| 1 | Large-scale analysis of small RNAs derived from traditional Chinese herbs in human tissues显示文摘Plant-derived microRNAs have recently been reported to function in human blood and tissues. Controversy was immediately raised due to possible contamination and the lack of large sample sizes. Here, we report thousands of unique small RNAs derived from traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) herbs found in human blood cells and mouse lung tissues using a large-scale analysis.We extracted small RNAs from decoctions of 10 TCM plants(Ban Zhi Lian, Chai Hu, Chuan Xin Lian, Di Ding Zi Jin, Huang Qin, Jin Yin Hua, Lian Qiao, Pu Gong Ying, Xia Ku Cao, and Yu Xing Cao) and obtained millions of RNA sequences from each herb. We also obtained RNA-Seq data from the blood cells of humans who consumed herbal decoctions and from the lung tissues of mice administered RNAs from herbal decoctions via oral gavage. We identified thousands of unique small RNA sequences in human blood cells and mouse lung tissues. Some of these identified small RNAs from Chuan Xin Lian and Hong Jing Tian could be mapped to the genomes of the herbs, confirming their TCM plant origin. | 3 | Tool Orientation Optimization and Path Planning for 5-Axis Machining显示文摘Tool path generation is a fundamental problem in 5-axis CNC machining, which consists of tool orientation planning and cutter-contact(CC) point planning. The planning strategy highly depends on the type of tool cutters. For ball-end cutters, the tool orientation and CC point location can be planned separately;while for flat end cutters, the two are highly dependent on each other. This paper generates a smooth tool path of workpiece surfaces for flat end mills from two stages: Computing smooth tool orientations on the surface without gouging and collisions and then designing the CC point path. By solving the tool posture optimization problem the authors achieve both the path smoothness and the machining efficiency. | 4 | A comprehensive analysis of the Bencao(herbal)small RNA Atlas reveals novel RNA therapeutics for treating human diseases显示文摘Cross-kingdom herbal mi RNA was first reported in 2012.Using a modified herbal extraction protocol,we obtained 73,677,287sequences by RNA-seq from 245 traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),of which 20,758,257 were unique sequences.We constructed a Bencao(herbal)small RNA(s RNA)Atlas(http://gffzz4a3adbfa122d4a47hq5wx59bxk5v06fnf.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn),annotated the sequences by sequence-based clustering,and created a nomenclature system for Bencao s RNAs.The profiles of 21,757 mi RNAs in the Atlas were highly consistent with those of plant mi RNAs in mi RBase.Using software tools,our results demonstrated that all human genes might be regulated by s RNAs from the Bencao s RNA Atlas,part of the predicted human target genes were experimentally validated,suggesting that Bencao s RNAs might be one of the main bioactive components of herbal medicines.We established roadmaps for oligonucleotide drugs development and optimization of TCM prescriptions.Moreover,the decoctosome,a lipo-nano particle consisting of 0.5%–2.5%of the decoction,demonstrated potent medical effects.We propose a Bencao(herbal)Index,including small-molecule compounds(SM),protein peptides(P),nucleic acid(N),non-nucleic and non-proteinogenic large-molecule compounds(LM)and elements from Mendeleev's periodic table(E),to quantitatively measure the medical effects of botanic medicine.The Bencao s RNA Atlas is a resource for developing gene-targeting oligonucleotide drugs and optimizing botanical medicine,and may provide potential remedies for the theory and practice of one medicine. | Yinghao Cao Yexuan Lin Na Sun Xinyi Du Yixin Dong Song Mei Xingyu Deng Xiaobei Li Shaoting Guo Kegong Tang Jiaqi Liu Xiangyu Qiao Dandan Zhao Yuhao Qin Cong Zhang Tianyi Xin Xiaohu Shi Congzhao Zhou Tao Dong De-an Guo Benedikt MKessler Dong Xu Jingyuan Song Fengming Huang Xiaoyue Wang Chengyu Jiang | 2023 | Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,10: | 2 |

| 6 | Spatial and temporal evolution of landfast ice near Zhongshan Station, East Antarctica, over an annual cycle in 2011/2012显示文摘Annual observations of first-year ice(FYI) and second-year ice(SYI) near Zhongshan Station, East Antarctica,were conducted for the first time from December 2011 to December 2012. Melt ponds appeared from early December 2011. Landfast ice partly broke in late January, 2012 after a strong cyclone. Open water was refrozen to form new ice cover in mid-February, and then FYI and SYI co-existed in March with a growth rate of 0.8 cm/d for FYI and a melting rate of 2.7 cm/d for SYI. This difference was due to the oceanic heat flux and the thickness of ice,with weaker heat flux through thicker ice. From May onward, FYI and SYI showed a similar growth by 0.5 cm/d.Their maximum thickness reached 160.5 cm and 167.0 cm, respectively, in late October. Drillings showed variations of FYI thickness to be generally less than 1.0 cm, but