| 3 | Feeding of Riptortus pedestris on soybean plants, the primary cause of soybean staygreen syndrome in the Huang-Huai-Hai river basin显示文摘Staygreen syndrome or Zhengqing in soybean has recently become a major issue for Chinese growers in the Huang-Huai-Hai river basin.Although previous studies revealed that staygreen can be induced when pods/seeds are damaged, it is unknown whether virus infection or insect infestation causes staygreen.To determine whether viral infection causes staygreen, a survey of soybean staygreen incidence in the Huang-Huai-Hai river basin was conducted in 2016 and 2017.Diseased samples were collected and analyzed using DAS-ELISA for Soybean mosaic virus, Watermelon mosaic virus, Bean pod mottle virus, Cucumber mosaic virus, and Bean common mosaic virus.The survey showed that the severity of soybean staygreen syndrome was most prevalent in Beijing, Henan, Shaanxi, and some parts of Shandong provinces, with yield losses from 0 to nearly 100%, but only a small fraction of samples were positive for the tested viruses.A field cage experiment and an insecticide treatment field trial were conducted to determine the contribution of the bean bug, Riptortus pedestris, to staygreen incidence.The field cage experiment showed that R.pedestris treatment resulted in shorter plants, more empty pods, increased numbers of abnormal seeds, and decreased yields.The field experiment showed that there were fewer R.pedestris and less soybean staygreen incidence in fields treated with insecticide than in untreated control fields.Together, these results suggest that R.pedestris infestation rather than virus infection induces staygreen syndrome and that growers in this region can mitigate staygreen syndrome via bean bug control. | Kai Li Xinxin Zhang Jianqiu Guo Hannah Penn Tingting Wu Lin Li Hong Jiang Lidan Chang Cunxiang Wu Tianfu Han | 2019 | The Crop Journal2019,7,3: | 30 |
| 4 | Screening and breeding of high taxol producing fungi by genome shuffling显示文摘To apply the fundamental principles of genome shuffling in breeding of taxol-producing fungi, Nodulisporium sylviform was used as starting strain in this work. The procedures of protoplast fusion and genome shuffling were studied. Three hereditarily stable strains with high taxol production were obtained by four cycles of genome shuffling. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of taxol produced was confirmed using thin-layer chromatography (TLC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and LC-MS. A high taxol producing fungus, Nodulisporium sylviform F4-26, was obtained, which produced 516.37 μg/L taxol. | 5 | Expenditure and financial burden for the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer in China:a hospital.based,multicenter,cross-sectional survey显示文摘Background: The increasing prevalence of colorectal cancer(CRC) in China and the paucity of information about relevant expenditure highlight the necessity of better understanding the financial burden and effect of CRC diagnosis and treatment. We performed a survey to quantify the direct medical and non-medical expenditure as well as the resulting financial burden of CRC patients in China.Methods: We conducted a multicenter, cross-sectional survey in 37 tertiary hospitals in 13 provinces across China between 2012 and 2014. Each enrolled patient was interviewed using a structured questionnaire. All expenditure data were inflated to the 2014 Chinese Yuan(CNY; 1 CNY = 0.163 USD). We quantified the overall expenditure and financial burden and by subgroup(hospital type, age at diagnosis, sex, education, occupation, insurance type, household income, clinical stage, pathologic type, and therapeutic regimen). We then performed generalized linear modeling to determine the factors associated with overall expenditure.Results: A total of 2356 patients with a mean age of 57.4 years were included, 57.1 % of whom were men; 13.9% of patients had stage I cancer; and the average previous-year household income was 54,525 CNY.The overall average direct expenditure per patient was estimated to be 67,408 CNY, and the expenditures for stage Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ, and Ⅳ disease were 56,099 CNY, 59,952 CNY, 67,292 CNY, and 82,729 CNY, respectively. Non-medical expenditure accounted for 8.3%of the overall expenditure. The 1-year out-of-pocket expenditure of a newly diagnosed patient was 32,649 CNY, which accounted for 59.9% of their previous-year household income and