| 1 | Advances in eucalypt research in China显示文摘Eucalypt plantations in China currently exceed4.5 Mhm^2, and this country has the third largest area of such plantations after India and Brazil. China's eucalypt industry now comprises a complex, multifaceted industry including seedling propagation, fertilizer production and supply, plantation silviculture, harvesting and transport,wood processing for products including lumber, pulp and paper, and wood-based panels, as well as bioenergy production and various forest byproducts and non-wood forest products. In 2015, the combined value of output of this whole industry was around 300 billion CNY. Chinese research and development(R&D) has been instrumental in supporting growth and development across the whole breadth of the country's eucalypt industry. In this report,recent advances in this R&D are reviewed under six key topics:(1) advanced propagation technology;(2) genetic resources and breeding;(3) targeted silviculture;(4) eucalypt disease and pest management;(5) enhancing plantation ecology and sustainability; and(6) wood processing and byproduct technology. R&D has greatly facilitated expansion and proliferation of all parts of China's eucalypt industry. The USCACA executive committee reported activities and programs and highlighted the partnership and collaboration between USCACA and other major organizations. | 5 | Synergistic effect of cobalt and niobium in Co_(3)-Nb-O_(x)on performance of selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH_(3)显示文摘Combining the redox properties of Co and the acid properties of Nb in a Co_(3)-Nb-O_(x)catalyst is shown to provide superior performance in the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH_(3)(NH_(3)-SCR).Co_(3)O_(4)shows average activity,however,it exhibits a poor N_(2)selectivity.Nb_(2)O_(5)is not active for NH_(3)-SCR.However,the mixed Co_(3)-Nb-O_(x) catalyst shows higher NO conversion and N_(2)selectivity than the single Co_(3)O_(4)and Nb_(2)O_(5)catalysts at 100–300℃.The results of temperature programmed reduction by H_(2)and X-ray photoelectron(XP)spectra indicate that the addition of Nb changes the chemical states of Co and decreases the concentration of Co^(3+) and Oa,adjusting the activity for catalytic oxidation to a moderate level.This suppresses the formation of undesired N_(2)O from the over-oxidation of NH_(3).Incorporation of Co and Nb into one solid synergistically couples their redox behavior and surface acidity,ensuring the high catalytic activity and N2 selectivity in NH3-SCR. | Bo-Lin Zhang Li-Feng Deng Bo Liu Chun-Yun Luo Michael Liebau Shen-Gen Zhang Roger Glaser | 2022 | Rare Metals2022,41,1: | 2 |
| 6 | Soil seed banks along elevational gradients in tropical, subtropical and subalpine forests in Yunnan Province, southwest China显示文摘Soil seed banks are a vital part of ecosystems and influence community dynamics and regeneration.Although soil seed banks in different habitats have been reported, how soil seed banks vary with elevational gradients in different climatic zones is still unknown. This paper investigates seed density,species composition and nonconstituent species of forest soil seed banks in Yunnan Province, southwest China. Similarity between the soil seed bank and standing vegetation was also examined. We collected soil samples from sites spanning 12 elevations in tropical rain forests, subtropical evergreen broadleaved forests and subalpine coniferous forests, and transported them to a glasshouse for germination trials for species identification. The soil seed banks of tropical and subtropical forests had much higher seed densities and species richness than those of subalpine forests. | 15 | Transmissibility of tuberculosis among students and non-students:an occupational-specific mathematical modelling显示文摘Background: Recently, despite the steady decline in the tuberculosis (TB) epidemic globally, school TB outbreaks have been frequently reported in China. This study aimed to quantify the transmissibility ofMycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) among students and non-students using a mathematical model to determine characteristics of TB transmission.Methods: We constructed a dataset of reported TB cases from four regions (Jilin Province, Xiamen City, Chuxiong Prefecture, and Wuhan City) in China from 2005 to 2019. We classified the population and the reported cases under student and non-student groups, and developed two mathematical models [nonseasonal model (Model A) and seasonal model (Model B)] based on the natural history and transmission features of TB. The effective reproduction number (R(eff)) of TB between groups were calculated using the collected data.Results: During the study period, data on 456,423 TB cases were collected from four regions: students accounted for 6.1% of cases. The