| 1 | Status monitoring and health assessment of Luhuitou fringing reef of Sanya, Hainan, China显示文摘The monitoring survey and health assessment for benthic community were carried out in Luhuitou fringing reef of Sanya, Hainan, China in 2002. Monitoring survey included manta tow, line intercept transect, video transect and digital photograph. The mean live coral cover was 23.40%. Comparison of used monitoring methods showed that video transect can replace line intercept transect, and 50 m transect is better than 20 m transect in uneven coral region. Survey data and comparison with previous research work showed that Luhuitou fringing reef has been damaged severely and has a general declining trend with live coral cover from about 85% in the 1960s down to 20% in 2004, but it still has quite high biodiversity and therefore has special protection value. Main factors of Luhuitou fringing reef declining were human activities including reef rock digging and curios collecting, destructive fishing, sediment and pollutant from coastal land, and recent marine aquaculture. | 2 | A draft sequence of the rice (Oryza sativa ssp. indica) genome显示文摘The sequence of the rice genome holds fundamental information for its biology, including physiology, genetics, development, and evolution, as well as information on many beneficial phenotypes of economic significance. Using a 'whole genome shotgun' approach, we have pro-duced a draft rice genome sequence of Oryza sativa ssp. in-dica, the major crop rice subspecies in China and many other regions of Asia. The draft genome sequence is constructed from over 4.3 million successful sequencing traces with an accumulative total length of 2214.9 Mb. The initial assembly of the non-redundant sequences reached 409.76 Mb in length, based on 3.30 million successful sequencing traces with a total length of 1797.4 Mb from an indica variant cultivar 93-11, giving an estimated coverage of 95.29% of the rice genome with an average base accuracy of higher than 99%. | 7 | Characterization of spermidine hydroxycinnamoyl transferases from eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) and its wild relative Solanum richardii Dunal显示文摘Eggplant produces a variety of hydroxycinnamic acid amides(HCAAs)that have an important role in plant development and adaptation to environmental changes.In this study,we identified and characterized a spermidine hydroxycinnamoyl transferase(SHT)from eggplant(Solanum melongena)and its wild relative S.richardii,designated as SmSHT and SrSHT,respectively.SmSHT was abundant in flowers and fruits,whereas the level of SrSHT was remarkably low in all tissues.Heat-shock/drought treatment stimulated the expression of SmSHT in both leaves and fruits,indicating its involvement in plant stress response.Both SHT polypeptides had extremely high identity with just five amino-acid substitutions.Recombinant SmSHT catalyzed the synthesis of mono-,bi-and tri-acylated polyamines.Using caffeoyl-CoA as the acyl donor,SmSHT preferred spermidine as the acyl acceptor.When spermidine was the acyl acceptor,the donor preference order for SmSHT was caffeoyl-CoA>feruloyl-CoA>ρ-coumaroyl-CoA.SrSHT exhibited the same substrate specificity as SmSHT,yet exhibited significantly higher catalytic activity than SmSHT.For example,under caffeoyl-CoA and spermidine,Kcat of SrSHT was 37.3%higher than SmSHT.Molecular modeling suggests that five amino-acid substitutions in SrSHT result in four alterations in their predicted 3D structures.In particular,the conserved Lys402 adjacent to the DFGWG motif,and Cys200 in the crossover loop in SmSHT were replaced by Glu and Ser in SrSHT.These substitutions may contribute to the enhanced activity in SrSHT.Our study provides a platform to generate HCAA rich fruits for eggplant and other solanaceous crops. | Hui Peng Tianbao Yang Bruce D Whitaker Frances Trouth Lingfei Shangguan Wen Dong Wayne M Jurick | 2016 | Horticulture Research2016,3,1: | 2 |
| 8 | Association between interleukin-21 gene rs907715 polymorphism and gastric precancerous lesions in a Chinese population显示文摘BACKGROUND The single nucleotide polymorphisms of interleukin-21(IL-21)gene were confirmed to be related to various diseases,but no studies have examined the possible role of IL-21 single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)(rs907715,rs2221903,and rs12508721)in gastric precancerous lesions.AIM To explore the associations between SNPs of IL-21 gene(rs907715,rs2221903,and rs12508721)and gastric precancerous lesions in a Chinese population.METHODS Three SNPs of IL-21 were genotyped using polymerase chain reaction–ligase detection reaction in 588 cases and 290 healthy controls from May 2013 to December 2016 in northwestern China.Gastric precancerous lesions were confirmed by endoscopic examination and categorized as non-atrophic gastritis,atrophic gastritis,and intestinal metaplasia.Descriptive statistic and logistic regression were used for data analyses.RESULTS IL-21 rs907715 genotype CC and C frequencies were higher in in patients with gastric precancerous lesions than in the controls(OR=1.59,95%CI:1.06-2.38,P=0.013;OR=1.28,95%CI:1.01-2.22,P=0.044,respectively)after adjusting for confounding factors.For SNP rs907715 in intestinal metaplasia patients,significant differences between cases and controls were observed in the frequencies of genotype CC and C(OR=1.92,95%CI:1.24-2.98,P=0.004;OR=1.53,95%CI:1.04-2.24,P=0.028,respectively);for non-atrophic gastritis and atrophic gastritis patients,the CC and C genotypes showed no significant association with risk in all models.No association between either rs2221903 or rs12508721 and gastric precancerous lesions was found in the present study.In the haplotype analysis,the TC haplotype(rs907715 and rs12508721)and TT haplotype(rs2221903 and rs907715)were more frequent in the case group than control group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Our findings indicate that SNP rs907715 of IL-21 gene is associated with gastric precancerous lesions.The TC haplotype(rs907715 and rs12508721)and TT haplotype(rs2221903 and rs907715)increased the risk of gastric precancerous lesions.If confirmed,these findings will shed light on the etiology of precancerous lesions. | Xiao-Qin Wang Yang Li Paul D Terry Wen-Jing Kou Yue Zhang Zhao-Zhao Hui Xiao-Han Ren Ming-Xu Wang | 2020 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2020,12,3: | 2 |
