrow and neck diameter is small. | 4 | Does a staged treatment of high energy tibial plateau fractures affect functional results and bony union?A case series显示文摘Purpose:Tibial plateau fracture(TPF)is a devastating injury as it shatters lower articular surface of the largest joint.Apart from bony injury,TPF can lead to great soft tissue envelope compromise which affects the treatment plan and outcome.In the present study,clinical results were assessed in cases of high energy TPFs treated in staged manner.Methods:Twenty-three(20 males and 3 females)patients of high energy communited TPFs(Schatzker typeⅤandⅥ)were consecutively treated.1 All the patient had compromise of overlying skin conditions.They were all successively scheduled for staged treatment plan which comprised of application of bridging knee external fixator on the first day of admission and definitive internal fixation after skin and soft tissue overlying the fracture were healed.Schatzker typeⅠ,Ⅱ,ⅢandⅣwere excluded from the study.Primary survey was done and patient who had head injury,chest and abdominal injury,pelvic injury and contralateral limb injury and open fractures were excluded from the study.The patients were also evaluated in terms of wound complications,axial and rotary alignment of limb,fixation failure,articular congruity and range of motion of the knees and post injury employment.Statistical analysis was done using SPSS software.Results:Maximum follow-up period was 13 months.All the fractures were united at final follow-up.Clinical evaluation was done with the Tegner Lysholm knee scoring scale.2 Excellent results were found in 78%cases and good and fair results in 22%cases.There was significant correlation between range of motion and the Tegner Lysholm knee score(p<0.001,Pearson correlation coefficient=0.741).The correlation between the score and the radiographical union duration was significant(p=0.006,Pearson correlation coefficient=-0.554).Conclusion:A staged treatment plan allows healing of soft tissue envelope,with avoidance of dreadful complications such as compartment syndrome and chronic infection.In addition,a staged treatment strategy does not hamper the fracture reduction,bony union and the functional results. | Nilesh Barwar Abhay Elhence Sumit Banerjee Nitesh gahlot | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Traumatology2020,23,4: | 7 |

| 6 | Comparative assessment of total polyphenols, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of different tea varieties of Bangladesh显示文摘Objective: To determine the total polyphenol content, antioxidant activity and antibacterial properties of the extracts of different Bangladeshi tea varieties such as flowery broken orange pekoe, broken orange pekoe, red dust and green tea.Methods: Total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined by Folin–Ciocalteu and aluminum chloride colorimetric assay, respectively.The antioxidant capacity was determined by ferric ion reducing antioxidant power and phosphomolybdenum method.Antibacterial activity was evaluated by disc diffusion method in agar plate and subsequently, the minimum inhibitory concentration was determined by broth dilution method.Results: Total phenolic and flavonoid contents were significantly higher(P < 0.05) in green tea compared to other three black tea varieties.The green tea also showed a higher free radical scavenging and antioxidant activities than all the other tea varieties tested(P < 0.05).In addition, the extracts of all four tea varieties showed inhibitory activity against several pathogenic bacteria and also the same trend of higher antimicrobial activity of green tea than other tea varieties was observed.Conclusions: Taken together, the results of this study demonstrated that Bangladeshi tea,especially the green tea, may act as a substitute for natural antioxidants and as a promising antibacterial agent for beneficial influence in human health. | Yead Morshed Nibir Ahmed Faisal Sumit Anwarul Azim Akhand Nazmul Ahsan Mohammad Shahnoor Hossain | 2017 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2017,7,4: | 6 |

| 8 | Neuroprotective potential of Quercetin in combination with piperine against 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-induced neurotoxicity显示文摘1-Methy-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine(MPTP)is a neurotoxin that selectively damages dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta and induces Parkinson’s like symptoms in rodents.Quercetin(QC)is a natural polyphenolic bioflavonoid with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties but lacks of clinical attraction due to low oral bioavailability.Piperine is a well established bioavailability enhancer used pre-clinically to improve the bioavailability of antioxidants(e.g.,Quercetin).Therefore,the present study was designed to evaluate the neuroprotective potential of QC together with piperine against