goodness-of-fit analysis showed that Model A had a better fitting effect (P < 0.001). The average R_(eff) of TB estimated from Model A was 1.68 [interquartile range (IQR): 1.20–1.96] in Chuxiong Prefecture, 1.67 (IQR: 1.40–1.93) in Xiamen City, 1.75 (IQR: 1.37–2.02) in Jilin Province, and 1.79 (IQR: 1.56–2.02) in Wuhan City. The average R_(eff) of TB in the non-student population was 23.30 times (1.65/0.07) higher than that in the student population.Conclusions: The transmissibility of MTB remains high in the non-student population of the areas studied, which is still dominant in the spread of TB. TB transmissibility from the non-student-to-student-population had a strong influence on students. | 17 | Promotion effect of niobium on ceria catalyst for selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3显示文摘The CeO_(2),Ce-Nb-O_(x) and Nb_(2)O_(5) catalysts were synthesized by citric acid method and the promotion effect of Nb on ceria for selective catalytic reduction(SCR)of NO with NH_(3) was investigated.The catalytic activity measurements indicate that the mixed oxide Ce-Nb-O_(x) presents a higher SCR activity than the single oxide CeO_(2) or Nb_(2)O_(5) catalyst.In addition,the Ce-Nb-O_(x) catalyst shows high resistance towards H_(2)O and SO_(2) at 280℃.The Raman,X-ray photoelectron spectra and temperature programmed reduction with H_(2) results indicate that the incorporation of Nb provides abundant oxygen vacancies for capturing more surface adsorbed oxygen,which provides a superior redox capability and accelerates the renewal of active sites.Furthermore,the Fourier transform infrared spectra and temperature programmed desorption of NH_(3) results suggest that niobium pentoxide shows high surface acidity,which is partly retained in the Ce-Nb-O_(x) catalyst possessing a high content of Lewis and Br?nsted acid sites.Therefore,the incorporation of Nb improves both the redox and acidic capacities of Ce-Nb-O_(x) catalyst for the SCR reaction.Here,the redox behavior is primarily taken on Ce and the acidity is well improved by Nb,so the synergistic effect should exist between Ce and Nb.In terms of the reaction mechanism,in situ DRIFT experiments suggest that both NH_(3) on Lewis acid sites and NH_(4)^(+) on Bronsted acid sites can react with NO species,and adsorbed NO and NO_(2) species can both be reduced by NH_(3).In the SCR process,O_(2) primarily acts as the accelerant to improve the redox and acid cycles and plays an important role.This work proves that the combination of redox and acidic properties of different constituents can be feasible for catalyst design to obtain a superior SCR performance. | Bolin Zhang Lifeng Deng Michael Liebau Yingjie Ren Chunyun Luo Bo Liu Shengen Zhang Roger Glaser | 2022 | Journal of Rare Earths2022,40,10: | 0 |

| 20 | The optimal vaccination strategy to control COVID-19:a modeling study in Wuhan City,China显示文摘Background: Reaching optimal vaccination rates is an essential public health strategy to control the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This study aimed to simulate the optimal vaccination strategy to control the disease by developing an age-specific model based on the current transmission patterns of COVID-19 in Wuhan City, China.Methods: We collected two indicators of COVID-19, including illness onset data and age of confirmed case in Wuhan City, from December 2, 2019, to March 16, 2020. The reported cases were divided into four age groups: group 1, ≤ 14 years old;group 2, 15 to 44 years old;group 3, 44 to 64 years old;and group 4, ≥ 65 years old. An age-specific susceptible-exposed-symptomatic-asymptomatic-recovered/removed model was developed to estimate the transmissibility and simulate the optimal vaccination strategy. The effective reproduction number (R_(eff)) was used to estimate the transmission interaction in different age groups.Results: A total of 47 722 new cases were reported in Wuhan City from December 2, 2019, to March 16, 2020. Before the travel ban of Wuhan City, the highest transmissibility was observed among age group 2 (R_(eff) = 4.28), followed by group 2 to 3 (R_(eff) = 2.61), and group 2 to 4 (R_(eff) = 1.69). China should vaccinate at least 85% of the total population to interrupt transmission. The priority for controlling transmission should be to vaccinate 5% to 8% of individuals in age group 2 per day (ultimately vaccinated 90% of age group 2), followed by 10% of age group 3 per day (ultimately vaccinated 90% age group 3). However, the optimal vaccination strategy for reducing the disease severity identified individuals ≥ 65 years old as a priority group, followed by those 45-64 years old.Conclusions: Approximately 85% of the total population (nearly 1.2 billion people) should be vaccinated to build an immune barrier in China to safely consider removing border restrictions.
