| 1 | Decreased osteogenesis of adult mesenchymal stem cel s by reactive oxygen species under cyclic stretch: a possible mechanism of age related osteoporosis显示文摘Age related defect of the osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) plays a key role in osteoporosis. Mechanical loading is one of the most important physical stimuli for osteoblast differentiation.Here, we compared the osteogenic potential of MSCs from young and adult rats under three rounds of 2 h of cyclic stretch of 2.5% elongation at 1 Hz on 3 consecutive days. Cyclic stretch induced a significant osteogenic differentiation of MSCs from young rats, while a compromised osteogenesis in MSCs from the adult rats.Accordingly, there were much more reactive oxygen species(ROS) production in adult MSCs under cyclic stretch compared to young MSCs. Moreover, ROS scavenger N-acetylcysteine rescued the osteogenic differentiation of adult MSCs under cyclic stretch. Gene expression analysis revealed that superoxide dismutase 1(SOD1) was significantly downregulated in those MSCs from adult rats. | 2 | Seasonal variation of nitrogen-concentration in the surface water and its relationship with land use in a catchment of northern China显示文摘Surface waters can be contaminated by human activities in two ways: (1) by point sources, such as sewage treatment discharge and storm-water runoff; and (2) by non-point sources, such as runoff from urban and agricultural areas. With point-source pollution effectively controlled, non-point source pollution has become the most important environmental concern in the world. The formation of non-point source pollution is related to both the sources such as soil nutrient, the amount of fertilizer and pesticide applied, the amount of refuse, and the spatial complex combination of land uses within a heterogeneous landscape. Land-use change, dominated by human activities, has a significant impact on water resources and quality. In this study, fifteen surface water monitoring points in the Yuqiao Reservoir Basin, Zunhua, Hebei Province, northern China, were chosen to study the seasonal variation of nitrogen concentration in the surface water. Water samples were collected in low-flow period(June), high-flow period(July) and mean-flow period(October) from 1999 to 2000. The results indicated that the seasonal variation of nitrogen concentration in the surface water among the fifteen monitoring points in the rainfall-rich year is more complex than that in the rainfall-deficit year. | 3 | A deep stratospheric intrusion associated with an intense cut-off low event over East Asia显示文摘European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts Re-Analysis Interim(ERA-Interim)reanalysis data and satellite data,and trajectory model were applied to analyze the dynamical,thermo-dynamical,and chemical structure in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere(UTLS)of an intense cut-off low(COL)event occurring over East Asia during June 19-23,2010,and to characterize the process and transport pathway of deep stratospheric intrusion.The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder(AIRS)ozone data and the Global Positioning System Ozone(GPSO3)sonde data showed that the air mass originating from the polar formed a region with relatively high values of potential vorticity(PV)and ozone in the center of COL,and a secondary ozone peak appeared in the upper troposphere during mature stage of the COL.Forward trajectory simulation suggested that during the first stage of COL,deep stratospheric intrusion associated with strong northerly wind jet on the west side of the upper-level trough transported ozone-rich air from the polar lower stratosphere into the middle and lower troposphere in the mid-latitude,and increased the ozone concentration there.During the mature stage of the COL,stratospheric air was transported counterclockwise into the troposphere.Backward trajectory model was used to find the source regions of air mass within the COL during its mature stage.Model results show that air masses with high ozone concentration in the center of the COL have two source regions:one is the subpolar vortex which lies in northern part of Center Siberia,where ozone-rich air plays a major role in increasing the ozone concentrations,and the other is the strong shear region which is near by the cyclonic side of the extratropical jet axis(west of 90°E,near 50°N).The air masses with low ozone concentration around the COL also have two source regions:one is the anticyclonic side of the extratropical jet axis,where the air mass with the relatively low ozone concentration at the bottom of the COL is mainly controlled by horizontal movement,and the other is the warm area of the south side of COL,where the air mass on the east and west side of the COL is mainly dominated by upward motion. | LI Dan BIAN JianChun FAN QiuJun | 2015 | Science China Earth Sciences2015,58,1: | 10 |
