1Diurnal freeze/thaw cycles of the ground surface on the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The exchange of energy and water between the lithosphere and atmosphere mainly takes place at the ground surface. Therefore, freeze/thaw condition at the ground surface is an important factor in ex- amining the interactions between the land surface and atmosphere. Based on the observation data obtained by CEOP/CAMP-Tibet, the diurnal freeze/thaw cycles of the ground surface near Naqu, central Tibetan Plateau was preliminarily analyzed. The results show that the surface layer was completely frozen for approximately one month. However, the time that the ground surface experienced diurnal freeze/thaw cycles was about 6 months. The high frequency of freeze/thaw cycles at the ground surface significantly influences water and energy exchanges between ground and atmosphere over half a year. 2Tree ring based streamflow reconstruction for the Upper Yellow River over the past 1234 years显示文摘We established a Juniperus przewalski tree ring width chronology, based on tree ring cores collected from the A’nyêmaqên Mountains. Statistical analysis showed that the chronology was highly correlated with instrumental streamflow records from previous August to current July from the Tangnaihai Station in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, with a correlation coefficient of 0.656. Streamflow for the upper reaches of the Yellow River was reconstructed for the past 1234 years. Low flow periods for the 11-year averaged streamflow reconstruction were definite as lower than mean plus 1 standard deviation, and high flow periods were higher than mean minus 1 standard deviation. Over the past 1234 years, high flows occurred 18 times, and low flows occurred 12 times. The main low flow periods were identified as AD 1140–1156, AD 1295–1309, AD 1473–1500, and AD 1820–1847, and the main high flow periods were identified as AD 846–873, and AD 1375–1400. Extremely low streamflow over the reconstruction period was seen during the late 15th century, coinciding with a widespread drought phenomenon, which took place in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau over the same period. Reconstructed streamflow shows significant low-frequency variability, which is in line with drought variability of neighboring regions, as inferred from tree rings and other proxies. 3Size distribution and diffuse pollution impacts of PAHs in street dust in urban streams in the Yangtze River Delta显示文摘Particles of dust washed off streets by stormwater are an important pathway of polyaromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) into urban streams.This article presented a comprehensive assessment of the size distribution of PAHs in street dust particles,the potential risks of the particles in urban streams,and the sources and sinks of PAHs in the stream network.This assessment was based on measurements of 16 PAHs from the USEPA priority list in street dust particles and river sediments in Xincheng,China.The content of total PAHs ranged from 1629 to 8986 μg/kg in street dust particles,where smaller particles have a higher concentrations.Approximately 55% of the total PAHs were associated with particles less than 250 μm which accounted for 40% of the total mass of street dust.The PAH quantities increased from 2.41 to 46.86 μg/m2 in the sequence of new residential,rising through main roads,old town residential,commercial and industrial areas.The sediments in stream reaches in town were found to be sinks for street dust particle PAHs.The research findings suggested that particle size,land use and the hydrological conditions in the stream network were the factors which most influenced the total loads of PAH in the receiving water bodies.ZHAO Hongtao YIN Chengqing CHEN Meixue WANG Weidong Jefferies Chris SHAN Baoqing 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,2:17
4Simultaneous determination of three classes of antibiotics in the suspended solids of swine wastewater by ultrasonic extraction,solid-phase extraction and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry显示文摘This work describes a systematic approach to the development of a method for simultaneous determination of three classes of veterinary antibiotics in the suspended solids (SS) of swine wastewater,including five sulfonamides,three tetracyclines and one macrolide (tiamulin).The entire procedures for sample pretreatment,ultrasonic extraction (USE),solid-phase extraction (SPE),and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) quantification were examined and optimized.The recovery efficiencies were found to be 76%-104% for sulfonamides,81%-112% for tetracyclines,and 51%-64% for tiamulin at three spiking levels.The intra-day and inter-day precisions,as expressed by the relative standard deviation (RSD),were below 17%.The method detection limits (MDLs) were between 0.14 and 7.14 μg/kg,depending on a specific antibiotic studied.The developed method was applied to field samples collected from three concentrated swine feeding plants located in Beijing,Shanghai and Shandong province of China.All the investigated antibiotics were detected in both SS and liquid phase of swine wastewater,with partition coefficients (logK d) ranging from 0.49 to 2.30.This study demonstrates that the SS can not be ignored when determining the concentrations of antibiotics in swine wastewater.Xun Pan Zhimin Qiang Weiwei Ben Meixue Chen 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,10:16
