2Characteristics,sources and health risks assessment of VOCs in Zhengzhou,China during haze pollution season显示文摘Zhengzhou is one of the most haze-polluted cities in Central China with high organic carbon emission,which accounts for 15%-20%of particulate matter(PM_(2.5))in winter and causes significantly adverse health effects.Volatile organic compounds(VOCs)are the precursors of secondary PM_(2.5)and O_(3)formation.An investigation of characteristics,sources and health risks assessment of VOCs was carried out at the urban area of Zhengzhou from 1^(st) to 31^(st) December,2019.The mean concentrations of total detected VOCs were 48.8±23.0 ppbv.Alkanes(22.0±10.4 ppbv),halocarbons(8.1±3.9 ppbv)and aromatics(6.5±3.9 ppbv)were the predominant VOC species,followed by alkenes(5.1±3.3 ppbv),oxygenated VOCs(3.6±1.8 ppbv),alkyne(3.5±1.9,ppbv)and sulfide(0.5±0.9 ppbv).The Positive Matrix Factorization model was used to identify and apportion VOCs sources.Five major sources of VOCs were identified as vehicular exhaust,industrial processes,combustion,fuel evaporation,and solvent use.The carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risk values of species were calculated.The carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks of almost all air toxics increased during haze days.The total non-carcinogenic risks exceeded the acceptable ranges.Most VOC species posed no non-carcinogenic risk during three haze events.The carcinogenic risks of chloroform,1,2-dichloroethane,1,2-dibromoethane,benzyl chloride,hexachloro-1,3-butadiene,benzene and naphthalene were above the acceptable level(1.0×10^(-6))but below the tolerable risk level(1.0×10^(-4)).Industrial emission was the major contributor to non-carcinogenic,and solvent use was the major contributor to carcinogenic risks.Dong Zhang Bing He Minghao Yuan Shijie Yu Shasha Yin Ruiqin Zhang 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,10:10

4Topographical relief characteristics and its impact on population and economy:A case study of the mountainous area in western Henan,China显示文摘Topographical relief is a key factor that limits population distribution and economic development in mountainous areas.The limitation is especially apparent in the mountain?plain t「ansition zone.Taking the transition zone between the Qinling Mountains and the North China Plain(i.e.the mountainous area in western Henan Province)as an example and based on the 200-m resolution DEM data,we used the mean change-point analysis to determine the optimal statistical unit for topographical relief,and thereafter extracted the relief degree.Taking the 1:100,000 land use data,township population and county-level industrial data,population and economic spatial models were constructed,and 200?m resolution grid population and economic density maps were gen erated.Afterwards,statistical analysis was carried out to quantitatively reveal the impact of topographical relief on population and economy.In addition,the impacts of other topographical factors were discussed.The results showed the following.(1)The relief degree in western Henan is generally low,where 58.6%of the regional topography does not exceed half the height of a reference mountain(relative elevation W250 m).Spatially,the relief degree is high in the west while low in the east,and high in the middle while low in the north and south.There is a positive correlation between relief degree and elevation,and a much stronger correlation between relief degree and slope.(2)The linear fitting degree between the population and economic validation data and the corresponding simulation data are 0.943 and 0.909,respectively,indicating that the spatialized results can reflect the actual population and economic distribution.(3)The impact of topographical relief on population and economy was stronger than that of other topographical factors.The relief degree showed a good logarithmic fit relati on ship with population density(0.911)and economic density(0.874).Specifically,88.65%of the population lives in areas where the topographical relief is W0.5 and 88.03%of the gross regional product was from areas where the relief is W0.3.Compared with the population distribution,the economic development showed an obvious agglomeration trend towards low relief areas.ZHANG Jingjing ZHU Wenbo ZHU Lianqi CUI Yaoping HE Shasha REN Han 2019Journal of Geographical Sciences2019,29,4:8

6Combined deficiency of SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 prevents endotoxin-induced liver inflammation by downregulating TLR4 expression on macrophages显示文摘Classical signaling lymphocyte activating molecule(SLAM)family receptors are abundant within many types of immune cells,whereas the nonclassical SLAM family receptors SLAMF8 and SLAMF9,which uniquely lack cytoplasmic signaling motifs,are highly expressed by myeloid cells.Due to the potential redundancy,whether these two receptors regulate macrophage function remains largely unknown.Here,we show that SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 co-regulate macrophage-mediated liver inflammation.To overcome the redundancy,we generated mice that simultaneously lacked SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 using CRISPR-Cas9 technology.Although macrophage differentiation was not altered by the combined deficiency of SLAMF8 and SLAMF9,the loss of these two receptors significantly protected against lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced liver injury.SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 double-deficient mice had a prolonged survival rate and less infiltration of inflammatory