2Potential involvement of leptin in carcinogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To investigate the potential involvement of leptin in carcinogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and to elucidate the etiology, carcinogenesis and progress of HCC.METHODS: Expressions of Ob gene product, leptin and its receptor, Ob-R were investigated in 36 cases of HCC spedmens and corresponding adjacent non-tumorous liver tissues with immunohistochemical staining. The effect of leptin on proliferation of Chang liver cell line and liver cancer cell line SMMC-7721 was studied with cell proliferation assay (MTT).RESULTS: Leptin expression was detected in 36 cases of adjacent non-tumorous liver tissues (36/36,100%) with moderate (++) to strong (+++) intensity; and in 72.22%(26/36) of HCC with weaker (+) intensity (P<0.05). Thirty of 36 (83.33%) cases of adjacent non-tumorous liver tissues were positive for Ob-R, with moderate (++) to strong (+++) intensity. In HCC, 11/36 (30.56%) cases were positive, with weak (+) intensity (P<0.05). In cell proliferation assay, leptin inhibited the proliferation of Chang liver cells. The cell survival rate was 10-13% lower than that of the untreated cells (P>0.05). Leptin had little effect on the proliferation of liver cancer cells (/)>0.05).CONCLUSION: High level expression and decreased or absent expression of leptin and its receptor in adjacent non-tumorous liver cells and HCC cells, inhibitory effect of leptin on the proliferation of normal Chang liver cells and no effect of leptin on proliferation of liver cancer cells,may provide new insights into the carcinogenesis and progression of human HCC. 4The origin of Wx^(la) provides new insights into the improvement of grain quality in rice显示文摘Appearance and taste are important factors in rice(Oryza sativa) grain quality. Here, we investigated the taste scores and related eating-quality traits of533 diverse cultivars to assess the relationships between—and genetic basis of—rice taste and eating-quality. A genome-wide association study highlighted the Wx gene as the major factor underlying variation in taste and eating quality. Notably, a novel waxy(Wx) allele, Wx^(la), which combined two mutations from Wx^(b) and Wx^(in), exhibited a unique phenotype. Reduced GBSSI activity conferred Wx^(la) rice with both a transparent appearance and good eating quality. Haplotype analysis revealed that Wx^(la) was derived from intragenic recombination. In fact,the recombination rate at the Wx locus was estimated to be 3.34 kb/c M, which was about 75-fold higher than the genome-wide mean, indicating that intragenic recombination is a major force driving diversity at the Wx locus. Based on our results, we propose a new network for Wx evolution, noting that new Wx alleles could easily be generated by crossing genotypes with different Wx alleles. 5Establishing a rat model of spastic cerebral palsy by targeted ethanol injection显示文摘Spastic cerebral palsy is generally considered to result from cerebral cortical or pyramidal tract damage.Here,we precisely targeted the left pyramidal tract of 2-month-old Sprague-Dawley rats placed on a stereotaxic instrument under intraperitoneal anesthesia.Based on the rat brain stereotaxic map,a 1-mm hole was made 10 mm posterior to bregma and 0.8 mm left of sagitta suture.A microsyringe was inserted perpendicularly to the surface of the brain to a depth of 9.7 mm and 15μL of ethanol was slowly injected to establish a rat model of spastic cerebral palsy.After modeling,the rats appeared to have necrotic voids in the pyramidal tract and exhibited typical signs and symptoms of flexion spasms that lasted for a long period of time.These findings indicate that this is an effective and easy method of establishing a rat model of spastic cerebral palsy with good reproducibility.Ethanol as a chemical ablation agent specifically and thoroughly damages the pyramidal tract,and therefore,the animals display flexion spasms,which are a typical symptom of the disease.Yadong Yu Liang Li Xinzhong Shao Fangtao Tian Qinglu Sun 2013Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,34:5
