| 1 | Tribology of Ti6Al4V: A review显示文摘The deleterious innate attribute of Ti6 Al4 V, the workhorse material among the alloy series of titanium is its incompetent tribo-behavior. Infinite surface modification techniques, viz., the accretion of adherent appendage layers, diffusion hardening, infusion of residual stresses, microstructural evolution, and phase transformations were attempted to enhance the wear resistance of the alloy. The need lies to establish a bridge between the indigenous material properties and the tribo-characteristics of Ti6 Al4 V so that the enforced improvement techniques can raise the barriers of its applicability. A critical review of the microstructural transitions, mechanisms governing tribo-behavior and the parametric conditions leading to material removal at dry sliding conditions of Ti6 Al4 V, falls under the scope of this manuscript. | 2 | Characterization of cytotoxic compound from mangrove derived fungi Irpex hydnoides VB4显示文摘Objective:To investigate the cytotoxic activity of endophytic fungi isolated from mangrove fungi.Methods:In the present study the DNA was isolated and the ITS region of 5.8s rRNA was amplified using specific primers ITS 1 and ITS4 and sequence was determined using automated sequencers.Blast search sequence similarity was found against the existing non redundant nucleotide sequence database thus,identified as Aspergilus flavus,Hyporcaea lixii,Aspergillus niger,Eutorium amstelodami,Irpex hydnoides and Neurospora crassa.Among the seven isolates, one fungi Irpex hydnoides was selected for further studies.The fungi were grown in sabouraud broth for five days and filtrate were separated and subjected to ethyl acetate for further studies. Results:Nearly half(49.25%) of the extracts showed activity(IC_(50) of 125 μ g/mL).These values were within the cutoff point of the National Cancer Institute criteria for cytotoxicity(IC_(50)<20 μ g/mL) in the screening of crude plant extracts.The GC MS analysis revealed that the active principals might be Tetradecane(6.26%) with the RT 8.606.Conclusions:It is clear from the present study that mangrove fungi with bioactive metabolites can be expected to provide high quality biological material for high throughout biochemical,anti cancer screening programmes.The results help us conclude that me potential of using metabolic engineering and post genomic approaches to isolate more novel bioactive compounds and to make their possible commercial application is not far off. | B Valentin Bhimba DA Agnel Defora Franco Geena Mary Jose Jibi Merin Mathew Elsa Lycias Joel | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,3: | 3 |

| 7 | Valencene-rich fraction from Vetiveria zizanioides exerts immunostimulatory effects in vitro and in mice显示文摘Objective:To decipher the responsible compound present in the aqueous root extract of Vetiveria zizanioides which has tremendous immunomodulatory activity.Methods:Different fractions of the water extract were collected and analyzed for immunomodulatory activity by analyzing in vitro phagocytic activity and nitric oxide production.One fraction VF3 was selected and further analyzed for possible compounds by high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with a mass spectrometer.The in vitro immunomodulatory parameters such as phagocytic index,nitrite content,and tumor necrosis factor-α production in murine macrophages were analyzed.In vivo studies,sheep red blood cell induced haemagglutination titer,the number of antibody-producing cells,and sheep red blood cell induced delayed-type hypersensitivity were analyzed.Cytotoxic studies in L929 normal fibroblasts were also performed.Results:One of the fractions,VF3,was selected and confirmed the presence of an active compound valencene.The in vitro immunomodulatory parameters were significantly(P<0.05)increased by valencene treatment.In vivo studies in Swiss albino mice showed that valencene could significantly(P<0.05)increase haemagglutination titer,the number of antibody-producing cells,and delayed-type hypersensitivity.Cytotoxic studies also showed that valencene did not cause any morphological changes and DNA damage in normal fibroblasts.Conclusions:Valencene possesses immunomodulatory activities and can be commercially exploited for its immunostimulatory potentials. | V.S.Sunitha Sebastian Jose Midhun M.A.Sunil E.K.Radhakrishnan Jyothis Mathew | 2021 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2021,11,8: | 1 |
