| 1 | Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor of the kidney presenting with pulmonary tumor embolism: A case report显示文摘Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor(PNET) of the kidney is a rare, aggressive tumor known for its recurrence and metastatic potential. Despite the frequency of venous extension to the renal veins and inferior vena cava, pulmonary tumor embolism at the initial presentation is not common. We report a case of 22-year-old female with PNET of the kidney who presented with tumor embolism in the inferior vena cava(IVC) and bilateral pulmonary artery. The patient underwent surgical resection and histopathological analysis confirmed the presence of tumor within the IVC and pulmonary arteries. | 9 | New insights into carbon-based and MXene anodes for Na and K-ion storage: A review显示文摘Na-ion batteries and K-ion batteries are promising alternatives to vastly used lithium-ion batteries mainly due to the larger natural abundance of sodium and potassium resources. Carbon-based and MXene materials have received increasing attention due to their unique layered structure to accommodate the larger sodium and potassium ions. It’s proposed that ionic size disparity (K^(+): 1.38 Å;Na^(+): 0.97 Å;Li^(+): 0.76 Å) leads to sluggish intercalation and extraction kinetics in larger alkali metal ions (AMIs). Nevertheless, the electrochemical inactivity of sodium intercalation in graphite suggests that different chemical properties of AMs and their interactions with carbon host and electrolytes is crucial for interfacial instability and irreversible capacity loss. Structural modifications by expanding interlayer spacing and defect engineering enable reduced diffusion barriers and enhanced insertion of sodium or potassium, but it blurs the electrochemical performance between battery and capacitor. This review provides insight into 2D carbon materials and their architectures for Na and K-ion batteries through an in-depth analysis of structure–property interdependence and different electrochemical mechanisms supported by both experimental and theoretical data to discuss the promises and challenges of post-lithium batteries. | 16 | Thermal performance and comfort assessment of U-shape and helical shape earth-air heat exchanger in India显示文摘Earth Air Tunnel Heat Exchanger(EATHE)systems are not so much popular in India because of restricted acces-sibility of ground space in majority of residential and commercial sector.In the present article,thermal perfor-mance of newly designed helical shaped EATHE system has been compared with conventional U-shaped EATHE system by keeping similar geometrical and operational configuration for the summer(April-June)and winter(December-February),respectively.In this regard,therefore,numerical model of both EATHE systems have been designed and experimentally validated.The thermal performance of both EATHE systems has been compared in terms of outlet air temperature and effectiveness.The present numerical study suggested that the newly designed helical EATHE system exhibits better thermal performance with lower ground requirement as compared to con-ventional U-shaped EATHE system.To evaluate the thermal comfort potential of EATHE system in office buildings of India,composite climate specific adaptive thermal comfort boundaries has been used.The detailed thermal performance behaviour of the EATHE system suggests that an additional 80%of the time;ambient air condi-tions became thermally comfortable during peak summer season.In addition,analysis of the results revealed that EATHE system has more potential during heating operation mode to maintain indoor comfort in winter season of composite climate in India. | Anuj Mathur Sanjay Kumar | 2022 | Energy and Built Environment2022,3,2: | 0 |
| 17 | Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields from Mobile Phones and Fructose consumption Coalesce to Perturb Metabolic Regulators AMPK/SIRT1-UCP2/FOXO1 in Growing Rats显示文摘Objective In this study,the combined effect of two stressors,namely,electromagnetic fields(EMFs)from mobile phones and fructose consumption,on hypothalamic and hepatic master metabolic regulators of the AMPK/SIRT1-UCP2/FOXO1 pathway were elucidated to delineate the underlying molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance.Methods Weaned Wistar rats(28 days old)were divided into 4 groups:Normal,Exposure Only(ExpO),Fructose Only(FruO),and Exposure and Fructose(EF).Each group was provided standard laboratory chow ad libitum for 8 weeks.Additionally,the control groups,namely,the Normal and FruO groups,had unrestricted access to drinking water and fructose solution(15%),respectively.Furthermore,the respective treatment groups,namely,the ExpO and EF groups,received EMF exposure(1,760 MHz,2 h/day x 8 weeks).In early adulthood,mitochondrial function,insulin receptor signaling,and oxidative stress signals in hypothalamic and hepatic tissues were assessed using western blotting and biochemical analysis.Result In the hypothalamic tissue of EF,SIRT1,FOXO 1,p-PI3K,p-AKT,ComplexⅢ,UCP2,MnSOD,and catalase expressions and OXPHOS and GSH activities were significantly decreased(P<0.05)compared to the Normal,ExpO,and FruO groups.In hepatic tissue of EF,the p-AMPKα,SIRT1,FOXO1,IRS1,p-PI3K,ComplexⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ,Ⅴ,UCP2,and MnSOD expressions and the activity of OXPHOS,SOD,catalase,and GSH were significantly reduced compared to the Normal group(P<0.05).Conclusion The findings suggest that the combination of EMF exposure and fructose consumption during childhood and adolescence in Wistar rats disrupts the closely interlinked and multi-regulated crosstalk of insulin receptor signals,mitochondrial OXPHOS,and the antioxidant defense system in the hypothalamus and liver. | Ruchi Tripathi Sanjay Kumar Banerjee Jay Prakash Nirala Rajani Mathur | 2023 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2023,36,11: | 0 |