caused 75.0% of families to suffer an unmanageable financial burden. Univariate analysis showed that financial burden and overall expenditure differed in almost all subgroups(P < 0.05), except for sex. Multivariate analysis showed that patients who were treated in specialized hospitals and those who were diagnosed with adenocarcinoma or diagnosed at a later stage were likely to spend more,whereas those with a lower household income and those who underwent surgery spent less(all P < 0.05).Conclusions: For patients in China, direct expenditure for the diagnosis and treatment of CRC seemed catastrophic,and non-medical expenditure was non-ignorable. | 6 | Proteomic analysis reveals molecular biological details in varioliform gastritis without Helicobacter pylori infection显示文摘AIM:To investigate and elucidate the molecular mechanism underlying varioliform gastritis for early detection,prevention and intervention of gastric cancer.METHODS:A combination of two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry was used to detect the differentially expressed proteins between varioliform gastritis and matched normal mucosa.The selected proteins were confirmed by Western blotting and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) in additional samples and the function of some proteins in varioliform gastritis was analyzed by bio-method preliminarily.RESULTS:We identified 21 differentially expressed proteins in varioliform gastritis,and compared them with matched normal mucosa.Eleven proteins were upregulated and ten downregulated in varioliform gastritis when compared with the same proteins in individualmatched normal gastric mucosa.These proteins are related to metabolism,oxidation,cytoskeleton,apoptosis,signal transduction and other aspects of cells.Two novel proteins,thioredoxin domain-containing protein 5(TXNDC5) upregulated in varioliform gastritis,and neuropolypeptide h3 [phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein 1(PEBP1)] downregulated in varioliform gastritis,were further investigated.Their expressions were validated by Western blotting and RT-PCR in 12 cases of varioliform gastritis which was matched with normal mucosa.The expression level of PEBP1 in varioliform gastritis was significantly lower(P<0.05) while that of TXNDC5 was significantly higher than that in matched normal gastric mucosa(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:There are some changes of protein expression in varioliform gastritis.Downregulation of PEBP1 and upregulation of TXNDC5 are involved in the development of varioliform gastritis. | Lin Zhang Yan-Hong Hou Kai Wu Jun-Shan Zhai Nan Lin | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,29: | 22 |

| 10 | Targeting ferroptosis suppresses osteocyte glucolipotoxicity and alleviates diabetic osteoporosis显示文摘Diabetic osteoporosis(DOP) is the leading complication continuously threatening the bone health of patients with diabetes. A key pathogenic factor in DOP is loss of osteocyte viability. However, the mechanism of osteocyte death remains unclear. Here, we identified ferroptosis, which is iron-dependent programmed cell death, as a critical mechanism of osteocyte death in murine models of DOP. The diabetic microenvironment significantly enhanced osteocyte ferroptosis in vitro, as shown by the substantial lipid peroxidation, iron overload, and aberrant activation of the ferroptosis pathway. RNA sequencing showed that heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) expression was notably upregulated in ferroptotic osteocytes. Further findings revealed that HO-1 was essential for osteocyte ferroptosis in DOP and that its promoter activity was controlled by the interaction between the upstream NRF2 and c-JUN transcription factors. Targeting ferroptosis or HO-1 efficiently rescued osteocyte death in DOP by disrupting the vicious cycle between lipid peroxidation and HO-1 activation, eventually ameliorating trabecular deterioration. | 11 | YAP promotes osteogenesis and suppresses adipogenic differentiation by regulatingβ-catenin signaling显示文摘YAP(yes-associated protein) is a transcriptional factor that is negatively regulated by Hippo pathway, a conserved pathway for the development and size control of multiple organs. The exact function of YAP in bone homeostasis remains controversial. Here we provide evidence for YAP's function in promoting osteogenesis, suppressing adipogenesis, and thus maintaining bone homeostasis.YAP is selectively expressed in