Current Status of Conventional and Molecular Interventions for Blast Resistance in Rice显示文摘Pyricularia oryzae anamorph of Magnaporthe oryzae is one of the most notorious fungal pathogens causing severe economic loss in rice production worldwide. Various methods, viz. cultural, biological and molecular approaches, are utilized to counteract this pathogen. Moreover, some tolerant or resistant rice varieties have been developed with the help of breeding programmes. Isolation and molecular characterization of different blast resistance genes now open the gate for new possibilities to elucidate the actual allelic variants of these genes via various molecular breeding and transgenic approaches. However, the behavioral pattern of this fungus breakups the resistance barriers in the resistant or tolerant rice varieties. This host-pathogen barrier will be possibly countered in future research by comparative genomics data from available genome sequence data of rice and M. oryzae for durable resistance. Present review emphasized fascinating recent updates, new molecular breeding approaches, transgenic and genomics approaches(i.e. mi RNA and genome editing) for the management of blast disease in rice. The updated information will be helpful for the durable, resistance breeding programme in rice against blast pathogen.Deepti SRIVASTAVA Md SHAMIM Mahesh KUMAR Anurag MISHRA Pramila PANDEY Deepak KUMAR Prashant YADAV Mohammed Harrish SIDDIQUI Kapildeo Narayan SINGH 2017Rice science2017,24,6:8
Fabrication of Bi_2O_3/TiO_2nanocomposites and their applications to the degradation of pollutants in air and water under visible-light显示文摘A nanoheterojunction composite photocatalyst Bi2O3/TiO2working under visible-light(λ 420 nm) was prepared by combining two semiconductors Bi2O3 and TiO2 varying the Bi2O3/TiO2molar ratio. Maleic acid was employed as an organic binder to unite Bi2O3 and TiO2 nanoparticles. The SEM, TEM, XRD and diffuse reflectance spectra were utilized to characterize the prepared Bi2O3/TiO2nanoheterojunction. The nanocomposite exhibited unusual high photocatalytic activity in decomposing 2-propanol in gas phase and phenol in aqueous phase and, evolution of CO2 under visible light irradiation while the end members exhibited low photocatalytic activity. The composite was optimized to 5 mol% Bi2O3/TiO2. The remarkable high photocatalytic efficiency originates from the unique relative energy band position of Bi2O3 and TiO2 as well as the absorption of visible light by Bi2O3.Ashok Kumar Chakraborty Md Emran Hossain Md Masudur Rhaman K M A Sobahan 2014Journal of Environmental Sciences2014,26,2:7
Mechanical and metallurgical properties of friction stir welded dissimilar joints of AZ91 magnesium alloy and AA 6082-T6 aluminium alloy显示文摘In the present research work,AZ91 magnesium alloy and AA6082-T6 aluminium alloy were joined by friction stir welding process. The comparison of microstructure and mechanical properties between different joints by varying the different materials on advance and retreating sides were mainly studied.Four different welds have been prepared to find the material mixing between the similar and dissimilar joints. The joint interfaces of the welds have been investigated by employing an optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. When Mg was placed on advancing side(AS),more aluminium content was soluble in nugget zone than the case where Mg was placed on the retreating side(RS).Thin intermetallic layer in the joint interface of Mg/Al and thick intermetallic layer with poor adhesion of the aluminium and magnesium have been observed in the dissimilar joints varying the sides. The highest UTS of 172.3 MPa was found for Mg-Al when Mg was placed on AS and lower UTS of 156.25 MPa was obtained when Mg was placed on RS.Hardness of 86 Hv and 89 Hv were observed in the Stir zone for the dissimilar AZ91 Mg alloy and AA6082-T6 Al alloy when AZ91Mg alloy was placed on the AS and on the RS respectively.Fractography was also carried out to find the mode of failure.Sameer MD Anil Kumar Birru 2019Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2019,7,2:7