| 4 | Bamboo Leaf and Pollen Fossils from the Late Miocene of Eastern Zhejiang,China and their Phytogeological Significance显示文摘Fossil bamboo leaves and pollen from Upper Miocene deposits of the Shengxian Formation in Tiantai and Ninghai counties,eastern Zhejiang,China represent a rare record in Asia.The distinctive pseudopetiole and parallel venation of the leaf blades and the clearly thickened annulus of the pollen aperture place them in the subfamily Bambusoideae.Morphological analysis supports the determination of these fossil leaves as belonging to the genus Bambusium and two new species are described.Bambusium latipseudopetiolus Q.J.Wang et B.N.Sun sp.nov.has a distinctly wide pseudopetiole of 0.23 cm in width and 0.40 cm in length,several vascular bundles on parallel veins,and 5–8 lateral veins on both sides of the midrib.Bambusium longipseudopetiolus Q.J.Wang et B.N.Sun sp.nov.has a distinctly long pseudopetiole of 0.60 cm in length and 0.10 cm in width,several vascular bundles on the pseudopetiole,and 6 lateral veins on both sides of the midrib.Pollen grains from the same layer provide additional evidence of bamboos.They are characterized by 32.0–51.0 μm in diameter,a round pore 3.0–4.0 μm in diameter with a broad thickened annulus 2.5–3.5 μm around,and several conspicuous secondary folds on the exine surface.The morphological analysis leads to their assignment to Graminidites bambusoides Stuchlik.These fossils are important for the study of bamboo phytogeography in China.They demonstrate that there were bamboos growing in southeastern China during the Late Miocene and that bamboos in Zhejiang begin to diversify no later than the Late Miocene.In combination with bamboo fossils from other places,it seems that bamboos had a wide distribution across southern China during the Miocene,ranging from southwestern Yun'nan to southeastern Zhejiang. | WANG Qiujun MA Fujun YANG Yi DONG Junling WANG Haofei LI Ruiyun XU Xiaohui SUN Bainian | 2014 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2014,88,4: | 7 |

| 7 | New Schizolepis Fossils from the Early Cretaceous in Inner Mongolia, China and its Phylogenetic Position显示文摘Three Schizolepis species collected from the Lower Cretaceous layer of the Huolinhe Basin,Inner Mongolia,China are described.These fossils are Schizolepis longipetiolus Xu XH et Sun BN sp.nov.,which is a new species,Schizolepis cf.heilongjiangensis Zheng et Zhang,and Schizolepis neimengensis Deng.The new species is a well-preserved female cone,slender and cylindrical in shape.The seed–scale complexes have long petioles and are arranged on the cone axis loosely and helically.The seed scales are divided into two lobes from the base.Each lobe is semicircular or elongate ligulate in shape,widest at the middle or the lower middle part,with an obtuse or bluntly pointed apex.The inner margin is almost straight and the outer margin is strongly arched.On the surface of the lobe,there are longitudinal and somewhat radial striations from the base to the margin.The seed is borne on the adaxial surface at the base or middle of each lobe.Schizolepis was established in 1847,and,although more than twenty species have been discovered and reported,its phylogenetic position is controversial because of the imperfection of fossils.Most authors have considered there to be a close evolutionary relationship between Schizolepis and extant Pinaceae.Here,we analyze characteristics and compare Schizolepis with Picea crassifolia Kom,which is morphologically most similar to Schizolepis.The results indicate that the genus probably has a distant evolutionary relationship with extant Pinaceae.A detailed statistical analysis