2Extract of Naotaifang, a compound Chinese herbal medicine, protects neuron ferroptosis induced by acute cerebral ischemia in rats显示文摘Objective:Our previous research showed that Naotaifang(a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine)extract(NTE)has clinically beneficial effects on neurological improvement of patients with acute cerebral ischemia.In this study,we investigated whether NTE protected acute brain injury in rats and whether its effects on ferroptosis could be linked to the dysfunction of glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4)and iron metabolism.Methods:We established an acute brain injury model of middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)in rats,in which we could observe the accumulation of iron in neurons,as detected by Perl’s staining.Using assay kits,we measured expression levels of ferroptosis biomarkers,such as iron,glutathione(GSH),reactive oxygen species(ROS)and malonaldehyde(MDA);further the expression levels of transferrin receptor1(TFR1),divalent metal transporter 1(DMT1),solute carrier family 7 member 11(SLC7 A11)and GPX4 were determined using immunohistochemical analysis,real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blot assays.Results:We found that treatment with NTE reduced the expression levels of TFR1 and DMT1,reduced ROS,MDA and iron accumulation and reduced neurobehavioral scores,relative to untreated MCAO rats.Treatment with NTE increased the expression levels of SLC7 A11,GPX4 and GSH,and the number of Nissl bodies in the MCAO rats.Conclusion:Taken together,our data suggest that acute cerebral ischemia induces neuronal ferroptosis and the effects of treating MCAO rats with NTE involved inhibition of ferroptosis through the TFR1/DMT1 and SCL7 A11/GPX4 pathways.Bin Lan Jin-wen Ge Shao-wu Cheng Xi-long Zheng Jun Liao Chao He Zheng-qing Rao Guo-zuo Wang 2020Journal of Integrative Medicine2020,18,4:37
3Incidence and mortality of thyroid cancer in China, 2008-2012显示文摘Objective: To analyze the incidence and mortality rates of thyroid cancer(TC) in China from 2008 to 2012.Methods: Incident and death cases of TC were retrieved from the National Central Cancer Registry(NCCR)database collecting from 135 cancer registries in China during 2008-2012. The crude incidence and mortality rates of TC were calculated by area(urban/rural), region(eastern, middle, western), gender and age group(0, 1-4, 5-9,…, 85+). China census in 2000 and world Segi's population were applied for age-standardized rates. Joinpoint(Version 4.6.0.0) model was used for time-trend analysis.Results: The crude incidence rate of TC was 7.56/100,000 which ranked the seventh in overall cancers. The agestandardized incidence rates by China population(ASIRC) and by World population(ASIRW) were 6.25/100,000 and 5.52/100,000, respectively. The crude mortality of TC in China was 0.52/100,000. The age-standardized mortality rates by Chinese standard population(ASMRC) and by world standard population(ASMRW) were0.34/100,000 and 0.32/100,000, respectively. Incidence and mortality rates of TC were higher in females than in males and higher in urban areas than in rural areas. Eastern areas had the highest incidence followed by middle and western areas. TC incidence increased dramatically after age of 15 years, then peaked at 14.08/100,000 in the group of 50-54 years and finally decreased sharply after 55 years old. TC mortality increased with age in population,reaching the peak of 5.09/100,000 in sub-population aged 85 years or older. TC incidence increased by 4.73 times from 2.40/100,000 in 2003 to 13.75/100,000 in 2012 with an average annual increase of 20%, while TC mortality only increased slightly around 0.32/100,000 from 0.26/100,000 to 0.36/100,000.Conclusions: Appropriate targeted prevention, early detection and treatment programs can be carried out to curb the rapid growth trend of TC and control the disease burden.Lingbin Du Runhua Li Minghua Ge Youqing Wang Huizhang Li Wanqing Chen Jie He 2019Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2019,31,1:31