6Characterization of a disease susceptibility locus for exploring an efficient way to improve rice resistance against bacterial blight显示文摘Bacterial blight caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv.oryzae(Xoo) is the most harmful bacterial disease of rice worldwide.Previously,we characterized major disease resistance(MR) gene xa25,which confers race-specific resistance to Xoo strain PXO339.The xa25 is a recessive allele of the SWEET13 locus,but SWEET13's interaction with PXO339 and how efficiently using this locus for rice breeding still need to be defined.Here we show that the SWEET 13 allele from rice Zhenshan 97 is a susceptibility gene to PXO339.Using this allele's promoter to regulate xa25 resulted in disease,suggesting that the promoter is a key determinant in SWEET13 caused disease in Zhanshan 97 after PXO339 infection.PXO339 transcriptionally induces SWEET13 to cause disease.Partial suppressing SWEET13 expression leads to a high level of resistance to PXO339.Thus,the transcriptionally suppressed SWEET13 functions as xa25 in resistance to PXO339.Hybrid rice is widely grown in many countries.However,recessive MR genes have not been efficiently used for disease resistance breeding in hybrid rice production for both parents of the hybrid have to carry the same recessive gene.However,the suppressed SWEET 13 functions dominantly,which will have advantage to improve the resistance of hybrid rice to xa25-incomptible Xoo.Qi Cheng Weihua Mao Wenya Xie Qinsong Liu Jianbo Cao Meng Yuan Qinglu Zhang Xianghua Li Shiping Wang 2017Science China(Life Sciences)2017,60,3:4
7Mandatory IFRS adoption and executive compensation:Evidence from China显示文摘This study investigates how the mandatory adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards(IFRS) affects the contractual benefits of using accounting information to determine executive compensation in China. After controlling for firm and corporate governance characteristics, we find strong evidence supporting the positive role of mandatory IFRS adoption on the accounting-based performance sensitivity of executive compensation. Subsample analysis suggests that improvements in accounting-based performance sensitivity after IFRS adoption differ across regions with various levels of institutional quality and across firms that are affected to a different extent by the adoption. 8Genetic architecture and key genes controlling the diversity of oil composition in rice grains显示文摘Rice grain oil is a valuable nutrient source.However,the genetic basis of oil biosynthesis in rice grains remains unclear.In this study,we performed a genome-wide association study on oil composition and oil concentration in a diverse panel of 533 cultivated rice accessions.High variation for 11 oil-related traits was observed,and the oil composition of rice grains showed differentiation among the subpopulations.We identified 46 loci that are significantly associated with grain oil concentration or composition,16 of which were detected in three recombinant inbred line populations.Twenty-six candidate genes encoding enzymes involved in oil metabolism were identified from these 46 loci,four of which(PAL6,LIN6,MYR2,and ARA6)were found to contribute to natural variation in oil composition and to show differentiation among the subpopulations.Interestingly,population genetic analyses revealed that specific haplotypes of PAL6 and LIN6 have been selected in japonica rice.Based on these results,we propose a possible oil biosynthetic pathway in rice grains.Collectively,our results provide new insights into the genetic basis of oil biosynthesis in rice grains and can facilitate marker-based breeding of rice varieties with enhanced oil and grain quality.Hao Zhou Duo Xia Pingbo Li Yiting Ao Xiaodong Xu Shanshan Wan Yanhua Li Bian Wu Huan Shi Kaiyue Wang Guanjun Gao Qinglu Zhang Gongwei Wang Jinghua Xiao Xianghua Li Sibin Yu Xingming Lian Yuqing He 2021Molecular Plant2021,14,3:4
9Vertical Evolution of Boundary Layer Volatile Organic Compounds in Summer over the North China Plain and the Differences with Winter显示文摘The vertical observation of volatile organic compounds(VOCs)is an important means to clarify the mechanisms of ozone formation.To explore the vertical evolution of VOCs in summer,a field campaign using a tethered balloon during summer photochemical pollution was conducted in Shijiazhuang from 8 June to 3 July 2019.A total of 192 samples were collected,23 vertical profiles were obtained,and the concentrations of 87 VOCs were measured.The range of the total VOC concentration was 41-48 ppbv below 600 m.It then slightly increased above 600 m,and rose to 58±52 ppbv at 1000 m.The proportion of alkanes increased with height,while the proportions of alkenes,halohydrocarbons and acetylene decreased.The proportion of aromatics remained almost unchanged.A