Synthesis of ion imprinted polymers for selective recognition and separation of rare earth metals显示文摘Lanthanide-ion imprinted polymers(L-IIPs) were synthesized by stoichiometric amounts of rare earth ions and the cavities in the polymers were created for the corresponding lanthanide ions. The maximum sorption capacities were estimated to be 125.3, 126.5, 127.6, 128.2 and 129.1 mg/g for Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu and Gd, respectively at p H 6. In the selectivity study, the L-IIPs exhibited good selectivity to the specific rare earth ions in the presence of coexisting cations. The imprinting results were found to be excellent with some rare earth ions over other competitor rare earth ions with the same charges and close ionic radius.Mashitah M.Yusoff Nik Rohani Nik Mostapa Md Shaheen Sarkar Tapan Kumar Biswas Md Lutfor Rahman Sazmal Effendi Arshad Mohd Sani Sarjadi Ajaykumar D.Kulkarni 2017Journal of Rare Earths2017,35,2:6
Hepatic stem cells: A viable approach for the treatment of liver cirrhosis显示文摘Liver cirrhosis is characterized by distortion of liver architecture, necrosis of hepatocytes and regenerative nodules formation leading to cirrhosis. Various types of cell sources have been used for the management and treatment of decompensated liver cirrhosis.Knowledge of stem cells has offered a new dimension for regenerative therapy and has been considered as one of the potential adjuvant treatment modality in patients with end stage liver diseases(ESLD). Human fetal hepatic progenitor cells are less immunogenic than adult ones. They are highly propagative and challenging to cryopreservation. In our earlier studies we have demonstrated that fetuses at 10-18 wk of gestation age contain a large number of actively dividing hepatic stem and progenitor cells which possess bipotent nature having potential to differentiate into bile duct cells and mature hepatocytes. Hepatic stem cell therapy for the treatment of ESLD is in their early stage of the translation. The emerging technology of decellularization and recellularization might offer a significant platform for developing bioengineered personalized livers to come over the scarcity of desired number of donor organs for the treatment of ESLD. Despite these significant advancements long-term tracking of stem cells in human is the most important subject nowadays in order to answer several unsettles issues regarding the route of delivery, the choice of stem cell type(s), the cell number and the timepoint of cell delivery for the treatment in a chronic setting. Answering to these questions will further contribute to the development of safer, noninvasive, and repeatable imaging modalities that could discover better cell therapeutic approaches from bench to bedside. Combinatorial approach of decellularization and nanotechnology could pave a way towards the better understanding in determination of cell fate posttransplantation.Md Aejaz Habeeb Sandeep Kumar Vishwakarma Avinash Bardia Aleem Ahmed Khan 2015World Journal of Stem Cells2015,7,5:5
Rapid Detection of Wheat Blast Pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae Triticum Pathotype Using Genome-Specific Primers and Cas12a-mediated Technology显示文摘Wheat blast, caused by the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae Triticum(MoT)pathotype,is a devastating disease persistent in South America and Bangladesh.Since MoT generally fails to cause visual symptoms in wheat until the heading stage when the infection would have advanced, disease control by fungicide application solely based on the detection of visual symptoms is ineffective. To develop an accurate and sensitive method to detect MoT at the seedling and vegetative stages for disease control,we sequenced the genomes of two MoT isolates from Brazil and identified two DNA fragments,MoT-6098 and MoT-6099,that are present in the MoT genome but not in the genome of the rice-infecting Magnaporthe oryzae Oryzae(MoO)pathotype.Using polymerase chain reaction(PCR),we confirmed the specificity of the two markers in 53 MoT and MoO isolates from South America and Bangladesh. To test the efficiency of the two markers,we first established a loop-mediated isothermal amplification(LAMP)method to detect MoT at isothermal conditions, without the use of a PCR machine.Following this,we used the Cas12a protein and guide RNAs(gRNAs)to target the MoT-6098 and MoT-6099 sequences. The activated Cas12a showed indiscriminate single-stranded deoxyribonuclease(ssDNase)activity. We then combined targetdependent Cas12a ssDNase activation with recombinase polymerase amplification(RPA)and nucleic acid lateral flow immunoassay(NALFIA)to develop a method that accurately, sensitively, and cost-effectively detects MoT-specific DNA sequences in infected wheat plants. This novel technique can be easily adapted for the rapid detection of wheat blast and other important plant diseases in the field.Houxiang Kang Ye Peng Kangyu Hua Yufei Deng Maria Bellizzi Dipali Rani Gupta Nur Uddin Mahmud Alfredo S.Urashima Sanjoy Kumar Paul Gary Peterson Yilin Zhou Xueping Zhou Md Tofazzal Islam Guo-Liang Wang 2021Engineering2021,7,9:4
