| 1 | Synthesis of Porous NiO Nanocrystals with Controllable Surface Area and Their Application as Supercapacitor Electrodes显示文摘We report a facile way to grow various porous NiO nanostructures including nanoslices,nanoplates,and nanocolumns,which show a structure-dependence in their specific charge capacitances.The formation of controllable porosity is due to the dehydration and re-crystallization of β-Ni(OH)_(2) nanoplates synthesized by a hydrothermal process.Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the decomposition temperature of the β-Ni(OH)_(2) nanostructures is related to their morphology.In electrochemical tests,the porous NiO nanostructures show stable cycling performance with retention of specific capacitance over 1000 cycles.Interestingly,the formation of nanocolumns by the stacking of β-Ni(OH)_(2) nanoslices/plates favors the creation of small pores in the NiO nanocrystals obtained after annealing,and the surface area is over five times larger than that of NiO nanoslices and nanoplates.Consequently,the specific capacitance of the porous NiO nanocolumns(390 F/g)is significantly higher than that of the nanoslices(176 F/g)or nanoplates(285 F/g)at a discharge current of 5 A/g.This approach provides a clear illustration of the process-structure-property relationship in nanocrystal synthesis and potentially offers strategies to enhance the performance of supercapacitor electrodes. | Xiaojun Zhang Wenhui Shi Jixin Zhu Weiyun Zhao Jan Ma Subodh Mhaisalkar Tuti Lim Maria Yanhui Yang Hua Zhang Huey Hoon Hng Qingyu Yan | 2010 | Nano Research2010,3,9: | 24 |

| 3 | Association of C(-106)T Polymorphism in Aldose Reductase Gene with Diabetic Retinopathy in Chinese Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus显示文摘Objective To identify the possible association between C(-106)T polymorphism of the aldose reductase(ALR) gene and diabetic retinopathy(DR) in a cohort of Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods From November 2009 to September 2010,patients with T2DM were recruited and assigned to DR group or diabetic without retinopathy(DWR) group according to the duration of diabetes and the grading of 7-field fundus color photographs of both eyes.Genotypes of the C(-106)T polymorphism(rs759853) in ALR gene were analyzed using the MassARRAY genotyping system and an association study was performed.Results A total of 268 T2DM patients(129 in the DR group and 139 in the DWR group) were included in this study.No statistically significant differences were observed between the 2 groups in the age of diabetes onset(P=0.10) and gender(P=0.78).The success rate of genotyping for the study subjects was 99.6%(267/268),with one case of failure in the DR group.The frequencies of the T allele in the C(-106)T polymorphism were 16.0%(41/256) in the DR group and 19.4%(54/278) in the DWR group(P=0.36).There was no significant difference in the C(-106)T genotypes between the 2 groups(P=0.40).Compared with the wild-type genotype,odds ratio(OR) for the risk of DR was 0.7(95% CI,0.38-1.3) for the heterozygous CT genotype and 0.76(95% CI,0.18-3.25) for the homozygous TT genotype.The risk of DR was positively associated with microalbuminuria(OR=4.61;95% CI,2.34-9.05) and insulin therapy(OR=3.43;95% CI,1.94-6.09).Conclusions Microalbuminuria and insulin therapy are associated with the risk of DR in Chinese patients with T2DM.C(-106)T polymorphism of the ALR gene may not be significantly associated with DR in Chinese patients with T2DM. | Yu Deng Xiu-fen Yang Hong Gu Apiradee Lim Munkhtulga Ulziibat Torkel Snellingen Jun Xu Kai Ma Ning-pu Liu | 2014 | Chinese Medical Sciences Journal2014,29,1: | 4 |
| 4 | Amnion epithelial cells——a novel therapy for ischemic stroke?显示文摘Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability and new therapies are desperately needed. Given the complex nature of ischemic brain injury, it has been postulated that cell-based therapies may be useful. However, cell resources, invasive extraction procedures, immunological rejection, tumorigenesis and ethical challenges make it unlikely that many stem cell types could serve as a practical source for therapy. By contrast, these issues do not pertain to human amnion epithelial cells(h AECs), which are placenta-derived stem cells. We recently assessed the effects of systemically delivered hAECs on stroke outcome using four animal models of stroke. We demonstrated that when injected intravenously after ischemia onset, hAECs migrate preferentially to the spleen and injured brain to limit apoptosis and inflammation, and attenuate early brain infiltration of immune cells, progression of infarction and systemic immunosuppression and to ultimately ameliorate functional deficits. When administration of hAECs is delayed by 1-3 days poststroke, long-term functional recovery can still be enhanced in young and aged mice of either sex. Moreover, our proof-of-principle findings suggest that h AECs are effective at limiting post-stroke infarct development in non-human primates.
