Coastal blue carbon: Concept, study method, and the application to ecological restoration显示文摘Coastal blue carbon refers to the carbon taken from atmospheric CO2; fixed by advanced plants(including salt marsh, mangrove, and seagrass), phytoplankton, macroalgae, and marine calcifiers via the interaction of plants and microbes; and stored in nearshore sediments and soils; as well as the carbon transported from the coast to the ocean and ocean floor. The carbon sequestration capacity per unit area of coastal blue carbon is far greater than that of the terrestrial carbon pool. The mechanisms and controls of the carbon sink from salt marshes, mangroves, seagrasses, the aquaculture of shellfish and macroalgae, and the microbial carbon pump need to be further studied. The methods to quantify coastal blue carbon include carbon flux measurements, carbon pool measurements, manipulative experiments, and modeling. Restoring, conserving, and enhancing blue carbon will increase carbon sinks and produce carbon credits, which could be traded on the carbon market. The need to tackle climate change and implement China's commitment to cut carbon emissions requires us to improve studies on coastal blue carbon science and policy. The knowledge learned from coastal blue carbon improves the conservation and restoration of salt marshes, mangroves, and seagrasses; enhances the function of the microbial carbon pump; and promotes sustainable aquaculture, such as ocean ranching.Jianwu TANG Shufeng YE Xuechu CHEN Hualei YANG Xiaohong SUN Faming WANG Quan WEN Shaobo CHEN 2018Science China Earth Sciences2018,61,6:8

Removal of nonimpacted third molars alters the periodontal condition of their neighbors clinically, immunologically, and microbiologically显示文摘Considering the adverse effects of nonimpacted third molars(N-M3s)on the periodontal health of adjacent second molars(M2s),the removal of N-M3s may be beneficial to the periodontal health of their neighbors. This study aimed to investigate the clinical, immunological, and microbiological changes of the periodontal condition around M2s following removal of neighboring N-M3s across a 6-month period.Subjects with at least one quadrant containing an intact first molar(M1),M2,and N-M3 were screened and those who met the inclusion criteria and decided to receive N-M3 extraction were recruited in the following investigation.M2 periodontal condition was interrogated before M3 extraction(baseline)and at 3 and 6 months postoperatively.Improvements in clinical periodontal indexes of M2s in response to their adjacent N-M3 removal, along with changes in inflammatory biomarkers among gingival crevicular fluid(GCF)and the composition of subgingival plaque collected from the distal sites of the M2s of the targeted quadrant were parallelly analyzed.Complete data of 26 tooth extraction patients across the follow-up period were successfully obtained and subsequently applied for statistical analysis.Compared to the baseline, the periodontal condition of M2s was significantly changed 6 months after N-M3 removal;specifically, the probing depth of M2s significantly reduced(P<0.001),the matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-8 concentration involved in GCF significantly decreased(P=0.025),and the abundance of the pathogenic genera unidentified Prevotellaceae and Streptococcus significantly decreased(P<0.001 and P=0.009,respectively).We concluded that N-M3 removal was associated with superior clinical indexes, decreased GCF inflammatory biomarkers, and reduced pathogenic microbiome distribution within the subgingival plaque.Although the retention or removal of N-M3s continues to be controversial, our findings provide additional evidence that medical decisions should be made as early as possible or at least before the neighboring teeth are irretrievably damaged.Yi Tian Lijuan Sun Honglei Qu Yang Yang Faming Chen 2021International Journal of Oral Science2021,13,1:3
Experimental and numerical study on instability structure of the supersonic mixing layer(M_c = 0.5)显示文摘The parameters of instability wave of supersonic mixing layer(Mc=0.5,M1=3.5/M2=1.4) are measured by flow visualization and calculated by means of two-dimensional direct numerical simulaitons of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. In both cases of the mixing layer with harmonic disturbance or not,the comparative results indicate that the wavelength of the two-dimensional wave is equal to the vortex spacing in the streamwise direction because the difference between them is less than 1%.However,the measured convective velocity of the large-scale structure deviates from the theoretical isentropic prediction about 10%.Here the measured value confirms that Mc,2YANG WuBing ZHUANG FengGan SHEN Qing GUAN FaMing WANG Qiang YI ShiHe ZHAO YuXin HE Lin TIAN LiFeng 2009Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2009,52,10:2

