Cold-chain food contamination as the possible origin of COVID-19 resurgence in Beijing显示文摘COVID-19,caused by SARS-CoV-2[1,2],has been contained in China through stringent non-pharmaceutical interventions.Border control and quarantine have effectively prevented the virus from being spread by infected travellers, but the risk of resurgence caused by other routes of introduction and transmission remains unclear, and current strategies to prevent resurgence could be flawed.Since July,SARS-CoV-2 RNA contaminations in frozen food imported from countries with ongoing epidemics have been reported in nine provinces in China[3,4].However,there is no robust evidence of COVID-19 outbreaks initiated by environmentto-human transmission. Here we add to evidence of such transmission by investigating the recent COVID-19 resurgence in Beijing. | Xinghuo Pang Lili Ren Shuangsheng Wu Wentai Ma Jian Yang Lin Di Jie Li Yan Xiao Lu Kang Shichang Du Jing Du Jing Wang Gang Li Shuguang Zhai Lijuan Chen Wenxiong Zhou Shengjie Lai Lei Gao Yang Pan Quanyi Wang Mingkun Li Jianbin Wang Yanyi Huang Jianwei Wang COVID-19 Field Response Group COVID-19 Laboratory Testing Group | 2020 | National Science Review2020,7,12: | 51
Isolated Cases of Plague--Inner Mongolia-Beijing, 2019显示文摘What is already known about this topic?Plague is an acute infectious disease caused by Yersinia pestis(Y.pestis)and is primarily transmitted by rodents.Human can be infected by bites of bacterium-bearing fleas or direct contact with diseased or dead plagueinfected animals. In 2004,the last human plague case was reported in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region due to skinning a dead hare. What is added by this report? This is the first case of pneumonic plague imported into a major city since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Two primary pneumonic plague cases(Patients A and B)found in residents of Inner Mongolia were confirmed in Beijing on November 12,2019.Another case(Patient C)of Y.pestis was identified as bubonic plague on November 14.Patient A most likely became infected from aerosol exposure to infective droplets while digging on his farm, located in an Meriones unguiculatus(M.unguiculatus)natural plague focus.Patient B became infected from contact with Patient A(her husband).Patient C became infected after skinning a dead hare. There was no epidemiological relationship between the Patient A/B and Patient C.What are the implications for public health practice? When epizootic plague is detected, local health-care providers and the public should be alerted about any possible risks.Public education efforts should focus on promoting personal protection measures. | Yumeng Wang Lei Zhou Mengguang Fan Quanyi Wang Jianyun Li Qun Li Zijian Feng George FGao Cheng Xu Lijuan Chen Wei Li Yanping Zhang | 2019 | China CDC weekly2019,1,1: | 13
An epidemiological analysis of the Beijing 2008 Hand-Foot-Mouth epidemic显示文摘This paper presents an empirical analysis of the epidemiological data concerning the 18445 HFMD-infected cases in Beijing in 2008.The main findings are as follows.(i) Seasonal variations in incidence were observed, with a peak observed during the summer season, especially in May.Male patients outnumber female patients by 1.57:1.(ii) Most cases occurred in children 4 years old or younger.Outperforming Weibull distribution and Gamma distribution as to model fitness when analyzing patient ages,log-normal distribution indicates that the estimated mean age is 3.4 years.(iii) The age distribution seems to indicate cyclic peaks with roughly one-year intervals.(iv) Correlation analyses (ρ=0.9864) show that time of birth in different months has an impact on the chance of being infected by HFMD.Birth month seems to present a high risk factor on infants and young children.(v) The morbidity rate is 132.7/100000 during the HFMD epidemic in Beijing in 2008.The morbidity map shows that the risks of HFMD infection in areas close to the city center and suburbans are much lower than those in the urban-rural transition zones.Spatial risks inferred from the morbidity map demonstrate a clear circular pattern.(vi) The prevention and control measures taken by the public health departments seem to be effective during the summer season, resulting in the early ending of the epidemic (one month earlier than the natural season) and reduced outbreak size. | CAO ZhiDong ZENG DaJun WANG QuanYi ZHENG XiaoLong WANG FeiYue | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,12: | 12
Enhancement of acellular cartilage matrix scaffold by Wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes to promote osteochondral regeneration显示文摘Articular cartilage defect repair is a problem that has long plagued clinicians.Although mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)have the potential to regenerate articular cartilage, they also have many limitations.Recent studies have found that MSC-derived exosomes(MSC-Exos)play an important role in tissue regeneration. The purpose of this study was to verify whether MSC-Exos can enhance the reparative effect of the acellular cartilage extracellular matrix(ACECM)scaffold and to explore the underlying mechanism. The results of in vitro experiments show that human umbilical cord Wharton’s jelly MSC-Exos(hWJMSC-Exos)can promote the migration and proliferation of bone marrow-derived