| 4 | Effects of sphere size on the microstructure and mechanical properties of ductile iron–steel hollow sphere syntactic foams显示文摘The effects of sphere size on the microstructural and mechanical properties of ductile iron–steel hollow sphere(DI–SHS) syntactic foams were investigated in this study. The SHSs were manufactured by fluidized-bed coating via the Fe-based commercial powder–binder suspension onto expanded polystyrene spheres(EPSs). Afterwards, the DI–SHS syntactic foams were produced via a sand-mold casting process. The microstructures of specimens were investigated by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS). The microscopic evaluations of specimens reveal distinct regions composed of the DI matrix, SHS shells, and compatible interface. As a result, the microstructures and graphite morphologies of the DI matrix depend on sphere size. When the sphere size decreases, the area fractions of cementite and graphite phases are observed to increase and decrease, respectively. Compression tests were subsequently conducted at ambient temperature on the DI–SHS syntactic foams. The results reveal that the compression behavior of the syntactic foams is enhanced with increasing sphere size. | 8 | Outcome of trabeculectomy in hospital Melaka,Malaysia显示文摘AIM:To study the success and outcome of trabeculectomy in Hospital Melaka.· METHODS:Medical records of all patients who underwent trabeculectomy between January 1,2007 and October 31,2010 whom were followed up for at least 6 months postoperatively in Hospital Melaka were retrospectively reviewed.· RESULTS:A total number of 117 eyes of 91 patients with the age range between 12 to 84 years underwent primary trabeculectomy(n =20,17.1%),combine trabeculectomy with cataract surgery(n =90,76.9%),repeat trabeculectomy(n=5,4.3%),and combine repeat trabeculectomy with cataract surgery(n =2,1.7%).The disease spectrum includes primary open-angle glaucoma(POAG)(54 patients,59.3%),priamry angle-closure glaucoma(PACG)(14 patients,15.4%),secondary glaucomas(19 patients,20.9%) and juvenile glaucomas(4 patients,4.4%).Preoperative mean intraocular pressure(IOP) was(24.69±8.67)mmHg as compared to postoperative mean IOP of(15.81±6.66)mmHg,(15.07±4.72)mmHg and(15.68±3.65)mmHg at 6-month,12-month and 24-month respectively.Eighty-two point one percent of eyes(n =96) achieved complete success(CS),12.8%(n =15) with qualified success(QS) and only 5.1%(n = 6) failed at 6 month with two of them warrant other filtering surgery.At twelve months,trabeculectomy with CS was 71.6%(n =63),QS in 22.7%(n =20) and failure in 5.7%(n = 5).Sixty-seven point five percent(n =27) attained CS,20.0%(n =8) with QS while 12.5%(n =5) failed at 24 month postoperative.· CONCLUSION:As the understanding of the lower the IOP,the better the patients retaining the visual function,trabeculectomy is significantly a choice of treatment in uncontrolled glaucoma.This study concluded that trabeculectomy performed in Hospital Melaka has produced significant success as compared to other studies. | Moon Heng Hah Raja Norliza Raja Omar Juliana Jalaluddin Nor Fadzillah Abd Jalil Anusiah Selvathurai | 2012 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2012,5,3: | 4 |
| 9 | Wind-induced hydrodynamic changes impact on sediment resuspension for large, shallow Lake Taihu, China显示文摘The internal sediment release is a key factor controlling eutrophication processes in large,shallow lakes.Sediment resuspension is associated with the wave and current induced shear stress in large,shallow lakes.The current study investigated the wind field impacts on sediment resuspension from the bottom at Meiliang Bay of large,shallow Lake Taihu.The impacts of the wind field on the wave,current,and wave-current combined shear stresses were calculated.The critical wind speed range was 4–6 m/s after which wave and current shear stress started to increase abruptly,and onshore wind directions were found to be mainly responsible for greater shear stress at the bottom of Lake Taihu.A second order polynomial fitting correlation was found between wave(R^2 0.4756)and current(R^2 0.4466)shear stresses with wind speed.Wave shear stress accounted for 92.5% of the total shear stress at Meiliang Bay.The critical wave shear stress and critical total shear stress were 0.13 N/m^2 for sediment resuspension whereas the current shear stress was 0.019 N/m^2 after which suspended sediment concentrations(SSC)increased abruptly.A second order polynomial fitting correlation was found between wave(R^2 0.739),current(R^2 0.6264),and total shear stress(R^2 0.7394)with SSC concentrations at Meiliang Bay of Lake Taihu.The sediment resuspension rate was 120 to 738 g/m^2/d during 4–6 m/s onshore winds while offshore winds contributed ≥ 200 g/m^2/d.The study results reveal the driving mechanism for understanding the role of the wind field in sediment resuspension while considering wind speed and direction as control parameters to define wave and current shear stresses. | Abdul Jalil Yiping Li Ke Zhang Xiaomeng Gao Wencai Wang Hafiz Osama Sarwar Khan Baozhu Pan Salar Ali Kumud Acharya | 2019 | International Journal of Sediment Research2019,34,3: | 4 |