Variability of Tropical Cyclone in High Frequent Occurrence Regions over the Western North Pacific显示文摘In this study, three high frequent occurrence regions of tropical cyclones(TCs), i.e., the northern South China Sea(the region S), the south Philippine Sea(the region P) and the region east of Taiwan Island(the region E), are defined with frequency of TC's occurrence at each grid for a 45-year period(1965–2009), where the frequency of occurrence(FO) of TCs is triple the mean value of the whole western North Pacific. Over the region S, there are decreasing trends in the FO of TCs, the number of TCs' tracks going though this region and the number of TCs' genesis in this region. Over the region P, the FO and tracks demonstrate decadal variation with periods of 10–12 year, while over the region E, a significant 4–5 years' oscillation appears in both FO and tracks. It is demonstrated that the differences of TCs' variation in these three different regions are mainly caused by the variation of the Western Pacific Subtropical High(WPSH) at different time scales. The westward shift of WPSH is responsible for the northwesterly anomaly over the region S which inhibits westward TC movement into the region S. On the decadal timescale, the WPSH stretches northwestward because of the anomalous anticyclone over the northwestern part of the region P, and steers more TCs reaching the region P in the greater FO years of the region P. The retreating of the WPSH on the interannual time scale is the main reason for the FO's oscillation over the region E.YANG Yuxing HUANG Fei WANG Faming 2014Journal of Ocean University of China2014,13,3:1
Seven facts and five initiatives for gut microbiome research显示文摘The gut microbiome has attracted increasing attention over the past 15 years.Along with the fast-growing body of research literature and media reports, the public's opinions on the gut microbiome have begun to appear polarized. Some believe that the gut microbiome is at the core of human health and is related to every single disease. To the opposite, some people question the scientific basis of gut microbiome studies and criticize that many of them are farfetched;there is even a joke spreading in the biomedical research field—'keeping gut microbiome in mind,no mechanism is hard to find'.Danyi Li Chunhui Gao Faming Zhang Ruifu Yang Canhui Lan Yonghui Ma Jun Wang 2020Protein & Cell2020,11,6:1
Environmental selection and evolutionary process jointly shape genomic and functional profiles of mangrove rhizosphere microbiomes显示文摘Mangrove reforestation with introduced species has been an important strategy to restore mangrove ecosystem functioning. However, how such activities affect microbially driven methane(CH4),nitrogen(N),and sulfur(S)cycling of rhizosphere microbiomes remains unclear. To understand the effect of environmental selection and the evolutionary process on microbially driven biogeochemical cycles in native and introduced mangrove rhizospheres,we analyzed key genomic and functional profiles of rhizosphere microbiomes from native and introduced mangrove species by metagenome sequencing technologies.Compared with the native mangrove(Kandelia obovata,KO),the introduced mangrove(Sonneratia apetala,SA)rhizosphere microbiome had significantly(p<0.05)higher average genome size(AGS)(5.8 vs.5.5 Mb),average 16S ribosomal RNA gene copy number(3.5 vs.3.1),relative abundances of mobile genetic elements, and functional diversity in terms of the Shannon index(7.88 vs.7.84)but lower functional potentials involved in CH4 cycling(e.g.,mcrABCDG and pmoABC),N2 fixation(nifHDK),and inorganic S cycling(dsrAB,dsrC,dsrMKJOP,soxB,sqr, and fccAB).Similar results were also observed from the recovered Proteobacterial metagenome-assembled genomes with a higher AGS and distinct functions in the introduced mangrove rhizosphere.Additionally, salinity and ammonium were identified as the main environmental drivers of functional profiles of mangrove rhizosphere microbiomes through deterministic processes. This study advances our understanding of microbially mediated biogeochemical cycling of CH_(4),N,and S in the mangrove rhizosphere and provides novel insights into the influence of environmental selection and evolutionary processes on ecosystem functions, which has important implications for future mangrove reforestation.Xiaoli Yu Qichao Tu Jihua Liu Yisheng Peng Cheng Wang Fanshu Xiao Yingli Lian Xueqin Yang Ruiwen Hu Huang Yu Lu Qian Daoming Wu Ziying He Longfei Shu Qiang He Yun Tian Faming Wang Shanquan Wang Bo Wu Zhijian Huang Jianguo He Qingyun Yan Zhili He 2023mLife2023,2,3:0
