| 1 | Current Status of Conventional and Molecular Interventions for Blast Resistance in Rice显示文摘Pyricularia oryzae anamorph of Magnaporthe oryzae is one of the most notorious fungal pathogens causing severe economic loss in rice production worldwide. Various methods, viz. cultural, biological and molecular approaches, are utilized to counteract this pathogen. Moreover, some tolerant or resistant rice varieties have been developed with the help of breeding programmes. Isolation and molecular characterization of different blast resistance genes now open the gate for new possibilities to elucidate the actual allelic variants of these genes via various molecular breeding and transgenic approaches. However, the behavioral pattern of this fungus breakups the resistance barriers in the resistant or tolerant rice varieties. This host-pathogen barrier will be possibly countered in future research by comparative genomics data from available genome sequence data of rice and M. oryzae for durable resistance. Present review emphasized fascinating recent updates, new molecular breeding approaches, transgenic and genomics approaches(i.e. mi RNA and genome editing) for the management of blast disease in rice. | 2 | Visible light communication for intelligent transportation systems:A review of the latest technologies显示文摘In seeking to improve traffic congestion and safety on roads and highways,there has been an increased interest in intelligent transportation systems(ITS).The emerging visible light communication(VLC)technology is a new candidate to enable wireless access in ITS.The purpose of this study is to present a comprehensive review of the current studies related to VLC.Since VLC facilitates illumination and data communication simultaneously,it reduces energy consumption significantly.Additionally,VLC is immune to electromagnetic interference,provides high data security,and utilizes unregulated visible light spectrum,showing promise as a potentially cheaper alternative to existing radio frequency(RF)based technology.Moreover,recent advances in semiconductor materials and solid-state technologies have enabled the development of efficient light-emitting diodes(LEDs)and laser diodes(LDs)which are used as transmitters in a VLC system.Although 10 s of Gbits/s data rate has been demonstrated in indoor VLC links,successful implementation of it in outdoor environments requires further research to overcome the challenges presented by environmental factors,unwanted lights,non-line of sight communication,directional radiation pattern,frequent fragmentation,and so on.Besides,in recent years,semiconductor LDs have been garnering more attention since they can transmit more data over longer distances due to their high quantum efficiency and modulation bandwidth compared to LEDs.As a result,urban planners,policy-makers,transportation engineers,and vehicle manufacturers are considering LD-based VLC to facilitate vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication.Thus,this paper reviews and compares the most recent developments in VLC technologies,identifies their benefits and potential use in ITS applications,discusses the probable barriers for their implementation in our existing transportation infrastructure,and suggests future research directions and recommendations to overcome these challenges. | Khaled Shaaban Md Hosne Mobarok Shamim Khadija Abdur-Rouf | 2021 | Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2021,8,4: | 3 |
| 3 | A quasi-steady state model for predicting the heating requirements of conventional greenhouses in cold regions显示文摘A time-dependent,quasi-steady state thermal model(GREENHEAT)based on the lumped estimation of heat transfer parameters of greenhouses has been developed to predict the hourly heating requirements of conventional greenhouses.The model was designed to predict the hourly heating requirements based on the input of greenhouse indoor environmental control parameters,physical and thermal properties of crops and construction materials,and hourly weather data including temperature,relative humidity,wind speed,and cloud cover.The model includes all of the heat transfer parameters in greenhouses including the heat loss for plant evapotranspiration,and the heat gain from environmental control systems.Results show that the predicted solar radiation data from the solar radiation sub-model are a reasonable fit with the data from the National Solar Radiation Database(NSRDB).Thermal analysis indicates environmental control systems could reduce 13–56%of the total heating requirements over the course of a year in the study greenhouse.During the winter season,the highest amount of greenhouse heat is lost due to conduction and convection,and the heat used for evapotranspiration is dominant in the summer.Finally,the model was validated with actual heating data collected from a commercial greenhouse located in Saskatoon,and the results show that the model satisfactorily predicts the greenhouse heating requirements. | Md Shamim Ahamed Huiqing Guo Karen Tanino | 2018 | Information Processing in Agriculture2018,5,1: | 2 |

