Antioxidant activities of Indigofera cassioides Rottl.Ex.DC.using various in vitro assay models显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant potential of methanolic leaf extract of Indigofera cassioides(MEIC) using various in vilro antioxidant assay systems. Methods:Antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity of MEIC was assayed by using different in vitro models like ABTS, DPPH,nitric oxide, superoxide, hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radical.Reductive ability of the extract was tested by the complex formation with potassium ferricyanide.Further total phenol and flavonoid contents of the crude extract were also determined.Rutin and ascorbic acid were used as standards. Results:MEIC exhibited potent and concentration dependent free radical scavenging activity in all the tested models.Reductive ability was also found to increase with increase in MEIC concentration.Total phenol and flavonoid content determination showed that the extract is rich in phenols and flavonoids. Conclusions:All the results of the in vitro antioxidant assays reveal potent antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity of the leaves of Indigofera cassioides, equivalent to that of standard ascorbic acid and rutin. This potent antioxidant activity may be attributed to its high phenolic and flavonoid contents. | R Senthil Kumar B Rajkapoor P Perumal | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,4: | 15
Antibacterial activity and characterization of secondary metabolites isolated from mangrove plant Avicennia officinalis显示文摘Objective:To explore antibacterial activity and characterization of secondary metabolites isolated from mangrove plant Avicennia officinalis(A.officinalis).Methods:In the present study the leaf extracts of A.officinalis were examined for its antibacterial potential using five different solvents against some reference strains of human pathogenic bacteria for the crude extract.Maximum activity was observed for ethyl acetate and hence different concentrations like 15μL,25μL,and 50μL of ethyl extracts was checked for its antibacterial activity.Partial purification of crude extract was carried by column chromatography and fractions were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) to identify compounds. Results:The crude ethyl acetate extracts of A.officinalis showed remarkable antibacterial activity with zones of inhibition of 13 mm against Eschericia coli(E.coli) and 11 mm against Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus).Fraction 13(ethyl acetate:methanol= 8:2) as the most potent one against with the minimal inhibitory concentration of 30 mm against E.coli and 25 mm against S.aureus.The GCMS resultsof active column fraction(F13) revealed that the active principals were a mixture of hydroxy- 4 methoxybenzoic acid, diethyl phthalate, oleic acid. Conclusions:The leaf extracts with proven antibacterial effects can clearly be directed towards cancer treatment as to inhibiting cancer cell growth. The limited number of test organisms owes to a constraint of resource. So,the effect of strong bursts of leaf extracts on human pathogenic bacteria should further be tested on a wide range of test organisms. | Valentin Bhimba B J Meenupriya Elsa Lycias Joel D Edaya Naveena Suman kumar M Thangaraj | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,7: | 13
The role and significance of Magnesium in modern day research-A review显示文摘Magnesium is one of the largely available elements in the earth’s crust. It has a low structural density with high specific strength. This unique material property has forced an increase in the use of magnesium and its alloys in various applications pertaining to industrial sector, automobiles, aerospace and biomedical. Since magnesium is a highly reactive metal, it is prone to higher rate of corrosion as compared to its counterparts. Thus, it is essential to analyze the corrosion behavior of magnesium and its alloys in its applications. An appropriate process is to be followed in the design and development of magnesium alloys which overcome the limitations of magnesium and enhance the desired material properties in accordance to their applications. This review paper summarizes the importance of magnesium and its material properties. The influence of various alloying elements on the mechanical properties of magnesium is reviewed. The broad classification of Mg alloys and their behavioral trends are detailed. The corrosion behavior of magnesium and the influence of corrosion products on the material characteristics of magnesium, in aqueous medium, are discussed. The manufacturing techniques of magnesium alloys along with the secondary techniques are also covered. The various applications and the limitations of magnesium in these applications are covered. A complete section is dedicated towards detailing the recent trends of magnesium(Mg) alloys, i.e., the biodegradable nature and applications of Mg alloys. The influence of biocorrosion on Mg alloys and techniques to overcome it have been deliberated. This paper provides a thorough review on recent developments of magnesium with respect to engineering applications. | S V Satya Prasad S B Prasad Kartikey Verma Raghvendra Kumar Mishra Vikas Kumar Subhash Singh | 2022 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2022,10,1: | 11