4Land use changes and their relations with carbon cycles over the past 300 a in China显示文摘Land use and land cover in China have changed greatly during the past 300 a, indicated by the rapid abrupt decrease of forest land area and the rapid increase of cropland area, which can affect terrestrial carbon cycle greatly. The first-hand materials are used to analyze main characteristics for land use and land cover changes in China during the study period. The following conclusions can be drawn from this study. The cropland area in China kept increasing from 60.78×106 hm2 in 1661 to 96.09×106 hm2 in 1998. Correspondingly, the forest land area decreased from 248.13×106 hm2 in 1700 to 109.01×106 hm2 in 1949. Affected by such changes, the terrestrial ecosystem carbon storage decreased in the mean time. Car-bon lost from land use and land cover changes mainly consist of the loss from vegetation biomass and soil. In the past 300 a, about 3.70 PgC was lost from vegetation biomass, and emissions from soil ranged from 0.80 to 5.84 PgC. The moderate evaluation of soil losses was 2.48 PgC. The total loss from vegetation and soil was between 4.50 and 9.54 PgC. The moderate and optimum evaluation was 6.18 PgC. Such carbon losses distribution varied spatially from region to region. Carbon lost more significantly in Northeast China and Southwest China than in other regions, because losses of forest land in these two regions were far greater than in the other regions during the past 300 a. And losses of carbon in the other regions were also definite, such as Inner Mongolia, the western part of South China, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. But the carbon lost very little from the traditional agricultural regions in China, such as North China and East China. 6Unconjugated bilirubin alleviates experimental ulcerative colitis by regulating intestinal barrier function and immune inflammation显示文摘BACKGROUND Unconjugated bilirubin(UCB) is generally considered toxic but has gained recent prominence for its anti-inflammatory properties. However, the effects of it on the interaction between intestinal flora and organisms and how it influences immune responses remain unresolved.AIM To investigate the role of UCB in intestinal barrier function and immune inflammation in mice with dextran-sulfate-sodium-induced colitis.METHODS Acute colitis was induced by 3%(w/v) dextran sulfate sodium salt in drinking water for 6 d followed by untreated water for 2 d. Concurrently, mice with colitis were administered 0.2 mL UCB(400 μmol/L) by intra-gastric gavage for 7 d.Disease activity index(DAI) was monitored daily. Mice were sacrificed at the end of the experiment. The length of the colon and weight of the spleen were recorded. Serum level of D-lactate, intestinal digestive proteases activity, and changes to the gut flora were analyzed. In addition, colonic specimens were analyzed by histology and for expression of inflammatory markers and proteins.RESULTS Mice treated with UCB had significantly relieved severity of colitis, including lower DAI, longer colon length, and lower spleen weight(colon length: 4.92 ±0.09 cm vs 3.9 ± 0.15 cm; spleen weight: 0.33 ± 0.04 vs 0.74 ± 0.04, P < 0.001). UCB administration inactivated digestive proteases(chymotrypsin: 18.70 ± 0.69 U/g vs44.81 ± 8.60 U/g; trypsin: 1.52 ± 0.23 U/g vs 9.05 ± 1.77 U/g, P < 0.01), increased expression of tight junction(0.99 ± 0.05 vs 0.57 ± 0.03, P < 0.001), decreased serum level of D-lactate(31.76 ± 3.37 μmol/L vs 54.25 ± 1.45 μmol/L, P < 0.001), and lowered histopathological score(4 ± 0.57 vs 7 ± 0.57, P < 0.001) and activity of myeloperoxidase(46.79 ± 2.57 U/g vs 110.32 ± 19.19 U/g, P < 0.001). 7Characteristics and Performance of Novel Water-Absorbent Slow Release Nitrogen Fertilizers显示文摘In this article, a research on the characteristics and performance of water-absorbent slow release nitrogen fertilizer (WASRNF) using infrared spectroscopy (IR), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), was present. The results indicate that the water absorbency and nitrogen analysis of WASRNF is 103 g g-1 and 30%, respectively, and WASRNF exhibits approximately neutral pH and very low salt index. WASRNF is a copolymer of nitrogen fertilizer and super absorbent polymer (SAP) monomers which is formed through hydrogen bond interaction, and the molecule contains hydrophilic groups, which is responsible for the absorption and water retention capacity of the molecule. WASRNF is a gel that exhibits the ability to swell, but does not dissolve in water. WASRNF shows non-homogenous nature as a whole, but in local zone it is homogenous, the copolymer molecule shows chain network that is the physical structure responsible for absorption and retention of water in WASRNF. The water retained in WASRNF exists as free and nonfreezing bound and freezing bound water states, with the free and the nonfreezing water accounting for more than 95% of water retained in WASRNF, and the nonfreezing bound water for less than 5%. 