2Conversion of Malaysian low-rank coal to mesoporous activated carbon:Structure characterization and adsorption properties显示文摘Malaysian Selantik low-rank coal(SC)was used as a precursor to prepare a form of mesoporous activated carbon(SC-AC)with greater surface area(SA)via a microwave induced KOH-activation method.The characteristics of the SC and SC-AC were evaluated by the iodine number,ash content,bulk density,and moisture content The structure and surface characterization was carried out using pore structure analysis(BET),scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM-EDX),X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIR),elemental analysis(CHNS),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),and determination of the point of zero charge(pH(PZC)).These results signify a mesoporous structure of SC-AC with an increase of ca.1160 times(BET SA=1094.3 m^2·g^-1)as compared with raw SC without activation(BET SA=1.23 m^2·g^-1).The adsorptive properties of the SC-AC with methylene blue(MB)was carried out at variable adsorbent dose(0.2-1.6 g·L^-1),solution pH(2-12),initial MB concentrations(25-400 mg·L^-1),and contact time(0-290 min)using batch mode operation.The kinetic profiles follow pseudo-second order kinetics and the equilibrium uptake of MB conforms to the Langmuir model with a maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 491.7 mg g^-1 at 303 K.Thermodynamic functions revealed a spontaneous endothermic adsorption process.The mechanism of adsorption included mainly electrostatic attractions,hydrogen bonding interaction,andπ-πstacking interaction.This work shows that Malaysian Selantik low-rank coal is a promising precursor for the production of low-cost and efficient mesoporous activated carbon with substantive surface area.Ali H.Jawad Khudzir Ismail Mohd Azlan Mohd Ishak Lee D. 3Identification and Functional Analysis of Three MAX2 Orthologs in Chrysanthemum显示文摘MORE AXILLARY BRANCHING 2 (MAX2), initially identified in Arabidopsis thaliana, is a key regulatory gene in strigolactone signal transduction. Three orthologs of MAX2 were cloned from Dendranthema grandiflorum (DgMAX2a, b, and c). Each of the genes has an open reading frame of 2,049 bp and encodes 682 amino acid proteins. The predicted amino acid sequences of the three DgMAX2s are most closely related to the MAX2 orthologs identified in petunia (PhMAX2A and PhMAX2B), and display the highest amino acid sequence similarity with PhMAX2A compared to other MAX2s. Expression analysis revealed that DgMAX2s are predominantly expressed in the stem and axillary buds. On a cellular level, we localized the DgMAX2a::GFP fusion protein to the nucleus in onion epidermal cells, which is consistent with the nuclear localization of MAX2 in Arabidopsis. The chrysanthemum DgMAX2a is able to restore the max2-1 mutant branching to wild-type (WT) Arabidopsis, suggesting that it is a functional MAX2 ortholog. 7Comparative Study on Growth Performance of Transgenic(Over-Expressed OsNHX1) and Wild-Type Nipponbare under Different Salinity Regimes显示文摘Transgenic Nipponbare which over-expressed a Na+/H+ antiporter gene OsNHX1 was used to compare its growth performance, water status and photosynthetic efficiency with its wild type under varying salinity regimes. Chlorophyll content, quantum yield and photosynthetic rate were measured to assess the impact of salinity stress on photosynthetic efficiency for transgenic and wild-type Nipponbare. Effects of salinity on water status and gas exchange to both lines were studied by measuring water use efficiency, instantaneous transpiration rate and stomatal conductance. Dry shoot weight and leaf area were determined after three months of growth to assess the impacts of salinity on the growth of those two lines. Our study showed that both lines were affected by salinity stress, however, the transgenic line showed higher photosynthetic efficiency, better utilization of water, and better growth due to low transpiration rate and stomatal conductance. 