5A 457-year reconstruction of precipitation in the southeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,China using tree-ring records显示文摘This paper presents a 457-year reconstruction of precipitation in the southeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau using tree-ring records.Tree-ring samples were collected from the Hengduan Mountains in the southeastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,China.A nearly 500-year chronology was developed using tree-ring width records.Correlation analysis shows moisture is the main factor limiting tree growth in this region.Ring-widths were significantly positively correlated with the Palmer Drought Severity Index(PDSI) and precipitation in many months.The highest correlation coefficient was found between the annual growth of trees and precipitation from the previous September to the current June(0.738).Based on this relationship,we reconstructed the precipitation history from 1509 to 2006.The reconstruction explains 54.4%(Radj2=53.5%,N=49,F=56.12) of the actual precipitation variation during the calibration period(1958-2006).During the reliable period of the reconstruction(1549-2006),some low-frequency climate signals are included,indicating this region has been getting wetter in the last 20 years.The reconstruction documents six apparently dry and five pluvial periods and the 17th century dry period lasted longer than any other.When compared with other recent studies,this study and these earlier reconstructions show a similar trend in the variation of drought and pluvial.Further spatial correlation analysis confirms that the reconstructed precipitation adequately represents the rainfall history of the entire Hengduan Mountain area.The Multi-taper method,a type of spectral analysis,reveals that precipitation in this area had significant(P<0.01) spectral peaks at 3-5 a,60 a and 79-85 a.GOU XiaoHua YANG Tao GAO LinLin DENG Yang YANG MeiXue CHEN FaHu 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,10:16
6Advanced treatment of municipal wastewater by nanofiltration: Operational optimization and membrane fouling analysis显示文摘Municipal sewage from an oxidation ditch was treated for reuse by nanofiltration(NF) in this study. The NF performance was optimized, and its fouling characteristics after different operational durations(i.e., 48 and 169 hr) were analyzed to investigate the applicability of nanofiltration for water reuse. The optimum performance was achieved when transmembrane pressure = 12 bar, p H = 4 and flow rate = 8 L/min using a GE membrane. The permeate water quality could satisfy the requirements of water reclamation for different uses and local standards for water reuse in Beijing. Flux decline in the fouling experiments could be divided into a rapid flux decline and a quasi-steady state. The boundary flux theory was used to predict the evolution of permeate flux. The expected operational duration based on the 169-hr experiment was 392.6 hr which is 175% longer than that of the 48-hr one. High molecular weight(MW) protein-like substances were suggested to be the dominant foulants after an extended period based on the MW distribution and the fluorescence characteristics. The analyses of infrared spectra and extracellular polymeric substances revealed that the roles of both humic- and polysaccharide-like substances were diminished, while that of protein-like substances were strengthened in the contribution of membrane fouling with time prolonged. Inorganic salts were found to have marginally influence on membrane fouling. 8Molecular mechanisms of salinity tolerance in rice显示文摘Salinity is one of the major abiotic stresses which impose constraints to plant growth and production.Rice(Oryza sativa L.)is one of the most important staple food crops and a model monocot plant.Its production is expanding into regions that are affected by soil salinity,requiring cultivars more tolerant to saline conditions.Understanding the molecular mechanisms of such tolerance could lay a foundation for varietal improvement of salt tolerance in rice.In spite of extensive studies exploring the mechanism of salt tolerance,there has been limited progress in breeding for increased salinity tolerance.In this review,we summarize the information about the major molecular mechanisms underlying salinity tolerance in rice and further discuss the limitations in breeding for salinity tolerance.We show that numerous gene families and interaction networks are involved in the regulation of rice responses to salinity,prompting a need for a comprehensive functional analysis.We also show that most studies are based on whole-plant level analyses with only a few reports focused on tissue-and/or cell-specific gene expression.More details of salt-responsive channel and transporter activities at tissue-and cell-specific level still need to be documented before these traits can be incorporated into elite rice germplasm.Thus,future studies should focus on diversity of available genetic resources and,particular,wild rice relatives,to reincorporate salinity tolerance traits lost during domestication.Tianxiao Chen Sergey Shabala Yanan Niu Zhong-Hua Chen Lana Shabala Holger Meinke Gayatri Venkataraman Ashwani Pareek Jianlong Xu Meixue Zhou 2021The Crop Journal2021,9,3:11