MPTP-induced neurotoxicity in rats.MPTP(100μg/μL/rat,bilaterally)was injected intranigrally on days 1,4 and 7 using a digital stereotaxic apparatus.QC(25 and 50 mg/kg,intragastrically)and QC(25 mg/kg,intragastrically)in combination with piperine(2.5 mg/kg,intragastrically)were administered daily for 14 days starting from day 8 after the 3^(rd) injection of MPTP.On day 22,animals were sacrificed and the striatum was isolated for oxidative stress parameter(thiobarbituric acid reactive substances,nitrite and glutathione),neuroinflammatory cytokine(interleukin-1β,interleukin-6,and tumor necrosis factor-α)and neurotransmitter(dopamine,norepinephrine,serotonin,gamma-aminobutyric acid,glutamate,3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid,homovanillic acid,and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid)evaluations.Bilateral infusion of MPTP into substantia nigra pars compacta led to significant motor deficits as evidenced by impairments in locomotor activity and rotarod performance in open field test and grip strength and narrow beam walk performance.Both QC(25 and 50 mg/kg)and QC(25 mg/kg)in combination with piperine(2.5 mg/kg),in particular the combination therapy,significantly improved MPTP-induced behavioral abnormalities in rats,reversed the abnormal alterations of neurotransmitters in the striatum,and alleviated oxidative stress and inflammatory response in the striatum.These findings indicate that piperine can enhance the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of QC,and QC in combination with piperine exhibits strong neuroprotective effects against MPTP-induced neurotoxicity. | Shamsher Singh Sumit Jamwal Puneet Kumar | 2017 | Neural Regeneration Research2017,12,7: | 6 |

| 10 | Neuroprotective Effect of Chrysophanol as a PI3K/AKT/mTOR Signaling Inhibitor in an Experimental Model of Autologous Blood-induced Intracerebral Hemorrhage显示文摘Objective Intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH)refers to predominant,sporadic,and non-traumatic bleeding in the brain parenchyma.The PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway is an important signal transduction pathway regulated by enzyme-linked receptors and has many biological functions in mammals.It plays a key role in neuronal metabolism,gene expression regulation,and tissue homeostasis in the healthy and diseased brain.Methods In the present study,the role of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway inhibitor chrysophanol(CPH)(10 mg/kg and 20 mg/kg,orally)in the improvement of ICH-associated neurological defects in rats was investigated.Autologous blood(20µL/5 min/unilateral/intracerebroventricular)mimics ICH-like defects involving cellular and molecular dysfunction and neurotransmitter imbalance.The current study also included various behavioral assessments to examine cognition,memory,and motor and neuromuscular coordination.The protein expression levels of PI3K,AKT,and mTOR as well as myelin basic protein and apoptotic markers,such as Bax,Bcl-2,and caspase-3,were examined using ELISA kits.Furthermore,the levels of various neuroinflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress markers were assessed.Additionally,the neurological severity score,brain water content,gross brain pathology,and hematoma size were used to indicate neurological function and brain edema.Results CPH was found to be neuroprotective by restoring neurobehavioral alterations and significantly reducing the elevated PI3K,AKT,and mTOR protein levels,and modulating the apoptotic markers such as Bax,Bcl-2,and caspase-3 in rat brain homogenate.CPH substantially reduced the inflammatory cytokines like interleukin(IL)-1β,IL-6,and tumor necrosis factor-α.CPH administration restored the neurotransmitters GABA,glutamate,acetylcholine,dopamine,and various oxidative stress markers.Conclusion Our results show that CPH may be a promising therapeutic approach for overcoming neuronal damage caused by the overexpression of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in ICH-induced neurological dysfunctions in rats. | Kuldeep Singh JADAUN Sidharth MEHAN Aarti SHARMA Ehraz Mehmood SIDDIQUI Sumit KUMAR NaifALSUHAYMI | 2022 | Current Medical Science2022,42,2: | 5 |