variations were up to 33.0 cm for SYI in March,suggesting that the SYI bottom was particularly uneven. Snow distribution was strongly affected by wind and surface roughness, leading to large thickness differences in the different sites. Snow and ice thickness in Nella Fjord had a similar 'east thicker, west thinner' spatial distribution. Easterly prevailing wind and local topography led to this snow pattern. Superimposed ice induced by snow cover melting in summer thickened multi-year ice,causing it to be thicker than the snow-free SYI. The estimated monthly oceanic heat flux was ~30.0 W/m2 in March–May, reducing to ~10.0 W/m2 during July–October, and increasing to ~15.0 W/m2 in November. The seasonal change and mean value of 15.6 W/m2 was similar to the findings of previous research. | 8 | Benefit analysis of multi-approach biomass energy utilization toward carbon neutrality显示文摘To reduce greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions,biomass has been increasingly developed as a renewable and clean alternative to fossil fuels because of its carbon-neutral characteristics.China has been investigating the rational development and use of bioenergy for developing its clean energy and achieving carbon neutrality.Substituting fossil fuels with multi-source and multi-approach utilized bioenergy and corresponding carbon reduction in China remain largely unexplored.Here,a comprehensive bioenergy accounting model with a multi-dimensional analysis was developed by combining spatial,life cycle,and multi-path analyses.Accordingly,the bioenergy production potential and GHG emission reduction for each distinct type of biomass feedstock through different conversion pathways were estimated.The sum of all available organic waste(21.55 EJ yr^(-1))and energy plants on marginal land(11.77 EJ yr^(-1))in China produced 23.30 EJ of bioenergy and reduced 2,535.32 Mt CO_(2)-eq emissions,accounting for 19.48%and 25.61%of China’s total energy production and carbon emissions in 2020,respectively.When focusing on the carbon emission mitigation potential of substituting bioenergy for conventional counterparts,bioelectricity was the most effective,and its potential was 4.45 and 8.58 times higher than that of gaseous and liquid fuel alternatives,respectively.In this study,life cycle emission reductions were maximized by a mix of bioenergy end uses based on biomass properties,with an optimal 78.56%bioenergy allocation from biodiesel,densified solid biofuel,biohydrogen,and biochar.The main regional bioenergy GHG mitigation focused on the Jiangsu,Sichuan,Guangxi,Henan,and Guangdong provinces,contributing to 31.32%of the total GHG mitigation potential.This study provides valuable guidance on exploiting untapped biomass resources in China to secure carbon neutrality by 2060. | Jiaoyue Wang Jingying Fu Zhitong Zhao Longfei Bing Fengming Xi Feng Wang Jiang Dong Shiyun Wang Gang Lin Yan Yin Qinqin Hu | 2023 | The Innovation2023,4,3: | 0 |

| 12 | Dividing the transit wind speeds into intervals as a favorable methodology for analyzing the relationship between wind speed and the aerodynamic impedance of vegetation in semiarid grasslands显示文摘In grassland ecosystems,the aerodynamic roughness(Z0)and frictional wind speed(u*)contribute to the aerodynamic impedance of the grassland canopy.Thus,they are often used in the studies of wind erosion and evapotranspiration.However,the effect of wind speed and grazing measures on the aerodynamic impedance of the grassland canopy has received less analysis.In this study,we monitored wind speeds at multiple heights in grazed and grazing-prohibited grasslands for 1 month in 2021,determined the transit wind speed at 2.0 m height by comparing wind speed differences at the same height in both grasslands,and divided these transit wind speeds at intervals of 2.0 m/s to analyze the effect of the transit wind speed on the relationship among Z0,u*,and wind speed within the grassland canopy.The results showed that dividing the transit wind speeds into intervals has a positive effect on the logarithmic fit of the wind speed profile.After dividing the transit wind speeds into intervals,the wind speed at 0.1 m height(V0.1)gradually decreased with the increase of Z0,exhibiting three distinct stages:a sharp change zone,a steady change zone,and a flat zone;while the overall trend of u*increased first and then decreased with the increase of V0.1.Dividing the transit wind speeds into intervals improved the fitting relationship between Z0 and V0.1 and changed their fitting functions in grazed and grazing-prohibited grasslands.According to the computational fluid dynamic results,we found that the number of tall-stature plants has a more significant effect on windproof capacity than their height.The results of this study contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between wind speed and the aerodynamic impedance of vegetation in grassland environments. | LI Ruishen PEI Haifeng ZHANG Shengwei LI Fengming LIN Xi WANG Shuai YANG Lin | 2023 | Journal of Arid Land2023,15,8: | 0 |