MSCs(BMSCs)and the proliferation of chondrocytes. We also found that hWJMSC-Exos can promote the polarization of macrophages toward the M2 phenotype. The results of a rabbit knee osteochondral defect repair model confirmed that hWJMSC-Exos can enhance the effect of the ACECM scaffold and promote osteochondral regeneration. We demonstrated that hWJMSC-Exos can regulate the microenvironment of the articular cavity using a rat knee joint osteochondral defect model. This effect was mainly manifested in promoting the polarization of macrophages toward the M2 phenotype and inhibiting the inflammatory response, which may be a promoting factor for osteochondral regeneration. In addition, microRNA(miRNA)sequencing confirmed that hWJMSC-Exos contain many miRNAs that can promote the regeneration of hyaline cartilage. We further clarified the role of hWJMSC-Exos in osteochondral regeneration through target gene prediction and pathway enrichment analysis. In summary, this study confirms that hWJMSC-Exos can enhance the effect of the ACECM scaffold and promote osteochondral regeneration. | Shuangpeng Jiang Guangzhao Tian Zhen Yang Xiang Gao Fuxin Wang Juntan Li Zhuang Tian Bo Huang Fu Wei Xinyu Sang Liuqi Shao Jian Zhou Zhenyong Wang Shuyun Liu Xiang Sui Quanyi Guo Weimin Guo Xu Li | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,9: | 11
Advances and prospects in biomimetic multilayered scaffolds for articular cartilage regeneration显示文摘Due to the sophisticated hierarchical structure and limited reparability of articular cartilage(AC),the ideal regeneration of AC defects has been a major challenge in the field of regenerative medicine. As defects progress, they often extend from the cartilage layer to the subchondral bone and ultimately lead to osteoarthritis.Tissue engineering techniques bring new hope for AC regeneration. To meet the regenerative requirements of the heterogeneous and layered structure of native AC tissue,a substantial number of multilayered biomimetic scaffolds have been studied.Ideal multilayered scaffolds should generate zone-specific functional tissue similar to native AC tissue. This review focuses on the current status of multilayered scaffolds developed for AC defect repair, including design strategies based on the degree of defect severity and the zone-specific characteristics of AC tissue, the selection and composition of biomaterials, and techniques for design and manufacturing. The challenges and future perspectives of biomimetic multilayered scaffold strategies for AC regeneration are also discussed. | Liwei Fu Zhen Yang Cangjian Gao Hao Li Zhiguo Yuan Fuxin Wang Xiang Sui Shuyun Liu Quanyi Guo | 2020 | Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,6: | 7

Effects of irrigation water salinity on soil salt content distribution, soil physical properties and water use efficiency of maize for seed production in arid Northwest China显示文摘In order to explore the use of groundwater resources, field experiments were conducted for three consecutive years during 2012-2014 in the Shiyang River basin of Northwest China.Irrigation was conducted using four different water salinity levels that were arranged in a split plot design. These four water salinity levels were s0,s3,s6 and s9(0.71,3,6 and 9 g/L,respectively).The soil salt content, soil bulk density, soil porosity, saturated hydraulic conductivity, plant height, leaf area index and yield of maize for seed production were measured for studying the effects of saline water irrigation on soil salt content distribution, soil physical properties and water use efficiency. It was observed that higher salinity level of irrigation water and long duration of saline water irrigation resulted in more salt accumulation.Compared to initial values, the soil salt accumulation in 0-100 cm soil layer after three years of experiments for s0,s3,s6 and s9 was 0.189 mg/cm3,0.654 mg/cm3,0.717 mg/cm3 and 1.135 mg/cm3,respectively.Both greater salt levels in the irrigation water and frequent saline water irrigation led to greater soil bulk density, but poorer soil porosity and less saturated hydraulic conductivity. The saturated hydraulic conductivity decreased with increase in soil bulk density, but increased with improvement in soil porosity. It was noted that the maize height, leaf area index and maize yield gradually decreased with increase in water salinity. The maize yield decreased over 25%and the water use efficiency also gradually declined when irrigated with water containing 6 g/L and 9 g/L salinity levels. However, maize yield following saline water irrigation with 3 g/L decreased less than 20%and the decline in water use efficiency was not significant during the three-year experiment period. The results demonstrate that irrigation with saline water at the level of 6 g/L and 9 g/L in the study area is not suitable, while saline water irrigation with 3 g/L would be acceptable for a short duration together with salt leaching through spring irrigation before sowing. | Chengfu Yuan Shaoyuan Feng Juan Wang Zailin Huo Quanyi Ji | 2018 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,3: | 6