9K^+ retention in leaf mesophyll, an overlooked component of salinity tolerance mechanism:A case study for barley显示文摘Plant salinity tolerance is a physiologically complex trait, with numerous mechanisms contributing to it. In this work,we show that the ability of leaf mesophyll to retain Kt represents an important and essentially overlooked component of a salinity tolerance mechanism. The strong positive correlation between mesophyll Ktretention ability under saline conditions(quantified by the magnitude of Na Cl-induced Kt efflux from mesophyll) and the overall salinity tolerance(relative fresh weight and/or survival or damage under salinity stress) was found while screening 46 barley(Hordeum vulgare L.) genotypes contrasting in their salinity tolerance. Genotypes with intrinsically higher leaf Ktcontent under control conditions were found to possess better Ktretention ability under salinity and, hence, overall higher tolerance. Contrary to previous reports for barley roots, Ktretention in mesophyll was not associated with an increased Ht-pumping in tolerant varieties but instead correlated negatively with this trait. 11Variations in Soil Temperature at BJ Site on the Central Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The temporal and spatial variation in soil temperature play a significant role in energy and water cycle between land surface and atmosphere on the Tibetan Plateau.Based on the observed soil temperature data(hourly data from 1 January 2001 to 31 December 2005)obtained by GAME-Tibet,the diurnal,seasonal and interannual variations in soil temperature at BJ site(31.37°N,91.90°E;4509 m a.s.l.)near Naqu in the central Tibetan Plateau were analyzed.Results showed that the average diurnal variation in soil temperature at 4 and 20 cm depth can be described as sinusoidal curve,which is consistent with the variation of solar radiation. However,the average diurnal variation in soil temperature under 60 cm was very weak.The average diurnal amplitude in soil temperature decreased by the exponential decay function with the increase of soil depth(R2=0.92,p<0.01).It is demonstrated that the average diurnal maximum soil temperature decreased by the exponential decay function with the increase of soil depth(R2=0.78,p<0.01).In contrast, the average diurnal minimum soil temperature increased by the exponential grow function with increasing of soil depth(R2=0.86,p<0.01).There were a linear negative correlation between the average annual maximum Ts and soil depth(R2=0.96, p<0.01),a logarithmic function relationship between the average annual minimum soil temperature and soil depth(R2=0.92,p<0.01).The average seasonal amplitude in soil temperature followed the exponential decay function with the increase of soil depth(R2=0.98,p<0.01).The mean annual soil temperature in each layer indicated a warming trend prominently.During the study period,the mean annual soil temperature at 4,20,40,60,80,100,130, 160,200 and 250 cm depth increased by 0.034,0.041, 0.061,0.056,0.062,0.050,0.057,0.051,0.047 and 0.042°C/a,respectively.WAN Guoning YANG Meixue WANG Xuejia 2012Journal of Mountain Science2012,9,2:6
12Effects of chlortetracycline,Cu and their combination on the performance and microbial community dynamics in swine manure anaerobic digestion显示文摘Swine manure was typical for the combined pollution of heavy metals and antibiotics. The effects of widely used veterinary antibiotic chlortetracycline(CTC), Cu and their combination on swine manure anaerobic digestion performance and microbial community have never been investigated. Thus, four 2 L anaerobic digestion reactors were established including reactor A(control), B(CTC spiked by 0.5 g/kg dry weight, dw), C(Cu spiked by 5 g/kg dw) and D(combination of CTC, 0.5 g/kg dw, and Cu, 5 g/kg dw), and dynamics of bacterial and archaeal community structure was investigated using high throughput sequencing method. Results showed that addition of CTC and Cu separately could increase the total biogas production by21.6% and 15.8%, respectively, while combination of CTC and Cu severely inhibited anaerobic digestion(by 30.3%). Furthermore, corresponding to different stages and reactors, four kinds of microbes including bacteria and archaea were described in detail, and the effects of CTC, Cu and their combination mainly occurred at hydrolysis and acidification phases. The addition of Cu alone changed the dynamics of archaeal community significantly. 