| 2 | Phylogenetic and climatic constraints drive flowering phenological patterns in a subtropical nature reserve显示文摘Aims Exploring flowering patterns and detecting processes are essential when probing into the nature of reproductive traits during the life history and the interactions among different evolutionary clades.such patterns are believed to be influenced by many factors,but quantifying these impacts at the community-level remains poorly understood.Methods We investigated the flowering patterns based on long-term her-barium records in a given area from subtropical forest regions in southern China.We obtained 5258 herbarium voucher specimens collected from the Dinghushan National Nature reserve(DNNr)belonging to 166 families,943 genera and 2059 species and exam-ined the month when each species was flowering during the period 1920-2007.Important Findings The results showed that plants flowered sequentially almost through-out the whole year,showing the characteristics of subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests.Flowering spectrums of the entire flora and the four life forms exhibited a clear unimodality that is probably typical of subtropical forest communities.Flowering pat-terns of the DNNr were positively correlated with mean rainfall,mean air temperature and mean sunshine duration.median flowering dates of the 38 large species-rich families ranged from early april to late august;25 families exhibited significant unimodal distribution patterns,whereas the remaining families were unclear or bimodal.median flowering dates of the 10 most species-rich genera ranged from middle may to later July.While the results are consist-ent with climatic factors playing a general role in flowering patterns,median flowering dates varied significantly among species-rich families and genera,suggesting that phylogenies could provide spe-cific constraints in subtropical forests. | Nan-Cai Pei WJohn Kress Bu-Feng Chen David LErickson Khoon Meng Wong Jin-Long Zhang Wan-Hui Ye Zhong-Liang Huang Dian-Xiang Zhang | 2015 | Journal of Plant Ecology2015，8，2： | 4 |
| 3 | Feasibility and accuracy of coronary imaging in elderly patients using the 64-row multi-detector computed tomography: a correlation study with conventional coronary angiography显示文摘Background Elderly patients generally have higher occurrence of coronary calcification, increased heart rate and difficulty with prolonged breath-holding. The aim of our study was to investigate the feasibility and accuracy of using 64-row multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) in the assessment of coronary artery stenoses in elderly patients. Methods One hundred and fifty two patients with suspected or known coronary artery disease were divided into 4 groups according to their age (Group A: 40-49 years,n=34; Group B: 50-59 years, n=57; Group C: 60-69 years, n=48; Group D: 70 years and above; n=13). Coronary CT angiography (CTA) using a 64-row MDCT was performed and the findings were compared with that of conventional coronary angiography (CCA).Using axial images, multi-planar reconstructions (MPR) and maximum intensity projections (MIP), coronary segments of lumen diameter = 1.5mm were analyzed for the presence of significant stenosis (= 50% ). Results Percentages of poor image quality from coronary CTA preventing reliable correlations with CCA were 21%, 14%, 19% and 62% in Groups A to D respectively. Patients in Group D had significantly higher calcium scores compared with the other groups (P<0.001). In patients where CTA images were of acceptable quality, percentages of accurate correlations with CCA were 89.8%, 93.4%, 86.6% and 78.0% for Groups A to D respectively.There were no significant difference in serum creatinine, heart rate and contrast volume between the 4 groups. Conclusions The 64-row MDCT coronary angiography was less accurate and feasible for patients aged 70 years or above due to heavy coronary calcification and inability to perform a satisfactory breath-hold. | 6 | T4 cervical esophageal cancer cured with modern chemoradiotherapy: A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND T4 esophageal cancer portends a poor prognosis,particularly when it is complicated by a tracheoesophageal fistula(TEF)either resulting from disease or occurring as a complication of treatment.Patients with TEF that occurs during treatment are commonly treated with palliative intent because fistula-associated treatment complications such as aspiration pneumonia and mediastinitis are associated with high morbidity and mortality.To date,there is no clear evidence on the optimal treatment of T4 esophageal cancer,particularly when a TEF formation occurs.CASE SUMMARY A 67-year-old gentleman who presented with dysphagia and weight loss.Endoscopy and imaging revealed a T4N1M0 cervical esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.He received image-guided intensity-modulated radiation therapy,with concurrent weekly carboplatin(area under curve 2 mg/mL per minute)and paclitaxel(50 mg/m2 of body surface area).One week after treatment initiation(16.2 Gy thus far),he developed cough on swallowing.A TEF was detected on image-guided radiation therapy using cone-beam computed tomography during the treatment course,for which a tracheal stent was inserted.After discussing the risks and morbidity of continuing treatment,he resumed chemoradiotherapy with an additional radiation dose of 45 Gy in 25 fractions.Three months after completion of chemoradiotherapy,he developed an esophageal stricture that required esophageal stenting and dilatation.The patient remains cancer-free at two year on follow-up.Complete response of esophageal cancer was evident on post-treatment endoscopy and computed tomography imaging,with successful closure of TEF.CONCLUSION This case highlights that successful curative treatment for esophageal cancer complicated by a TEF is possible using novel chemotherapeutic regimens and modern radiation technologies. | Chia Ching Lee Chong Ming Yeo Wee Khoon Ng Akash Verma Jeremy CS Tey | 2020 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2020，8，10： | 2 |