Rare earth(Gd,La) co-doped ZnO nanoflowers for direct sunlight driven photocatalytic activity显示文摘In this work Gd/La@ZnO nanoflower photocatalyst was successfully synthesized by a co-precipitation method and applied for rhodamine B(Rh B) and tetracycline(TCN) degradation under direct sunlight irradiation. The doping of rare earth elements extends the optical absorption wavelength of ZnO from UV region(390 nm) to visible-light region(401 nm).In addition, the co-doped ZnO nanoflower exhibits a lower charge recombination efficiency which was confirmed by photoluminescence emission analysis. Moreover, the co-doped ZnO nanoflower exhibits the maximum degradation efficiency of 91% for Rh B and 74% for TCN under sunlight irradiation. The calculated synergistic index of co-doped ZnO is higher than that of the pure ZnO.Reactive radicals’ production was confirmed by terephthalic acid(TA) and nitro-blue tetrazolium(NBT) tests. The holes and hydroxyl(·OH) radicals play the major role in degradation reaction and it was confirmed by scavenger’s test. Moreover, the recycling test confirms the stability of the photocatalyst.Baskaran Palanivel Romulo R.Macadangdang Jr Md Shahadat Hossain Fahad A.Alharthi Mohanraj Kumar Jih-Hsing Chang Sreedevi Gedi 2023Journal of Rare Earths2023,41,1:3
Nutrient dynamics in the Sundarbans mangrove estuarine system of Bangladesh under different weather and tidal cycles显示文摘Introduction:Seasonal and tidal variations in nutrient concentration and water quality were investigated in the western Sundarbans of Bangladesh during the post-monsoon,winter and monsoon seasons during 2010–2011.Methods:Water collected from the surface, middle and bottom layers at six locations of the Kholpetua-Arpangashia river system during high and low tides was analyzed for temperature, salinity,pH,dissolved oxygen(DO),total dissolved solids(TDS),electrical conductivity(EC)and dissolved nutrients(NO3–N,PO4–P,SO4 and NH3–N).Results:The study revealed that nutrient concentrations were influenced by seasonal changes.Mean nutrient levels during post-monsoon,winter and monsoon seasons, respectively, were in the following ranges:nitrate(0.06–0.40,0.06–0.46 and 0.08–0.46 mg/L);phosphate(0.09–0.18,0.05–0.42 and 0.10–0.16 mg/L);sulphate(58.71–86.14,68.68–119.01 and 78.15–136.47 mg/L)and ammonia(0.02–0.08,0.02–0.04 and 0.26–0.38 mg/L).Increased levels of PO4–P,SO4 and NH3–N and lower DO and salinity were recorded during the monsoon period. Most of the experimental sites showed higher NO3–N content during monsoon, whereas few elevated concentrations were observed during post-monsoon and winter periods.High and low tidal waters contained mean nutrient levels in the following ranges:nitrate(0.05–0.46 and 0.04–0.40 mg/L);phosphate(0.05–0.42 and 0.07–0.18 mg/L);sulphate(63.63–125.36 and 58.71–136.47 mg/L)and ammonia(0.02–0.38 and 0.02–0.37 mg/L)without following any distinct fluctuation patterns. The western part of the Sundarbans receives less freshwater input during the monsoon season than other areas of the ecosystem, which reduces the variability of nutrient levels and water quality components. Conclusions:This study provides considerable advances in understanding the seasonality of nutrient distribution with possible tidal influence. The data generated from this study will guide continuing efforts to support a sound management for coastal mangrove ecosystems.Shak Md Bazlur Rahaman Lipton Sarder Md Sayadur Rahaman Alokesh Kumar Ghosh Sudhin Kumar Biswas SM Shahjahan Siraj Khandaker Anisul Huq Abul Farah Md Hasanuzzaman Shikder Saiful Islam 2013Ecological Processes2013,2,1:2
Insect(black soldier fly larvae) oil as a potential substitute for fish or soy oil in the fish meal-based diet of juvenile rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss)显示文摘Alternative sources of fish oil(FO)are one of the major problems in aquaculture;therefore, the goal of the present study was to examine insect(black soldier fly larvae)oil(BSLO)as a potential replacer of fish/s oy oil in juvenile rainbow trout(initial average weight of 32±0.15 g)feed.Four diets were formulated wherein FO(control diet)was completely replaced with either soybean oil(SO)or BSLO,and an additional BSLO-based diet supplemented with 1.5%bile acid(BSLO+BA)were fed to the fish for 10 weeks.Growth performance of the BSLO fed group was similar(P>0.05)to that of the FO and SO fed groups, howeve r,the fish fed BSLO+BA diet registered the lowest growth(P<0.05).Oil sources did