| 1 | Report on Childhood Obesity in China (9): Sugar-sweetened Beverages Consumption and Obesity显示文摘Objective To explore the associations between sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption and obesity as well as obesity-related cardiometabolic disorders among children in China. Methods A total of 6974 (boys 3558, girls 3412) children aged 6-13 years participated in the study. Each participant's height, weight, waist circumference, fasting glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, high- density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were measured. The type of beverage consumption was determined using a self-administered questionnaire. Results SSBs were consumed regularly by 46.1% of the children. The prevalence [adjusted odds ratio (95% confidence internal (CI)] of obesity was 7.6% [as the reference group (ref.)], 10.1% [1.36(1.07, 1.74)], and 11.6% [1.46(1.21, 1.75)], among children who regularly drank milk, other beverages and SSBs, respectively. Regularly drinking SSBs elevated the likelihood of abdominal obesity [adjusted odds ratio (95% CI): 1.36 (1.17, 1.59)]. The prevalence [adjusted odds ratio (95% CI)] of obesity among children who regularly drank sports/caloric beverages, carbonated beverages, sweet tea, and plant protein beverages was 16.8% [2.00(1.31, 3.07)], 12.7% [1.52(1.23, 1.88)], 11.5% [1.52(1.18, 1.95)], and 10.4% [1.41(1.03, 1.94)], respectively, which was higher than that of regular milk drinkers [7.6 % (ref.)]. The prevalence [adjusted odds ratio (95% CI)] of abdominal obesity among children who regularly drank sweet tea, fruit/vegetable juices, and carbonated beverages was 17.7% [1.55(1.26, 1.90)], 16.2% [1.36(1.09, 1.70)], and 15.3% [1.24(1.03, 1.50)], respectively, which was much higher than that of regular milk drinkers [12.8% (ref.)]. Conclusions Regular SSB consumption was positively related to obesity and abdominal obesity. | 2 | Report on Childhood Obesity in China (10): Association of Sleep Duration with Obesity显示文摘Objectives To explore the association of sleep duration with obesity among children in urban areas of China.Methods A total of 6 576 children(3 293 boys and 3 283 girls) aged 7-11 years were randomly selected from 36 primary schools in 6 metropolitan cities in China.A 7-day Physical Activity Recall was used to assess the sleep duration and physical activity level.The height,weight,waist circumference(WC) and percentage of body fat(%BF,as determined by bioelectrical impedance analysis technique) were measured by following the standardized operation procedures.The information on demography,lifestyle and eating habits was collected with a self-administered questionnaire from participants and their parents.Results The average sleep duration per night in the children was 9.7 h with the decreasing trends along with the increase of age(P<0.05).The sleep duration was negatively associated with body mass index(BMI) and WC in both boys and girls after adjustment for confounders(β value-0.23 and-0.82 for boys,-0.24 and-0.91 for girls,respectively,P<0.01).However,no significant association of sleep duration with %BF was found.Children who slept less than 9.0 h per night had a higher risk for overweight and obesity(OR=1.29,95% CI:1.01,1.64) and abdominal obesity(OR=1.38,95% CI:1.04,1.83) as compared with those who slept for 10.0-10.9 h.Conclusions Short sleep duration is associated with obesity.It is important to ensure adequate sleep duration of children and foster their healthy lifestyle at an early stage of life. | MENG Li Ping LIUAi Ling HU Xiao Qi ZHANG Qian DU Song Ming FANG Hong Yun MA Jun XU Gui Fa LI Ying GUO Hong Wei DU Lin MA Guan Sheng | 2012 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,2: | 16 |

| 6 | Effects of anisotropy on time-depth relation in transversely isotropic medium with a vertical axis of symmetry显示文摘It is known that rock anisotropy can significantly influence the phase and energy velocities of an elastic wave,as well as its reflection/transmission(R/T)coefficients.As a result,it can distort the velocity analysis of seismic-reflection data.In this work we present a velocity analysis for seismic-reflection data based on the available anisotropic rock parameters.We analyzed the created errors on time-depth relation of the seismic-reflection data in neglecting rock anisotropy and/or neglecting the difference between energy velocity and phase velocity,including the case of wide-angle reflection.The calculated results show that the effect of rock anisotropy on time-depth relation of seismic-reflection data is dependent not only on the values of anisotropic parameters,but also on the space arrangement of both source and receiver-array.For all studied cases(weak,moderate or strong anisotropy),we found that the effect of rock anisotropy on time-depth relation could not be neglected.Nevertheless,for the case of weak anisotropy,the energy velocity may be replaceable by the phase velocity to obtain a very good approximation on time-depth relation.Consequently,the seismic-reflection data processing algorithm for numerical computations can be simplified. | FA Lin CASTAGNA John P ZENG ZhengWen BROWN Ray L ZHAO MeiShan | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,21: | 9 |
