| 2 | MicroRNAs:Promising chemoresistance biomarkers in gastric cancer with diagnostic and therapeutic potential显示文摘Gastric cancer(GC) is the fourth most common cancer worldwide and ranks second in global cancer mortality statistics. Perioperative chemotherapy plays an important role in the management and treatment of advanced stage disease. However,response to chemotherapy varies widely,with some patients presenting no or only minor response to treatment. Hence,chemotherapy resistance is a major clinical problem that impacts on outcome. Unfortunately,to date there are no reliable biomarkers available that predict response to chemotherapy before the start of the treatment,or that allow modification of chemotherapy resistance. MicroRNAs(miRNAs) could provide an answer to this problem. miRNAs are involved in the initiation and progression of a variety of cancer types,and there is evidence that miRNAs impact on resistance towards chemotherapeutic drugs as well. | 4 | MicroRNA signatures in chemotherapy resistant esophageal cancer cell lines显示文摘AIM:To investigate expression of microRNA(miRNA)and potential targets in chemotherapy resistant esoph-ageal cancer cell lines.METHODS:An in-vitro model of acquired chemotherapy resistance in esophageal adeno-(EAC)and squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)cells was used,and microRNA expression profiles for cisplatin or 5-fluorouracil(5-FU)resistant variants vs chemotherapy sensitive controls were compared using microarray and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR).The expression of chemotherapy-relevant genes potentially targeted by the dysregulated microRNAs in the chemotherapy resistant variants was also evaluated.RESULTS:Chemotherapy resistant sublines were found to have specific miRNA signatures,and these miRNA signatures were different for the cisplatin vs 5-FU resistant cells from the same tumor cell line,and also for EAC vs ESCC cells with resistance to the same specific chemotherapy agent.Amongst others,miR-27b-3p,miR-193b-3p,miR-192-5p,miR-378 a-3p,miR-125a-5p and miR-18a-3p were dysregulated,consistent with negative posttranscriptional control of KRAS,TYMS,ABCC3,CBL-B and ERBB2 expression via these miRNAs.CONCLUSION:The current study supports the hypothesis that microRNA expression has an impact on chemotherapy resistance in esophageal cancer. | Richard Hummel Corina Sie David I Watson Tingting Wang Alfiya Ansar Michael Z Michael Mark Van der Hoek Joerg Haier Damian J Hussey | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，40： | 8 |

| 6 | Prospective evaluation of small bowel preparation with bisacodyl and sodium phosphate for capsule endoscopy显示文摘AIM: To determine the effect of Prepacol?, a com- bination of sodium phosphate and bisacodyl, on transit and quality of capsule endoscopy (CE). METHODS: Fivety two consecutive patients were included in this prospective study. CE was performed following a 12 h fasting period. Twenty six patients were randomized for additional preparation with Prepacol?. The quality of CE was assessed separately for the proximal and the distal small bowel by 3 experienced endoscopists on the basis of a graduation which was initially developed with 20 previous CE. RESULTS: Preparation with Prepacol? accelerated small bowel transit time (262 ± 55 min vs 287 ± 97 min), but had no effect on the quality of CE. Visibility was significantly reduced in the distal compared to the proximal small bowel. CONCLUSION: The significantly reduced visibility of CE in the distal small bowel allocates the need for a good preparation. Since Prepacol? has no beneficial effect on CE the modality of preparation and the ideal time of application remains unclear. | 14 | Impact of postoperative TNM stages after neoadjuvant therapy on prognosis of adenocarcinoma of the gastro-oesophageal junction tumours显示文摘AIM To compare prognostic relevance of postoperative tumour/node/metastasis(TMN) stages between patients with and without neoadjuvant treatment. METHODS Data from patients with adenocarcinoma of the gastrooesophageal junction(AEG) who had undergone surgical resection at a single German university centre were retrospectively analysed. Patients with or without neoadjuvant preoperative treatment were selected by exact matching based on preoperative staging. Standard assessment of preoperative(c)TNM stage was based on endoscopic ultrasound and computed tomography of the thorax and abdomen, according to the American Joint Committee on Cancer/Union for International Cancer Control classification system. Patients with cT1cN0cM0 and cT2cN0cM0 stages were excluded from the study, as these patients are generally not recommended for pretreatment. Longterm survival among the various postoperative TNM stages was compared between the groups of patients with or without neoadjuvant treatment. For statistical assessments, a P-value of ≤ 0.05 was considered significant.RESULTS The study included a total of 174 patients. The group of patients who had received preoperative neoadjuvant treatment included more cases of AEG(Siewert) type 1 carcinoma(P < 0.001), and consequently oesophagectomy was performed more frequently among these patients(P < 0.001). The two groups(with or without preoperative neoadjuvant treatment) had comparable preoperative T stages, but the group of patients with preoperative neoadjuvant treatment presented a higher rate of preoperative N-positive disease(P = 0.020). Overall long-term survival was not different between the two groups of patients according to tumours of different AEG classifications, receipt of oesophagectomy or gastrectomy, nor between patients with similar postoperative TNM stage, resection margin and grading. | 19 | Spectral reflectance response to nitrogen fertilization in field grown corn显示文摘This study was carried out to analyze the spectral reflectance response of different nitrogen levels for corn crops.Four different nitrogen treatments of 0%,80%,100%and 120%BMP(best management practice)were studied.Principal component analysis-loading(PCA-loading)was used to identify the effective wavelengths.Partial least squares(PLS)and multiple linear regression(MLR)models were built to predict different nitrogen values.Vegetation indices(VIs)were calculated and then used to build more prediction models.Both full and selected wavelengths-based models showed similar prediction trends.The overall PLS model obtained the coefficient of determination(R^(2))of 0.6535 with a root mean square error(RMSE)of 0.2681 in the prediction set.The selected wavelengths for overall MLR model obtained the R^(2) of 0.6735 and RMSE of 0.3457 in the prediction set.The results showed that the wavelengths in visible and near infrared region(350-1000 nm)performed better than the two either spectral regions(1001-1350/1425-1800 nm and 2000-2400 nm).For each data set,the wavelengths around 555 nm and 730 nm were identified to be the most important to predict nitrogen rates.The vogelmann red edge index 2(VOG 2)performed the best among all VIs.It demonstrated that spectral reflectance has the potential to be used for analyzing nitrogen response in corn. | Chuanqi Xie Ce Yang Alexander Hummel Jr Gregg A Johnson Forrest T Izuno | 2018 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018，11，4： | 2 |
