| 1 | Characterizing spatial distribution and sources of heavy metals in the soils from mining-smelting activities in Shuikoushan,Hunan Province,China显示文摘The spatial variation of heavy metals in the soils in Shuikoushan mining-smelting area,Hunan Province,China,was investigated using multivariate and geo-statistic analysis.A total of 106 composite soil samples were collected in an area of about 100 km2. Concentrations of total As,Cd,Pb,Zn,Cu and Cr were measured using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS) . Arsenic and Pb were found to have a common source,indicating the same sources and spreading processes,such as aerosols and airborne particulates from smelting chimneys.Airborne sources from smelting chimneys contributed greatly to Cd in the area,which demonstrated the same dispersion pattern as As and Pb.However,two hot spots of Cd around smelters were possibly enlarged by wastewaters,demonstrating another important source of Cd in Shuikouhsan.Geo-statistic interpolated mapping demonstrated that hotspots of Zn were only found proximal to the large smelters,suggesting that Zn primarily came from the chimneys of larger smelters. The major Cu hot-spots appeared closely to the tailing dam,indicating that weathering and leaching of tailings were the major sources of Cu contamination in Shuikoushan.Our findings indicated that airborne volatile particles and aerosols contributed the most to As,Cd,Pb,Zn and Cu contamination,while Cd and Cu may also derive from the discharge of wastewater from smelters and the leaching of tailings,respectively. | WEI Chaoyang WANG Cheng YANG Linsheng | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,9: | 48 |
| 2 | Microbial treatment in chronic constipation显示文摘Chronic functional constipation is a kind of common intestinal disease that occurs in children, adults and elderly people. This disease not only causes great influence to physiological function, but also results in varying degrees of psychological barriers. At present, constipation treatments continue to rely on traditional methods such as purgative therapy and surgery. However, these approaches can disrupt intestinal function. Recent research between intestinal diseases and gut microbiota has gradually revealed a connection between constipation and intestinal flora disturbance, providing a theoretical basis for microbial treatment in chronic constipation. Microbial treatment mainly includes probiotic preparations such as probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics and fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT). Due to its safety, convenience and curative effect, probiotic preparations have been widely accepted, especially gradually developed FMT with higher curative effects. Microbial treatment improves clinical symptoms, promotes the recovery of intestinal flora, and has no complications during the treatment process. | 3 | Impacts of the Wenchuan Earthquake on the Giant Panda Nature Reserves in China显示文摘The Wenchuan Earthquake that occurred in May of 2008 caused damages to large areas of Sichuan,Gansu,and Shaanxi provinces in China.Reports from local governments and related management agencies show that the giant panda nature reserves in the earthquake-hit areas were heavily damaged.Our estimates in this paper of the impacts of the earthquake on the giant panda in the earthquake-hit areas were made based on the interpretation of remote sensing images and information collected by field survey.A rapid assessment method was designed to estimate the damages of the earthquake on giant panda habitats.By using visual interpretation methods,we decoded the remote sensing images of the disaster area in the 49 giant panda nature reserves.Research results showed that the Wenchuan Earthquake and the succeeding secondary geological disasters caused great damages to the giant panda nature reserves and disturbed the normal life of the giant pandas there (e.g.,landscape fragmentation increased significantly).Undoubtedly,the life of the giant pandas there was affected.However,although the earthquake caused certain impacts on the giant pandas,it did not really threat their survival.Even so,we still strongly advocate for protection of the giant pandas,and have prioritized a couple of measures to be taken to restore the giant panda nature reserves in the earthquake-hit areas. | DENG Xiangzheng JIANG Qunou GE Quansheng YANG LinSheng | 2010 | Journal of Mountain Science2010,7,2: | 11 |

| 5 | Dysbiosis of gut microbiota was closely associated with psoriasis显示文摘Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease and gut microbiota participate in the establishment of intestinal immunity. This study was performed to identify the fecal microbial composition of psoriasis patients, and investigated the influence of subgroup(type and severity) on the fecal microbial composition, and to define the key microbiota in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. Fecal samples from 35 psoriasis patients and 27 healthy controls were sequenced by 16 S rRNA and then analyzed by informatics methods. We found that the microbiota of the psoriasis group differed from that of the heathy group. The relative abundances of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes were inverted at the phylum level, and 16 kinds of phylotype at the genus level were found with significant difference. No