9Kinematics analysis for five DOF Fresh Fruit Bunch harvester显示文摘The existing mechanized oil palm harvester is claimed to be unsuccessful due to its inefficiency to harvest Fresh Fruit Bunch(FFB).It takes a lot of time compared to the conventional harvesting method,using human power.Therefore a study was carried out using Denavit and Hartenberg(D-H)approach to automate the five Degrees of Freedom(DOF)harvester manipulator.The general objective was to reduce the number of workers required for harvesting as well as to provide comfortable ergonomic for the operator of oil palm harvester.The D-H’s convention was used for selecting frames of reference in robotics application which has become the standard way of representing robots and modeling their motions.In this study,the forward kinematics and inverse kinematics were used to deduce joint angles variables while the conventional Jacobian was used for motion velocity computation.The formulated inverse equations were tested manually on the harvester with given locations to obtain deduced joint angles.The results were θ_(1)=129.64°,θ_(3)=180°,θ_(4)=90°,which were quite accurate.Thus,the kinematics analysis of harvester arm automation was done successfully.Helena Anusia James Jayaselan Wan Ishak Wan Ismail 2010International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2010,3,3:3
10Natural frequency characteristics of thin-walled homogeneous and manifold layered cylindrical shells under pressure using energy method显示文摘Energy method for the vibration of two types of cylindrical shells,namely thin-walled homogeneous isotropic and manifold layered isotropic cylindrical shells under uniform external lateral pressure is presented.The study is carried out based on strain-displacement relationship from Love's shell theory with beam functions as axial modal function.A manifold layered cylindrical shell configuration is formed by three layers of isotropic material where the inner and outer layers are stainless steel and the middle layer is aluminum.The homogeneous cylindrical shell is made-up of isotropic one layer with stainless steel.The governing equations with uniform external lateral pressure for homogeneous isotropic and manifold layered isotropic cylindrical shells are obtained using energy functional by the Lagrangian function with Rayleigh-Ritz method.The boundary conditions that are presented at the end conditions of the cylindrical shell are simply supported-simply supported,clamped-clamped and free-free.The influences of uniform external lateral pressure and symmetrical boundary conditions on the natural frequency characteristics for both homogeneous and manifold layered isotropic cylindrical shells are examined.For all boundary conditions considered,the natural frequency of both cylindrical shells with symmetric uniform lateral pressure increases as h/R ratio increases and those considering natural frequency of the both cylindrical shells with symmetric uniform lateral pressure decrease as L/R ratio increases.M.R.Isvandzibaei Hishamuddin Jamaluddin Raja Ishak Raja Hamzah 2014Journal of Central South University2014,21,2:2
11Asymmetrical Multi-level DC-link Inverter for PV Energy System with Perturb and Observe Based Voltage Regulator and Capacitor Compensator显示文摘In this paper, a perturb and observe(P&O) based voltage regulator(POVR) and a capacitor compensator(CC)circuit are proposed for the implementation on 31-level asymmetrical switch-diode based multi-level DC-link(MLDCL) inverter. Since the application of MLDCL in a standalone photovoltaic(PV) system requires constant DC voltages from PV panels, the POVR strategy is deployed to regulate the voltage along with the capability to deliver the maximum power at full load.Boost DC-DC converters are used as the interface between the panels and the inverter for the POVR operation. The results show that POVR is capable of achieving the desired fixed DC voltages even under varying environmental and load conditions,with a steady 230 V at the output. At full load, the standalone system successfully delivers 97.21% of the theoretical maximum power. 12Predictive control of plug-in electric vehicle chargers with photovoltaic integration显示文摘This paper presents a model predictive control(MPC) for off-board plug-in electric vehicle(PEV)chargers with photovoltaic(PV) integration using two-level four-leg inverter topology. The PEV charger is controlled by a unified controller that incorporates direct power and current MPC to dynamically control decoupled active-reactive power flow in a smart grid environment as well as to control PEV battery charging and discharging reliably. PV power generation with maximum power tracking is seamlessly integrated with the power flow control to provide additional power generation. Fast dynamic response and good steady-state performance under all power flow modes and various environmental conditions are evaluated and analyzed. From the results obtained, the charger demonstrates less than 1.5% total harmonic distortion as well as low active and reactive power ripple of less than 7% and 8% respectively on the grid for all power flow modes. The PEV battery also experiences a low charging and discharging current ripple of less than 2.5%.