not(P>0.05)affect the major nutrient content of whole-body,however,the fatty acid composition of the muscle and liver was influenced(P<0.05),with the highest 14:0,16:0,and total saturated fatty acid detected in BSLO or BSLO+BA fed trout compared to the others(P<0.001).No significant diffe rences were observed in eicosapentaenoic acid+docosahexaenoic acid(EPA+DHA)or total n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid(PUFA)content in muscle among the groups, whereas, the highest EPA:DHA and n-3:n-6 ratios were detected in the FO group.Gene expression for fatty acid binding protein(fabp),fatty acid synthase(fas),and△5 desaturase in the liver was lower in FO(P<0.05),while BSLO+BA registered the highest△6 expression(P=0.006).Supplementation of BA in the BSLO diet increased superoxide dismutase(SOD)and catalase(CAT)activities compared to the other groups(P<0.05).In conclusion,BSLO could serve as a substitute for FO and SO in rainbow trout diet without negatively impacting growth performance,whole-body composition and nutrient retention, and modulate the expression of fatty acid metabolism-related genes in rainbow trout.Femi J.Fawole Shyam N.Labh Md Sakhawat Hossain Ken Overturf Brian C.Small Thomas L.Welker Ronald W.Hardy Vikas Kumar 2021Animal Nutrition2021,,4:2
Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on semen quality in male partners of infertile couples: a hospitalbased observational study显示文摘The effects of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic on male fertility have received considerable attention because human testes contain high levels of angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 receptors, through which severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)can enter.Early studies showed decreases in semen quality during and after recovery from COVID-19.However,no semen quality studies have examined the effects of widespread subclinical and mild disease,as well as changes in lifestyle, psychosocial behavior, intake of dietary supplements, and stress. This cross-sectional study compared semen quality parameters in male partners of infertile couples between men who underwent semen analysis before the COVID-19 pandemic(prepandemic group)and men who underwent semen analysis during the pandemic period(pandemic group);the analysis sought to clarify the overall effects of the pandemic. No participants in the pandemic group had experienced clinically overt disease.Among the 239 participants, mean body weight(P=0.001),mean body mass index(P<0.001),median sperm concentration(P=0.014),total sperm count(P=0.006),and total percentages of motile(P=0.013)and abnormal cells(P<0.001)were significantly greater in the pandemic group(n=137)than those in the prepandemic group(n=102).Among abnormal cells, the percentages of cells with excess residual cytoplasm(P<0.001),head defects(P<0.001),and tail defects(P=0.015)were significantly greater in the pandemic group than those in the prepandemic group. With the exception of morphology, the overall semenogram results were better in the pandemic group than those in the prepandemic group.Tribhuwan Kumar Kamlesh Jha Md Zabihullah Kumari Neelu Yogesh Kumar Kumar Siddharth 2023Asian Journal of Andrology2023,25,2:2
Sliding mode controller design for frequency regulation in an interconnected power system显示文摘In this paper, a Sliding mode controller design method for frequency regulation in an interconnected power system is presented. A sliding surface having four parameters has been selected for the load frequency control (LFC) system model. In order to achieve an optimal result, the parameter of the controller is obtained by grey wolf optimization (GWO) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) techniques. The objective function for optimization has been considered as the integral of square of error of deviation in frequency and tie-line power exchange. The method has been validated through simulation of a single area as well as a multi-area power system. The performance of the Sliding mode controller has also been analyzed for parametric variation and random loading patterns. The performance of the proposed method is better than recently reported methods. The performance of the proposed Sliding mode controller via GWO has 88.91% improvement in peak value of frequency deviation over the method of Anwar and Pan in case study 1 and similar improvement has been observed over different case studies taken from the literature.Anand Kumar Md Nishat Anwar Shekhar Kumar 2021Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems2021,6,1:2
