1Antidiabetic and in vitro antioxidant potential of Hybanthus enneaspermus(Linn) F.Muell in streptozotocin—induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate antidiabetic and antioxidant potential of Hybanthus enneaspermus in different models.Methods:The oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) and normoglycemic effect of alcoholic extract of Hybanthus enneaspermus(AHE) were evaluated at a dose of 125,250 and 500mg/kg p.o.while hypoglycemic activity and effect on body weight were tested at 250 and 500 mg/kg p.o.per day for 21 days in Streptozotocin(STZ) induced diabetic rats.Further,glucose uptake by hemidiaphram was also evaluated.The total polyphenolic and flavonoid were determined and their correlation with various antioxidant assays was also determined.Results:The results showed high level of phenolic content in AHE.AHE also exhibited higher total antioxidant capacity,good reducing power and a significant scavenger of reactive oxygen species like DPPH radical,nitric oxide,hydrogen peroxide and deoxyribose.Furthermore there was a significant increase in the body weight and decrease in the blood glucose level on treatment with the AHE.AHE increased glucose uptake on isolated rat hemi-diaphragm compared to control group.Conclusions:AHE reduce blood glucose level in STZ-induced diabetic model.It does not show significant effect in normoglycemic study but showes significant effect in OGT.AHE has significant antioxidant activity,which may be attributed to high phenolic content.Patel DK Kumar R Prasad SK Sairam K Hemalatha S 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,4:22
2A review on medicinal importance,pharmacological activity and bioanalytical aspects of beta-carboline alkaloid 'Harmine'显示文摘Harmine,a beta-carboline alkaloid,is widely distributed in the plants,marine creatures,insects, mammalians as well as in human tissues and body fluids.Harmine was originally isolated from seeds of Peganum harmal in 1847 having a core indole structure and a pyridine ring.Harmine has various types of pharmacological activities such as antimicrobial,antifungal,antitumor,cytotoxic, antiplasmodial,antioxidaant,antimutagenic,antigenotoxic and hallucinogenic properties.It acts on gamma-aminobutyric acid type A and monoamine oxidase A or B receptor,enhances insulin sensitivity and also produces vasorelaxant effect.Harmine prevents bone loss by suppressing osteoclastogenesis.The current review gives an overview on pharmacological activity and analytical techniques of harmine,which may be useful for researcheres to explore the hidden potential of harmine and and will also help in developing new drugs for the treatment of various diseases.K Patel M Gadewar R Tripathi SK Prasad Dinesh Kumar Patel 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,8:17
3An overview on antidiabetic medicinal plants having insulin mimetic property显示文摘Diabetes mellitus is one of the common metabolic disorders acquiring around 2.8%of the world's population and is anticipated to cross 5.4%by the year 2025.Since long back herbal medicines have been the highly esteemed source of medicine therefore,they have become a growing part of modern,high-tech medicine.In view of the above aspects the present review provides profiles of plants(65 species) with hypoglycaemic properties,available through literature source from various database with proper categorization according to the parts used,mode of reduction in blood glucose(insulinomimetic or insulin secretagugues activity) and active phyloconsliluents having insulin mimetics activity.From the review it was suggested that,plant showing hypoglycemic potential mainly belongs to the family Leguminoseae,Lamiaceae,Liliaceae,Cucurbitaceae, Asteraceae,Moraceae,Rosaceae and Araliaceae.The most active plants are Allium sativum. Gymnema sylvestre,Citrullus colocynthis,Trigonella foenum greacum,Momordica charantia and Ficuts bengalensis.The review describes some new bioactive drugs and isolated compounds from plants such as roseoside,epigallocatechin gallate,beta-pyrazol-1-ylalanine,cinchonain Ib,leucocyandin 3-O-beta-d-galactosyl cellobioside,leucopelargonidin-3- O-alpha-L rhamuoside,glycyrrhetinic acid,dehydrotrametenolic acid,strictinin,isostrictinin,pedunculagin, epicatechin and christinin-A showing significant insulinomimetic and antidiabetic activity with more efficacy than conventional hypoglycaemic agents.Thus,from the review majorly,the antidiabetic activity of medicinal plants is attributed to the presence of polyphenols,flavonoida, terpenoids,coumarins and other constituents which show reduction in blood glucose levels.The review also discusses the management aspect of diabetes mellitus using these plants and their active principles.Patel DK Prasad SK Kumar R Hemalatha S 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,4:15