Nanoparticle–Cartilage Interaction: Pathology-Based Intra-articular Drug Delivery for Osteoarthritis Therapy显示文摘Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent chronic and debilitating joint disease, resulting in huge medical and socioeconomic burdens.Intra-articular administration of agents is clinically used for pain management. However, the effectiveness is inapparent caused by the rapid clearance of agents. To overcome this issue, nanoparticles as delivery systems hold considerable promise for local control of the pharmacokinetics of therapeutic agents.Given the therapeutic programs are inseparable from pathological progress of osteoarthritis,an ideal delivery system should allow the release of therapeutic agents upon specific features of disorders. In this review,we firstly introduce the pathological features of osteoarthritis and the design concept for accurate localization within cartilage for sustained drug release. Then,we review the interactions of nanoparticles with cartilage microenvironment and the rational design.Furthermore,we highlight advances in the therapeutic schemes according to the pathology signals. Finally, armed with an updated understanding of the pathological mechanisms,we place an emphasis on the development of“smart”bioresponsive and multiple modality nanoparticles on the near horizon to interact with the pathological signals. We anticipate that the exploration of nanoparticles by balancing the efficacy, safety, and complexity will lay down a solid foundation tangible for clinical translation. | Xu Li Bingyang Dai Jiaxin Guo Lizhen Zheng Quanyi Guo Jiang Peng Jiankun Xu Ling Qin | 2021 | Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,10: | 5
Spatio-temporal evolution of Beijing 2003 SARS epidemic显示文摘Studying spatio-temporal evolution of epidemics can uncover important aspects of interaction among people, infectious diseases, and the environment, providing useful insights and modeling support to facilitate public health response and possibly prevention measures. This paper presents an empirical spatio-temporal analysis of epidemiological data concerning 2321 SARS-infected patients in Beijing in 2003. We mapped the SARS morbidity data with the spatial data resolution at the level of street and township. Two smoothing methods, Bayesian adjustment and spatial smoothing, were applied to identify the spatial risks and spatial transmission trends. Furthermore, we explored various spatial patterns and spatio-temporal evolution of Beijing 2003 SARS epidemic using spatial statistics such as Moran’s I and LISA. Part of this study is targeted at evaluating the effectiveness of public health control measures implemented during the SARS epidemic. The main findings are as follows. (1) The diffusion speed of SARS in the northwest-southeast direction is weaker than that in northeast-southwest direction. (2) SARS’s spread risk is positively spatially associated and the strength of this spatial association has experienced changes from weak to strong and then back to weak during the lifetime of the Beijing SARS epidemic. (3) Two spatial clusters of disease cases are identified: one in the city center and the other in the eastern suburban area. These two clusters followed different evolutionary paths but interacted with each other as well. (4) Although the government missed the opportunity to contain the early outbreak of SARS in March 2003, the response strategies implemented after the mid of April were effective. These response measures not only controlled the growth of the disease cases, but also mitigated the spatial diffusion. | CAO ZhiDong ZENG DaJun ZHENG XiaoLong WANG QuanYi WANG FeiYue WANG JinFeng WANG XiaoLi | 2010 | Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,7: | 5
Bubble Strategy—A Practical Solution to Return to Regular Life in the Intertwined Era of Vaccine Rollouts and Virus Mutation显示文摘For a long time, vaccination and herd immunity were considered to be the magic solution for controlling coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).However,the emergence of new variants altered people’s expectations and prolonged the pandemic duration, especially the Omicron strain with substantially increased transmissibility and decreased vaccine efficacy. Therefore,we are in urgent need of a practical solution to resume regular life to some extent, while mitigating COVID-19 risks in the tight race between vaccine rollouts and virus variation. This commentary proposed that bubble strategy(or closed loop management),utilized in Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and to be implemented in Beijing 2022 Winter Games, could serve as a novel technique of nonpharmaceutical interventions in coping with such a situation. | Ying Shen Da Huo Tong Yu Quanyi Wang | 2022 | China CDC weekly2022,4,4: | 4

