| 1 | Effect of moxa smoke produced during combustion of Aiye(Folium Artemisiae Argyi) on behavioral changes in mice inhaling the smoke显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects that inhalation of the combustion products of the traditional Chinese herb Aiye(Folium Artemisiae Argyi) has on the central nervous system.METHODS: Forty Kunming mice(half male) were randomly assigned(n = 10/group) to a control group(C) or one of three moxa smoke concentration groups(% opacity): low(L1; 0.4%), medium(M1; 2%), and high(H1; 15%). Mice in the latter three groups were exposed to moxa smoke in a dynamic gas exposure cabinet for 20 min per day for7 days. Mice in control group were placed in the same cabinet without any intervention. For the sleep experiments, another 50 mice were divided into five groups of 10 mice each: a saline-injected control group, L1 + pentobarbital sodium(PS)-injected group, M1+PS group, H1(15%)+PS group,and a positive control group(10 mg/kg, chlorpromazine, p.o.). The weight, general activities, locomotor activities, rotarod performance, sleep duration,and sleeping rate induced by a subthreshold dose of pentobarbital sodium were recorded in the mice,and the composition of moxa smoke was analyzed using headspace gas chromatography(GC-HS).RESULTS: A low concentration of smoke significantly decreased the frequency of locomotor activities and the time for which the mice remaining on the rotarod; however, a high smoke concentration significantly prolonged the pentobarbital-induced sleeping time and sleeping rate.CONCLUSION: The concentration-dependent relaxing effects of moxa smoke on the Central Nervous System(CNS) were confirmed. Moreover, GC-HS analysis showed that the component present in the highest concentration in moxa smoke was eucalyp-tol, an essential oil well recognized for its soothing effects on the CNS. | 2 | Accurate and precise determination of lead isotope composition in selected geochemical reference materials显示文摘Lead(Pb)isotopes have been extensively employed in tracing sources of Pb and its transport pathways through the environment.However,Pb isotopic ratios in related geochemical reference materials are scarce.Here,we report high-precision Pb isotopic ratios measured by Nu Plasma II MC-ICP-MS using calibrated ^(205)Tl/^(203)Tl=2.38865(NIST SRM 997)for mass discrimination correction.The long-term external precision(2SD)for NISTSRM 981 of Pb,BCR-2,and BHVO-2 are 0.31‰(n=105),0.42‰(n=11),and 0.25‰(n=5)for ^(208)Pb/ ^(206)Pb and 0.16‰,0.53‰,and 0.07‰for ^(206)Pb/ ^(207)Pb,both respectively,and their Pb isotopic ratios are in excellent agreement with the recommended values.Using this method,we report for the first time Pb isotopic compositions in shale SGR-1b(USGS);coal CLB-1(USGS);stream sediments GSD-17,-21,and-23(IGGE);soils GSS-12,-13,-14,-15,and-16(IGGE);plants GSV-1,-2,and-3(IGGE);and human hair GSH-1(IGGE). | Guangliang Wu Jian-Ming Zhu Decan Tan Guilin Han Lixing Zhang Kun Ren | 2017 | Acta Geochimica2017,36,3: | 3 |
| 3 | Repeated exposure to moxa-burning smoke: its acute and chronic toxicities in rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To assess toxicities of the air in Chi-nese medicine clinics polluted by moxa-burning smoke due to moxibustion-derived burning products(MBP).METHODS: Both acute and chronic toxicity studies were conducted. For the acute toxicity study, five groups of Wistar rats(n = 16/group, male: female =1∶1) were exposed to five different concentrations(95%, 90%, 85%, 80% and 75%, respectively) of MBP for 2 h. For the chronic toxicity study, another three groups of male rats(n = 21/group) were exposed to MBP in three concentrations(10%, 40%and 70%, respectively) and one control group exposed to clean air 20 min/d for 144 d. Routine examinations were performed and analyzed by analysis of variance and dose-response relationship.RESULTS: In the acute toxicity study, the number of dead rats in the 95%, 90%, 85%, 80% and 75%groups were 16, 13, 7, 6 and 3, respectively, with LD50 of 86.274% after or during the 2 h exposure.In the chronic toxicity study, MBP