microbial diversity and composition alteration were observed among the four types of psoriasis. The microbiota of psoriasis patients in the severe state differs from those of psoriasis patients with more mild conditions and also the healthy controls. The veillonella in fecal microbiota showed a positive relationship with h-CRP in blood. This research proved that psoriasis patients have a significant disturbed microbiota profiles. | 6 | Ketogenic diet alleviates colitis by reduction of colonic group 3 innate lymphoid cells through altering gut microbiome显示文摘Accumulating evidence suggests that ketogenic diets(KDs)mediate the rise of circulating ketone bodies and exert a potential antiinflammatory effect;however,the consequences of this unique diet on colitis remain unknown.We performed a series of systematic studies using a dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)animal model of inflammatory colitis.Animals were fed with a KD,low-carbohydrate diet(LCD),or normal diet(ND).Germ-free mice were utilized in validation experiments.Colon tissues were analyzed by transcriptome sequencing,RT2 profiler PCR array,histopathology,and immunofluorescence.Serum samples were analyzed by metabolic assay kit.Fecal samples were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing,liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.We observed that KD alleviated colitis by altering the gut microbiota and metabolites in a manner distinct from LCD.Quantitative diet experiments confirmed the unique impact of KD relative to LCD with a reproducible increase in Akkermansia,whereas the opposite was observed for Escherichia/Shigella.After colitis induction,the KD protected intestinal barrier function,and reduced the production of R0Ryt+CD3_group 3 innate lymphoid cells(ILC3s)and related inflammatory cytokines(IL-17a,IL-18,IL-22,Ccl4).Finally,fecal microbiota transplantation into germ-free mice revealed that the KD-mediated colitis inhibition and ILC3 regulation were dependent on the modification of gut microbiota.Taken together,our study presents a global view of microbiome-metabolomics changes that occur during KD colitis treatment,and identifies the regulation of gut microbiome and ILC3s as novel targets involving in IBD dietary therapy. | Cheng Kong Xuebing Yan Yongqiang Liu Linsheng Huang Yefei Zhu Jide He Renyuan Gao Matthew F.Kalady Ajay Goel Huanlong Qin Yanlei Ma | 2021 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,5: | 8 |
| 7 | Evaluation of earthquake-induced structural damages by wavelet transform显示文摘The dynamic behavior of inelastic structures during an earthquake is a complicated non-stationary process that is affected by the ran- dom characteristics of seismic ground motions. The conventional Fourier analysis describes the feature of a dynamic process by decom- posing the signal into infinitely long sine and cosine series, which loses all time-located information. However, both time and frequency localizations are necessary for the analysis of an evolutionary spectrum of non-stationary processes. In this paper, an analytical approach for seismic ground motions is developed by applying the wavelet transform, which focuses on the energy input to the structure. The procedure of identification of the instantaneous modal parameters based on the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) is given in detail. And then, a novel method using the auto-regressive moving average (ARMA), called ''prediction extension', is presented to remedy the edge effect during the numerical computation of the CWT. The effectiveness of the method is verified by the use of the benchmark model developed by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Finally, a scale model with three-storey reinforced concrete frame-share wall structure is made and tested on a shaking table to investigate the relation between the dynamic properties of structures and energy accumulation and its change rates during the earthquake. | 8 | Alterations in intestinal microbiota of colorectal cancer patients receiving radical surgery combined with adjuvant CapeOx therapy显示文摘An intricate relationship exists and interactions occur between gut microbiota and colorectal cancer(CRC).Radical surgery combined with adjuvant chemotherapy(AC) serves as the mainstream therapeutic scheme for most CRC patients.The current research was conducted to assess the effect of surgery or chemotherapy on gut microbiota.Forty-three CRC patients who received radical surgery and AC were enrolled.Fecal samples were collected preoperatively,postoperatively,and after the first to fifth cycles of postoperative chemotherapy.The microbial community of each sample was analyzed using high throughput 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing.Compared with preoperative samples,fecal samples collected postoperatively exhibited a significant decrease of obligate anaerobes,tumor-related bacteria,and butyric acid-producing bacteria.However,a significant increase of some conditional pathogens was observed.In addition,the AC regimen(CapeOx) was found to alter intestinal microbiota dramatically.In particular,several changes were observed after chemotherapy including an increase of pathogenic bacteria,the 'rebound effect' of chemotherapy-adapted bacteria,the shift of lactate-utilizing microbiota from Veillonella to Butyricimonas and Butyricicoccus,as well as the decrease of probiotics.Both radical surgery and CapeOx chemotherapy exert a non-negligible effect on the gut microbiota of CRC patients.Microbiota-based intervention may be beneficial for patients during postoperative clinical management. | Cheng Kong Renyuan Gao Xuebing Yan Linsheng Huang Jide He Hao Li Jie You Huanlong Qin | 2019 | Science China(Life Sciences)2019,62,9: | 7 |