9Altered trends in carbon uptake in China’s terrestrial ecosystems under the enhanced summer monsoon and warming hiatus显示文摘The carbon budgets in terrestrial ecosystems in China are strongly coupled with climate changes.Over the past decade,China has experienced dramatic climate changes characterized by enhanced summer monsoon and decelerated warming.However,the changes in the trends of terrestrial net ecosystem production(NEP)in China under climate changes are not well documented.Here,we used three ecosystem models to simulate the spatiotemporal variations in China's NEP during 1982–2010 and quantify the contribution of the strengthened summer monsoon and warming hiatus to the NEP variations in four distinct climatic regions of the country.Our results revealed a decadal-scale shift in NEP from a downtrend of–5.95 Tg C/yr^2(reduced sink)during 1982–2000 to an uptrend of 14.22 Tg C/yr^2(enhanced sink)during 2000–10.This shift was essentially induced by the strengthened summer monsoon,which stimulated carbon uptake,and the warming hiatus,which lessened the decrease in the NEP trend.Compared to the contribution of 56.3%by the climate effect,atmospheric CO2 concentration and nitrogen deposition had relatively small contributions(8.6 and 11.3%,respectively)to the shift.In conclusion,within the context of the global-warming hiatus,the strengthening of the summer monsoon is a critical climate factor that enhances carbon uptake in China due to the asymmetric response of photosynthesis and respiration.Our study not only revealed the shift in ecosystem carbon sequestration in China in recent decades,but also provides some insight for understanding ecosystem carbon dynamics in other monsoonal areas.Honglin He Shaoqiang Wang Li Zhang Junbang Wang Xiaoli Ren Lei Zhou Shilong Piao Hao Yan Weimin Ju Fengxue Gu Shiyong Yu Yuanhe Yang Miaomiao Wang Zhongen Niu Rcmg Ge Huimin Yan Mei Huang Guoyi Zhou Yongfei Bai Zongqiang Xie Zhiyao Tang Bingfang Wu Leiming Zhang Nianpeng He Qiufeng Wang Guirui Yu 2019National Science Review2019,6,3:24

12Total glucosides of paeony attenuates animal psoriasis induced inflammatory response through inhibiting STAT1 and STAT3 phosphorylation显示文摘OBJECTIVE Psoriasis is an immune system meditated disease,especially T cells.It disturbed many people around the world and hard to therapy.Paeonia lactiflora Pall has been used as a medicine in china for thousands of years.Recent studies has found that the main component of Paeonia lactiflora Pall can alleviates the immune response in many diseases.In this study,we researched the effects and possible mechanisms of total glucosides of paeony(TGP)on animal psoriasis in order to study the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of TGP in 5%propranolol creaminduced psoriasis in guinea pigs and Imiquimod(IMQ)cream-induced psoriasis in mice.METHODS The effect of TGP was evaluated using a psoriasis-like model of guinea pigs and mice.Ear thickness was accessed,and pathology injury was observed by HE staining.The levels of serum IL-1β,IL-6,IL-12,IL-17,IL-23,TNF-α,and IFN-γ,skin IL-17A,IL-22 and orphan nuclear receptor(RORγt)mRNA expression,proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA),total or phosphorylated signal transducers and activators of transcription(STAT1 and STAT3)were determined by ELISA,real time PCR,immu⁃nohistochemical staining,and Western blotting,respectively.RESULTS Compared with model group,TGP treatment decreased the ear thickness,improved pathology of psoriasis,alleviated IMQ-induced keratinocyte proliferation,reduced the inflammatory cytokine,and downregulated IL-17A,IL-22,and RORγt mRNA in mice.Further study indicated that TGP inhibited STAT1 and STAT3 phosphorylation in lesion skins of psoriasis-like mice.CONCLUSION TGP alleviates the symptoms of psoriasis-like guinea pigs and mice,and the possible mechanism may relate to inhibit T helper 17(TH17)cell differentiation and keratinocytes proliferation by inhibiting STAT1 and STAT3 phosphorylation.LI Bin-bin HE Shu-cheng LIU Rui HUANG Liang-liang LIU Ge WANG Rui-xuan YANG Zhuo-yue LIU Xin-yi LENG Ye LIU Dan YE Cheng-yu LI Yun-man CHEN Yong-jian IN Hong FANG Wei-rong 2019中国药理学与毒理学杂志2019,33,9:21