| 8 | Heating demand and economic feasibility analysis for year-round vegetable production in Canadian Prairies greenhouses显示文摘Greenhouse vegetable production in Canadian Prairies is important for creating a sustainable regional food economy,especially in northern communities.This study included the estimation of heating demand for year-round production and evaluation of the economic feasibility of greenhouse vegetable production(tomato,cucumber,and pepper)in a conceptually designed greenhouse(0.6 ha)located in remote northern communities in Saskatchewan,Canada.The heating simulation was based on a greenhouse heating simulation model(GREENHEAT)developed by the authors recently.The simulation results showed that the annual heating requirement for the production of tomato,cucumber,and pepper are 1486 MJ m^2,1657 MJ m^2,and 1754 MJ m^2,respectively.The economic analysis indicates the net return(NR)from the production of tomato,cucumber,and pepper,are C$69.2/m^2(in Canadian dollar,CAD),C$41.5/m^2,and C$43.8/m^2,respectively,based on the market price C$3.5/kg,C$2.7/kg,and C$8.0/kg,and yields of 55.0 kg m^-2,65.0 kg m^-2,and 23.0 kg m^-2.The net present value(NPV)for the tomato,cucumber,and pepper production are C$1.9 M,C$1.2 M,and C$1.1 M,respectively,and the benefit-cost ratio(BCR)are 1.38,1.21,and 1.21.The economic feasibility analysis indicates the year-round production of vegetables in a greenhouse at remote northern Saskatchewan would be economically profitable. | Md Shamim Ahamed Huiqing Guo Lisa Taylor Karen Tanino | 2019 | Information Processing in Agriculture2019,6,1: | 0 |
| 9 | Pathogens causing diarrhoea among Bangladeshi children with malignancy: Results from two pilot studies显示文摘BACKGROUND Diarrhoea is a frequent symptom in children with cancer, and occurs due to a composite effect of underlying disease and immunosuppression consequent to therapy, malnutrition, and non-infective aetiologies such as mucositis. In a large proportion of cases, the aetiology of diarrhoea remains unknown but is often attributed to multiple pathogens including parasites.AIM To identify and describe the pathogens causing diarrhoea in Bangladeshi children with cancer.METHODS Two cross-sectional pilot studies were conducted involving paediatric oncology patients with diarrhoea. Stool samples were collected from children who were hospitalised with or without being treated with chemotherapy during the study period, and had diarrhoea at any stage during their admission. In the first study,stool samples were tested by conventional microbiological methods and by polymerase chain reaction for parasites, and by immunoassays for Clostridium difficile. In the second study, conventional microbiology was conducted for bacteria and parasites including an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for Cryptosporidium antigen, and in a subset, immunoassays for Clostridium difficile.RESULTS In the first study Giardia lamblia was detected in 68.5% of samples, Entamoeba histolytica in 13%, Cryptosporidium in 5.6%, non-toxigenic C. difficile in 22.4%, and other bacteria in 5.2%. In the second study, E. histolytica was detected in 10% of samples, Cryptosporidium in 4.3%, G. lamblia in 1.4%, C. difficile in 5.1%, and other bacteria in 5.7% of samples.CONCLUSION These pilot data suggest that parasites are important aetiologies of diarrhoea in Bangladeshi children with malignancy. | 11 | Human leukocyte antigen B polymorphism and association between HLA-B27 and endoplasmic reticulum aminopeptidase 1 rs30187 SNP in patients with ankylosing spondylitis in Bangladesh显示文摘Objectives:To determine the association of Human leukocyte antigen B(HLA‑B)alleles with ankylosing spondylitis and the allelic association of HLAB27 with endoplasmic reticulum aminopeptidase 1(ERAP1)single-nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)rs30187 in patients with ankylosing spondylitis(AS).Methods:We studied 48 consecutively enrolled well-defined AS patients and 48 healthy controls recruited from the outpatient clinic of the rheumatology department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University(BSMMU),Dhaka,Bangladesh.To genotype HLA-B alleles from peripheral blood DNA,we designed sequence-specific primers for polymerase chain reaction.Sanger's sequencing method was used to detect the ERAP1 rs30187 SNP.The HLA-B allele distributions were compared between cases and controls.To infer an allelic association between HLA-B27 and ERAP1,allele distributions from both loci were compared using cross-tabulations.Chi-squared test or Fisher's exact test was used to quantify the association,and their strength of association was tested by odds ratio(OR)with 95%confidence interval(CI).Results:The frequency of HLA-B27 was found to be higher in AS patients(60.4%)than in healthy controls(8.3%).HLA-B27 allele had an OR of 16.8(95%CI=5.2–54.4)for the development of AS.Overall,4%of AS patients had both HLA-B27 and HLA-B40.No significant association was found between ERAP1 rs30187 SNP and HLA-B27 in patients with AS(OR=1.7,95%CI=0.5–5.6).Conclusions:HLA-B27 was significantly associated with AS in patients in Bangladesh.However,no association between ERAP1 rs30187 SNP and HLA-B27 was observed. | Md Kamrul H.Sajib Shamim Ahmed Syed A.Haq Minhaj R.Choudhury Mohammed Uddin Furkan Uddin Muhammad S.A.Khan Mohammad M.Zaman | 2022 | Rheumatology & Autoimmunity2022,2,1: | 0 |