Characteristics of MOF, MWCNT and graphene containing materials for hydrogen storage: A review显示文摘Hydrogen is a generally abundant, safe, clean and environmentally apt alternative fuel, which replenishes the void generated by depleting fossil fuel reserves. The adoption of hydrogen as an energy source has been restricted to low levels due to the complications associated with its viable storage and usage. Existing technologies, such as storage of hydrogen in compressed and liquefied forms are not adequate to meet the broad on-board applications. The gravimetric energy density(120 MJ/kg) of hydrogen is three times higher than that of gasoline products, so solid-state hydrogen storage is advantageous.Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs), multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) and graphene are solid adsorbents majorly employed for efficient H_2 storage. The prominent features of MOFs such as permanent porosity, structural rigidity, and surface area are attractive and ideal for hydrogen storage. In addition, nanostructured carbon materials(MWCNTs and graphene) and their composites have demonstrated significant hydrogen storage capacities. Some important parameters for the success of the hydrogen economy include high storage density, adsorption/desorption temperature and cycling time. Cryo-hydrogen storage was achieved in MOFs and their composites with carbon structures, but storage at ambient temperature and acceptable pressures is a major hurdle. This review discusses various strategies and mechanisms in the design of adsorbents explored to improve H_2 storage capacities and afford opportunities to develop new sustainable hydrogen technologies to meet energy targets. | Kranthi Kumar Gangu Suresh Maddila Saratchandra Babu Mukkamala Sreekantha B Jonnalagadda | 2019 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2019,28,3: | 10
Antihyperglycemic and antioxidant effects of Solanum xanthocarpum leaves(field grown & in vitro raised) extracts on alloxan induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate antidiabetic efficacy of the extract of field grown and in vitro raised leaves of Solanum xanthocarpum(S.xanthocarpum) against alloxan induced diabetic rats. Methods:The antidiabetic activity of the crude methanol extracts of the field grown and in vitro raised leaves of S.xanthocarpum at different concentrations(100-200 mg/kg bw) was tested against alloxan induced diabetic rats. The antidiabetic efficacy was validated through various biochemical parameters and the antioxidant effect was also determined. The phytochemical analyses of field grown S.xanthocarpum and in vitro rasied 5.xanthocarpum leaves were done by estimating their chlorophyll, carotenoids, total sugar, protein, amino acid and minerals contents. Results:The results revealed that the methanol extracts of both the leaves(field grown and in vitro raised) of S.xanthocarpum was efficient anti hyperglycemic agents at a concentration of 200 mg/kg bw and posses potent antioxidant activity. However, the extracts of in vitro rasied S.xanthocarpum raised leaves exhibit higher efficacy than the field grown leaves in all tested concentrations.Proximal composition and mineral analysis of S.xanthocarpum revealed higher concentration of contents in in vitro rasied S.xanthocarpum than field grown S.xanthocarpum. Conclusions:From the results it can be concluded that the leaves extracts of S.xanthocarpum can be a potential candidate in treating the hyperglycemic conditions and suits to be an agent to reduce oxidative stress. | K Poongothai P Ponmurugan K Syed Zameer Ahmed B Senthil Kumar SA Sheriff | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,10: | 9
Influence of heat treatment on the machinability and corrosion behavior of AZ91 Mg alloy显示文摘In the present study,AZ91 Mg alloy was heat treated at 410℃ for 6,12 and 24 h to investigate the influence of heat treatment on machinability and corrosion behavior. The effect of soaking time on the amount and distribution of Mg 17 Al 12(β-phase)was analyzed under the optical microscope.Microhardness measurements demonstrated the increased hardness with increased heat treatment soaking time, which can be attributed to the solid solution strengthening. The influence of super saturatedα-grains on reducing the cutting force(F z)with respect to increased cutting speed was observed as prominent. The corrosion behavior of the heat treated specimens was studied by conducting electrochemical tests.Surprisingly, corrosion rate of heat treated samples was observed as increased compared with the base material. From the results,it is evident that the machinability of AZ91 Mg alloy can be improved by producing super saturatedα-grains through heat treatment but at the cost of losing corrosion resistance. | Swetha Chowdary V Ravikumar Dumpala Anand Kumar S Kondaiah VV Ratna Sunil B | 2018 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2018,6,1: | 7

Polyphosphate and associated enzymes as global regulators of stress response and virulence in Campylobacter jejuni显示文摘Campylobacter jejuni(C. jejuni),a Gram-negative microaerophilic bacterium,is a predominant cause of bacterial foodborne gastroenteritis in humans worldwide. Despite its importance as a major foodborne pathogen, our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying C. jejuni stress survival and pathogenesis is limited. Inorganic polyphosphate(poly P) has been shown to play significant roles in bacterial resistance to stress and virulence in many pathogenic bacteria. C. jejuni contains the complete repertoire of enzymes required for poly P metabolism. Recent work in our laboratory and others have demonstrated that poly P controls a plethora of C. jejuni properties that impact its ability to survive in the environment as well as to colonize/infect mammalian hosts. This review article summarizes the current literature on the role of poly P in C. jejuni stress survival and virulence and discusses on how poly P-related enzymes can be exploited for therapeutic/prevention purposes. Additionally, the review article identifies potential areas for future investigation that would enhance our understanding of the role of poly P in C. jejuni and other bacteria, which ultimately would facilitate design of effective therapeutic/preventive strategies to reduce not only the burden of C. jejuni-caused foodborne infections but also of other bacterial infections in humans. | Anand Kumar Dharanesh Gangaiah Jordi B Torrelles Gireesh Rajashekara | 2016 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2016,22,33: | 2
