| 1 | Metabolic aspects of adult patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is a major cause of chronic liver disease and it encompasses a spectrum from simple steatosis to steatohepatitis, fibrosis, or cirrhosis. The mechanisms involved in the occurrence of NAFLD and its progression are probably due to a metabolic profile expressed within the context of a genetic predisposition and is associated with a higher energy intake. The metabolic syndrome(MS) is a cluster of metabolic alterations associated with an increased risk for the development of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. NAFLD patients have more than one feature of the MS, and now they are considered the hepatic components of the MS. Several scientific advances in understanding the association between NAFLD and MS have identified insulin resistance(IR) as the key aspect in the pathophysiology of both diseases. In the multi parallel hits theory of NAFLD pathogenesis, IR was described to be central in the predisposition of hepatocytes to be susceptible to other multiple pathogenetic factors. The recent knowledge gained from these advances can be applied clinically in the prevention and management of NAFLD and its associated metabolic changes. | 4 | Metabolic syndrome attenuates ulcerative colitis: Correlation with interleukin-10 and galectin-3 expression显示文摘BACKGROUND Ulcerative colitis(UC)is a chronic disease characterized by inflammation of intestinal epithelium,primarily of the colon.An increasing prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS)in patients with UC has been documented recently.Still,there is no evidence that MetS alters the course of the UC.AIM To test the influence of the MetS on the severity of UC and the local and systemic immune status.METHODS Eighty nine patients with de novo histologically confirmed UC were divided in two groups,according to ATP III criteria:Group without MetS(no MetS)and group with MetS.RESULTS Clinically and histologically milder disease with higher serum level of immunosuppressive cytokine interleukin-10(IL-10)and fecal content of Galectin-3(Gal-3)was observed in subjects with UC and MetS,compared to subjects suffering from UC only.This was accompanied with predomination of IL-10 over pro-inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factorα(TNF-α),interleukin-6(IL-6),and interleukin-17(IL-17)in the sera as well as Gal-3 over TNF-αand IL-17 in feces of UC patients with MetS.Further,the patients with both conditions(UC and MetS)had higher percentage of IL-10 producing and Gal-3 expressing innate and acquired immune cells in lamina propria.CONCLUSION Local dominance of Gal-3 and IL-10 over pro-inflammatory mediators in patients with MetS may present a mechanism for limiting the inflammatory process and subsequent tissue damage in UC. | Marina Jovanovic Bojana Simovic Markovic Nevena Gajovic Milena Jurisevic Aleksandar Djukic Ivan Jovanovic Nebojsa Arsenijevic Aleksandra Lukic Natasa Zdravkovic | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,43: | 5 |
| 5 | Presence and role of stem cells in ovarian cancer显示文摘Ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecological malignancy.It is typically diagnosed at advanced stages of the disease,with metastatic sites disseminated widely within the abdominal cavity.Ovarian cancer treatment is challenging due to high disease recurrence and further complicated pursuant to acquired chemoresistance.Cancer stem cell(CSC)theory proposes that both tumor development and progression are driven by undifferentiated stem cells capable of self-renewal and tumor-initiation.The most recent evidence revealed that CSCs in terms of ovarian cancer are not only responsible for primary tumor growth,metastasis and relapse of disease,but also for the development of chemoresistance.As the elimination of this cell population is critical for increasing treatment success,a deeper understanding of ovarian CSCs pathobiology,including epithelial-mesenchymal transition,signaling pathways and tumor microenvironment,is needed.Finally,before introducing new therapeutic agents for ovarian cancer,targeting CSCs,accurate identification of different ovarian stem cell subpopulations,including the very small embryoniclike stem cells suggested as progenitors,is necessary.To these ends,reliable markers of ovarian CSCs should be identified.In this review,we present the current knowledge and a critical discussion concerning ovarian CSCs and their clinical role. | Natasa Kenda Suster Irma Virant-Klun | 2019 | World Journal of Stem Cells2019,11,7: | 4 |
| 6 | Adiponectin serum level in chronic hepatitis C infection and therapeutic profile显示文摘Hepatic steatosis is commonly seen in the patients with chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection. HCV is closely associated with lipid metabolism,and viral steatosis is more common in genotype 3 infection owing to a direct cytopathic effect of HCV core protein. In non-genotype3 infection,hepatic steatosis is considered largely to be the result of the alterations in host metabolism; metabolic steatosis is primarily linked with HCV genotype 1. A d i p o s e t i s s u e s e c r e t e s d i f f e r e n t h o r m o n e s involved in glucose and lipid metabolisms. It has been demonstrated that adipocytokines are involved in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease,as the decreased plasma adiponectin levels,a soluble matrix protein expressed by adipoctyes and hepatocyte,are associated with liver steatosis. Various studies have shown that steatosis is strongly correlated negatively with adiponectin in the patients with HCV infection. This paper evaluates the frequency-dependent random fatigue of panel-type structures made of ceramic matrix composites(CMCs) under acoustic loadings. Firstly, the high-frequency random responses from the broadband random excitation will result in more stress cycles in a deinite period of time. The probability density distributions of stress amplitudes will be different in different frequency bandwidths, though the peak stress estimations are identical. Secondly, the fatigue properties of CMCs can be highly frequency-dependent. The fatigue evaluation method for the random vibration case is adopted to evaluate the fatigue damage of a representative stiffened panel structure. The frequency effect through S-N curves on random fatigue damage is numerically veriied.
