1Ultrafast laser processing of materials: from science to industry显示文摘Processing of materials by ultrashort laser pulses has evolved significantly over the last decade and is starting to reveal its scientific,technological and industrial potential.In ultrafast laser manufacturing,optical energy of tightly focused femtosecond or picosecond laser pulses can be delivered to precisely defined positions in the bulk of materials via two-/multi-photon excitation on a timescale much faster than thermal energy exchange between photoexcited electrons and lattice ions.Control of photoionization and thermal processes with the highest precision,inducing local photomodification in sub-100-nm-sized regions has been achieved.State-of-the-art ultrashort laser processing techniques exploit high 0.1–1μm spatial resolution and almost unrestricted three-dimensional structuring capability.Adjustable pulse duration,spatiotemporal chirp,phase front tilt and polarization allow control of photomodification via uniquely wide parameter space.Mature opto-electrical/mechanical technologies have enabled laser processing speeds approaching meters-per-second,leading to a fast lab-to-fab transfer.The key aspects and latest achievements are reviewed with an emphasis on the fundamental relation between spatial resolution and total fabrication throughput.Emerging biomedical applications implementing micrometer feature precision over centimeter-scale scaffolds and photonic wire bonding in telecommunications are highlighted.Mangirdas Malinauskas Albertas Žukauskas Satoshi Hasegawa Yoshio Hayasaki Vygantas Mizeikis Ričardas Buividas Saulius Juodkazis 2016Light(Science & Applications)2016,5,1:37
2O-FIB:far-field-induced near-field breakdown for direct nanowriting in an atmospheric environment显示文摘Nanoscale surface texturing,drilling,cutting,and spatial sculpturing,which are essential for applications,including thin-film solar cells,photonic chips,antireflection,wettability,and friction drag reduction,require not only high accuracy in material processing,but also the capability of manufacturing in an atmospheric environment.Widely used focused ion beam(FIB)technology offers nanoscale precision,but is limited by the vacuum-working conditions;therefore,it is not applicable to industrial-scale samples such as ship hulls or biomaterials,e.g.,cells and tissues.Here,we report an optical far-field-induced near-field breakdown(O-FIB)approach as an optical version of the conventional FIB technique,which allows direct nanowriting in air.The writing is initiated from nanoholes created by femtosecondlaser-induced multiphoton absorption,and its cutting“knife edge”is sharpened by the far-field-regulated enhancement of the optical near field.A spatial resolution of less than 20 nm(λ/40,withλbeing the light wavelength)is readily achieved.O-FIB is empowered by the utilization of simple polarization control of the incident light to steer the nanogroove writing along the designed pattern.The universality of near-field enhancement and localization makes O-FIB applicable to various materials,and enables a large-area printing mode that is superior to conventional FIB processing.Zhen-Ze Li Lei Wang Hua Fan Yan-Hao Yu Qi-Dai Chen Saulius Juodkazis Hong-Bo Sun 2020Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1:24
3Plasmonic nano-printing: large-area nanoscale energy deposition for efficient surface texturing显示文摘The lossy nature of plasmonic wave due to absorption is shown to become an advantage for scaling-up a large area surface nanotexturing of transparent dielectrics and semiconductors by a self-organized sub-wavelength energy deposition leading to an ablation pattern—ripples—using this plasmonic nano-printing.Irreversible nanoscale modifications are delivered by surface plasmon polariton(SPP)using:(i)fast scan and(ii)cylindrical focusing of femtosecond laser pulses for a high patterning throughput.The mechanism of ripple formation on ZnS dielectric is experimentally proven to occur via surface wave at the substrate–plasma interface.The line focusing increase the ordering quality of ripples and facilitates fabrication over wafer-sized areas within a practical time span.Nanoprinting using SPP is expected to open new applications in photo-catalysis,tribology,and solar light harvesting via localized energy deposition rather scattering used in photonic and sensing applications based on re-scattering of SPP modes into far-field modes.Lei Wang Qi-Dai Chen Xiao-Wen Cao Ričardas Buividas Xuewen Wang Saulius Juodkazis Hong-Bo Sun 2017Light(Science & Applications)2017,6,1:15
