Assessment of temporal dynamics of snow cover and its validation with hydro-meteorological data in parts of Chenab Basin, western Himalayas显示文摘The present investigation was conducted to analyze the temporal patterns of snow cover area%(SCA%), air temperature, snowfall and river discharge in parts of Chenab basin, western Himalayas. The relationship of mean SCA% with mean air temperature and river discharge was also tested using Pearson's product-moment correlation at 95% confidence limit and further sensitivity analysis of river discharge to SCA and SCA to air temperature was performed. Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) 8-day surface reflectance product MOD09A1 was used to delineate SCA during the period 2000–2013. Moreover, variation in the lowest elevation from where snow cover area starts(LESCA) was also analyzed and its relationship with mean air temperature was also studied. Non-parametric method, Mann-Kendall test was employed to determine the trend in the SCA%, air temperature, snowfall and river discharge. The investigation carried out for three meteorological stations i.e. Batote, Reasi and Tandi revealed significant findings. At Batote and Reasi, statistically significant decreasing trends were observed over the period 2000 to 2012, for maximum, minimum and mean air temperature. Mean minimum SCA% exhibited a significant upward trend during 2000–2013 which is corroborated by the significantly increasing trend of mean annual snowfall(Tandi station) from 2000 to 2010. Further, significant decreasing trend of river discharge for the winter season at Batote station from 2000 to 2011 and decreasing trends in the maximum, minimum and mean air temperature at Batote and Reasi stations are also consistent with the increasing trend of SCA%. At both Batote and Reasi stations, mean SCA% exhibited significant negative relationship with the mean air temperature. On the other hand, LESCA exhibited positive correlation with the mean air temperature except in a few months, where negative relationship was seen. Sensitivity analysis of river discharge to SCA exhibited very low values of sensitivity coefficient in most of the months, indicating less sensitivity of river discharge to SCA. On the other hand, sensitivity coefficient of SCA to air temperature exhibited comparatively higher values which indicate SCA is more sensitive to air temperature.Retinder KOUR Nilanchal PATEL Akhouri Pramod KRISHNA 2016Science China Earth Sciences2016,59,5:3
Trends and outcomes of transarterial chemoembolization in hepatocellular carcinoma:a national survey显示文摘BACKGROUND:Transarterial chemoembolization(TACE) is a palliative procedure frequently used in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). We examined the national inpatient trends of TACE and related outcomes in the United States over the last decade.METHODS:We utilized the National Inpatient Sample(2002 to 2012) and performed trend analyses of TACE for HCC in all adult patients(age >18 years). Multivariate analyses for the outcomes of in-hospital 'procedure-related complications'(PRCs) and 'post-procedure complications'(PPCs) were performed. We also compared early(2002 to 2006) and late(2007 to 2012) eras by multivariate analyses to identify predictors of complications, healthcare resource utilization and mortality.RESULTS:Overall, 19058 patients underwent TACE for HCC where PRCs and PPCs were seen in 24.2% and 17.6% of patients, respectively. The overall trends in the use of TACE(P<0.001) and associated PRCs(P=0.006) were observed to be increasing. There was less mortality [adjusted Odds ratio(a OR):0.58; 95% CI:0.41, 0.82], reduced length of hospital stay(-1.87 days; 95% CI:-2.77,-0.97) and increased hospital charges($19232; 95% CI:11013, 27451) in the late era. Additionally, there was increased mortality(a OR:4.07; 95% CI:2.96, 5.59), PRCs(a OR:3.21; 95% CI:2.56, 4.02), and PPCs(a OR:2.70; 95% CI:2.11, 3.46) among patients with coagulopathy.CONCLUSIONS:There is an increasing trend of TACE utilization in HCC. However, the outcomes are worse in patients with coagulopathy. Although PRCs have increased, mortality has decreased in recent years. These findings should be considered during TACE evaluation in patients with HCC.Khalid Mumtaz Nishi Patel Rohan M Modi Vihang Patel Alice Hinton James Hanje Sylvester M Black Somashaker Krishna 2017Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2017,16,6:2