FEM based Electromagnetic Signature Analysis of Winding Inter-turn Short-Circuit Fault in Inverter fed Induction Motor显示文摘The intent of this paper is to analyze the electromagnetic signature of stator winding inter-turn short-circuit fault in a closed loop speed controlled Induction Motor(IM)employing Finite Element Method.Stator winding short-circuit nearly covers 21%of faults in IM.Diagnosing the inter-turn fault at an incipient stage is one of the challenging task in the area of fault detection of IM to prevent crucial damages in industrial applications. Also detecting the faults in inverter fed IM under variable speed applications under varying load is one of the major issues in industrial drives. As the signatures of electromagnetic field contains the entire data in association with the location of rotor, stator and mechanical parts of the motor,a regular monitoring of fields in the airgap can be used to diagnose the inter-turn fault in the stator winding of IM.In this direction,an IM is modeled with several inter-turn fault severities like 30 turns,15 turns,5 turns&1 turn short using ANSYS Maxwell FEA tool and coupled with ANSYS Simplorer for loading arrangements. The PWM inverter with closed loop speed controlled strategy is implemented in Matlab Simulink and co-simulated with ANSYS Simplorer to integrate all the components in one common simulation platform environment for accurate design&analysis for realistic simulation.Several electromagnetic variables like flux density, flux lines and airgap flux density distribution over the machine are analyzed. The spatial FFT spectrum of radial component of flux density in the airgap contains the information related to the diagnosis of inter-turn fault at the incipient stage. | Praveen Kumar N Isha T B | 2019 | CES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems2019,3,3: | 2
Understanding the molecular mechanisms of cancer prevention by dietary phytochemicals:From experimental models to clinical trials显示文摘Chemoprevention is one of the cancer prevention approaches wherein natural/synthetic agent(s) are prescribed with the aim to delay or disrupt multiple pathways and processes involved at multiple steps, i.e., initiation, promotion, and progression of cancer. Amongst environmental chemopreventive compounds, diet/beverage-derived components are under evaluation, because of their long history of exposure to humans, high tolerability, low toxicity, and reported biological activities. This compilation briefly covers and compares the available evidence on chemopreventive efficacy and probable mechanism of chemoprevention by selected dietary phytochemicals(capsaicin, curcumin, diallyl sulphide, genistein, green/black tea polyphenols, indoles, lycopene, phenethyl isocyanate, resveratrol, retinoids and tocopherols) in experimental systems and clinical trials. All the dietary phytochemicals covered in this review have demonstrated chemopreventive efficacy against spontaneous or carcinogen-induced experimental tumors and/or associated biomarkers and processes in rodents at several organ sites. The observed anti-initiating, anti-promoting and anti-progression activity of dietary phytochemicals in carcinogen-induced experimental models involve phytochemical-mediated redox changes, modulation of enzymes and signaling kinases resulting to effects on multiple genes and cell signaling pathways. Results from clinical trials using these compounds have not shown them to be chemopreventive. This may be due to our:(1) inability to reproduce the exposure conditions, i.e., levels, complexity, other host and lifestyle factors; and(2) lack of understanding about the mechanisms of action and agent-mediated toxicity in several organs and physiological processes in the host. Current research efforts in addressing the issues of exposure conditions, bioavailability, toxicity and the mode of action of dietary phytochemicals may help address the reason for observed mismatch that may ultimately lead to identification of new chemopreventive agents for protection against broad spectrum of exposures. | Girish B Maru Rasika R Hudlikar Gaurav Kumar Khushboo Gandhi Manoj B Mahimkar | 2016 | World Journal of Biological Chemistry2016,7,1: | 2

Effect of morin, a flavonoid against DOCA-salt hypertensive rats:a dose dependent study显示文摘Objective:To determine the protective effect of morin, a flavonoid against deoxycorticosterone acetate(DOCA)-salt induced hypertension in male Wistar rats. Methods:Hypertension was induced in uninephrectomized rats by weekly twice subcutaneous injection of DOCA(25 mg/kg bw) and 1% NaCl in the drinking water for six consecutive weeks. Effect of morin against DOCA-salt induced hypertension was evaluated by measuring blood pressure and performing biochemical estimations and histopathological examination of renal tissues.Results:DOCA-salt hypertensive rats showed considerably increased systolic and diastolic blood pressure, serum hepatic marker enzyme activities such as aspartate aminotransferase(AST), alanine aminotransferase(ALT), alkaline phosphatase(ALP) and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase(GGT)and renal function markers(urea, uric acid and creatinine) in plasma. Oral administration of morin(25, 50 and 75 mg/kg bw) brought back all the above parameters to near normal level.Histopathology of kidney also confirmed the biochemical findings of this study. The effect at a dose of 50 mg/kg bw of morin was more pronounced than that of the other two doses(25 and 75 mg/kg bw). Conclusions:These findings indicate that morin exhibits strong antihypertensive effect against DOCA-salt induced hypertension. | Prahalathan P Kumar S Raja B | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,6: | 2