4Narrow line between benefit and harm: Additivity of hyperthermia to cisplatin cytotoxicity in different gastrointestinal cancer cells显示文摘AIM To investigate the response to hyperthermia and chemotherapy, analyzing apoptosis, cytotoxicity, and cisplatin concentration in different digestive system cancer cells.METHODS AGS(gastric cancer cell line), Caco-2(colon cancer cell line) and T3M4(pancreatic cancer cell line) were treated by cisplatin and different temperature setting(37 ℃ to 45 ℃) either in isolation, or in combination. Treatment lasted for one hour. 48 h after the treatment viability was evaluated by MTT, cell apoptosis by Annexin V-PE and 7 ADD flow cytometry. Intracellular cisplatin concentration was measured immediately after the treatment, using mass spectrometry. Isobologram analysis was performed to evaluate the mathematical combined effect of temperature and cisplatin.RESULTS AGS cells were the most sensitive to isolated application of hyperthermia. Hyperthermia, in addition to cisplatin treatment, did not provoke a synergistic effect at intervals from 37 ℃ to 41 ℃ in neither cancer cell line. However, a temperature of 43 ℃ enhanced cisplatin cytotoxicity for Caco-2 cells. Moreover, isobologram analysis revealed mathematical antagonistic effects of cisplatin and temperature combined treatment in AGS cells; variations between synergistic, additive, and antagonistic effects in Caco-2 cells; and additive and antagonistic effects in T3 M4 cells. Combined treatment enhanced initiation of cell apoptosis in AGS, Caco-2, and T3 M4 cells by 61%, 20%, and 19% respectively. 6Levels and activities of von Willebrand factor and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin type-1 motif, number 13 in inflammatory bowel diseases显示文摘AIM To evaluate the levels of von Willebrand factor(VWF) and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin type-1 motif, number 13(ADAMTS13) in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) and correlate them with the disease activity.METHODS Consecutive patients with IBD aged 18 years or older were enrolled in the study. Forty-seven patients with ulcerative colitis(UC), 38 with Crohn's disease(CD), and 50 healthy controls were included. The white blood cell count, haematocrit, platelet count, fibrinogen, partial activated thromboplastin time, C-reactive protein, albumin, VWF antigen level(VWF:Ag), VWF ristocetin cofactor activity(VWF:RCo), VWF collagen-binding activity(VWF:CB), and ADAMTS13 antigen level(ADAMTS13:Ag) and activity(ADAMTS13act) were measured. The following ratios were assessed: V W F : R C o/V W F : A g, V W F : C B/V W F : A g, V W F : A g/ADAMTS13 act, and ADAMTS13act/ADAMTS13:Ag. RESULTS Compared to controls, the odds ratio(OR) of an elevated VWF: Ag > 150% was 8.7(95%CI: 2.7-28.1) in the UC group and 16.2(95%CI: 4.8-54.0) in the CD group. VWF:CB was lower in UC patients, and active CD was associated with a higher VWF: RCo(+38%). The ORs of VWF:CB/VWF:Ag < 0.7(a marker of acquired von Willebrand syndrome) in the UC and CD groups were 11.9(95%CI: 4.4-32.4) and 13.3(95%CI: 4.6-38.1), respectively. Active UC was associated with lower ADAMTS13:Ag(-23%) and ADAMTS13act(-20%) compared to UC in remission. Patients with active CD had a 15% lower ADAMTS13 act than controls. The activity of UC, but not that of CD, was inversely correlated with ADAMTS13:Ag(r =-0.76) and ADAMTS13act(r =-0.81). CONCLUSION Complex VWF-ADAMTS13-mediated mechanisms disturb haemostasis in IBD. 7Review of Fresnel incoherent correlation holography with linear and non-linear correlations显示文摘Fresnel incoherent correlation holography(FINCH)is a well-established incoherent imaging technique.In FINCH,three selfinterference holograms are recorded with calculated phase differences between the two interfering,differently modulated object waves and projected into a