1The discovery of annually laminated sediments (varves) from shallow Sugan Lake in inland arid China and their paleoclimatic significance显示文摘Detailed examination of sedimentary cores retrieved from Sugan Lake in the northern Qaidam Basin of northwest China’s Tibetan Plateau reveal that fine laminated beddings form in the sediments where water depth exceeds 3 m. Seasonal surface sediments trapped at the bottom of the lake suggest that sediments deposited during summer and autumn are mainly light colored monohydrocalcites, while those deposited in winter are dark organic matter, indicating that varve layers form under modern limnological conditions. Continuous varve sediments comprising four types have accumulated in the upper 5.5 m of Core SG03I from the center of the lake. All types exhibit clear seasonality indicative of annual deposition. Varve counts correspondence with 210Pb dates on recent sediments in the upper core suggest the continuous varves of the upper 5.5 m of the core formed in the late Holocene (2670 a BP). 2Targeting the alternative bile acid synthetic pathway for metabolic diseases显示文摘The gut microbiota is profoundly involved in glucose and lipid metabolism,in part by regulating bile acid(BA)metabolism and affecting multiple BA-receptor signaling pathways.BAs are synthesized in the liver by multi-step reactions catalyzed via two distinct routes,the classical pathway(producing the 12α-hydroxylated primary BA,cholic acid),and the alternative pathway(producing the non-12α-hydroxylated primary BA,chenodeoxycholic acid).BA synthesis and excretion is a major pathway of cholesterol and lipid catabolism,and thus,is implicated in a variety of metabolic diseases including obesity,insulin resistance,and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.Additionally,both oxysterols and BAs function as signaling molecules that activate multiple nuclear and membrane receptor-mediated signaling pathways in various tissues,regulating glucose,lipid homeostasis,inflammation,and energy expenditure.Modulating BA synthesis and composition to regulate BA signaling is an interesting and novel direction for developing therapies for metabolic disease.In this review,we summarize the most recent findings on the role of BA synthetic pathways,with a focus on the role of the alternative pathway,which has been under-investigated,in treating hyperglycemia and fatty liver disease.We also discuss future perspectives to develop promising pharmacological strategies targeting the alternative BA synthetic pathway for the treatment of metabolic diseases.Wei Jia Meilin Wei Cynthia Rajani Xiaojiao Zheng 2021Protein & Cell2021,12,5:17
3Broadband achromatic metalens in terahertz regime显示文摘Achromatic focusing is essential for broadband operation, which has recently been realised from visible to infrared wavelengths using a metasurface. Similarly, multi-terahertz functional devices can be encoded in a desired metasurface phase profile. However, metalenses suffer from larger chromatic aberrations because of the intrinsic dispersion of each unit element. Here, we propose an achromatic metalens with C-shaped unit elements working from 0.3 to 0.8 THz with a bandwidth of approximately 91% over the centre frequency. The designed metalens possesses a high working efficiency of more than 68% at the peak and a relatively high numerical aperture of 0.385. We further demonstrate the robustness of our Cshaped metalens, considering lateral shape deformations and deviations in the etching depth. 4Relationship between expression of CD105 and growth factors in malignant tumors of gastrointestinal tract and its significance显示文摘AIM: Angiogenesis is an important step in the growth of solid malignant tumors. A number of angiogenic factors have been found such as transforming growth factorβ1 (TGF-β1)and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). However,the roles of TGFβ1 and VEGF in gastrointestinal carcinogenesis are still unclear. This study was to investigate the expressions of TGF-β1 and VEGF in gastrointestinal tract malignant tumors, as well as their association with microvessel density (MVD). At the same time, we also observed the localization of TGF-β1 and its receptor CD105 in gastric malignant tumors.METHODS: The expressions of TGF-β1 and CDL05 were detected in 55 fresh specimens of gastric carcinoma and VEGF and CD105 in 44 fresh specimens of colorectal carcinoma by immunohistochemical staining (S-ABC). TGF-β1 and CD105 in 55 gastric carcinoma tissues on the same slide were detected by using double-stain Tmmunohistochemistry (DS-ABC).RESULTS: Among the 55 cases of gastric carcinoma tissues,30 were positive for TGF-β1 (54.55 %). The MVD of TGF-β1 strong positive group (++~+++ 23.22±5.8) was significantly higher than that of weak positive group (+17.56±7.2) and negative group (- 17.46±3.9) (q=4.5, q=5.3207, respectively,P<0.01). In the areas of high expression of TGF-β1, MVD and the expression of CD105 were also high. Among the 44 cases of colonic carcinoma tissues, 26 were positive for VEGF (59.1%). The expressions of both VEGF and CD105 (MVD)were related with the depth of invasion (F=5.438, P<0.05;F=4.168, P=0.05), lymph node metastasis (F=10.311, P<0.01;F=20.282, P<0.01) and Dukes stage (F=6.196, P<0.01;F=10.274, P<0.01), but not with histological grade (F=0.487,P>0.05). There was a significant correlation between the expression of VEGF and CD105 (MVD) (r=0.720, P<0.01).CONCLUSION: Over-expression of TGF-β1 and VEGF acts as stimulating factors of angiogenesis in gastrointestinal tumors.CD105, as a receptor of TGF-β1, can regulate the biological effect of TGF-β1 in tumor angiogenesis. 