15Diagnostic value of FIB-4, aspartate aminotransferaseto-platelet ratio index and liver stiffness measurement in hepatitis B virus-infected patients with persistently normal alanine aminotransferase显示文摘AIM To assess the diagnostic value of FIB-4, aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index(APRI), and liver stiffness measurement(LSM) in patients with hepatitis B virus infection who have persistently normal alanine transaminase(PNALT).METHODS We enrolled 245 patients with chronic hepatitis B: 95 in PNALT group, 86 in intermittently elevated alanine transaminase(PIALT1) group [alanine transaminase(ALT) within 1-2 × upper limit of normal value(ULN)], and 64 in PIALT2 group(ALT > 2 × ULN). All the patients received a percutaneous liver biopsy guided by ultrasonography. LSM, biochemical tests, and complete blood cell counts were performed.RESULTS The pathological examination revealed moderate inflammatory necrosis ratios of 16.81%(16/95), 32.56%(28/86), and 45.31%(28/64), and moderate liverfibrosis of 24.2%(23/95), 33.72%(29/86), and 43.75%(28/64) in the PNALT, PIALT1, and PIALT2 groups, respectively. The degrees of inflammation and liver fibrosis were significantly higher in the PIALT groups than in the PNALT group(P < 0.05). No significant difference was found in the areas under the curve(AUCs) between APRI and FIB-4 in the PNALT group; however, significant differences were found between APRI and LSM, and between FIB-4 and LSM in the PNALT group(P < 0.05 for both). In the PIALT1 and PIALT2 groups, no significant difference(P > 0.05) was found in AUCs for all comparisons(P > 0.05 for all). In the overall patients, a significant difference in the AUCs was found only between LSM and APRI(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION APRI and FIB-4 are not the ideal noninvasive hepatic fibrosis markers for PNALT patients. 17Effectiveness of Different Waist Circumference Cut-off Values in Predicting Metabolic Syndrome Prevalence and Risk Factors in Adults in China显示文摘Objective To study the effectiveness of waist circumference cut-off values in predicting the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS) and risk factors in adults in China. Methods A cross-sectional survey was condcuted in 14 provinces(autonomous region, municipality) in China. A total of 47 325 adults aged ≥20 years were selected by multistage stratified sampling, and questionnaire survey and physical and clinical examination were conducted among them. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation(IDF) criteria and modified IDF criteria.Results The age-standardized prevalence of MetS was 24.2%(22.1% in men and 25.8% in women) and 19.5%(22.1% in men and 18.0% in women) according to the IDF criteria and modified IDF criteria respectively. The age-standardized prevalence of pre-MetS was 8.1%(8.6% in men and 7.8% in women) according to the modified IDF criteria. The prevalence of MetS was higher in urban residents than rural residents and in northern China residents than in southern China residents. The prevalence of central obesity was about 30% in both men and women according to the ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference for central obesity(90 cm for men and 85 cm for women). Multivariate regression analysis revealed no significant difference in risk factors between the two MetS definitions. 18Efficacy and safety of Shexiang Baoxin pill(MUSKARDIA)in patients with stable coronary artery disease:a multicenter,double-blind,placebo-controlled phase IV randomized clinical trial显示文摘Background:The Shexiang Baoxin Pill(MUSKARDIA)has been used for treating coronary artery disease(CAD)and angina for more than 30 years in China.Nevertheless,methodologically sound trials on the use of MUSKARDIA in CAD patients are scarce.The aim of the study is to determine the effects of MUSKARDIA as an add-on to optimal medical therapy(OMT)in patients with stable CAD.Methods:A total of 2674 participants with stable CAD from 97 hospitals in China were randomized 1:1 to a MUSKARDIA or placebo group for 24 months.Both groups received OMT according to local tertiary hospital protocols.The primary outcome was the occurrence of a major adverse cardiovascular event(MACE),defined as a composite of cardiovascular death,non-fatal myocardial infarction(MI),or non-fatal stroke.Secondary outcomes included all-cause mortality,non-fatal MI,non-fatal stroke,hospitalization for unstable angina or heart failure,peripheral revascularization,angina stability and angina frequency.Results:In all,99.7%of the patients were treated with aspirin and 93.0%with statin.After 2 years of treatment,the occurrence of MACEs was reduced by 26.9%in the MUSKARDIA group(MUSKARDIA:1.9%vs.placebo:2.6%;odds ratio=0.80;95%confidence interval:0.45-1.07;P=0.2869).Angina frequency