1Stem cells in neuroinjury and neurodegenerative disorders: challenges and future neurotherapeutic prospects显示文摘The prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases and neural injury disorders is increasing worldwide. Research is now focusing on improving current neurogenesis techniques including neural stem cell therapy and other biochemical drug-based approaches to ameliorate these disorders. Unfortunately, we are still facing many obstacles that are rendering current neurotherapies ineffective in clinical trials for reasons that are yet to be discovered. That is why we should start by fully understanding the complex mechanisms of neurogenesis and the factors that affect it, or else, all our suggested therapies would fail since they would not be targeting the essence of the neurological disorder but rather the symptoms. One possible paradigm shift is to switch from neuroprotectant therapies towards neurodegeneration/neurorestorative approaches. In addition, other and our laboratories are increasingly focusing on combining the use of pharmacological agents(such as Rho-associated kinase(ROCK) inhibitors or other growth factors(such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)) and stem cell treatment to enhance the survivability and/or differentiation capacity of transplanted stem cells in neurotrauma or other neurodegeneration animal models. Ongoing stem cell research is surely on the verge of a breakthrough of multiple effective therapeutic options for neurodegenerative disorders. Once, we fully comprehend the process of neurogenesis and its components, we will fully be capable of manipulating and utilizing it. 2Overview, prevention and management of chemotherapy extravasation显示文摘Chemotherapy extravasation remains an accidental complication of chemotherapy administration and may result in serious damage to patients. We review in this article the clinical aspects of chemotherapy extravasation and latest advances in definitions, classification, pre-vention, management and guidelines. We review the grading of extravasation and tissue damage according to various chemotherapeutic drugs and present an update on treatment and new antidotes including dexrazoxane for anthracyclines extravasation. 3Antibacterial and antifungal activities of different parts of Tribulus terrestris L. growing in Iraq显示文摘Antimicrobial activity of organic and aqueous extracts from fruits, leaves and roots of Tribulus terrestris L., an Iraqi medicinal plant used as urinary antiinfective in folk medicine, was examined against 11 species of pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms: Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Serratia marcescens, Salmonella typhimurium, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans using microdilution method in 96 multiwell microtiter plates. All the extracts from the different parts of the plant showed antimicrobial activity against most tested microorganisms. The most active extract against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria was ethanol extract from the fruits with a minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 0.15 mg/ml against B. subtilis, B. cereus, P. vulgaris and C. diphtheriae. In addition, the same extract from the same plant part demonstrated the strongest antifungal activity against C. albicans with an MIC value of 0.15 mg/ml.Firas A. AL-BAYATI Hassan F. 4Anti-hepatitis C virus potency of a new autophagy inhibitor using human liver slices model显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the antiviral potency of a new antihepatitis C virus(HCV) antiviral agent targeting the cellular autophagy machinery. METHODS: Non-infected liver slices, obtained from human liver resection and cut in 350 μm-thick slices(2.7 × 106 cells per slice) were infected with cell culture-grown HCV Con1b/C3 supernatant(multiplicity of infection = 0.1) cultivated for up to ten days. HCV infected slices were treated at day 4 post-infection with GNS-396 for 6 d at different concentrations. HCV replication was evaluated by strand-specific real-time quantitative reverse transcription- polymerase chain reaction. The infectivity titers of supernatants were evaluated by foci formation upon inoculation into naive Huh-7.5.1 cells. The cytotoxic effect of the drugs was evaluated by lactate dehydrogenase leakage assays. RESULTS: The antiviral efficacy of a new antiviral drug, GNS-396, an autophagy inhibitor, on HCV infection of adult human liver slices was evidenced in a dosedependent manner. 6Giant saphenous vein graft pseudoaneurysm to right posterior descending artery presenting with superior vena cava syndrome显示文摘Saphenous vein grafts(SVG) pseudoaneurysms,especially giant ones,are rare and occur as a late complication of coronary artery bypass grafting. This condition affects both genders and typically occurs within the sixth decade of life. The clinical presentation ranges from an asymptomatic incidental finding on imaging studies to new onset angina,dyspnea,myocardial infarction or symptoms related to compression of neighboring structures. An 82-year-old woman presented with acute onset back pain,dyspnea and was noted to have significantly engorged neck veins. In the emergency department,a chest computed tomographic angiogram with intravenous contrast revealed a ruptured giant bilobed SVG pseudoaneurysm to the right posterior descending artery(RPDA). This imaging modality also demonstrated compression of the superior vena cava(SVC) by the SVG pseudoaneurysm. Coronary angiogram with bypass study was performed to establish the patency of this graft. Endovascular coiling and embolization of the SVG to RPDA was initially considered but disfavored after the coronary angiogram revealed preserved flow from the graft to this arterial branch. After reviewing the angiogram films,a surgical strategy was favored over a percutaneous intervention with a Nitinol self-expanding stent since the latter would have not addressed the superior vena cava compression caused by the giant pseudoaneurysm. Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiogram demonstrated SVCcompression by the giant pseudoaneurysm cranial lobe. Our patient underwent surgical ligation and excision of the giant pseudoaneurysm and the RPDA was regrafted successfully. 9新型冠状病毒疫情期间黎巴嫩护士的心理韧性及影响因素显示文摘目的本研究旨在探讨新型冠状病毒疫情期间黎巴嫩主要转诊中心护士的心理韧性水平及其影响因素。方法研究采用横断面调查设计。2020年春季,通过网络调查265名护士,调查内容包括5个方面:人口统计学资料、工作满意度、离职倾向、工作场所暴力和心理韧性现状。采用多元线性回归分析确定心理韧性的影响因素。结果结果显示,护士心理韧性总分为(66.91±13.34)分;67.8%护士对自己的工作满意,76.2%护士表示不太可能在未来一年内辞去目前的工作。在过去一年中有74.7%护士表示遭受过工作场所暴力。多元线性回归显示,对工作满意、男性、没有离职倾向及未遭受过职场暴力的护士心理韧性水平更高(P<0.05)。结论提高护士的心理韧性水平,可以提高他们在危机时期的工作满意度及留任率,并有助于提高护理服务的时效性。护理管理者应定期调查护士的心理韧性水平,并采取干预措施促进其提高,特别是在危机时期。Mohamad Alameddine Karen Bou-Karroum Wahida Ghalayini Firas Abiad 2021International Journal of Nursing Sciences2021,8,4:2

11Comparison between Pt/TiO_2/Pt and Pt/TaO_X/TaO_Y/Pt based bipolar resistive switching devices显示文摘Nonvolatile memories have emerged in recent years and have become a leading candidate towards replacing dynamic and static random-access memory devices.In this article,the performances of T1O2 and TaO2nonvolatile memristive devices were compared and the factors that make TaO2 memristive devices better than T1O2 memristive devices were studied.TaO2 memristive devices have shown better endurance performances(108times more switching cycles) and faster switching speed(5 times) than TiO2 memristive devices.Electroforming of TaO2 memristive devices requires 4.5 times less energy than TiO2 memristive devices of a similar size.The retention period of TaO2 memristive devices is expected to exceed 10 years with sufficient experimental evidence.In addition to comparing device performances,this article also explains the differences in physical device structure,switching mechanism,and resistance switching performances of TiO2 and TaO2 memristive devices.This article summarizes the reasons that give TaO2 memristive devices the advantage over TiO2 memristive devices,in terms of electroformation,switching speed,and endurance.Patrick W.C.Ho Firas Odai Hatem Haider Abbas F.Almurib T.Nandha Kumar 2016Journal of Semiconductors2016,37,6:2