5Joint optimization of LORA and spares stocks considering corrective maintenance time显示文摘Level of repair analysis(LORA) is an important method of maintenance decision for establishing systems of operation and maintenance in the equipment development period. Currently, the research on equipment of repair level focuses on economic analysis models which are used to optimize costs and rarely considers the maintenance time required by the implementation of the maintenance program. In fact, as to the system requiring high mission complete success, the maintenance time is an important factor which has a great influence on the availability of equipment systems. Considering the relationship between the maintenance time and the spares stocks level, it is obvious that there are contradictions between the maintenance time and the cost. In order to balance these two factors, it is necessary to build an optimization LORA model. To this end, the maintenance time representing performance characteristic is introduced, and on the basis of spares stocks which is traditionally regarded as a decision variable, a decision variable of repair level is added, and a multi-echelon multiindenture(MEMI) optimization LORA model is built which takes the best cost-effectiveness ratio as the criterion, the expected number of backorder(EBO) as the objective function and the cost as the constraint. Besides, the paper designs a convex programming algorithm of multi-variable for the optimization model, provides solutions to the non-convex objective function and methods for improving the efficiency of the algorithm. 7Wentzel-Kramer-Brillouin and finite-difierence time-domain analysis of Terahertz band electromagnetic characteristics of target coated with unmagnetized plasma显示文摘We investigate computationally the attenuation and reffection of Terahertz (THz) wave using targets coated with plasmas. The simulators are the Wentzel-Kramer-Brillouin (WKB) method and finite-difierence time-domain (FDTD) method. The relation between the frequency of the incident electromagnetic (EM) wave and the attenuation caused by unmagnitized plasma is analyzed. The results demonstrate that the amount of absorbed power is a decreasing function of the EM wave frequency and the plasma collision frequency. For THz band incident wave, the attenuation that is caused by plasma is small when the plasma has common density and the collision frequency. 11Location and allocation problem for spare parts depots on integrated logistics support显示文摘In equipment integrated logistics support(ILS), the supply capability of spare parts is a significant factor. There are lots of depots in the traditional support system, which makes too many redundant spare parts and causes high cost of support. Meanwhile,the inconsistency among depots makes it difficult to manage spare parts. With the development of information technology and transportation, the supply network has become more efficient. In order to further improve the efficiency of supply-support work and the availability of the equipment system, building a system of one centralized depot with multiple depots becomes an appropriate way.In this case, location selection of the depots including centralized depots and multiple depots becomes a top priority in the support system. This paper will focus on the location selection problem of centralized depots considering ILS factors. Unlike the common location selection problem, depots in ILS require a higher service level. Therefore, it becomes desperately necessary to take the high requirement of the mission into account while determining location of depots. Based on this, we raise an optimal depot location model. First, the expected transportation cost is calculated.Next, factors in ILS such as response time, availability and fill rate are analyzed for evaluating positions of open depots. Then, an optimization model of depot location is developed with the minimum expected cost of transportation as objective and ILS factors as constraints. Finally, a numerical case is studied to prove the validity of the model by using the genetic algorithm. 