was significantly reduced in the MUSKARDIA group at 18 months(P=0.0362).Other secondary endpoints were similar between the two groups.The rates of adverse events were also similar between the two groups(MUSKARDIA:17.7%vs.placebo:17.4%,P=0.8785).Conclusions:As an add-on to OMT,MUSKARDIA is safe and significantly reduces angina frequency in patients with stable CAD.Moreover,the use of MUSKARDIA is associated with a trend toward reduced MACEs in patients with stable CAD.The results suggest that MUSKARDIA can be used to manage patients with CAD.Trial registration:chictr.org.cn,No.ChiCTR-TRC-12003513.Jun-Bo Ge Wei-Hu Fan Jing-Min Zhou Hai-Ming Shi Fu-Sui Ji Yang Wu Yu-Lan Zhao Jun Qian Yuan-Zhe Jin Ying-Wu Liu Sheng-Huang Wang Sheng-Hu He Ping Yang Jie Wu Feng Lu Zi-Shan Hou 2021Chinese Medical Journal2021,,2:17
19Sea surface temperature and terrestrial biomarker records of the last 260 ka of core MD05-2904 from the northern South China Sea显示文摘This paper reports high-resolution biomarker records of the last 260 ka for core MD05-2904 from the northern South China Sea (SCS). The sea surface temperature (SST) record using the U k3’7 index re-veals a minimum of 21.5℃ (MIS 2) and a maximum of 28.3℃ (MIS 5.5), for a temperature difference of almost 7℃, and provides the longest high-resolution U k3’7 SST record in northern SCS. The content of odd-number long chain n-alkanes and several n-alkanes indexes such as the CPI, ACL and the C31/C27 ratio, all reveal generally higher values during the glacials and lower values during the interglacials. Terrestrial input as indicated by n-alkane content was mostly controlled by sea-level changes: During the glacials, lower sea-level exposed the continental shelf to enable rivers to transport more terrestrial materials to the slope; and the situation reverses during the interglacials. The n-alkane indexes changes reveal more n-alkanes from contemporary vegetation during glacials as a result of the prox-imity of the core site to the source region, while the increases in ACL and C31/C27 ratio during glacials indicate a change to more grassy vegetation. 20Treatment and outcomes of 1041 pediatric patients with neuroblastoma who received multidisciplinary care in China显示文摘Importance:Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial malignant solid tumor in children.Multidisciplinary care is critical to improving the survival of pediatric patients with neuroblastoma.Objective:To systematically summarize the clinical characteristics of children with neuroblastoma and evaluate their prognosis with multidisciplinary care provided in a single center.Methods:This retrospective study analyzed the clinical data of 1041 patients with neuroblastoma who were diagnosed,treated,and followed-up in the Hematology-Oncology Center of Beijing Children’s Hospital from 2007 to 2019.Results:The median age at diagnosis was 34 months;80.8%of the patients were younger than 5 years of age.Notably,243 patients(23.3%)were classified as low-risk,249 patients(23.9%)were classified as intermediate-risk,and 549(52.7%)were classified as high-risk.Furthermore,956 patients underwent surgical resections;986(94.7%)patients received chemotherapy;and 176 patients with high-risk neuroblastoma received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.The 5-year event-free survival(EFS)rate was 91.3%and 5-year overall survival(OS)rate was 97.5%in low-risk group;in the intermediate-risk group,these rates were 85.1%and 96.7%,respectively,while they were 37.7%and 48.9%in the high-risk group(P<0.001 for both).The 5-year EFS and OS rates were significantly higher in patients diagnosed between 2015 and 2019 than in patients diagnosed between 2007 and 2014(P<0.001).In total,278 patients(26.7%)exhibited tumor relapse or progression;the median interval until relapse or progression was 14 months.Of the 233 patients who died,83%died of relapse or progression of neuroblastoma and 4.3%died of therapy-related complications.Interpretation:The 5-year OS rate was low in high-risk patients,compared with low-and intermediate-risk patients.Multidisciplinary care is critical for improvement of survival in pediatric patients with neuroblastoma.Additional treatment strategies should be sought to improve the prognosis of patients with high-risk neuroblastoma.Yan Su Hong Qin Chenghao Chen Shengcai Wang Shihan Zhang Dawei Zhang Mei Jin Yun Peng Lejian He Xiaoman Wang Suyun Qian Maoquan Qin Ming Ge Fuquan Zhang Qi Zeng Huanmin Wang Xiaoli Ma Xin Ni 2020Pediatric Investigation2020,4,3:16
