2NUMERICAL MODELING OF SUSPENDED SEDIMENT TRANSPORT IN CHANNEL BENDS显示文摘An algorithm to compute three-dimensional sediment transport effect was proposed in this paper to enhance the capability of depth-averaged numerical models. This algorithm took into account of non-uniform distributions of flow velocities and suspended sediment concentrations along water depth, it significantly enhanced the applicability of 2D models in simulating open channel flows, especially in channel bends. Preliminary numerical experiments in a U-shaped and a sine-generated experimental channel indicate that the proposed method performs quite well in predicting the change of bed-deformation in channel bends due to suspended sediment transport. 3THREE-DIMENSIONAL NUMERICAL MODELING OF SECONDARY FLOWS IN A WIDE CURVED CHANNEL显示文摘Most natural rivers are curved channels, where the turbulent flows have a complex helical pattern, as has been extensively studied both numerically and experimentally. The helical flow structure in curved channels has an important bearing on sediment transport, riverbed evolution, and pollutant transport study. In this article, different turbulence closure schemes i.e., the mixing-length model and the k-ε model with different pressure solution techniques i. e., hydrostatic assumptions and dynamic pressure treatments are applied to study the helical secondary flows in an experiment curved channel. The agreements of vertically-averaged velocities between the simulated results obtained by using different turbulence models with different pressure solution techniques and the measured data are satisfactory. 16Graphene-based electrodes and catalysts for electroreduction of CO_(2)to low-carbon alcohols显示文摘The electrochemical reduction of CO_(2)(CO_(2)ER)into the renewable and sustainable green fuels,such as low-carbon alcohols,is one of several workable strategies.CO_(2)ER can be combined with renewable electricity to transform intermittent energy sources(such as wind,hydro,and solar)into a fuel that can be stored until it is ready to be used.The intrinsic characteristics of the employed catalyst have a significant and substantial effect on the efficiency of CO_(2)ER and the ensuing economic viability.The paradigmatic multicarbon alcohol catalysts should increase the concentration of*CO in the reaction environment,stabilize the key intermediate products during the reaction,and facilitate the C-C coupling interaction.Since graphene has a large surface area and exceptional conductivity,it has been used as a support for active phases(nanoparticles or nanosheets).It is possible for graphene to enhance charge transport and accelerate CO_(2)conversion through its electronic and structural coupling effects.At the interface,a synergy can be produced that improves CO_(2)ER by increasing*CO adsorption,intermediate binding,and stability.This article focuses on recent advancements in graphene-based catalysts that promote CO_(2)ER to alcohols.Likewise,this paper also describes and discusses the key role graphene plays in catalyzing CO_(2)ER into alcohols.Finally,we hope to provide future ideas for the design of graphene-based electrocatalysts.Lei Wang Patrick Lira Guangzhi Hu Jianmin Luo Zhao Sun Richard Davis Yudai Huang Sam Toan 2023Materials Reports(Energy)2023,3,2:0

18Two-dimensional numerical and eco-toxicological modeling of chemical spills显示文摘The effects of chemical spills on aquatic nontarget organisms were evaluated in this study.Based on a review of three types of current eco-toxicological models of chemicals,i.e.,ACQUATOX model of the US-EPA,Hudson River Model of PCBs,and critical body residual(CBR)model and dynamic energy budget(DEBtox)model,this paper presents an uncoupled numerical ecotoxicological model.The transport and transformation of spilled chemicals were simulated by a chemical transport model(including flow and sediment transport),and the mortalities of an organism caused by the chemicals were simulated by the extended threshold damage model,separately.Due to extreme scarcity of data,this model was applied to two hypothetical cases of chemical spills happening upstream of a lake.Theoretical analysis and simulated results indicated that this model is capable of reasonably predicting the acute effects of chemical spills on aquatic ecosystems or organism killings.Suiliang HUANG Yafei JIA Sam S.Y.WANG 2009Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2009,3,2:0
