| 2 | KOH activated carbon derived from biomass-banana fibers as an efficient negative electrode in high performance asymmetric supercapacitor显示文摘Here we demonstrate the fabrication, electrochemical performance and application of an asymmetric supercapacitor(AS) device constructed with β–Ni(OH)_2/MWCNTs as positive electrode and KOH activated honeycomb-like porous carbon(K-PC) derived from banana fibers as negative electrode. Initially,the electrochemical performance of hydrothermally synthesized β–Ni(OH)_2/MWCNTs nanocomposite and K-PC was studied in a three-electrode system using 1 M KOH. These materials exhibited a specific capacitance(Cs) of 1327 F/g and 324 F/g respectively at a scan rate of 10 m V/s. Further, the AS device i.e.,β–Ni(OH)_2/MWCNTs//K-PC in 1 M KOH solution, demonstrated a Cs of 156 F/g at scan rate of 10 m V/s in a broad cell voltage of 0–2.2 V. The device demonstrated a good rate capability by maintaining a Cs of 59 F/g even at high current density(25 A/g). The device also offered high energy density of 63 Wh/kg with maximum power density of 5.2 kW/kg. The AS device exhibited excellent cycle life with 100% capacitance retention at 5000 th cycle at a high current density of 25 A/g. | 3 | Evaluation of a locked nucleic acid form of antisense oligo targeting HIF-1α in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘BACKGROUND Hypoxia-inducible factor 1α(HIF-1α) is a gene that regulates tumor survival,neovascularization and invasion. Overexpression of HIF-1α correlates with poor prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). RO7070179 is a HIF-1α inhibitor that decreases HIF-1α mRNA and its downstream targets, it could be a potential treatment in HCC.AIM To evaluate safety and preliminary activity of RO7070179 in patients with previously treated HCC, with focus on a patient with prolonged response to RO7070179.METHODS In the preclinical study of RO7070179 in a HCC xenograft model, the mice wereseparated into 4 groups with each group received doses of 0, 3, 10 and 30 mg/kg for total 10 doses. HCC patients who failed at least one line of systemic treatment,received RO7070179 as a weekly infusion, each cycle is 6 wk. We evaluated the safety and HIF-1α mRNA levels of RO7070179.RESULTS Preclinical evaluation of RO7070179 in orthotopic HCC xenograft model showed no significant differences in HCC tumor weight between the 3 and 10 mg/kg groups. However, dose of 10 mg/kg of RO7070179, has shown 76% reduction of the amount of HIF-1α mRNA in HCC tissue. In the phase 1 b study of RO7070179 in previously treated HCC patients, 8 out of 9 were evaluable: 1 achieved PR and1 SD. The patient with PR responded after 2 cycles treatments, which has been maintained for 12 cycles. This patient also showed reduction in perfusion of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(DCE-MRI) after 1 cycle of treatment. After 1 cycle of treatment, both patients with PR and SD showed decrease in HIF-1α mRNA at the root of biopsies(each biopsy was divided into 2 specimens, the tip and the root).CONCLUSION RO7070179 can reduce HIF-1α mRNA level in HCC patients with SD or PR. | 4 | Evaluation of sampling strategies to estimate crown biomass显示文摘Background:Depending on tree and site characteristics crown biomass accounts for a significant portion of the total aboveground biomass in the tree.Crown biomass estimation is useful for different purposes including evaluating the economic feasibility of crown utilization for energy production or forest products,fuel load assessments and fire management strategies,and wildfire modeling.However,crown biomass is difficult to predict because of the variability within and among species and sites.Thus the allometric equations used for predicting crown biomass should be based on data collected with precise and unbiased sampling strategies.In this study,we evaluate the performance different sampling strategies to estimate crown biomass and to evaluate the effect of sample size in estimating crown biomass.Methods:Using data collected from 20 destructively sampled trees,we evaluated 11 different sampling strategies using six evaluation statistics:bias,relative bias,root mean square error(RMSE),relative RMSE,amount of biomass sampled,and relative biomass sampled.We also evaluated the performance of the selected sampling strategies when different numbers of branches(3,6,9,and 12)are selected from each tree.Tree specific log linear model with branch diameter and branch length as covariates was used to obtain individual branch biomass.Results:Compared to all other methods stratified sampling with probability proportional to size estimation technique produced better results when three or six branches per tree were sampled.However,the systematic sampling with ratio estimation technique was the best when at least nine branches per tree were sampled.Under the stratified sampling strategy,selecting unequal number of branches per stratum produced approximately similar results to simple random sampling,but it further decreased RMSE when information on branch diameter is used in the design and estimation phases.Conclusions:Use of auxiliary information in design or estimation phase reduces the RMSE produced by a sampling strategy.However,this is attained by having to sample larger amount of biomass.Based on our finding we would recommend sampling nine branches per tree to be reasonably efficient and limit the amount of fieldwork. | Krishna P Poudel Hailemariam Temesgen Andrew N Gray | 2015 | Forest Ecosystems2015,2,1: | 2 |