12Emerging roles of activating transcription factor (ATF) family members in tumourigenesis and immunity: Implications in cancer immunotherapy显示文摘Activating transcription factors, ATFs, are a group of bZIP transcription factors that act as homodimers or heterodimers with a range of other bZIP factors. In general, ATFs respond to extracellular signals, indicating their important roles in maintaining homeostasis. The ATF family includes ATF1, ATF2, ATF3, ATF4, ATF5, ATF6, and ATF7. Consistent with the diversity of cellular processes reported to be regulated by ATFs, the functions of ATFs are also diverse. ATFs play an important role in cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation and inflammation-related pathological processes. The expression and phosphorylation status of ATFs are also related to neurodegenerative diseases and polycystic kidney disease. Various miRNAs target ATFs to regulate cancer proliferation, apoptosis, autophagy, sensitivity and resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Moreover, ATFs are necessary to maintain cell redox homeostasis. Therefore, deepening our understanding of the regulation and function of ATFs will provide insights into the basic regulatory mechanisms that influence how cells integrate extracellular and intracellular signals into genomic responses through transcription factors. Under pathological conditions, especially in cancer biology and response to treatment, the characterization of ATF dysfunction is important for understanding how to therapeutically utilize ATF2 or other pathways controlled by transcription factors. 13Association oftransforming growth factor-β1 gene variants with risk of coal workers'pneumoconiosis显示文摘Objective:The aim of this case-control study was to explore whether five tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms(tSNPs)within the transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)gene were involved in manifestation of inflammatory and fibrotic processes associated with coal workers'pneumoconiosis(CWP).Methods:The study included 508 CWP patients and 526 controls who were underground coal miners from Xuzhou Mining Business Group.Five tSNPs were selected from the HapMap and detected by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP)method.Results:The single SNP analysis showed that the genotype frequencies of SNP2(rs1800470,+869T/C,extron 1)and SNP5(rs11466345,intron 5)in CWP cases were sig- nificantly different from those in controls.Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that SNP2(rs1800470) CC genotype was associated with decreased risk of CWP(OR=0.50,95%CI=0.32-0.78),which was evident among subgroups of those never smoke(OR=0.40,95%CI=0.24-0.66),cases with stageⅡ(OR=0.41,95%CI =0.22-0.76)and exposure period(<28 y:OR=0.54,95%CI=0.31-0.95;≥28 y:OR=0.52,95%CI=0.32-0.96). 15Bladder cancer epidemiology and genetic susceptibility显示文摘Bladder cancer is the most common malignancy of the urinary system. The incidence of bladder cancer of men is higher than that of women (approximately 4:1). Here, we summarize the bladder cancer-related risk factors, including environmental and genetic factors. In recent years, although the mortality rate induced by bladder cancer has been stable or decreased gradually, the public health effect may be pronounced. The well-established risk factors for bladder cancer are cigarette smoking and occupational exposure. Genetic factors also play important roles in the susceptibility to bladder cancer. A recent study demonstrated that hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer is associated with increased risk of bladder cancer. Since 2008, genome-wide association study (GWAS) has been used to identify the susceptibility loci for bladder cancer. 17Electron-transfer enhanced MoO2-Ni heterostructures as a highly efficient pH-universal catalyst for hydrogen evolution显示文摘Hydrogen is one of the most promising energy carriers to replace fossil fuels and electrolyzing water to produce hydrogen is a very effective method.However,designing highly active and stable non-precious metal hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts that can be used in universal pH is a huge challenge.Here,we have reported a simple strategy to develop a highly active and durable non-precious MoO2-Ni electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in a wide pH range.The MoO2-Ni catalyst exhibits a superior electrocatalytic performance with low overpotentials of 46,69,and 84 mV to reach-10 mA cm-2 in 1.0 M KOH,0.5 M H2SO4,and 1.0 M PBS electrolytes,respectively.At the same time,the catalyst also shows outstanding stability over a wide pH range.It is particularly noted that the catalytic performance of MoO2-Ni in alkaline solution is comparable to the highest performing catalysts reported.The outstanding HER performance is mainly attributed to the collective effect of the rational morphological design,electronic structure engineering,and strong interfacial coupling between MoO2 and Ni in heterojunctions.This work provides a viable method for the synthesis of inexpensive and efficient HER electrocatalysts for the use in wide pH ranges.Benzhi Wang Hexiu Huang Meilin Huang Puxuan Yan Tayirjan Taylor Isimjan Xiulin Yang 2020Science China Chemistry2020,63,6:3