cells.The depletion of macrophages using clodronate liposomes abolished the effects of SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 deficiencies on LPS-induced liver injury,which demonstrates that these receptors are required for macrophage activation following LPS challenge.Moreover,the deficiency of SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 suppressed the secretion of inflammatory cytokines by downregulating the expression of Toll-like receptor-4(TLR4),a receptor that specifically binds LPS,which led to decreased mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAPK)signaling activation.Notably,combined injections of truncated extracellular SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 proteins significantly alleviated LPS-induced liver injury.Thus,our findings provide insights into the role of SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 in endotoxin-induced liver injury and suggest that SLAMF8 and SLAMF9 are potential therapeutic targets for acute hepatic injury.Xiaokang Zeng Guangao Liu Wanwen Peng Junming He Chenxu Cai Wei Xiong Shasha Chen Meixiang Yang Zhongjun Dong 2020Cellular & Molecular Immunology2020,17,2:5

11Intensification of the East Asian Monsoon in Southern China at about300-400 kaBP Inferred from Eolian Deposits in the Middle-lower Reaches of the Yangtze River显示文摘In the East Asian monsoon region,eolian deposits widely distributed in the middle-lower reaches of the Yantgze River are among the best materials available for studies on Quaternary climate change in the subtropical zone of Southern China.Typical eolian deposits in this region include upper Xiashu Loess(XL) and underlying Vermiculated Red Soil(VRS) layers.In this paper,chronological and paleoclimatic studies are conducted on an eolian deposit sequence near Jiujiang(JJ) city in northern Jiangxi province.A magnetostratigraphic study,combined with optically stimulated luminescence(OSL) dating,is conducted on the JJ section and provides further evidence that eolian deposits in the middle-lower reaches of the Yangtze River have been formed since the late Early Pleistocene,and that the boundary age between the XL and VRS layers is about 300-400 kaBP.In grain-size records of the JJ section,the median grain-size and content of the >30 μm size fraction increase sharply after 300-400 kaBP,representing an East Asian winter monsoon intensification event.Further pollen analysis reveals differing pollen assemblages before and after 300-400 kaBP:there is an evident increase in plants adapted to grow in a warm humid environment after 300-400 kaBP,implying an increase in precipitation caused by intensification of the East Asian summer monsoon.Global ice volume and uplift of the Tibet Plateau(TP) are regarded as crucial factors influencing variations of the East Asian monsoon on a long-term scale.The deep-sea δ^(18)O record,which reflects variations in global ice volume,shows no obvious change after 300-400 kaBP.Moreover,the influence of global ice volume changes on the East Asian summer and winter monsoons is inverse;the global ice volume increase(decrease) implies a strengthened(weakened) winter monsoon and weakened(strengthened) summer monsoon.We therefore interpret the coupled intensifications of the East Asian summer and winter monsoons at about 300-400 kaBP to the uplift of the TP in the Middle Pleistocene.This climate event is also documented in eolian deposits from the southern margin of the Chinese Loess Plateau(CLP) and from the desert-loess transitional belt.However,it is not recorded in the loess-paleosol sequences from the central part of the CLP,thereby indicating differing climate responses to TP uplift in different regions,which requires further study.QI Lin QIAO Yansong LI Yuehui WANG Yan PENG Shasha HE Zexin YANG Shuaibin HAN Chao ZHANG Xujiao 2017Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2017,91,3:3
12Habitat restoration is the greatest challenge for population recovery of Hainan gibbons(Nomascus hainanus)显示文摘Hainan gibbons are among the world’s most critically endangered primates,with a remaining population of only 35 individuals distributed across 5 social groups in the Bawangling Branch of the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park,China.Habitat conversion and forest fragmentation over the past 40 years have reduced their geographical distribution by 95%.In the absence of a quantitative assessment of the availability of remaining suitable habitat,it is unclear whether this species can survive to the end of this century.We used behavioral observations,ArcGIS,remote sensing,stereo optical imagery,and MaxEnt modeling to identify patterns of Hainan gibbon range use and compare changes in the distribution of suitable forest types and areas of forest fragmentation over the past 20 years(2000–2020).The results indicate that the combined range of the 5 extant Hainan gibbon groups totaled 14.89 km2.The home range of the smallest group(Group E,3 individuals)was 1.51 km2,which likely represents the minimum home range size for this species.The remaining area of highly suitable and moderately suitable habitat totals 26.9 km2.However,habitat connectivity across the gibbon range is very low(less than 0.5),limiting the ability of Hainan gibbons to move between forest patches.The results of this study indicate that the availability of suitable habitat in Bawangling is insufficient to allow for future Hainan gibbon population growth.Therefore,immediate action must be taken to restore,reforest,and establish ecological corridors to reconnect areas of suitable habitat for these critically endangered gibbons.Qingqing HE Shasha YAN Paul A.GARBER Baoping REN Xvming QI Jiang ZHOU 2023Integrative Zoology2023,18,4:2