Third molar-related knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and medical history of 904 Chinese adults:a cross-sectional survey显示文摘This study investigated the perceptions and medical history of third molars(M3s)and assessed the prevalence of visible M3s(V-M3s)among 904 Chinese adults. The enrolled participants were interviewed to complete a structural questionnaire focused on sociodemographic information and their understanding of,attitudes toward, behaviors regarding, and medical history with respect to M3s.In addition, the number of V-M3s in the cohort was determined by oral examination.Logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the association between individuals'sociodemographic characteristics and their perception of M3s or the presence of V-M3s.The Chi-square test was used to compare the actions taken against symptomatic M3s and the corresponding outcomes among different groups divided according to respondents'sociodemographic factors. In total,904 completed questionnaires were gathered and analyzed.Nearly half(43.9%)of the respondents knew nothing about M3s,and only 12.7%provided correct answers to all the questions asked.Male sex, older age, occupation involving physical labor, and no previous dental experience were active factors in unawareness of M3s.Male sex was also significantly associated with the presence of at least one V-M3 and negative behavior about symptomatic M3s.In terms of medical history,192 participants reported having had at least one M3 extracted(438 in total),and 72.6%of the M3s were removed due to the presence of related symptoms or pathologies. In conclusion, the population investigated had a shortage of knowledge about M3s and adopted negative attitudes and actions about M3-related problems.Honglei QU Yang YANG Yi TIAN Zhibang LI Lijuan SUN Faming CHEN Beimin TIAN 2023Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2023,24,10:0
A review of intensified conditioning of personal micro-environments:Moving closer to the human body显示文摘Various systems and technologies have been developed in recent years to fulfil the growing needs of high-performance HVAC systems with better performance of energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and occupancy health.Intensified conditioning of human occupied areas and less intensified conditioning of surrounding areas are able to effectively improve the overall satisfaction by individual control of personalized micro-environments and also, achieve maximum energy efficiency.Four main concepts have been identified chronologically through the devel-opment of personal environmental conditioning, changing the intensified conditioning area closer to the human body and enhancing conditioning efforts, namely the task ambient conditioning(TAC)system, personal envi-ronmental control system(PECS),personal comfort system(PCS),and the personal thermal management(PTM)system. This review follows a clue of the concept progress and system evaluation, summarizes important findings and feasible applications, current gaps as well as future research needs.Bin Yang Xin Ding Faming Wang Angui Li 2021Energy and Built Environment2021,2,3:0
Expert consensus on odontogenic maxillary sinusitis multi-disciplinary treatment显示文摘Odontogenic maxillary sinusitis (OMS) is a subtype of maxillary sinusitis (MS). It is actually inflammation of the maxillary sinus that secondary to adjacent infectious maxillary dental lesion. Due to the lack of unique clinical features, OMS is difficult to distinguish from other types of rhinosinusitis. Besides, the characteristic infectious pathogeny of OMS makes it is resistant to conventional therapies of rhinosinusitis. Its current diagnosis and treatment are thus facing great difficulties. The multi-disciplinary cooperation between otolaryngologists and dentists is absolutely urgent to settle these questions and to acquire standardized diagnostic and treatment regimen for OMS. However, this disease has actually received little attention and has been underrepresented by relatively low publication volume and quality. Based on systematically reviewed literature and practical experiences of expert members, our consensus focuses on characteristics, symptoms, classification and diagnosis of OMS, and further put forward multidisciplinary treatment decisions for OMS, as well as the common treatment complications and relative managements. This consensus aims to increase attention to OMS, and optimize the clinical diagnosis and decision-making of OMS, which finally provides evidence-based options for OMS clinical management.Jiang Lin Chengshuo Wang Xiangdong Wang Faming Chen Wei Zhang Hongchen Sun Fuhua Yan Yaping Pan Dongdong Zhu Qintai Yang Shaohua Ge Yao Sun Kuiji Wang Yuan Zhang Mu Xian Ming Zheng Anchun Mo Xin Xu Hanguo Wang Xuedong Zhou Luo Zhang 2024International Journal of Oral Science2024,16,1:0
