| 1 | Numerical simulation of tumor-induced angiogenesis influenced by the extra-cellular matrix mechanical environment显示文摘To investigate tumor-induced angiogenesis underthe influence of the mechanical environments inside and outsidethe tumor, mathematical model of tumor angiogenesiswas developed. In the model, extra-cellular matrix (ECM)was treated as a thin plane. The displacement of ECM isobtained from the force balance equation consisted of theECs traction, the ECM visco-elastic forces and the externalforces. Simulation results show that a layered capillarynetwork is obtained with a well vascularized region at theperiphery of the tumor. | 2 | Horizontal transmission of hepatitis B virus in children with chronic hepatitis B显示文摘AIM: To determine the possible routes of intrafamilial transmission pattern in pediatric cases of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.METHODS: In this descriptive retrospective study, 302 children with chronic HBV infection from 251 families and their parents attending the Social Security Children's Hospital and Doctor Sami Ulus Children's Hopsital in Ankara between December 1998 and May 2000, were enrolled in. Screenings and diagnosis of chronic HBV infections were established according to the Consensus 2000.RESULTS: In the studied 302 children with chronic HBV infection, mothers of 38% and fathers of 23% were HBsAg positive. The HBsAg positivity in at least two siblings of the same family was 61% when both parents were HBsAg positive.CONCLUSION: It is well known that horizontal transmission is quite common in countries where Hepatitis B Virus is moderately endemic. To our best knowledge, this is the largest series observed regarding the horizontal transmission in pediatric chronic HBV infection in Turkey. | 4 | Gas solid techniques for preparation of pure lanthanum hexaboride显示文摘The processes reported for the preparation of lanthanum hexaboride (LaB6) from lanthanum oxide involve the use of carbon either elemental or in the form of boron carbide or elemental boron itself as reducing agents, fused salts at high temperatures or reactions which require the product boride to be leached out. Each of these techniques either increases the process costs and/or increases chances of contamination in fi-nal product. Pure LaB6 can best be prepared by a reaction which produces a gaseous byproduct. In the present study, such a reaction was successfully used to yield pure lanthanum hexaboride. The process involved mixing of anhydrous lanthanum chloride with aluminium and boron and heating the charges under dynamic argon flow. Lanthanum chloride is known to be highly hygroscopic; hence the process using improperly dehydrated LaCl3 led to the formation of lanthanum oxychloride which does not convert to LaB6 under conditions wherein LaCl3 converts.