Influence of wellhead pressure and water cut in the optimization of oil production from gas lifted wells显示文摘The worldwide increase in energy demand necessitates the development and optimization of marginal oil fields for sustenance. In this regard, effective and economic production of fluids are heavily relied upon the artificial lift techniques as the reservoir's natural energy may not be able to deliver the fluids to the surface.Gas lift is a widely practised and successful method that is suitable for rejuvenating the oil production from such fields. In this study, the influence of critical parameters like water cut, wellhead pressure(WHP)and gas-lift gas injection rate on the output from a gas lifted well was analysed.A significant reduction in the oil production was observed with the increase in water cut.For a fixed gas injection rate of 1 Mmscf/day,the production decreased by 26.90%when the water cut increased from 15%to 30%and further by 50.80%when the water cut reached 45%.An increase in the gas injection rate from 1 Mmscf/day to 8 Mmscf/day resulted in an increase in the production rate by 29.21%,40.48%and 56.56%for 15%,30%,and 45%water cut conditions, respectively. It was observed that there is a drop in the oil rate with the increase in WHP for a constant gas injection rate.An increase in the WHP from 100 psi to 300 psi resulted in a drop in the oil production rate by 11.01%,11.78%and 12.74%for 15%,30%and 45%water cut conditions, respectively. The study sheds light on the significance of optimizing the critical parameters to maximize the production from a well, with severely affected productivity, using a continuous gas lift system.S.Hari Shanker Krishna Manav Patel Pooja Bhatia Rakesh Kumar Vij 2022Petroleum Research2022,7,2:1

Reviving Fertility:Phytochemicals as Natural Allies in the Fight against Non-genetic Male Infertility显示文摘Background:Male infertility poses a growing challenge to the healthcare system, with its prevalence on the rise.Unhealthy lifestyle, food, and addictions such as smoking, alcoholism, etc.accelerate the occurrence. While several approaches are being investigated to prevent and treat this condition, each therapeutic approach has its drawbacks.Traditional medications continue to play a crucial role in the healthcare system. In recent years, there has been a shift towards determining the efficacy of phytochemicals(or,herbal drugs)as remedies. Objective:To evaluate the effect of various herbs, plant, metabolites,or a part of plant in management of non-genetic male infertility. Methods:The male infertility-associated keywords were searched in PubMed,excluding those non-English writen papers.A total of 146 pertinent and closely connected records were included for full reading and inclusion in the systemic evaluation. Results:The manuscript focuses on individual herbal drug components, their active ingredients, their role in improving the condition and quality of life, and decreasing the prevalence of male infertility. Conclusion:Herbal medicinal plants show promising outcomes to treat male infertility.Herbal alternatives are appealing and have regained popularity. The future holds promise for some of these herbal treatments to advance with many showing improved outcomes in males with infertility issues.Vivek P.Chavda Shreya S Sonak Pankti C.Balar Krupa Vyas Pranali Palandurkar Komal Mule Krishna Patel Vivek Hala Dixa A.Vaghela Devarshi Acharya Akta Vaishnav Jimil Gandhi Vasso Apostolopoulos 2024Clinical Complementary Medicine and Pharmacology2024,4,1:0
Exposure to cuticular bacteria can alter host behavior in a funnel-weaving spider显示文摘Contact with environmental microbes are arguably the most common species interaction in which any animal participates.Studies have noted diverse relationships between hosts and resident microbes, which can have strong consequences for host development, physiology, and behavior. Many of these studies focus specifically on pathogens or beneficial microbes, while the benign microbes,of which the majority of bacteria could be described, are often ignored. Here,we explore the nature of the relationships between the grass spider Agelenopsis pennsylvanica and bacteria collected from their cuticles in situ.First, using culture-based methods,we identified a portion of the cuticular bacterial communities that are naturally associated with these spiders. Then,we topically exposed spiders to a subset of these bacterial monocultures to estimate how bacterial exposure may alter 3 host behavioral traits:boldness, aggressiveness, and activity level. We conducted these behavioral assays 3 times before and 3 times after topical application, and compared the changes observed in each trait with spiders that were exposed to a sterile control treatment. We identified 9 species of bacteria from the cuticles of 36 spiders and exposed groups of 20 spiders to 1 of 4 species of cuticular bacteria. We found that exposure to Dermacoccus nishinomiyaensis and Staphylococcus saprophyticus was associated with a lO-fold decrease in the foraging aggressiveness of spiders toward prey in their web.Since bacterial exposure did not have survival consequences for hosts, these data suggest that interactions with cuticular bacteria, even non- pathogenic bacteria, could alter host behavior.Olivia B.PARKS Krishna S.KOTHAMASU Michael J.ZIEMBA Morgan BENNER Madison CRISTINZIANO Serena KANTZ Daniel LEGER John LI Devanshi PATEL William RABUSE Samantha SUTTON Amandi WILSON Priyanka BAIREDDY Aditi A.KAMAT Mariah J.CALLAS Matthew J.BORGES Marysa N.SCALIA Emily KLENK Gabrielle SCHERER Maria M.MARTINEZ Sarah R.GRUBS Nancy KAUFMANN Jonathan N.PRUITT Carl N.KEISER 2018Current Zoology2018,64,6:0