of the global paleogeographic distribution of Schizolepis showed that all the fossils of this genus appeared in strata ranging from the Upper Triassic to the Lower Cretaceous in the North Hemisphere,being rare in the Upper Triassic and Lower Jurassic,but being very common from the Middle Jurassic to the Lower Cretaceous,and particularly abundant in the Lower Cretaceous.According to the statistical results,we speculate that the genus originated in Europe in the Late Triassic then spread from Europe to Asia between the Late Triassic and the Late Jurassic.In the Early Cretaceous most species existed in China's three northeastern Provinces and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and adjacent areas.Combining the paleogeographic distribution of the genus with ancient climatic factors,we deduced that Schizolepis began to decline and became extinct in the Early Cretaceous,and the reason for its extinction is closely related to the icehouse climate during the Early Cretaceous. | XU Xiaohui LI Ruiyun DONG Chong WANG Qiujun JIN Peihong SUN Bainian | 2013 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2013,87,5: | 5 |
| 8 | A high over-potential binder-free electrode constructed of Prussian blue and MnO2 for high performance aqueous supercapacitors显示文摘Extending the potential window of aqueous supercapacitors (SCs) up to 2.0 V is still a great challenge.Based on their good dynamic structural reversibility and open framework structure,the coordination superamolecular networks (CSNs) exhibit rapid charge/discharge ability and excellent cycle stability.As a typical coordination superamolecular network (CSN),Prussian blue (denoted as CSN-PB),which self-assembled by the CN-ligand and iron ions is firstly in-situ grown on carbon cloth,followed by electro-deposition of MnO2 to form CSN-PB/MnO2 composite electrode.Benefiting from synergistic effect of the constituent components,as well as the open framework structure of CSN-PB,this composite electrode reaches a high potential window of 1.4 V (vs.Ag/AgCl) and delivers a good specific capacitance of 315.3 F·g^-1 in aqueous electrolyte.An aqueous asymmetric device,constructed with CSN-PB/MnO2 composite as cathode and activated carbon as anode,can work in a stable potential window of 2.4 V,exhibits a high energy density of 46.13 Wh·kg^-1 and excellent cycling stability with 85.5% capacitance retention after 20,000 cycles.This work provides a new concept of high dynamic structural reversibility from CSNs to increase the cell voltage of asymmetric SCs for further boosting energy density. | Gaowei Zhang Hua Yao Feng Zhang Zitao Gao Qiujun Li Yangyi Yang Xihong Lu | 2019 | Nano Research2019,12,5: | 5 |

| 10 | 3.6 W compact all-fiber Pr3+-doped green laser at 521 nm显示文摘Green semiconductor lasers are still undeveloped,so high-power green lasers have heavily relied on nonlinear frequency conversion of near-infrared lasers,precluding compact and low-cost green laser systems.Here,we report the first Watt-level all-fiber CW Pr3t-doped laser operating directly in the green spectral region,addressing the aforementioned difficulties.The compact all-fiber laser consists of a double-clad Pr3t-doped fluoride fiber,two homemade fiber dichroic mirrors at visible wavelengths,and a 443-nm fiber-pigtailed pump source.Benefitting from>10 MW∕cm2 high damage intensity of our designed fiber dielectric mirror,the green laser can stably deliver 3.62-W of continuous-wave power at∼521 nm with a slope efficiency of 20.9%.To the best of our knowledge,this is the largest output power directly from green fiber lasers,which is one order higher than previously reported.Moreover,these green all-fiber laser designs are optimized by using experiments and numerical simulations.Numerical results are in excellent agreement with our experimental results and show that the optimal gain fiber length,output mirror reflectivity,and doping level should be considered to obtain higher power and efficiency.This work may pave a path toward compact high-power green all-fiber lasers for applications in biomedicine,laser display,underwater detection,and spectroscopy. | Jinhai Zou Jinfen Hong Zhuang Zhao Qingyuan Li Qiujun Ruan Hang Wang Yikun Bu Xianchao Guan Min Zhou Zhiyong Feng Zhengqian Luo | 2022 | Advanced Photonics2022,4,5: | 2 |
