1Value of a comprehensive geriatric assessment for predicting one-year outcomes in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation: results from the CGA-TAVI multicentre registry显示文摘Background In a three-month report from the CGA-TAVI registry, we found the Multidimensional Prognostic Index (MPI) and Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) to be of value for predicting short-term outcomes in elderly patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). In the present analysis, we examined the association of these tools with outcomes up to one year post-TAVI. Methods CGA-TAVI is an international, observational registry of geriatric patients undergoing TAVI. Patients were assessed using the MPI and SPPB. Efficacy of baseline values and any postoperative change for predicting outcome were established using logistic regression. Kaplan- Meier analysis was carried out for each comprehensive geriatric assessment tool, with survival stratified by risk category. Results One year after TAVI, 14.1% of patients deceased, while 17.4% met the combined endpoint of death and/or non-fatal stroke, and 37.7% the combined endpoint of death and/or hospitalisation and/or non-fatal stroke. A high-risk MPI score was associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality (aOR = 36.13, 95% CI: 2.77–470.78, P = 0.006) and death and/or non-fatal stroke (aOR = 10.10, 95% CI: 1.48–68.75, P = 0.018). No significant associations were found between a high-risk SPPB score and mortality or two main combined endpoints. In contrast to a worsening SPPB, an aggravating MPI score at three months post-TAVI was associated with an increased risk of death and/or non-fatal stoke at one year (aOR = 95.16, 95% CI: 3.41–2657.01). 2Mesoporous bioactive glass composition effects on degradation and bioactivity显示文摘Mesoporous bioactive glasses(MBGs)are promising materials for regenerative medicine,due to their favorable properties including bioactivity and degradability.These key properties,but also their surface area,pore structure and pore volume are strongly dependent on synthesis parameters and glass stoichiometry.However,to date no systematic study on MBG properties covering a broad range of possible compositions exists.Here,24 MBG compositions in the SiO_(2)-CaO-P_(2)O_(5) system were synthesized by varying SiO_(2)(60-90 mol%),CaO and P_(2)O_(5) content(both 0 to 40 mol-%),while other synthesis parameters were kept constant.Mesopore characteristics,degradability and bioactivity were analysed.The results showed that,within the tested range of compositions,mesopore formation required a molar SiO_(2) content above 60%but was independent of CaO and P_(2)O_(5) content.While mesopore size did not depend on glass stoichiometry,mesopore arrangement was influenced by the SiO_(2) content.Specific surface area and pore volume were slightly altered by the SiO_(2) content.All materials were degradable;however,degradation as well as bioactivity,i.e.the ability to form a CaP mineral on the surface,depended on stoichiometry.Major differences were found in early surface reactions in simulated body fluid:where some MBGs induced direct hydroxyapatite crystallization,high release of calcium in others resulted in calcite formation.In summary,degradation and bioactivity,both key parameters of MBGs,can be controlled by glass stoichiometry over a broad range while leaving the unique structural parameters of MBGs relatively unaffected.This allows targeted selection of material compositions for specific regenerative medicine applications.M.Schumacher P.Habibovic S.van Rijt 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,7:2

8Ecological impact of land reclamation on Jiangsu coast(China):A novel ecotope assessment for Tongzhou Bay显示文摘China’s continuous and rapid economic growth has led to the reclamation of large sections of the intertidal mud coast in combination with port construction,such as that of the proposed Tongzhou Bay port on the Jiangsu coast.These reclamations threaten the local ecosystem services.An ecotope distribution map was created and a hydrodynamic numerical model of Tongzhou Bay was set up to quantify the impacts of reclamation on the ecosystem.Based on the field data and model results,several abiotic features were classified into 11 ecotopes and visualized in an ecotope map of the Tongzhou Bay ecosystem.Validation with spatial distributions of two threatened shorebird species(bar-tailed godwit and great knot) showed confirmation with the mid-range and low-range littoral zones(inundated from 40% to 100% of a tidal cycle),indicating the importance of the areas with these conditions to these populations.Overlaying the ecotope map with recent and proposed land reclamation schemes revealed a loss of ecotopes,composed of the high-range(42%),mid-range(48%),and low-range(38%) littoral habitats,corresponding to a 44%-45% loss of the most important ecotopes for bar-tailed godwit and great knot(mid-range and low-range littoral zones).These results confirm the applicability of the novel ecotope assessment approach in practice.Jos R.M.Muller Yong-ping Chen Stefan G.J.Aarninkhof Ying-Chi Chan Theunis Piersma Dirk S.van Maren Jian-feng Tao Zheng Bing Wang Zheng Gong 2020Water Science and Engineering2020,13,1:1

13Numerical simulation of precipitation kinetics in multicomponent alloys显示文摘A universal numerical model based on the particle size distribution(PSD)approach has been developed for the simulation of precipitation kinetics in multicomponent alloys during isothermal ageing.Nucleation was implemented utilizing the classical nucleation theory(CNT).Growth and coarsening were modeled by a single growth kinetics equation,which is constructed based on the interfacial diffusion flux balance and the capillarity effect.Only partial off-diagonal terms in the diffusion matrix(diffusion of individual components in the matrix)were taken into account in the calculations to minimize the computational cost while coupling with CALPHAD to extract thermodynamics equilibrium around the interface.A new feature of the model is the incorporation of a more realistic spatial site distribution via a Voronoi construction in the characteristic cell,for the purpose of modifying the diffusion distance.Computational predictions of the precipitate dimensions and the precipitation kinetics were compared with the atom probe tomography(APT)measurements on ternary Ni-Al-Cr alloys isothermally aged at 873 K.It is found that the temporal evolution of the dimensions and composition of the precipitates is well captured,as is the dependence on changes in the alloy composition.The new modification with Voronoi construction demonstrates that the overall precipitation kinetics depends on the density and the spatial site distribution of precipitates.The ability to handle sophisticated alloy chemistries by quantitative equations,the compositional sensitivity of microstructural characteristics emerging from the simulation results,and the ability to visualize the spatial distribution of precipitates make the work very promising for multicomponent alloy design and optimization.K.Xu J.D.Liu S.van der Zwaag W.Xu J.G.Li 2022Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,33:1