4Pedalium murex Linn(Pedaliaceae) fruits:a comparative antioxidant activity of its different fractions显示文摘Objective:To examine the antioxidant activity and total phenolic content of different solvent fractions of Pedulium murex(P.murex)Linn fruits(Family:Pedaliaceae)as well as the correlation between the total antioxidant capacity and total phenolic content.Methods:In the present study,the antioxidant activities of P.murex were evaluated using six in-vitro assays,namely total antioxidant assay,DPPH assay,reducing power,nitric oxide scavenging,hydrogen peroxide scavenging and deoxyribose scavenging assays,and total phenol contents were also investigated.Results:The ethyl acetate(EA)fraction was found to have high levels of phenolic content(298.72±2.09 mg GAE/g).The EA fraction exhibit higher total antioxidant capacity,higher percentage of DPPH radical scavenging activity(135.11±2.95μg/mL),nitric oxide(200.57±4.5lμg/mL),hydrogen peroxide(2I7.91±6.12μg/mL),deoxyribose(250.01±4.68μg/mL)and higher reducing power.Correlation coefficient(r^2=0.914)was found to be significant between total phenolic content and total antioxidant activity.Conclusions:In general,the results indicate that the EA fractions are rich in phenolic antioxidants with potent free radical scavenging activity implying their importance to human health.DK Patel R Kumar SK Prasad S Hemalatha 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,5:12

6Myanmar-Andaman-Sumatra Subduction Margin Revisited:Insights of Arc-Specific Deformations显示文摘We address the role of the concave and convex arcs(as observed from the subducting plate)on the deformation occurring along the Myanmar-Andaman-Sumatra margin.We categorize the pre-and post-seismic deformations of the lithosphere using earthquake database occurring either prior to 26th December 2004 M_w 9.3 off-Sumatra mega-event or after the incidence.Analysis under pre-seismic domain shows that area near Sumatra records highest seismicity,which largely drops in the area past the North Andaman,and further increases towards north.Shallowest depth and minimum dip of the subducting lithosphere is recorded at the central segment where the arc transformed into concave shape.The annual moment energy release during earthquake decreases to more than two orders of magnitude past the North Andaman towards north under post-seismic deformation phase.Higher depths of continuity of events are presumably associated with more dipping Benioff zones in both the Indo-Myanmar and Andaman-Nicobar convex arcs.These observations obviously account for tectonic subdivision of the margin near concave shape arc around the central part.Absence of volcanism,presence of splay faults in the back-arc,sharp reduction in seismicity near central segment are interpreted to be caused by major tectonic impact of the NNE-ward converging buoyant Ninety-east Ridge against the Asian Plate.Shallowest dip,small elastic thickness,weak converging Indian lithosphere,and evidences of series of en-echelon blocks off the eastern side of the broken northern Ninetyeast Ridge might be incapable of generating great earthquake in this area.Prosanta Kumar Khan Sk Shamim Manoranjan Mohanty Prabhat Kumar Jayashree Banerjee 2017Journal of Earth Science2017,28,4:4
7Synthesis and evaluation of novel analogues of mangiferin as potent antipyretic显示文摘Objective:To screen different analogues of mangiferin pharmacologically for antipyretic activity. Methods:The naturally occurring xanthone glycoside mangiferin was isolated by column chromatography from the elhanolic extract of stem bark of Mangifera indica.Mangiferin was further converted to 5-(N-phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin.5-(N-p-chlorophenylamino methyleno) mangiferin,5-(N-2-methyl phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin.5-(N-p-methoxy phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin.5-(N,N-diphenylamino methyleno) mangiferin,5-(N-α-napthylamino methyleno) mangiferin and 5-(N-4-methyl phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin analogues.The synthesized compounds were further screened for antipyretic activity along with mangiferin at a dose level of 100 and 200 tng/kg.Mangiferin and its analogues were characterized by melting point and R_f value determination and through spectral technique like UV,IR,and NMR spectral analysis.Results:The antipyretic activity of mangiferin as well as all analogues was found to be more significant in at higher dose ie.200 mg/kg which was depicted thmugh a decrease in rectal temperature up to 3 h.Conclusions:The antipyretic activity of mangiferin and its analogues may be attributed to inhibition in synthesis of TNF-αand anti-oxidant activity associated with amelioration of inflammatory actions of cytokines.Shashi Kant Singh Saurabh K Sinha SK Prasad R Kumar Bhawani S Bithu S Sadish Kumar P Singh 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,11:4
8Revealing Genetic Relationship and Prospecting of Novel Donors Among Upland Rice Genotypes Using qDTY-Linked SSR Markers显示文摘A total of 17 simple sequence repeat(SSR) markers linked to QTLs(qDTYs) governing grain yield under reproductive stage(RS) drought stress were used to assess the genetic relationship and prospecting new donors for q DTYs among 32 popular upland rice genotypes. These SSR markers generated a total of 36 alleles with an average allele count of 2.1 per locus. Polymorphic information content value of the markers ranged from 0.376 to 0.662 with an average value of 0.484. The expected heterozyogosity ranged from 0.381 to 0.632. STRUCTURE analysis divided the 32 genotypes into three sub-populations. Subsequent phenotyping revealed that all the tolerant genotypes were grouped into one sub-population, whereas the moderately tolerant and susceptible genotypes were grouped into separate sub-populations. Phylogenetic tree constructed by the unweighted neighbour-joining method also divided the genotypes into three clusters. The grouping pattern of genotypes into the clusters was similar to that into the STRUCTURE analysis, on the basis of drought tolerance level. The average value of genetic dissimilarity coefficient among the genotypes was observed to be 0.486.
