| 2 | Antidiabetic and in vitro antioxidant potential of Hybanthus enneaspermus(Linn) F.Muell in streptozotocin—induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate antidiabetic and antioxidant potential of Hybanthus enneaspermus in different models.Methods:The oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) and normoglycemic effect of alcoholic extract of Hybanthus enneaspermus(AHE) were evaluated at a dose of 125,250 and 500mg/kg p.o.while hypoglycemic activity and effect on body weight were tested at 250 and 500 mg/kg p.o.per day for 21 days in Streptozotocin(STZ) induced diabetic rats.Further,glucose uptake by hemidiaphram was also evaluated.The total polyphenolic and flavonoid were determined and their correlation with various antioxidant assays was also determined.Results:The results showed high level of phenolic content in AHE.AHE also exhibited higher total antioxidant capacity,good reducing power and a significant scavenger of reactive oxygen species like DPPH radical,nitric oxide,hydrogen peroxide and deoxyribose.Furthermore there was a significant increase in the body weight and decrease in the blood glucose level on treatment with the AHE.AHE increased glucose uptake on isolated rat hemi-diaphragm compared to control group.Conclusions:AHE reduce blood glucose level in STZ-induced diabetic model.It does not show significant effect in normoglycemic study but showes significant effect in OGT.AHE has significant antioxidant activity,which may be attributed to high phenolic content. | Patel DK Kumar R Prasad SK Sairam K Hemalatha S | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,4: | 22 |
| 3 | Role of live microbial feed supplements with reference to anaerobic fungi in ruminant productivity: A review显示文摘To keep the concept of a safe food supply to the consumers, animal feed industries world over are showing an increasing interest in the direct-fed microbials(DFM) for improved animal performance in terms of growth or productivity. This becomes all the more essential in a situation, where a number of the residues of antibiotics and/or other growth stimulants reach in milk and meat with a number of associated potential risks for the consumers. Hence, in the absence of growth stimulants, a positive manipulation of the rumen microbial ecosystem to enhance the feedstuff utilization for improved production efficiency by ruminants has become of much interest to the researchers and entrepreneurs. A few genera of live microbes(i.e., bacteria, fungi and yeasts in different types of formulations from paste to powder) are infrequently used as DFM for the domestic ruminants. These DFM products are live microbial feed supplements containing naturally occurring microbes in the rumen. Among different DFM possibilities, anaerobic rumen fungi(ARF) based additives have been found to improve ruminant productivity consistently during feeding trials. Administration of ARF during the few trials conducted, led to the increased weight gain, milk production, and total tract digestibility of feed components in ruminants. Anaerobic fungi in the rumen display very strong cell-wall degrading cellulolytic and xylanolytic activities through rhizoid development, resulting in the physical disruption of feed structure paving the way for bacterial action. Significant improvements in the fiber digestibility were found to coincide with increases in ARF in the rumen indicating their role. Most of the researches based on DFM have indicated a positive response in nutrient digestion and methane reducing potential during in vivo and/or in vitro supplementation of ARF as DFM. | 7 | Antioxidant activities of Indigofera cassioides Rottl.Ex.DC.using various in vitro assay models显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant potential of methanolic leaf extract of Indigofera cassioides(MEIC) using various in vilro antioxidant assay systems.Methods:Antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity of MEIC was assayed by using different in vitro models like ABTS, DPPH,nitric oxide,superoxide,hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radical.Reductive ability of the extract was tested by the complex formation with potassium ferricyanide.Further total phenol and flavonoid contents of the crude extract were also determined.Rutin and ascorbic acid were used as standards.Results:MEIC exhibited potent and concentration dependent free radical scavenging activity in all the tested models.Reductive ability was also found to increase with increase in MEIC concentration.Total phenol and flavonoid content determination showed that the extract is rich in phenols and flavonoids.Conclusions:All the results of the in vitro antioxidant assays reveal potent antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity of the leaves of Indigofera cassioides,equivalent to that of standard ascorbic acid and rutin.This potent antioxidant activity may be attributed to its high phenolic and flavonoid contents. | R Senthil Kumar B Rajkapoor P Perumal | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,4: | 15 |