osteoblast(OB)-lineage cells. Conditionally knocking out Yap in the OB lineage in mice reduces cell proliferation and OB differentiation and increases adipocyte formation, resulting in a trabecular bone loss. Mechanistically, YAP interacts with β-catenin and is necessary for maintenance of nuclear β-catenin level and Wnt/β-catenin signaling. Expression of β-catenin in YAP-deficient BMSCs(bone marrow stromal cells) diminishes the osteogenesis deficit. | 12 | Effect of Dongchongxiacao(Cordyceps) therapy on contrast-induced nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes and renal insufficiency undergoing coronary angiography显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To study the protective effects of Dongchongxiacao(Cordyceps)(DCXC) on contrast-induced nephropathy(CIN) in patients with type 2 diabetes and renal insufficiency undergoing coronary angiography.METHODS: A total of 120 patients with type 2 diabetes whose estimated glomerular filtration rate(e GFR) was ≤ 60 m L/minee grou·1.73 m2,were divided randomly into thrps,basic treatment group(n = 41),standard DCXC therapy group(n = 39,2-g corbrin capsules,3 times/d,3 days before and after angiography),and intensive DCXC therapy group(n = 40,3-g corbrin capsules,3 times/d,3 days before and after angiography). Serum creatinine(Scr)and e GFR were assessed at the time of admission to hospital,and on days 1,2 and 3 after angiography. Urine neutrophil-gelatinase-associated-lipocalin(NGAL),kidney injury molecule-1(KIM-1) and interleukin-18(IL-18) were measured before angiography and at day 1 after angiography for all patients. The primary end point was the prevalence of CIN. The secondary end point was a 25% or greater reduction in e GFR.RESULTS: CIN occurred in 11 of 120 patients(9.17 %). The prevalence of CIN was lower in the DCXC treatment groups than in the basic treatment group(P < 0.05),with a more significant decrease in the prevalence of CIN in the intensive DCXC therapy group(P < 0.01). Compared with the basic treatment group,a lower proportion of patients in the DCXC treatment groups had an e GFR decrease of 25% or greater(P < 0.05); patients with an e GFR decrease of 25% or greater accounted for an even lower proportion in the intensive DCXC therapy group(P < 0.01). | 13 | Clinical profiles and outcomes of acute type A aortic dissection and intramural hematoma in the current era: lessons from the first registry of aortic dissection in China显示文摘Background::Acute type A aortic dissection(ATAAD)and acute type A intramural hematoma(ATAIMH)are life-threatening diseases with high mortality.To better understand their clinical features in the Chinese population,we analyzed the data from the first Registry of Aortic Dissection in China(Sino-RAD)to promote the understanding and management of the diseases.Methods::All patients with ATAAD and ATAIMH enrolled in Sino-RAD from January 1,2012 to December 31,2016 were involved.The data of patients’selection,history,symptoms,management,outcomes,and postoperation complications were analyzed in the study.The continuous variables were compared using the Student’s t test for normal distributions and the Mann-Whitney U test for non-normal distributions.Categorical variables were compared using the Chi-square test or Fisher exact test.Results::A total of 1582 patients with ATAAD and 130 patients with ATAIMH were included.The mean age of all patients was 48.4 years.Patients with ATAAD were significantly younger than patients with ATAIMH(48.9 years vs.55.6 years,P<0.001).For the total cohort,males were dominant,but the male ratio of patients with ATAAD was significantly higher compared to those with ATAIMH(P=0.01).The time range from the onset of symptom to hospitalization was 2.0 days.More patients of ATAIMH had hypertension than that of ATAAD(82.3%vs.67.6%,P<0.05).Chest and back pain were the most common clinical symptoms.Computerized tomography(CT)was the most common initial diagnostic imaging modality.84.7%received surgical treatment and in-hospital mortality was 5.3%.Patients with ATAAD mainly received surgical treatment(89.6%),while most patients with ATAIMH received medical treatment(39.2%)or endovascular repair(35.4%).Conclusions::Our study suggests that doctors should comprehensively use clinical examination and genetic background screening for patients with ATAAD and ATAIMH and further shorten the time range from symptoms onset to intervention,achieving early diagnosis and treatment,thereby reducing the mortality rate of patients with aortic dissection in China.We should standardize the procedures of aortic dissection treatment and improve people’s understanding.Meanwhile,the curing and transferring efficiency should also be improved. | Wei-Xun Duan Wei-Guang Wang Lin Xia Chao Xue Bo Yu Kai Ren Wei Yi Hong-Liang Liang Xiao-Chao Dong Jian Zuo Jin-Cheng Liu Shi-Qiang Yu Ding-Hua Yi | 2021 | Chinese Medical Journal2021,,8: | 15 |

