| 2 | The epigenetics of autoimmunity显示文摘The etiology of autoimmune diseases remains largely unknown.Concordance rates in monozygotic twins are lower than 50% while genome-wide association studies propose numerous significant associations representing only a minority of patients.These lines of evidence strongly support other complementary mechanisms involved in the regulation of genes expression ultimately causing overt autoimmunity.Alterations in the post-translational modification of histones and DNA methylation are the two major epigenetic mechanisms that may potentially cause a breakdown of immune tolerance and the perpetuation of autoimmune diseases.In recent years,several studies both in clinical settings and experimental models proposed that the epigenome may hold the key to a better understanding of autoimmunity initiation and perpetuation.More specifically,data support the impact of epigenetic changes in systemic lupus erythematosus,rheumatoid arthritis,multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases,in some cases based on mechanistical observations.We herein discuss what we currently know and what we expect will come in the next future.Ultimately,epigenetic treatments already being used in oncology may soon prove beneficial also in autoimmune diseases. | Francesca Meda Marco Folci Andrea Baccarelli Carlo Selmi | 2011 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2011，8，3： | 8 |

| 6 | Realization of the first sub-shot-noise wide field microscope显示文摘Recently,several proof of principle experiments have demonstrated the advantages of quantum technologies over classical schemes.The present challenge is to surpass the limits of proof of principle demonstrations to approach real applications.This letter presents such an achievement in the field of quantum enhanced imaging.In particular,we describe the realization of a sub-shot-noise wide field microscope based on spatially multi-mode non-classical photon number correlations in twin beams.The microscope produces realtime images of 8000 pixels at full resolution,for a 500μm2 field of view,with noise reduced to 80%of the shot noise level(for each pixel),which is suitable for absorption imaging of complex structures.By fast post-elaboration,specifically applying a quantum enhanced median filter,the noise can be further reduced(to o30%of the shot noise level)by setting a trade-off with the resolution,thus achieving the best sensitivity per incident photon reported in absorption microscopy. | Nigam Samantaray Ivano Ruo-Berchera Alice Meda Marco Genovese | 2017 | Light(Science & Applications)2017，6，1： | 3 |