| 9 | Distribution of T-DNA carrying a Ds element on rice chromosomes显示文摘Over 3000 rice plants with T-DNA carrying a Ds element were constructed by Agro-bacterium tumefaciens mediation. Using inverse PCR methodology, 590 unique right flanking sequences of T-DNA (Ds) were retrieved from independent transformants and classified into six main types on the basis of the origin of filler DNA between the right border of T-DNA and flanking sequence of rice genome. Type I sequences were the most common and showed canonical in-tegration that T-DNA right border was followed by rice genome sequence with or without filler DNA of no more than 50 bp, while type II sequences displayed a vector-genome combination that T-DNA right border was followed by a vector fragment and then connected with rice genome sequence. The location and distribution of 340 type I and II flanking sequences on the rice chromosome were determined using BLAST analysis. The 340 Ds insertions at an average in-terval of 0.8 megabase (Mb) constructed a basic framework of Ds starter points on whole rice chromosomes. The frequency of T-DNA (Ds) inserted into the exons of predicted genes on chromosome one was 21%. | 10 | Development of Triticum aestivum-Leymus racemosus ditelosomic substitution line 7Lr#1S(7A) with resistance to wheat scab and its meiotic behavior analysis显示文摘Leymus racemosus is highly resistant to wheat scab (Fusarum head bright). The transfer of scab resistant gene from L. racemosus to Triticum aestivum is of great significance for broadening the base of wheat resistance. In the present study, the pollen of T. aestivum-L. racemosus monosomic addition line with scab resistance was treated by irradiation with 1200 R 60Co-γ-rays prior to pollinating to emasculated wheat cv. Mianyang 85-45. Nine plants with a telocentric chromosome 7Lr#1S were observed in M1, and one ditelosomic substitution line 7Lr#1S was selected from selfcrossing progenies and confirmed by chromosome C-banding and GISH. Furthermore, a co-dominant EST-SSR marker CINAU 31 was employed to identify this substitution line. A pair of chromosome 7A of common wheat were found to be replaced by a pair of telocentric chromosome 7Lr#1S, and further investigation showed that chromosome configuration of the substitution line at MI of PMCs after GISH was 17.50○II W + 2.19 IIW + 0.42II7Lr#1S + 1.08 I7Lr#1S + 0.69 IW. Two telocentric chromosomes paired as a bivalent in 59.7% of PMCs. Abnormal chromosome behaviors of telocentric chromosomes were observed in part of PMCs at anaphase I and telophase I, including the moving of two telocentric chromosomes to the same pole, lagging and earlier separation of their sister chromatid. All these abnormal behaviors can be grouped into three distinct types of tetrads according to different numbers of 7Lr#1S in their daughter cells and various micronucleus in some tetrads. However, due to the high transmission frequency of the female and male gametes with a 7Lr#1S, 84% of the selfcrossing progeny plants had ditelosomic substitution. | 12 | Molecular cytogenetic analysis of Triticum aestivum-Leymus racemosus reciprocal chromosomal translocation T7DS·5LrL/T5LrS·7DL显示文摘In order to induce chromosome translocation between wheat chromosomes and chromosome 5Lr of Leymus racemosus, the mi- crosporocytes during meiosis of T. aestivum-L. racemosus disomic addition line DA5Lr were irradiated by 60Co γ-rays 800 R (100 R/min). Before flowering, the treated spikes were emasculated and bagged. After 2-3 d, the emasculated flowerets were pollinated using pollens from T. aestivum cv. Chinese Spring. One plant with two translocation chromosomes involved in both the long and short arm of 5Lr was detected in the M1 by GISH. The plant was crossed with line DA5Lr, and its progenies with one 5Lr and two translocation chromosomes were analyzed for chromosome pairing behavior in their pollen mother cells (PMCs). A cross-shaped configuration at diplonema and Z-shaped or ring-shaped quadrivalent configuration at metaphase I were observed, indicating that the two translocation chromosomes were reciprocal translocation. Chromosome C-banding indicated that the wheat chromosomes involved in the reciprocal translocation belonged to A- or D-genome. Fluorescence in situ hybridization using pSc119.2 and pAs1 as the probe found that only pAs1 signals were present in the wheat chromosome segments of the two translocation chromosomes. Combining these results, the reciprocal chromosomal translocation was designated as T7DS·5LrL/5LrS·7DL. The two transloca- tion chromosomes were found to be transmitted together in the gametes of heterozygous reciprocal translocation plants with the transmission ratios of 59.4% in the female gametes and 83.9% in the male gametes, revealing preferential pollen transmission. In the self-fertilized progenies of the heterozygous reciprocal translocation, a line with the homozygous translocation line with a pair of translocation chromosome T7DS·5LrL was identified.