exposure induced a decline in activity of the rats. Rats in the10% group showed no signs of toxicity, while those in the 40% MBP group showed toxicity effects on the body weights(P < 0.05) and lung. Rats in the70% MBP group also presented with reversible damage in the blood coagulation system(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Exposure to 10% MBP, which is equivalent to 27.45 mg/m3, was under the critical threshold for male rats' safety. Exposure to MBP above that limit induced lung damage. | 5 | Platinum nanoparticles supported MoS2 nanosheet for simultaneous detection of dopamine and uric acid显示文摘Herein, platinum nanoparticles-decorated molybdenum disulfide(Pt NPs@MoS_2) nanocomposite has been synthesized via a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method, which was characterized by transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and powder X-ray diffraction(XRD). This MoS_2-based nanocomposite modified glass carbon electrode(Pt NPs@MoS_2/GCE) exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity toward dopamine(DA) and uric acid(UA) due to their synergistic effect. Two well-defined oxidation peaks of DA and UA were obtained at Pt NPs@MoS_2/GCE with a large peak separation of 160 m V(DA-UA), suggesting that the modified electrode could individually or simultaneously analyze DA and AA. Under the optimal conditions, the peak currents of DA and UA were linearly dependent on their concentrations in the range of 0.5–150 and 5–1000 mmol/L with detection limit of 0.17 and 0.98 mmol/L, respectively. The proposed MoS_2-based sensor can also be employed to examine DA and UA in real samples with satisfactory results. | 8 | An investigation of the influence of ground surface properties and shading on outdoor thermal comfort in a high-altitude residential area显示文摘Landscape elements in residential areas can effectively improve the outdoor thermal environment,with different outcomes depending on the climate conditions.This study explores how the ground surface and shading properties affect the outdoor thermal environment in a high-altitude plateau climate where few studies have been conducted.The measurements were conducted during summer and winter in a residential area in Lhasa,Tibet.Without natural shading such as trees,there is a positive correlation between Sky-view factor(SVF)and Physiological equivalent temperature(PET)during winter and a negative correlation during summer.When SVF exceeds 0.65 in summer,it may cause human discomfort.Compared to artificial shading such as a tensioned membrane,deciduous trees are superior at improving human comfort,as they can increase PET by 10.56℃ in winter and decrease it by 9.73℃ in summer.During summer,high-reflection water-permeable bricks can reduce the PET by 1.08℃,and lawns can reduce the mean rachation temperature(Tmrt)by 1.650C;however,the lawns may produce a microclimate with a high air temperature.The results from this paper can be used as a reference for landscape planning and design in residential areas in high-altitude cold-climate regions. | Lixing Chen Yingzi Zhang Jiaqin Han Xing Li | 2021 | Frontiers of Architectural Research2021,10,2: | 0 |

| 11 | Twelve-week study of moxa smoke: occupational exposure in female rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To assess the toxicity of moxa smoke in rats.METHODS: Forty-eight female Wister rats were randomly divided into 4 groups(n = 12/group) to simulate moxa smoke exposure in Chinese medicine clinics(CMCs): the control group, and three moxa-smoke exposed groups of PM10 mass concentrations 3-5, 7-9 and 27-30 mg/m^3, respectively.These concentrations were 1 ×, 2-3 ×, and 7-9 ×fold the concentrations found in CMCs. Exposures continued for 12 weeks(200 min/d, 5 d/week).RESULTS: No deaths were noted. After the exposure, the body weights, ratios of organ weight to body weight, urinary parameters, hematological parameters, clinical chemistry parameters and microscopic examinations revealed no obvious toxicity.CONCLUSION: Moxa smoke did not induce toxic effects in female rats in the study.