| 11 | Stratospheric entry point for upper-tropospheric air within the Asian summer monsoon anticyclone显示文摘The Asian summer monsoon(ASM) anticyclone isolates upper-tropospheric air within the interior of the anticyclone from the outside. Forward trajectory simulations in previous studies have shown that much of the air within the ASM anticyclone can be trapped for up to two or three weeks, not only laterally but also vertically. Here, we investigate the locations of exit points for upper-tropospheric air trapped within the ASM anticyclone, especially the preferred tropopause-crossing locations, using a 3-dimensional trajectory model. Forward trajectory calculations show two-thirds of the air crosses the tropopause at the southern part of the anticyclone via upward diabatic transport. Furthermore, some air crosses at northern and eastern parts via isentropic shedding, but air crosses rarely through the center of the anticyclone. However, calculations also show that many stratospheric parcels within the anticyclone are traceable from the upper-tropospheric anticyclone. | 14 | Efficient and targeted drug/siRNA co-delivery mediated by reversibly crosslinked polymersomes toward anti-inflammatory treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC)显示文摘Co-delivery of anti-inflammatory siRNA and hydrophilic drug provides a promising approach for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). However, lack of a suitable and efficient co-delivery carrier poses critical challenge against their utilization. We herein developed macrophage-targeting, reversibly crossli nked polymersomes (TKPR-RCP) based on the TKPR-modified, poly(ethyle ne glycol)-b-poly(trimethylene carbonate-codithiolane trimethylene carbonate)-b-polyethylenimine (PEG-P(TMC-DTC)-PEI) triblock copolymer, which could efficiently encapsulate TNF-α siRNA and dexamethasone sodium phosphate (DSP) in their hydrophilic core. The cationic PEI segments provided additional electrostatic interactions with cargo molecules to promote the encapsulatiion, and disulfide crosslinking of the polymersome membrane endowed the TKPR-RCP with high colloidal stability. Because the cationic PEI was embedded in the hydrophilic core, the polymersomes displayed neutral surface charge and thus possessed high serum stability. The TKPR-RCP co-encapsulating TNF-α siRNA and DSP could be efficiently internalized by macrophages (~98%) and undergo redox-responsive membrane de-crosslinking to accelerate cargo release in the cytoplasm, thus inducing efficient gene silencing and anti-inflammatory effect .Intravenous injectio n of the co-delivery TKPR-RCP mediated pote nt and cooperative anti-inflammatory effect in inflamed colons of UC mice, and significantly prevented animals from colonic injury. | 15 | Buxus Leaves from the Oligocene of Guangxi, China and Their Biogeographical Significance显示文摘The present paper reports two new species of Buxus from the Oligocene Ningming Formation of Guangxi, South China, on the basis of several compressed fossil leaves.Buxus ningmingensis sp.nov.is characterized by an elliptic to ovate shape; pinnate venation with marginal secondary, long hairs on the adaxial side of the midvein base; and amphistomatic, anomocytic stomata with a prominent outer ring.All of these characteristics suggest a closest affinity to the living Buxus microphylla subsp.sinica.Another new species identified as Buxus preaustro-yunnanensis sp.nov.is characterized by the diagnostic formation of its admedially branched tertiaries, the trunks of which are often strongly thickened by sclereides.This species is most similar to the extant Buxus austroyunnanensis.The co-occurrence of Buxus ningmingensis sp.nov.and Buxus preaustro-yunnanensis sp.nov.suggests that these two Buxus lived during the Oligocene under a warm, tropical to subtropical climate, similar to the current climate of Ningming.Our findings provide the earliest fossil evidence of Buxus leaves with detailed illustrations of leaf architectural and cuticular features.The occurrence of these two species indicates that Buxus began to diversify in Guangxi no later than the Oligocene. | MA Fujun WANG Qiujun DONG Junling YANG Yi WANG Wenjia YAN Defei SUN Bainian | 2015 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2015,89,5: | 2 |