| 7 | Alterations to biological soil crusts with alpine meadow retrogressive succession affect seeds germination of three plant species显示文摘Biological soil crusts(BSCs) are the important components of alpine meadow ecosystems.The extent and morphology of BSCs vary greatly with alpine meadow retrogressive succession due to grazing pressure.There is significant interest in impacts of crust composition on plant seed germination,especial l y in(semi-) arid environments.However,little is known about the influences of BSCs,and their associations with alpine meadow succession,on germination of typical alpine meadow vascular plant species.In a full factorial common-gardenexperiment,we studied effects of:(1) crust type,(2) seed position,and(3) surface texture on seed germination.We chose three typical alpine meadow plant species(i.e.Poa pratensis,Tibetia himalaica and Potentillen nivea),which belonged to different functional groups(graminoids,legumes,and forbs) and play important roles in all alpine meadow succession stages.Crust type and seed position influenced seed germination,and the inhibitory effects of BSCs depended on the crust type and seed species tested.The major factors influencing seed germination were BSC type,seed position,soil texture,and the interactions between BSC type and seed position; species and seed position; species andsurface texture; and species,crust type,and surface texture.Cyanobacteria crust significantly inhibited germination of all seeds.Seed position also had a significant effect on seed germination(p < 0.001).Fewer seedlings germinated on the surface than below the surface,this was especially true for P.nivea.seeds within cyanobacteria and lichen crusts.Only germination rates of T.himalaica on the soil surface were significantly correlated with plant occurrence frequency within the alpine meadow community.The poor correlation for the other two species is possibly that they are perennials.Our results clearly demonstrated that BSCs can be biological filters during seed germination,depending on the BSC succession stage.Through their influences on seed germination,BSCs can strongly influence community assemblages throughout alpine meadow retrogressive succession. | LI Yi-kang OUYANG Jing-zheng LIN Li XU Xing-liang ZHANG Fa-wei DU Yan-gong LIU Shu-li CAO Guang-min HAN Fa | 2016 | Journal of Mountain Science2016,13,11: | 7 |

| 14 | Polarization of plane wave propagating inside elastic hexagonal system solids显示文摘Based on the reported physical parameters for hexagonal system solids,we have calculated the effects of anisotropy on polarization of plane P-wave propagation.Herein we report the results of calculations and the newly observed physical phenomena.It is found that,for a given propagation,if the polarization is parallel to the wave vector,so also to the Poynting vector.In such a case,the phase velocity is identical to the energy velocity;the quasi P-wave degenerates to a pure P-wave along the propagation.It is also noted that if the polarization is parallel to the Poynting vector but not to the wave vector,the propagating wave cannot be a pure P-wave.Furthermore,the polarization in a quasi P-wave may deviate from the wave vector for more than 45°,but the deviation from the Poynting vector is always less than 45°.The energy velocity of a quasi SV-wave can be larger than that of the quasi P-wave in some propagation directions,even though the phase velocity of a quasi SV-wave may never be larger than either the phase velocity or energy velocity of the quasi P-wave.Finally,in case of parameters ε=0 and δ*≠0,the polarization of a quasi P-wave has an observed symmetry at a 45°phase angle.The anisotropy of a hexagonal system solid determines if a pure P-wave can be created and what the propagation direction is for a plane wave propagating inside such a hexagonal system solid. | FA Lin ZHAO MeiShan LIU YongChang WANG Lei WANG YanQiang SUN JiGang | 2014 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2014,57,2: | 2 |
| 15 | Effects of electric-acoustic and acoustic-electric conversions of transducers on acoustic logging signal显示文摘Based on an acoustic logging transmission network and the engineering pattern of a sliding wave in acoustic logging, analysis and calculations have been performed in a study of the effects of the electric-acoustic and acoustic-electric conversions of the transducers on the acoustic logging signal. The results show that acoustic-electric conversion through the transducer can cause not only a serious disturbance in the signal amplitude, but also an apparent transmission delay. For engineering applications, the amplitude variation and transmission delay must be accounted for in a practical analysis of the acoustic logging signal in rocks.