13Review on simulation of land-surface processes on the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau(TP) has powerful dynamics and thermal effects, which makes the interaction between its land and atmosphere significantly affect climate and environment in the regional or global area. By retrospecting the latest research progress in the simulation of land-surface processes(LSPs) over the past 20 years, this study discusses both the simulation ability of land-surface models(LSMs) and the modification of parameterization schemes from two perspectives, the models' applicability and improved parameterization schemes. Our review suggests that different LSMs can well capture the spatiotemporal variations of the physical quantities of LSPs; but none of them can be fully applied to the plateau, meaning that all need to be revised according to the characteristics specific to the TP. Avoiding the unstable iterative computation and determining the freeze-thaw critical temperature according to the thermodynamic equilibrium equation, the unreasonable freeze-thaw parameterization scheme can be improved. Due to the complex underlying surface of the TP, no parameterization scheme of roughness length can well simulate the various characteristics of the turbulent flux over the TP at different temporal scales. The uniform soil thermodynamic and hydraulic parameterization scheme is unreasonable when it is applied to the plateau, as a result of the strong soil heterogeneity. There is little research on the snow-cover process so far,and the improved scheme has no advantage over the original one due to the lack of some related physical processes. The constant interaction among subprocesses of LSPs makes the improvement of a multiparameterization scheme yield better simulation results. 14Hypoxia-induced increase in GABA content is essential for restoration of membrane potential and preventing ROS-induced disturbance to ion homeostasis显示文摘When plants are exposed to hypoxic conditions,the level of g-aminobutyric acid(GABA)in plant tissues increases by several orders of magnitude.The physiological rationale behind this elevation remains largely unanswered.By combining genetic and electrophysiological approach,in this work we show that hypoxia-induced increase in GABA content is essential for restoration of membrane potential and preventing ROS-induced disturbance to cytosolic K+homeostasis and Ca^(2+)signaling.We show that reduced O_(2) availability affects H+-ATPase pumping activity,leading to membrane depolarization and K+loss via outward-rectifying GORK channels.Hypoxia stress also results in H_(2)O_(2) accumulation in the cell that activates ROS-inducible Ca^(2+)uptake channels and triggers self-amplifying'ROS-Ca hub,'further exacerbating K^(+)loss via non-selective cation channels that results in the loss of the cell’s viability.Hypoxia-induced elevation in the GABA level may restore membrane potential by pH-dependent regulation of H^(+)-ATPase and/or by generating more energy through the activation of the GABA shunt pathway and TCA cycle.Elevated GABA can also provide better control of the ROS-Ca^(2+)hub by transcriptional control of RBOH genes thus preventing over-excessive H_(2)O_(2) accumulation.Finally,GABA can operate as a ligand directly controlling the open probability and conductance of K+efflux GORK channels,thus enabling plants adaptation to hypoxic conditions.Qi Wu Nana Su Xin Huang Jin Cui Lana Shabala Meixue Zhou Min Yu Sergey Shabala 2021Plant Communications2021,2,3:2
15Elevated miR-10a-5p facilitates cell cycle and restrains adipogenic differentiation via targeting Map2k6 and Fasn,respectively显示文摘miRNAs are a small class of noncoding RNAs that perform biological functions by regulating the stability or translation of target genes in various biological processes.This study illustrated the role of miR-10a-5p,which is relatively enriched in adipose tissues,using primary mouse preadipocytes as model.With elevated miR-10a-5p expression,the proliferative ability of mouse preadipocytes was significantly enhanced,indicated by increased EdU+cells and G1/S transition,accompanied by upregulated Cyclin B,Cyclin D and PCNA and downregulated p21 and p27.Meanwhile,the adi-pogenic differentiation was significantly attenuated by elevated miR-10a-5p,supported by Oil Red 0 staining and suppressed PPARγand aP2 expression.Furthermore,Map2k6 and Fasn were pre-dicted to be the target genes of miR-10a-5p in silico,and dual luciferase reporter assay confirmed the direct targeting effects.Western blot analysis results showed that miR-10a-5p specially reduced Map2k6 expression at the proliferative stage without affecting Fasn expression,while significantly restrained Fasn expression with unchanged Map2k6 expression during adipogenic differentiation.Taken together,these results revealed a potential role of miR-10a-5p in adipogenesis and in the treatment of obesity.Xiaoyu Wang Huifang Zhang Meixue Xu Xin'E Shi Gongshe Yang Shiduo Sun Xiao Li 2020Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2020,52,11:2