| 13 | Quantification of organic carbon and primary nutrients in litter and soil in a foothill forest plantation of eastern Himalaya显示文摘The present study was an effort to understand the amount of litter fall and its subsequent decomposition and quantify the release of available nutrients and soil physicochemical characteristics in plantations of four forest tree species(Lagerstroemia parviflora, Tectona grandis, Shorea robusta and Michelia champaca) in the Chilapatta Reserve Forest of the Cooch Behar Wildlife Division in the Terai zone of West Bengal, India. The most litter(5.61 Mg ha^(-1))was produced by T. grandis plantation and the least(4.72 Mg ha^(-1)) by L. parviflora. The material turnover rate to the soil through decomposition from total litter was fastest during the first quarter of the year and subsequently decreased during the next two quarters. The material turnover rate was only 1 year, which indicates that more than90% of the total litter produced decomposed within a year.The available primary nutrient content in litter varied across the four plantations over the year. The plantations generally did not significantly influence the soil physical characteristics but did significantly influence the availability of primary nutrients and organic carbon at two depths(1–15 and16–30 cm) over the year. The availability of soil primary nutrients in the four plantations also increased gradually from the first quarter of the year to the third quarter and then decreased during the last quarter to the same level as in the first quarter of the year at both depths. The availability for soil organic carbon in the plantations followed a similar trend. The amount of litter produced and the material turnover in the soil in the different plantations differed, influencing the nutrient availability and organic carbon at the plantations. The amount of soil organic carbon was highest for T. grandis(2.52 Mg ha^(-1)) and lowest for L. parviflora(2.12 Mg ha^(-1)). | 15 | Intensive care unit complications and outcomes of adult patients with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis: A retrospective study of 16 cases显示文摘AIM To study the management, complications and outcomes of adult patients admitted with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis(HLH) in the intensive care unit(ICU).METHODS We performed a retrospective observational study of adult patients with the diagnosis of 'HLH' admitted to the two academic medical ICUs of Baylor College of Medicine between 01/01/2013 to 06/30/2017. HLH was diagnosed using the HLH-2004 criteria proposed by the Histiocyte Society.RESULTS Sixteen adult cases of HLH were admitted to the medical ICUs over 4 years.Median age of presentation was 49 years and 10(63%) were males. Median Sequential Organ Failure Assessment(SOFA) score at the time of ICU admission was 10. Median ICU length of stay(LOS) was 11.5 d and median hospital LOS was 29 d. Septic shock and acute respiratory failure accounted for majority of diagnoses necessitating ICU admission. Septic shock was the most common ICU complication seen in(88%) patients, followed by acute kidney injury(81%) and acute respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation(75%). Nine patients(56%) developed disseminated intravascular coagulation and eight(50%) had acute liver failure. 10 episodes of clinically significant bleeding were observed.Multi system organ failure was the most common cause of death seen in 12(75%)patients. The 30 d mortality was 37%(6 cases) and 90 d mortality was 81%(13 cases). There was no difference in mortality based on age(above or less than 50 years), SOFA score on ICU admission(more than or less than 10),immunosuppression, time to diagnose HLH or direct ICU admission versus floor transfer.CONCLUSION HLH is a devastating disease associated with poor outcomes in ICU. Present-day design methods and fabrications techniques applicable in the development of freeform optics and the market requirements are focussed and explained with the help of traditional and non-traditional optical applications. Over the years,significant research is performed in the emerging field of freeform optics, but no standards are established yet in terms of tolerances and definitions. We critically review the optical design methods for freeform optics considering the image forming and non-image forming applications. Numerous subtractive manufacturing technologies including figure correction methods and metrology have been developed to fabricate extreme modern freeform optics to satisfy the demands of various applications such as space, astronomy, earth science, defence,biomedical, material processing, surveillance, and many more. | 20 | Adaptive Linear Quadratic Regulator for Continuous-Time Systems With Uncertain Dynamics显示文摘In this paper, adaptive linear quadratic regulator(LQR) is proposed for continuous-time systems with uncertain dynamics. The dynamic state-feedback controller uses inputoutput data along the system trajectory to continuously adapt and converge to the optimal controller. The result differs from previous results in that the adaptive optimal controller is designed without the knowledge of the system dynamics and an initial stabilizing policy. Further, the controller is updated continuously using input-output data, as opposed to the commonly used switched/intermittent updates which can potentially lead to stability issues. An online state derivative estimator facilitates the design of a model-free controller. Gradient-based update laws are developed for online estimation of the optimal gain.