| 17 | Relationship Between Measured Friction Coefficients and Two Tread Groove Design Parameters for Footwear Pads显示文摘The shoe sole geometrical design parameters are believed to be important factors affecting the coefficient of friction (COF) between the shoe/floor interface. This study is concerned with the relationship between the measured COF and the tread groove orientation and width on the footwear pad. Friction meas-urements using the Brungraber Mark Ⅱ slipmeter were conducted. Six tread groove width/orientations de-signs on the footwear pads under 27 footwear material/floor/contamination conditions were tested. The re-sults show that tread orientation and width affect the measured COF significantly. Wider grooved footwear pads result in higher COF values and footwear pads with tread grooves perpendicular to the friction meas-urement direction have higher COF values. A regression model using measured COF as the dependent variable and tread groove width, groove orientation, footwear material, floor, and contamination conditions as independent variables was established. | 19 | Methylprednisolone promotes recovery of neurological function after spinal cord injury: association with Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway activation显示文摘Some studies have indicated that the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is activated following spinal cord injury,and expression levels of specific proteins,including low-density lipoprotein receptor related protein-6 phosphorylation,β-catenin,and glycogen synthase kinase-3β,are significantly altered.We hypothesized that methylprednisolone treatment contributes to functional recovery after spinal cord injury by inhibiting apoptosis and activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.In the current study,30 mg/kg methylprednisolone was injected into rats with spinal cord injury immediately post-injury and at 1 and 2 days post-injury.Basso,Beattie,and Bresnahan scores showed that methylprednisolone treatment significantly promoted locomotor functional recovery between 2 and 6 weeks post-injury.The number of surviving motor neurons increased,whereas the lesion size significantly decreased following methylprednisolone treatment at 7 days post-injury.Additionally,caspase-3,caspase-9,and Bax protein expression levels and the number of apoptotic cells were reduced at 3 and 7days post-injury,while Bcl-2 levels at 7 days post-injury were higher in methylprednisolone-treated rats compared with saline-treated rats.At 3 and 7 days post-injury,methylprednisolone up-regulated expression and activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway,including low-density lipoprotein receptor related protein-6 phosphorylation,β-catenin,and glycogen synthase kinase-3β phosphorylation.These results indicate that methylprednisolone-induced neuroprotection may correlate with activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. | Gong-biao Lu Fu-wen Niu Ying-chun Zhang Lin DU Zhi-yuan Liang Yuan Gao Ting-zhen Yan Zhi-kui Nie Kai Gao | 2016 | Neural Regeneration Research2016,11,11: | 11 |
| 20 | Porosity and permeability evolution and evaluation in anisotropic porosity multiscale-multiphase-multicomponent structure显示文摘Based on the hybrid hypersingular integral equation-lattice Boltzmann methods (HHIE-LBM), the porosity and permeability evolution and evaluation process in anisotropic saturated porosity multiscale-multiphase-multicomponent (ASP-MS-MP-MC) structures under ultra high temperature and pressure conditions was analyzed on parallel CPU and GPU platforms. First, virtual physical models at multi-spatial scales (2 μm, 5 μm and 10 μm) were restructured by computerized microtomography technology and data. Second, using HHIE-LBM methods, the anisotropic porosity and permeability tensor at core level and pore level under ultra high temperature and pressure conditions were calculated. Third, the evolution and evaluation process of the porosity and permeability as a function of multi temporal spatial scales was investigated.