13The associated killing of hepatoma cells using multilayer drug-loaded mats combined with fast neutron therapy显示文摘Chemotherapeutic and radiation therapy have emerged as two most important treatment strategies to treat cancer in clinical practice;however,to improve anticancer efficacy,combination chemotherapy still remains challenge.Dichloroacetate(DCA)could produce significant cytotoxic effects in certain tumor cells through its distinct mechanism.Radiation therapy with fast neutrons(FNT)has high relative biolgical effectiveness compared to other radiotherapeutics.Herein,we reported the combination chemotherapy with FNT for effective tumor growth inhibition with the assistance of a multilayered nanofiber loading DCA and DCA derivatives.We first synthesized a biodegradable polylysine to condense DCA with negative charge,or to conjugate DCA by condensing synthesis,to obtain Ion-DCA and Co-DCA,respectively.DCA,Ion-DCA or Co-DCA was then loaded into fibers to form multilayer drug-loaded mats.Upon adhesion on the surface of subcutaneous and orthotopic liver tumors,the multilayer drug-loaded mats realized a controllable release of DCA,which reversed the Warburg effect and inhibited cancer cell proliferation.Meantime,irradiation of fast neutrons could seriously damage DNA structure.Combination of the controllable release of DCA and FNT resulted in synergistic cell apoptosis in vitro,and the tumor inhibition in vivo.This study thus provides a new approach to integrate chemotherapy and FNT with the assistance of biocompatible nanofiber for synergistic tumor therapy.Yanxin Qi Shiwei Jing Shasha He Hejian Xiong Guohua Yang Yubin Huang Ningyi Jin 2021Nano Research2021,14,3:2
14Comparison of the differentiation of dental pulp stem cells and periodontal ligament stem cells into neuron-like cells and their effects on focal cerebral ischemia显示文摘Recent studies have reported an in creasing in cidence of ischemic stroke,particularly in younger age groups.Dental pulp stem cells(DPSCs)and periodontal ligament stem cells(PDLSCs)are the most comm on stem cells acquired from the teeth of adults,even elderly people.However,there are no detailed reports on whether DPSCs or PDLSCs are suitable for the treatment of ischemic stroke.In this study,the in vitro differentiation of DPSCs and PDLSCs into neuron-like cells was evaluated.Then,we established a rat model of cerebral ischemia.DPSCs or PDLSCs were administered to animals,and the therapeutic effects of these two types of cells were investigated.The results showed that PDLSCs had a higher differentiation rate than DPSCs.Immunofluorescence studies showed that the expression of the neuronal differentiation markerThy-1 was higher in PDLSCs than in DPSCs,and other gene markers of neuronal differentiation showed corresponding trends,which were confirmed by western blot analysis.In this process,the Notch and Wnt signaling pathways were inhibited and activated,respectively.Fin ally,rats with transient occlusion of the right middle cerebral artery were used as a model to assess the therapeutic effect of PDLSCs and DPSCs on ischemia.The results showed that rats in the PDLSC-treated group emitted significantly greater red fluorescence signal than the DPSC-treated group.PDLSC transplantation promoted the recovery of neurological function more effectively than DPSC transplantation.Hence,PDLSCs represent an autogenous source of adult mesenchymal stem cells with desirable biological properties and may be an ideal candidate for clinical applications.Tingting Wu Wanting Xu Hanlin Chen Shasha Li Rengang Dou Hongtao Shen Xue Liu Xiaoyu Liu Yongfeng Hong Jiacai He 2020Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2020,52,9:2

18Chain-shattering Pt(IV)-backboned polymeric nanoplatform for efficient CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing to enhance synergistic cancer therapy显示文摘CRISPR/Cas9 system has become a promising gene editing tool for cancer treatment.However,development of a simple and effective nanocarrier to incorporate CRISPR/Cas9 system and chemotherapeutic drugs to concurrently tackle the biological safety and packaging capacity of viral vectors and combine gene editing-chemo for cancer therapy still remains challenges.Herein,a chain-shattering Pt(IV)-backboned polymeric nanoplatform is developed for the delivery of EZH2-targeted CRISPR/Cas9 system(NPCSPt/pEZH2)and synergistic treatment of prostate cancer.The pEZH2/Pt(II)could be effectively triggered to unpack/release from NPCSPt/pEZH2 in a chain-shattering manner in cancer cells.The EZH2 gene disruption efficiency could be achieved up to 32.2%of PC-3 cells in vitro and 21.3%of tumor tissues in vivo,leading to effective suppression of EZH2 protein expression.Moreover,significant H3K27me3 downregulation could occur after EZH2 suppression,resulting in a more permissive chromatin structure that increases the accessibility of released Pt(II)to nuclear DNA for enhanced apoptosis.Taken together,substantial proliferation inhibition of prostate cancer cells and further 85.4%growth repression against subcutaneous xenograft tumor could be achieved.This chain-shattering Pt(IV)-backboned polymeric nanoplatform system not only provides a prospective nanocarrier for CRISPR/Cas9 system delivery,but also broadens the potential of combining gene editing-chemo synergistic cancer therapy.Qingfei Zhang Gaizhen Kuang Shasha He Sha Liu Hongtong Lu Xiaoyuan Li Dongfang Zhou Yubin Huang 2021Nano Research2021,14,3:1