| 8 | Producing durable pellets from barley straw subjected to radio frequency-alkaline and steam explosion pretreatments显示文摘Pelletization,a form of densification,increases bulk density and improves the convenience and accessibility of biomass feedstock due to the uniform shape and size.Pretreatment of biomass enhances the breakdown and accessibility of the cross-linking lignin,which acts as a binding agent.In this study,pelletization of radio frequency-alkaline and steam explosion pretreated barley straw was performed.Three levels of temperature(70oC,80oC,and 90oC),five levels of the mass ratio of biomass to NaOH solution(1:4,1:5,1:6,1:7,and 1:8),one hour equilibration time,biomass screen size of 1.6 mm,1%NaOH concentration,and 20 min residence time in the radio frequency chamber were used for the radio frequency-alkaline pretreatment.Three levels of steam temperature(140oC,160oC,and 180oC),three levels of moisture content of 8%,30%,and 50%(mass fraction of total mass),and 5 min and 10 min exposure to steam were tested for the steam explosion pretreatment.The effects of both pretreatment methods were evaluated by pelletizing the pretreated and non-pretreated barley straw samples in a single pelleting unit.The pellet density,tensile strength,durability,dimensional stability,and color of the pellets were determined.Radio frequency-alkaline pretreatment with the use of 1%NaOH solution and a ratio of biomass:NaOH solution of 1:8 has significant effect(P<0.05)on the breakdown of the lignified matrix,resulting in pellets with superior physical characteristics.The steam exploded samples pretreated at higher temperatures(180ºC)and retention time of 10 min resulted into pellets with good physical qualities. | Kingsley L.Iroba Lope G.Tabil Shahab Sokhansanj Venkatesh Meda | 2014 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2014，7，3： | 2 |
| 9 | Presence of three dengue serotypes in Ouagadougou(Burkina Faso):research and public health implications显示文摘Background:The significant malaria burden in Africa has often eclipsed other febrile illnesses.Burkina Faso’s first dengue epidemic occurred in 1925 and the most recent in 2013.Yet there is still very little known about dengue prevalence,its vector proliferation,and its poverty and equity impacts.Methods:An exploratory cross-sectional survey was performed from December 2013 to January 2014.Six primary healthcare centers in Ouagadougou were selected based on previously reported presence of Flavivirus.All patients consulting with fever or having had fever within the previous week and with a negative rapid diagnostic test(RDT)for malaria were invited to participate.Sociodemographic data,healthcare use and expenses,mobility,health-related status,and vector control practices were captured using a questionnaire.Blood samples of every eligible subject were obtained through finger pricks during the survey for dengue RDT using SD BIOLINE Dengue Duo(NS1Ag and IgG/IgM)®and to obtain blood spots for reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)analysis.In a sample of randomly selected yards and those of patients,potential Aedes breeding sites were found and described.Larvae were collected and brought to the laboratory to monitor the emergence of adults and identify the species.Results:Of the 379 subjects,8.7%(33/379)had positive RDTs for dengue.Following the 2009 WHO classification,38.3%(145/379)had presumptive,probable,or confirmed dengue,based on either clinical symptoms or laboratory testing.Of 60 samples tested by RT-PCR(33 from the positive tests and 27 from the subsample of negatives),15 were positive.The serotypes observed were DENV2,DENV3,and DENV4.Odds of dengue infection in 15-to-20-year-olds and persons over 50 years were 4.0(CI 95%:1.0–15.6)and 7.7(CI 95%:1.6–37.1)times higher,respectively,than in children under five.Average total spending for a dengue episode was 13771 FCFA[1300–67300 FCFA](1$US=478 FCFA).On average,2.6 breeding sites were found per yard.Potential Aedes breeding sites were found near 71.4%(21/28)of patients,but no adult Aedes were found.The most frequently identified potential breeding sites were water storage containers(45.2%).Most specimens collected in yards were Culex(97.9%).Conclusions:The scientific community,public health authorities,and health workers should consider dengue as a possible cause of febrile illness in Burkina Faso. | Valéry Ridde Isabelle Agier Emmanuel Bonnet Mabel Carabali Kounbobr Roch Dabiré Florence Fournet Antarou Ly Ivlabèhiré Bertrand Meda Beatriz Parra | 2016 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016，5，1： | 2 |

| 11 | Optimization of wheat debranning using laboratory equipment for ethanol production显示文摘Ethanol production from starchy cereal grains is increasing rapidly due to increasing demand for alternative fuels.In Canada,wheat is the primary feedstock in ethanol plants.To improve the productivity of the ethanol plants in terms of product quality and yield,debranning of wheat grains may be employed.Debranning is advantageous in two ways.Firstly,bran removal increases the starch content of the feedstock,improving the fermentation efficiency of the ethanol plants.Secondly,bran,a valuable co-product can be used as an animal feed ingredient.In this study,experiments to optimize the debranning process were carried out using two kinds of abrasive equipment,the Satake and the TADD(tangential abrasive dehulling device)mills.Wheat samples(30 and 200 g)were debranned in the Satake mill at 1215,1412,and 1515 r/min rotational speeds,30,36,and 40 grit sizes,and 30,60,and 90 s retention times,and in the TADD mill at 900 r/min rotational speed,30,36,50,and 80 grit sizes,and 120,180,240,and 300 s retention times.In addition to debranning efficiency,the starch separation efficiencies of the two mills were calculated in different debranning conditions.In the Satake mill,the 30 g and 200 g sample size,1412 r/min and 1515 r/min rotational speeds,all grit sizes,and 60 s of retention time demonstrated the highest debranning efficiency.Correspondingly,optimal results in the TADD mill were obtained with 200 g sample size,900 r/min rotational speed,50 and 80 grit sizes,and 180 s and 240 s retention times.However,based on the experimental results,Satake mill provided better debranning values compared to the TADD mill.The starch separation efficiency values supported these results. | Elizabeth George Bayartoghtok Rentsen Lope G.Tabil Venkatesh Meda | 2014 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2014，7，6： | 2 |