Seasonal variations of eddy kinetic energy fl ux in the South Indian Countercurrent region显示文摘The inverse cascade fl ux of kinetic energy(KE)and its length scale in the South Indian Countercurrent(SICC)region were investigated using 24-year satellite altimeter daily data from 1993–2016.The evolution of the eddy life cycle in the SICC was presented systemically. It was found that the arrest and inject scales of inverse cascade were within the baroclinic most unstable scale and observed energy-containing eddy scale. The seasonal cycle of the arrest scale, inject scale, and amplitude of the inverse cascade were compared with the eddy kinetic energy seasonal cycle, which revealed a 1.5-month lag of the eddy kinetic energy to the vertical shear of zonal velocity, implying the existence of nonlinear processes during the eddy growth phase.Meanwhile, the anisotropy of the inverse cascade indicated that kinetic energy might be transferred from meridional motions to zonal motions, which is probably caused byβeff ect. These results would be benefi cial for a better understanding of the KE transfer processes in the SICC region.CHEN Zhongqian WANG Faming ZHENG Jian YANG Yuxing 2020Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,5:0
Real-time monitoring flexible hydrogels based on dual physically cross-linked network for promoting wound healing显示文摘To achieve smart and personalized medicine, the development of hydrogel dressings with sensing properties and biotherapeutic properties that can act as a sensor to monitor of human health in real-time while speeding up wound healing face great challenge. In the present study, a biocompatible dual-network composite hydrogel(DNCGel) sensor was obtained via a simple process. The dual network hydrogel is constructed by the interpenetration of a flexible network formed of poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) physical cross-linked by repeated freeze-thawing and a rigid network of iron-chelated xanthan gum(XG) impregnated with Fe^(3+) interpenetration. The pure PVA/XG hydrogels were chelated with ferric ions by immersion to improve the gel strength(compressive modulus and tensile modulus can reach up to 0.62 MPa and0.079 MPa, respectively), conductivity(conductivity values ranging from 9 × 10^(-4) S/cm to 1 × 10^(-3)S/cm)and bacterial inhibition properties(up to 98.56%). Subsequently, the effects of the ratio of PVA and XG and the immersion time of Fe^(3+) on the hydrogels were investigated, and DNGel3 was given the most priority on a comprehensive consideration. It was demonstrated that the DNCGel exhibit good biocompatibility in vitro, effectively facilitate wound healing in vivo(up to 97.8% healing rate) under electrical stimulation, and monitors human movement in real time. This work provides a novel avenue to explore multifunctional intelligent hydrogels that hold great promise in biomedical fields such as smart wound dressings and flexible wearable sensors.Le Hu Yuxin Wang Qing Liu Man Liu Faming Yang Chunxiao Wang Panpan Pan Lin Wang Li Chen Jingdi Chen 2023Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,10:0
Effects of Chemical Reactions in the Hypersonic Reacting Flow around Blunt Bodies显示文摘The effects of chemical reactions in the hypersonic reacting flow are investigated using an integrated algorithm considering simultaneously two different reaction mechanisms,i.e.,including the high temperature air nonequilibrium chemical reactions and the H_2-air combustion reactions. The program is validated by the air non-equilibrium flow at Mach number of 25.9 with the RAM C-II configuration and the shock-induced combustion flow at Mach number of 4.512 6 around a sphere, respectively. Furthermore, the mixed reacting flow with the Mach number of 10.0 with an opposing jet of hydrogen is numerically analyzed. The results show that the program is reliable, and the effects of chemical reactions engender in the decrease of peak temperature along characteristic lines,as well as on the surface. The production of water is augmented in the region with high ratio of oxygen to hydrogen and weakened in the area with low ratio of oxygen to hydrogen by the air chemical non-equilibrium effects.ZHAO Faming WANG Jiangfeng FAN Xiaofeng YANG Tianpeng 2019Transactions of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics2019,36,1:0