Genomic characterization of SARS-CoV-2 identified in a reemerging COVID-19 outbreak in Beijing's Xinfadi market in 2020显示文摘After 56 days without coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)cases,reemergent cases were reported in Beijing,China on June 11,2020.Here,we report the genetic characteristics of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)sequenced from the clinical specimens of 4 human cases and 2 environmental samples. The nucleotide similarity among six SARS-CoV-2 genomes ranged from 99.98%to 99.99%.Compared with the reference strain of SARS-CoV-2(GenBank No.NC_045512),all six genome sequences shared the same substitutions at nt241(C→T),nt3037(C→T),nt14408(C→T),nt23403(A→G),nt28881(G→A),nt28882(G→A),and nt28883(G→C),which are the characteristic nucleotide substitutions of L-lineage European branch I.This was also proved by themaximum likelihood phylogenetic tree based on the full-length genome of SARS-CoV-2.They also have a unique shared nucleotide substitution,nt6026(C→T),which is the characteristic nucleotide substitution of SARS-CoV-2 in Beijing's Xinfadi outbreak. It is noteworthy that there is an amino acid D614Gmutation caused by nt23403 substitution in all six genomes, which may enhance the virus's infectivity in humans and help it become the leading strain of the virus to spread around the world today. It is necessary to continuously monitor the genetic variation of SARS-CoV-2,focusing on the influence of key mutation sites of SARS-CoV-2 on viral transmission, clinical manifestations, severity, and course of disease. | Yong Zhang Yang Pan Xiang Zhao Weifeng Shi Zhixiao Chen Sheng Zhang Peipei Liu Jinbo Xiao Wenjie Tan Dayan Wang William J.Liu Wenbo Xu Quanyi Wang Guizhen Wu | 2020 | Biosafety and Health2020,2,4: | 3

The compactness of spatial structure in Chinese cities:measurement, clustering patterns and influencing factors显示文摘Rapid urbanization in China has led to an excessive urban expansion of built-up areas, which makes quantitative research on compact city important. We adopted density and the degree of mixed land use to measure the compactness of 160 Chinese cities.Spatial autocorrelation analysis was performed to identify spatial clustering patterns, and the relationships between compactness and five variables were explored through regression models. The result shows that in nearly half of the cases, the calculated values of two indices are less than the average. The high or low values of density and the degree of mixed land use tend to be spatially clustered. The hot spot regions of density and the degree of mixed land use lie mainly in the south of China, while the north present as cold spots or the insignificant regions.Urban compactness can be affected by multifaceted factors and the relationships between compactness and five variables are not consistent throughout the areas of analysis. The GWR model can identify this phenomenon and provides a better fit than the OLS model. This study proposed a new approach to measure the compactness, and the results of GWR analysis can conducive to appropriate policy-making based on different local conditions. | Fangqi Zhao Lina Tang Quanyi Qiu Gang Wu | 2020 | Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2020,6,1: | 3

3D bioprinting of a biomimetic meniscal scaffold for application in tissue engineering显示文摘Appropriate biomimetic scaffolds created via 3D bioprinting are promising methods for treating damaged menisci. However, given the unique anatomical structure and complex stress environment of the meniscus, many studies have adopted various techniques to take full advantage of different materials, such as the printing combined with infusion,or electrospining,to chase the biomimetic meniscus, which makes the process complicated to some extent. Some researchers have tried to tackle the challenges only by 3D biopringting, while its alternative materials and models have been constrained. In this study, based on a multilayer biomimetic strategy,we optimized the preparation of meniscus-derived bioink, gelatin methacrylate(GelMA)/meniscal extracellular matrix(MECM),to take printability and cytocompatibility into account together.Subsequently,a customized 3D bioprinting system featuring a dual nozzle+multitemperature printing was used to integrate the advantages of polycaprolactone(PCL)and meniscal fibrocartilage chondrocytes(MFCs)-laden GelMA/MECM bioink to complete the biomimetic meniscal scaffold, which had the best biomimetic features in terms of morphology and components.Furthermore, cell viability, mechanics, biodegradation and tissue formation in vivo were performed to ensure that the scaffold had sufficient feasibility and functionality, thereby providing a reliable basis for its application in tissue engineering. | Zhou Jian Tian Zhuang Tian Qinyu Peng Liqing Li Kun Luo Xujiang Wang Diaodiao Yang Zhen Jiang Shuangpeng Sui Xiang Huang Jingxiang Liu Shuyun Hao Libo Tang Peifu Yao Qi Guo Quanyi | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,6: | 3

Acellular nerve allograft promotes selective regeneration显示文摘Acellular nerve allograft preserves the basilar membrane tube and extracellular matrix, which pro-motes selective regeneration of neural defects via bridging. In the present study, a Sprague Dawley rat sciatic nerve was utilized to prepare acellular nerve allografts through the use of the chemical extraction method. Subsequently, the allograft was transplanted into a 10-mm sciatic nerve defect in Wistar rats, while autologous nerve grafts from Wistar rats served as controls. Compared with autologous nerve grafts, the acellular nerve allografts induced a greater number of degenerated nerve fibers from sural nerves, as well as a reduced misconnect rate in motor fibers, fewer acetyl-choline esterase-positive sural nerves, and a greater number of carbonic anhydrase-positive sen-sory nerve fibers. Results demonstrated that the acellular nerve allograft exhibited significant neural selective regeneration in the process of bridging nerve defects. | Haili Xin Guanjun Wang Xinrong He Jiang Peng Quanyi Guo Wenjing Xu | 2011 | Neural Regeneration Research2011,6,4: | 3