comparison with the results of a winter field campaign during 8-16 January 2019 showed that the concentrations of all VOCs in winter except for halohydrocarbons were more than twice those in summer.Alkanes accounted for the same proportion in winter and summer.Alkenes,aromatics,and acetylene accounted for higher proportions in winter,while halohydrocarbons accounted for a higher proportion in summer.There were five VOC sources in the vertical direction.The proportions of gasoline vehicular emissions+industrial sources and coal burning were higher in winter.The proportions of biogenic sources+long-range transport,solvent usage,and diesel vehicular emissions were higher in summer.From the surface to 1000 m,the proportion of gasoline vehicular emissions+industrial sources gradually increased.Shuang WU Guiqian TANG Yinghong WANG Rong MAI Dan YAO Yanyu KANG Qinglu WANG Yuesi WANG 2021Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2021,38,7:3

11The rice Raf-like MAPKKK OsILA1 confers broad-spectrum resistance to bacterial blight by suppressing the OsMAPKK4-OsMAPK6 cascade显示文摘Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase(MAPKKK)are the first components of MAPK cascades,which play pivotal roles in signaling during plant development and physiological processes.The genome of rice encodes 75 MAPKKKs,of which 43 are Raf-like MAPKKKs.The functions and action modes of most of the Raf-like MAPKKKs,whether they function as bona fide MAPKKKs and which are their downstream MAPKKs,are largely unknown.Here,we identified the osmapkkk43 mutant,which conferred broad-spectrum resistance to Xanthomonas oryzae pv.oryzae(Xoo),the destructive bacterial pathogen of rice.Oryza sativa(Os)MAPKKK43 encoding a Raf-like MAPKKK was previously known as Increased Leaf Angle 1(OsILA1).Genetic analysis indicated that OsILA1 functioned as a negative regulator and acted upstream of the OsMAPKK4-OsMAPK6 cascade in rice-Xoo interactions.Unlike classical MAPKKKs,OsILA1 mainly phosphorylated the threonine 34 site at the N-terminal domain of OsMAPKK4,which possibly influenced the stability of OsMAPKK4.The N-terminal domain of OsILA1 is required for its homodimer formation and its full phosphorylation capacity.Taken together,our findings reveal that OsILA1 acts as a negative regulator of the OsMAPKK4-OsMAPK6 cascade and is involved in rice-Xoo interactions.Jie Chen Lihan Wang Zeyu Yang Hongbo Liu Chuanliang Chu Zhenzhen Zhang Qinglu Zhang Xianghua Li Jinghua Xiao Shiping Wang Meng Yuan 2021Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2021,63,10:3

132003–2017年东北露天生物质燃烧时空变化特征显示文摘近年来,露天生物质燃烧对我国东北重霾污染影响显著。本文综合利用MODIS C6火点产品以及下垫面类型产品,结合GFAS火点排放清单数据,定量研究了2003–2017年东北的火点演变特征。结果显示,东北区域近15年来火点震荡增加,并在2013–2017年达到峰值。火点季节变化明显,主要集中3–4月(占37%)和10–11月(占46%), 2013年之后春季火点突增,且在2016–2017年春季火点超过秋季。空间分布上,火点主要位于黑龙江(占71%),其次是吉林(16%)和辽宁(13%)。相比森林和草地下垫面类型,农田火点占比高达91%。本研究结果为东北区域露天生物质燃烧的重点监测时段和管控方案制订提供了参考依据。WANG Lili JIN Xin WANG Qinglu MAO Huiqin LIU Qiyang WENG Guoqing WANG Yuesi 2020Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Letters2020,13,3:2

17Spontaneous movement of a retrotransposon generated genic dominant male sterility providing a useful tool for rice breeding显示文摘Male sterility in plants provides valuable breeding tools in germplasm innovation and hybrid crop production.However,genetic resources for dominant genic male sterility,which hold great promise to facilitate breeding processes,are extremely rare in natural germplasm.Here we characterized the Sanming Dominant Genic Male Sterility in rice and identified the gene SDGMS using a map-based cloning approach.We found that spontaneous movement of a 1978-bp long terminal repeat(LTR)retrotransposon into the promoter region of the SDGMS gene activates its expression in anther tapetum,which causes abnormal programmed cell death of tapetal cells resulting in dominant male sterility.SDGMS encodes a ribosome inactivating protein showing N-glycosidase activity.The activation of SDGMS triggers transcription reprogramming of genes responsive to biotic stress leading to a hypersensitive response which causes sterility.The results demonstrate that an ectopic gene activation by transposon movement can give birth to a novel trait which enriches phenotypic diversity with practical utility.Conghao Xu Yifeng Xu Zhengji Wang Xiaoyu Zhang Yuying Wu Xinyan Lu Hongwei Sun Lei Wang Qinglu Zhang Qinghua Zhang Xianghua Li Jinghua Xiao Xu Li Mingfu Zhao Yidan Ouyang Xianbo Huang Qifa Zhang 2023National Science Review2023,10,9:1