| 8 | An overview on antidiabetic medicinal plants having insulin mimetic property显示文摘Diabetes mellitus is one of the common metabolic disorders acquiring around 2.8%of the world's population and is anticipated to cross 5.4%by the year 2025.Since long back herbal medicines have been the highly esteemed source of medicine therefore,they have become a growing part of modern,high-tech medicine.In view of the above aspects the present review provides profiles of plants(65 species) with hypoglycaemic properties,available through literature source from various database with proper categorization according to the parts used,mode of reduction in blood glucose(insulinomimetic or insulin secretagugues activity) and active phyloconsliluents having insulin mimetics activity.From the review it was suggested that,plant showing hypoglycemic potential mainly belongs to the family Leguminoseae,Lamiaceae,Liliaceae,Cucurbitaceae, Asteraceae,Moraceae,Rosaceae and Araliaceae.The most active plants are Allium sativum. | 9 | Effects of Flower Buds Extract of Tussilago farfara on Focal Cerebral Ischemia in Rats and Inflammatory Response in BV2 Microglia显示文摘Objective: To investigate the effects of the flower buds extract of Tussilago farfara Linné(Farfarae Flos; FF) on focal cerebral ischemia through regulation of inflammatory responses in activated microglia. Methods: Brain ischemia was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats by a transient middle cerebral artery occlusion(t MCAO) for 90 min and reperfusion for 24 h. Twenty rats were randomly divided into 4 groups(n=5 per group): normal, t MCAO-induced ischemic control, t MCAO plus FF extract 300 mg/kg-treated, and t MCAO plus MK-801 1 mg/kg-treated as reference drug. FF extract(300 mg/kg, p.o.) or MK-801(1 mg/kg, i.p.) was administered after reperfusion. Brain infarction was measured by 2,3,5,-triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining. Neuronal damage was observed by haematoxylin eosin, Nissl staining and immunohistochemistry using anti-neuronal nuclei(Neu N), anti-glial fibril ary acidic protein(GFAP), and antiCD11 b/c(OX42) antibodies in ischemic brain. The expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOS), tumor necrosis factor(TNF-α), and hypoxia-inducible factor-1 a(HIF-1α) were determined by Western blot. BV2 microglial cel s were treated with FF extract or its main bioactive compound, tussilagone with or without lipopolysaccharide(LPS). Nitric oxide(NO) production was measured in culture medium by Griess assay. The expressions of i NOS, COX-2 and pro-inflammatory cytokines mRNA were analyzed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. The expression of i NOS, and COX-2 proteins, the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK, and p38 MAPK and the nuclear expression of NF-κB p65 in BV2 cells were determined by Western blot. Results: FF extract significantly decreased brain infarctions in ischemic rats(P<0.01). The neuronal death and the microglia/astrocytes activation in ischemic brains were inhibited by FF extract. FF extract also suppressed i NOS, TNF-α, and HIF-1α expression in ischemic brains. FF extract(0.2 and 0.5 mg/m L, P<0.01) and tussilagone 20 and 50 μmol/L, P<0.01) significantly decreased LPS-induced NO production in BV2 microglia through downregulation of i NOS m RNA and protein expression. FF extract and tussilagone significantly inhibited LPS-induced expression of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 m RNA, and also suppressed the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK and p38 MAPK and the nuclear expression of NF-κB in a dosedependent manner. | 10 | Pedalium murex Linn(Pedaliaceae) fruits:a comparative antioxidant activity of its different fractions显示文摘Objective:To examine the antioxidant activity and total phenolic content of different solvent fractions of Pedulium murex(P.murex)Linn fruits(Family:Pedaliaceae)as well as the correlation between the total antioxidant capacity and total phenolic content.Methods:In the present study,the antioxidant activities of P.murex were evaluated using six in-vitro assays,namely total antioxidant assay,DPPH assay,reducing power,nitric oxide scavenging,hydrogen peroxide scavenging and deoxyribose scavenging assays,and total phenol contents were also investigated.Results:The ethyl acetate(EA)fraction was found to have high levels of phenolic content(298.72±2.09 mg GAE/g).The EA fraction exhibit higher total antioxidant capacity,higher percentage of DPPH radical scavenging activity(135.11±2.95μg/mL),nitric oxide(200.57±4.5lμg/mL),hydrogen peroxide(2I7.91±6.12μg/mL),deoxyribose(250.01±4.68μg/mL)and higher reducing power.Correlation coefficient(r^2=0.914)was found to be significant between total phenolic content and total antioxidant activity.Conclusions:In general,the results indicate that the EA fractions are rich in phenolic antioxidants with potent free radical scavenging activity implying their importance to human health. | DK Patel R Kumar SK Prasad S Hemalatha | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,5: | 12 |