complex hologram.The object is reconstructed without the twin image and bias terms by a numerical Fresnel back propagation of the complex hologram.A modified approach to implement FINCH by a single camera shot by pre-calibrating the system involving recording of the point spread function library and reconstruction by a nonlinear cross correlation has been introduced recently.The expression of the imaging characteristics from the modulation functions in original FINCH and the modified approach by pre-calibration in spatial and polarization multiplexing schemes are reviewed.The study reveals that a reconstructing function completely independent of the function of the phase mask is required for the faithful expression of the characteristics of the modulating function in image reconstruction.In the polarization multiplexing method by non-linear cross correlation,a partial expression was observed,while in the spatial multiplexing method by non-linear cross correlation,the imaging characteristics converged towards a uniform behavior.Vijayakumar Anand Tomas Katkus Soon Hock Ng Saulius Juodkazis 2021Chinese Optics Letters2021,19,2:3

11Comparison of intraocular pressure measurements with different contact tonometers in young healthy persons显示文摘AIM:To analyze the correlation of Goldmann applanation tonometer(GAT),I-Care tonometer and Tono-Pen tonometer results in young healthy persons,and to investigate the influence of central corneal thickness(CCT)on intraocular pressure(IOP)measurements recorded with these tonometers.·METHODS:We conducted a pilot clinical study in 78eyes of 78 subjects aged 22-28 years old(44 women and34 men;mean age 23.8±1.19y).IOP was measured using GAT,I-Care and Tono-Pen tonometers,followed by measurements of CCT.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 20.0.·RESULTS:The mean IOPs and standard deviation(±SD)for GAT,I-Care and Tono-Pen were 15.62±2.281 mm Hg,16.29±2.726 mm Hg and 16.32±2.393 mm Hg,respectively.The mean CCT was 555.15±29.648μm.Clear positive correlations between GAT and I-Care,GAT and TonoPen,and I-Care and Tono-Pen tonometers were found(r=0.867,P<0.001;r=0.861,P<0.001;r=0.915,P<0.001,respectively).In comparison between devices,BlandAltman analysis showed a significant mean difference(MD)in the measurements by GAT and I-Care of-0.679 mm Hg and by GAT and Tono-Pen of-0.705 mm Hg(P<0.001),but there was no significant difference between I-Care and Tono-Pe(P>0.05).Both non-gold standard tonometers were affected by CCT;that is,both I-Care and Tono-Pen tonometer values were significantly higher with higher CCT means(>555μm;MD=-1.282,P<0.001;MD=-0.949,P<0.001,respectively)compared with GAT.·CONCLUSION:Both I-Care and Tono-Pen tonometers overestimated IOP compared with the GAT values.Either the I-Care or Tono-Pen tonometer could be used instead of GAT because there was no significant difference between their results.Higher CCT values(>555μm)were associated with overestimated IOP values.saulius galgauskas rasa strupaite ernesta strelkauskaite rimvydas asoklis 2016International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,1:2
12Endothelial parameters in central and peripheral cornea in patients wearing contact lenses显示文摘AIM: To measure the parameters of endothelium in the central and peripheral parts of the cornea and evaluate the influence of wearing the hard and soft contact lenses on the mentioned parameters.METHODS: A specular microscope was used to measure the corneal endothelium parameters in both eyes of 139 Caucasians(a total of 278). All participants were divided into three groups: soft lens wearers, hard lens wearers and a control group. Factors, such as age, smoking, types of lens material, duration of lens wear and lens air permeability were assessed to determine their impact on the morphometric parameters of the endothelium.RESULTS: A lower percentage of hexagon-like cells and higher cell variation than in other groups were determined in hard contact lens wearers. The difference in density of endotheliocytes between the groups was not observed. The measurements of the morphometric parameters in soft contact lens wearers did not depend neither on the duration of lens wear, nor on air permeability.