| 10 | Characteristics of the First Occurrence of Jurassic Petroleum in the Zagros Basin, Iran显示文摘After two well tests in the Asmari well#A, located in the North Dezful zone, it was concluded that in the Jurassic Mus/Alan/Neyriz and Upper Sargelu reservoirs, highly mature colorless oil and gas were trapped, including 4%-6% H2 S. The alternation of Garau shale and the Gotnia anhydrite seal was so efficient that it did not allow the upward migration of petroleum from Jurassic reservoirs to higher levels. Descriptive ratios, chromatograms, pick correlation and cross plots demonstrated that the oil and gas have been derived from a TOC-enriched sequence, consisting of the base of the Garau and the top of the Sargelu Formations. This highly organic matter-rich sequence is traceable as an oil shale in other parts of the North Dezful zone, such as the Gashun section. The petroleum accumulations in both reservoirs are identical, have the same maturity and the same source. Diagrams of δ13 C2 versus δ13 C3, δ13 C1 versus wetness of gas(C1/C2+C3) and δ13 C1 versus δDC1 suggest that the gas is derived from a highly mature source. There are indications of TSR effects on the original petroleum that could have changed the volumetric and isotopic composition of the oil and gas. | 12 | Financial Development,Economic Growth and Adaptive Efficiency:A Comparison between China and Pakistan显示文摘The strong economic growth in China is difficult to reconcile with its inefficient financial system.The puzzle of China's financial development and growth can be explained through a dynamic criterion of adaptive efficiency,rather than through allocative efficiency.Using the framework of an autoregressive distributed lag model,the present paper tests the hypothesis that the GDP growth rate is dependent on financial development along with other variables in China and Pakistan.The hypothesis cannot be rejected in both cases.However, the results show that economic growth has a negative relationship with credit to the private sector in China.We conclude that financial development is a source of China's high growth rate and that the banking system is still under an evolutionary process,involving the pursuit of social objectives instead of the sole objective of profit maximization.Our results provide some implications for other developing countries like Pakistan. | Ying Ma Abdul Jalil | 2008 | China & World Economy2008,16,6: | 3 |

| 16 | Regression of cardiovascular remodeling in hypertension:Novel relevant mechanisms显示文摘Asymptomatic organ damage due to progressive kidney damage, cardiac hypertrophy and remodeling put hypertensive patients at high risk for developing heart and renal failure, myocardial infarction and stroke. Current antihypertensive treatment normalizes high blood pressure, partially reverses organ damage, and reduces the incidence of heart and renal failure. Activation of the renin-angiotensin system(RAS) is a primary mechanism of progressive organ damage and, specifically, a major cause of both renal and cardiovascular fibrosis. Currently, inhibition of the RAS system [mainly with angiotensin I converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin II(Ang II) receptor antagonists] is the most effective antihypertensive strategy for normalizing blood pressure and preventing target organ damage. However, residual organ damage and consequently high risk for cardiovascular events and renal failure still persist. Accordingly, in hypertension, it is relevant to develop new therapeutic perspectives, beyond reducing blood pressure to further prevent/reduce target organ damage by acting on pathways that trigger and maintain cardiovascular and renal remodeling. We review here relevant novel mechanisms of target organ damage in hypertension, their role and evidence in prevention/regression of cardiovascular remodeling and their possible clinical impact as well. | 17 | Investigating the structural effect of electrospun nano-fibrous polymeric films on water vapor transmission显示文摘Electrospun polymers have many applications in the industry.However, the structure of these polymers has been less widely considered by researchers.In this work, the structural effect of electrospun and casted films of polyacrylonitrile(PAN) and polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) polymers on water vapor transmission were investigated.Sorption of water vapor was measured at 35, 60 and 80 ℃ and different relative humidities.The diffusion coefficients were calculated based on mass changes of the polymer sample.The water vapor transmission rate(WVTR) was also measured at 35 ℃ and 90% relative humidity.The results indicated that electrospun nano-fibrous polymers(ESNPs) absorb much higher water vapor compared to non-porous casted polymers.The interaction of water molecules with mentioned polymers was investigated based on Flory-Huggins theory.The Flory-Huggins interaction parameter of electrospun films was less than casted films, suggesting much better interaction of water molecules with electrospun films.It was also found that electrospun films have anomalous kinetic behavior and do not obey the Fickian diffusion model.Finally, it was revealed that ESNPs show less resistance to water vapor transmission and they are good candidates for the applications of water vapor separation using membranes. | Seyed Jalil Poormohammadian Parviz Darvishi Abdol Mohammad Ghalambor Dezfuli | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2019,27,1: | 2 |

| 20 | Experimental investigation and adaptive neural fuzzy inference system prediction of copper recovery from flotation tailings by acid leaching in a batch agitated tank显示文摘The potential of copper recovery from flotation tailings was experimentally investigated using a laboratory-mixing tank. The experiments were performed with solid weight percentages of 30 wt%, 35 wt%, 40 wt% and 45 wt% in water. The measurements revealed that adding sulfuric acid all at once to the tank rapidly increased the efficiency of the leaching process, which was attributed to the rapid change in the acid concentration. The rate of iron dissolution from tailings was less than when the acid was added gradually. The sample with 40 wt% solid is recommended as an appropriate feed for the recovery of copper. The adaptive neural fuzzy system(ANFIS) was also used to predict the copper recovery from flotation tailings. The back-propagation algorithm and least squares method were applied for the training of ANFIS. The validation data was also applied to evaluate the performance of these models.