| 12 | Treatment of laryngopharyngeal reflux disease: A systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUNG For a long time,laryngopharyngeal reflux disease(LPRD)has been treated by proton pump inhibitors(PPIs)with an uncertain success rate.AIM To shed light the current therapeutic strategies used for LPRD in order to analysis the rationale in the LPRD treatment.METHODS Three authors conducted a PubMed search to identify papers published between January 1990 and February 2019 about the treatment of LPRD.Clinical prospective or retrospective studies had to explore the impact of medical treatment(s)on the clinical presentation of suspected or confirmed LPRD.The criteria for considering studies for the review were based on the population,intervention,comparison,and outcome framework.RESULTS The search identified 1355 relevant papers,of which 76 studies met the inclusion criteria,accounting for 6457 patients.A total of 64 studies consisted of empirical therapeutic trials and 12 were studies where authors formally identified LPRD with pH-monitoring or multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH monitoring(MII-pH).The main therapeutic scheme consisted of once or twice daily PPIs for a duration ranged from 4 to 24 wk.The most used PPIs were omeprazole,esomeprazole,rabeprazole,lansoprazole and pantoprazole with a success rate ranging from 18%to 87%.Other composite treatments have been prescribed including PPIs,alginate,prokinetics,and H2 Receptor antagonists.CONCLUSION Regarding the development of MII-pH and the identification of LPRD subtypes(acid,nonacid,mixed),future studies are needed to improve the LPRD treatment considering all subtypes of reflux. | Jerome R Lechien Francois Mouawad Maria R Barillari Andrea Nacci Seyyedeh Maryam Khoddami Necati Enver Sampath Kumar Raghunandhan Christian Calvo-Henriquez Young-Gyu Eun Sven Saussez | 2019 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2019,7,19: | 9 |

| 16 | Antioxidant and cytotoxic effects of hexane extract of Morinda pubescens leaves in human liver cancer cell line显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant and cytotoxic effects of hexane extract of Morinda pubescens leaves and to find the primary bioactive compound responsible for antioxidant and cytotoxic activities.Methods:The individual compounds were isolated using column chromatography and were characterized by spectroscopic techniques.The antioxidant activity was evaluated for all individual isolated compounds by DPPH method using L-Ascorbic acid as standard and cytotoxicity was assessed for the extract and the hyoscyamine by MTT assay, caspase test and RT-PCR study.Results:The antioxidant activity of the isolated compounds and the extract increased as the concentration increased.One of the isolated compound hyoscyamine showed the high antioxidant activity.The extract and the hyoscyamine dose-dependently decreased the cell viability in HepG2 cells.Hyoscyamine induced caspase-3 mediated apoptosis. Up regulation of p53 gene expression provides cue for apoptotic activity of hyoscyamine. | 17 | Evaluation of in vitro aldose reductase inhibitory potential of different fraction of Hybanthus enneaspermus Linn F.Muell显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the aldose reductase inhibitory(ARI)activity of different fractions of Hybanthus enneaspermus for potential use in diabetic cataract.Methods:Total phenol and flavonoid content of different fractions was determined.ARI activity of different fractions in rat lens was investigated in vitro.Results:The results showed significant level of phenolic and flavonoid content in ethyl acetate fraction[total phenol(212.15±0.79 mg/g),total flavonoid(39.11±2.27mg/g)]and aqueous fraction[total phenol(140.62±0.57mg/g),total flavonoid(26.07±1.49 mg/g)]as compared with the chloroform fraction[total phenol(68.56±0.51mg/g),total flavonoid(13.41±0.82mg/g)]and petrolium ether fraction[total phenol(36.68±0.43mg/g),total flavonoid(11.55±1.06mg/g)].There was a significant difference in the ARI activity of each fraction,and it was found to be the highest in ethyl acetate fraction[IC_(50)(49.26±1.76μg/mL)]followed by aqueous extract[IC_(50)(70.83±2.82μg/mL)]and it was least in the petroleum ether fraction[IC_(50)(118.89±0.71μg/mL)].Chloroform fraction showed moderate activity[IC_(50)(98.52±1.80μg/mL)].Conclusions:Different fractions showed significanct amount of ARI activity,where in ethyl acetate fraction it was found to be maximum which may be due to its high phenolic and flavonoid content.The extract after further evaluation may be used in the treatment of diabetic cataract. | Patel DK Kumar R Kumar M Sairarn K Hemalatha S | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,2: | 4 |
