| 2 | Effects of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor on peritoneal defense mechanisms and bacterial translocation after administration of systemic chemotherapy in rats显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effects of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) on peritoneal defense mechanisms and bacterial translocation after systemic 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) administration. METHODS: Thirty Wistar albino rats were divided into three groups; the control, 5-FU and 5-FU + G-CSF groups. We measured bactericidal activity of the peritoneal fluid, phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes in the peritoneal fluid, total peritoneal cell counts and cell types of peritoneal washing fluid. Bacterial translocation was quantified by mesenteric lymph node, liver and spleen tissue cultures. RESULTS: Systemic 5-FU reduced total peritoneal cell counts, neutrophils and macrophage numbers. It also altered bactericidal activity of the peritoneal fluid and phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes in the peritoneal fluid. 5-FU also caused significant increase in frequencies of bacterial translocation at the liver and mesenteric lymph nodes. G-CSF decreased bacterial translocation, it significantly enhanced bactericidal activity of the peritoneal fluid and phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes in the peritoneal fluid. It also increased total peritoneal cell counts, neutrophils and macrophage numbers. CONCLUSION: Systemic 5-FU administration caused bacterial translocation, decreased the bactericidalactivity of peritoneal fluid and phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes in the peritoneal fluid. G-CSF increased both bactericidal activity of the peritoneal fluid and phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes in the peritoneal fluid, and prevented the bacterial translocation. We conclude that intraperitoneal GCSF administration protects the effects of systemic 5-FU on peritoneal defense mechanisms. | Celal Cerci Cagri Ergin Erol Eroglu Canan Agalar Fatih Agalar Sureyya Cerci Mahmut Bulbul | 2007 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,18: | 1 |
| 3 | Effect of refractive error on temperament and character properties显示文摘AIM: To determine the effect of refractive error on temperament and character properties using Cloninger's psychobiological model of personality.METHODS: Using the Temperament and Character Inventory(TCI), the temperament and character profiles of 41 participants with refractive errors(17 with myopia,12 with hyperopia, and 12 with myopic astigmatism) were compared to those of 30 healthy control participants. Here, temperament comprised the traits of novelty seeking, harm-avoidance, and reward dependence, while character comprised traits of self-directedness,cooperativeness, and self-transcendence.RESULTS: Participants with refractive error showed significantly lower scores on purposefulness, cooperativeness, empathy, helpfulness, and compassion(P <0.05, P <0.01, P <0.05, P <0.05, and P <0.01,respectively).CONCLUSION: Refractive error might have a negative influence on some character traits, and different types of refractive error might have different temperament and character properties. These personality traits may be implicated in the onset and/or perpetuation of refractive errors and may be a productive focus for psychotherapy. | Emine Kalkan Akcay Fatih Canan Huseyin Simavli Derya Dal Hacer Yalniz Nagihan Ugurlu Omer Gecici Nurullah Cagil | 2015 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2015,8,1: | 1 |
| 4 | Pediatric dysphagia overview:best practice recommendation study by multidisciplinary experts显示文摘Background Currently, there is no comprehensive and multidisciplinary recommendation study covering all aspects of pediatric dysphagia(PD).This study aimed to generate PD management recommendations with methods that can be used in clinical practice to fill this gap in our country and in the world, from the perspective of experienced multidisciplinary experts. Methods This recommendation paper was generated by a multidisciplinary team, using the seven-step process and a three-round modified Delphi survey via e-mail.First,ten open-ended questions were created, and then detailed recommendations including management, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up were created with the answers from these questions. Each recommendation item was voted on by the experts as overall consensus(strong recommendation),approaching consensus(weak recommendation)and divergent consensus(not recommended). Results In the 1st Delphi round,a questionnaire of 414 items was prepared based on the experts’responses to ten open-ended questions. In the 2nd Delphi round,59.2%of these items were accepted as pre-recommendation.In the 3rd Delphi round,62.6%of 246 items were accepted for inclusion in the proposals. The final version recommendations consisted of 154 items. Conclusions This study includes comprehensive and detailed answers for every problem that could be posed in clinical practice for the management of PD,and recommendations are for all pediatric patients with both oropharyngeal and esophageal dysphagia. | Ebru Umay Sibel Eyigor Esra Giray Evrim Karadag Saygi Bulent Karadag Nihal Durmus Kocaaslan Deniz Yuksel Arzu Meltem Demir Engin Tutar Canan Tikiz Eda Gurcay Zeliha Unlu Pelin Celik Ece Unlu Akyuz Guven Mengu Serkan Bengisu Sibel Alicura Necati Unver Nida Yekteusaklari Cuma Uz Merve Cikili Uytuni Fatih Bagcier Elif Tarihci Mazlum Serdar Akaltun Iclal Ayranci Sucakli Damla Cankurtaran Zeynep Aykin Resa Aydin Fatma Nazli | 2022 | World Journal of Pediatrics2022,18,11: | 1 |

| 6 | Dissociation and disasters: A systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND Dissociation, which is defined as the failure to associate consciousness, memory, identity, emotion, perception, body representation, motor control, and behavior into an integrated whole, has long been assumed to be generated by trauma. If dissociation is a product of trauma exposure, then dissociation would be a major mental health outcome observed in studies of disaster survivors.Although some studies have examined dissociation in disasters,no systematic literature reviews have been conducted to date on the topic.AIM To systematically evaluate the literature on the association between disaster and dissociation to determine the prevalence and incidence of dissociation after exposure to disaster and further examine their relationship.METHODS EMBASE,Medline, and PsychINFO were searched from inception to January 1,2019 to identify studies examining dissociative disorders or symptoms related to a disaster in adult or child disaster survivors and disaster responders.Studies of military conflicts and war, articles not in English, and those with samples of 30 or more participants were excluded.Search terms used were“disaster*”and dissociation(“dissociat*,”“multiple personality,”“fugue,”“psychogenic amnesia,”“derealization,”and“depersonalization”).Reference lists of identified articles were scrutinized to identify studies for additional articles.RESULTS The final number of articles in the review was 53,including 36 articles with samples of adults aged 18 and above,5 of children/adolescents under age 18,and 12 of disaster workers.Included articles studied several types of disasters that occurred between 1989 and 2017,more than one-third(38%)from the United States.Only two studies had a primary aim to investigate dissociation in relation to disaster and none reported data on dissociative disorders. All of the studies used self-report symptom scales;none used structured interviews providing full diagnostic assessment of dissociative disorders or other psychopathology.Several studies mixed exposed and unexposed samples or did not differentiate outcomes between exposure groups.Studies examining associations between dissociation and disaster exposure have been inconclusive. The majority(75%)of the studies compared dissociation with posttraumatic stress, with inconsistent findings.Dissociation was found to be associated with a wide range of other psychiatric disorders, symptoms, and negative emotional, cognitive, and functional states.CONCLUSION The studies reviewed had serious methodological limitations including problems with measurement of psychopathology, sampling, and generation of unwarranted conclusions, precluding conclusions that dissociation is an established outcome of disaster. | Fatih Canan Carol S North | 2019 | World Journal of Psychiatry2019,9,6: | 0 |
