12Mental Foramen:A Predictor of Age and Gender and Guide for Various Procedures显示文摘Background:The distance from the inferior border of mental foramen(MF)to lower border of mandible remains constant throughout the life.Considering this fact the present study was carried out to determine role of MF in age and gender estimation and also its importance in planning various treatments.Aims and Objective:(1)To determine the most common type and shape of MF 2)To measure the height of the mandibular body(H),the distance between the superior margin of the MF to the alveolar crest(SM-AC),the distance between the superior margin of the MF to the inferior border of the mandible(SM-IB),the distance between the inferior margin of the MF to the inferior border(IM-IB)on the right side and left side.(3)To compare the above measurements for age and gender determination.(4)To determine effect of various factors on above measurements(5)to evaluate whether any significant difference in measurement occurs on right and left side.(6)To derive a regression equation for age estimation.Materials and Methods:A total of 300 Orthopantomogram were studied.Measurements such as H,SM-AC,SM-IB and IM-IB were carried out on both sides on type II MF in males and females in all the six age groups.Statistical analysis was carried using IBM SPSS version 24 to determine differences in measurements and linear regression analysis was carried out to determine age of individuals.Result:The most common appearance of MF was type II and shape was oval.Statistically significant differences occurred in measurements using which regressive equation for age estimation was derived for males&females. Conclusion:MF,being a stable landmark in mandible, serves as a good indicator for the determination of age and gender.Hence, using certain measurements related to MF,it can help in determining the age of the individual.Further, its position and distance from the alveolar crest serve as a guide for orthognathic surgeries, implant placement, and pre-prosthetic surgery.Vijay K Asrani Jigna S Shah 2018Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine2018,4,2:0
13Costs incurred by patients with drugsusceptible pulmonary tuberculosis in semiurban and rural settings of Western India显示文摘Background:India reports the highest number of tuberculosis(TB)cases worldwide.Poverty has a dual impact as it increases the risk of TB and exposes the poor to economic hardship when they develop TB.Our objective was to estimate the costs incurred by patients with drug-susceptible TB in Bhavnagar(western India)using an adapted World Health Organization costing tool. Methods:We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study of adults, notified in the public sector and being treated for drug-susceptible pulmonary TB during January-June 2019,in six urban and three rural blocks of Bhavnagar region,Gujarat state,India. The direct and indirect TB-related costs,as well as patients’coping strategies, were assessed for the overall care of TB till treatment completion.Catastrophic costs were defined as total costs>20%of annual household income(excluding any amount received from cash transfer programs or borrowed).Median and interquartile range(IQR)was used to summarize patient costs. The median costs between any two groups were compared using the median test. The association between any two categorical variables was tested by the Pearson chi-squared test. All costs were described in US dollars(USD).During the study period,on average, one USD equalled 70 Indian Rupees. Results:Of 458 patients included,70%were male,62%had no formal education,71%lived in urban areas, and 96%completed TB treatment. The median(IQR)total costs were USD 8(5-28),direct medical costs were USD 0(0-0),direct non-medical costs were USD 3(2-4)and indirect costs were USD 6(3-13).Among direct non-medical costs, travel cost(median=USD 3,IQR:2-4)to attend health facilities were the most prominent, whereas the indirect costs were mainly contributed by the patient’s loss of wages(median=USD 3,IQR:0-6).Four percent of patients faced catastrophic costs,11%borrowed money to cover costs and 7%lost their employment;the median working days lost to TB was 30(IQR:15-45).A majority(88%)of patients received a median USD 43(IQR:41-43)as part of a cash transfer program for TB patients. Conclusions:Treatment completion was high and the costs incurred by TB patients were low in this setting. However, negative financial consequences occur even in low-cost settings. The role of universal cash transfer programs in such settings requires further study.Mihir P.Rupani Adithya Cattamanchi Priya B.Shete William M.Vollmer Sanjib Basu Jigna D.Dave 2020Infectious Diseases of Poverty2020,9,5:0
14Deep Learning-Based Model for Detection of Brinjal Weed in the Era of Precision Agriculture显示文摘The overgrowth of weeds growing along with the primary crop in the fields reduces crop production.Conventional solutions like hand weeding are labor-intensive,costly,and time-consuming;farmers have used herbicides. The application of herbicide is effective but causes environmental and health concerns.Hence,Precision Agriculture(PA)suggests the variable spraying of herbicides so that herbicide chemicals do not affect the primary plants.Motivated by the gap above,we proposed a Deep Learning(DL)based model for detecting Eggplant(Brinjal)weed in this paper. The key objective of this study is to detect plant and non-plant(weed)parts from crop images. With the help of object detection, the precise location of weeds from images can be achieved. The dataset is collected manually from a private farm in Gandhinagar,Gujarat,India. The combined approach of classification and object detection is applied in the proposed model. The Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)model is used to classify weed and non-weed images;further DL models are applied for object detection. We have compared DL models based on accuracy, memory usage, and Intersection over Union(IoU).ResNet-18,YOLOv3,CenterNet,and Faster RCNN are used in the proposed work.CenterNet outperforms all other models in terms of accuracy,i.e.,88%.Compared to other models,YOLOv3 is the least memory-intensive,utilizing 4.78 GB to evaluate the data.Jigna Patel Anand Ruparelia Sudeep Tanwar Fayez Alqahtani Amr Tolba Ravi Sharma Maria Simona Raboaca Bogdan Constantin Neagu 2023Computers, Materials & Continua2023,77,10:0
15Nibrin expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma:association with clinicopathological parameters显示文摘Aim:The present study sought to discover the role of Nibrin protein in 100 patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC)and its potential relationship with clinicopathological parameters. Methods:Nibrin expression was evaluated immunohistochemically using the modified H-score method. Results:The present study included 20%of patients with stage I disease,22%of patients with stage II disease,18%of patients with stage III disease, and 40%of patients with stage IV disease.Nibrin showed a significant positive correlation with moderately/poorly differentiated tumor tissues(P=0.028),while significant inverse correlation of Nibrin expression was observed with tumor size(P=0.018)and tumor stage(P=0.039).Further,using univariate survival analysis it was observed that strong Nibrin expression was significantly associated with disease relapse in early stage OSCC patients(P=0.049).Conclusion:Thus,the present study revealed that Nibrin could be used as a prognostic marker in patients with early stage OSCC.Jigna H.Dave Hemangini H.Vora Trupti I.Trivedi Nandita R.Ghosh 2016Journal of Cancer Metastasis and Treatment2016,2,1:0
